Au Train near beach

Loved the fenced in yard for our husky mix. Fire pit is a nice touch for the fall evening. Short walk to Au Train beach. Used the gas fireplace on the cool evenings. Only needed one of the two bedrooms, and it was comfortable but small. Bigger bathroom is dated, but attached bathroom to master bedroom is all new.Definitely would stay here again!

Cozy getaway

I loved that this was a pet friendly place! The yard was all fenced in. There was a fire pit which we would've used if it hadn't been so windy. Clean cozy home! Thank you for a relaxing retreat!

Prime location!

Very nice property for a family getaway, in a truly spectacular location. Large yard with a nice fire pit to spend outdoor time on the property, and a short walk to a beautiful beach on Lake Superior. Being located in Au Train, many great day trip opportunities also exist, or, you could stay in town and enjoy a nice float down the river to the beach on Superior.

Perfect Location

This place is exactly as advertised. It was clean and had all the amenities we needed. I checked out the reviews prior to going so I knew the water had iron in it. So we just brought our own bottled water and jugs for coffee. We walked to the Au Train beach every day! And the shops with ice cream and the little market on the corner were extremely convenient! I would definitely stay here again. Thank you for the great memories! ❤️

Great location

Great location. So convenient to get to munising and pictured rocks. Au Train is a gem of a town. The grocery is tiny but mighty, will have anything you need. The northwoods outpost is fantastic...best pizza, great ice cream. Au Train river and beach are beautiful. We don't understand previous negative reviews about the water. This area and any other rental is going to have iron rich water. If you are sensitive to that then bring your own water to drink (which we did) otherwise we found it fine for everything else. This rental served its purpose for us...it was a comfortable respite after full days out and about. Sufficient amenities to cook a nice meal and end our day with a nice movie before bed. I would recommend you reserve the futon/pullout for people under 40. Manage your expectations appropriately and you'll have a great experience here. You'll be hard pressed to find this kind of space with 2 full baths for this price elsewhere. Enjoy it, we did!

Very thoughtful

The host had an awesome welcome book which was very helpful for our 1st visit to the area. The home has a rustic feel and was nicely cleaned. The bed was comfortable and the neighborhood is quiet. It is located close to many attractions. We had a really good visit

Comfortable and Quiet

The property is dated, with hard water, but very clean and well-maintained. For the price and location, you can't beat it! Everything was well-stocked, including movie theater snacks! There's a filtered water spout at the kitchen sink for coffee, cooking and drinking. The bed was comfortable to.

UP vacation

The house had comfortable beds and a large kitchen with everything that we needed to eat most meals there. It was a very quiet area surrounded by trees and only a two minute drive to Lake Superior.

Convenient

Short walking distance to store, food, ice cream and beach. Short drive to water falls and pictured rocks. Bring your own chairs for outside, only outdoor furniture is metal and no cushions. There are homes very close, but quiet and nice place to walk

Nice place...

Overall this was a nice place for our family of four, along with our dog to stay. The accommodations are pretty accurate to what is shown online. Cory gave great suggestions for places to visit and things to do that our family really enjoyed. There were a few things that weren't what we were expecting, and were somewhat disappointing. The upper bunk in one of the bedrooms is very close to the ceiling, so we needed to use the futon instead. The fireplace and dishwasher didn’t work. We had a couple of days while staying where a fire would have been welcomed. There were all kinds of spiderwebs and dead bugs in the windows, which was not very pleasant to look at each day. Finally, the water, as other reviews have stated, is a yellow/orange color and it stinks bad. Our family lives in the country, so we are used to well water. We honestly thought other reviews were from people who are accustomed to city water. We couldn't drink the water. We didn’t cook with it either. We ended up purchasing bottled water for the week because we weren't sure if the water from the house would make us sick. The house would probably benefit from a water filtration system, so the water is safe to drink and use. Overall, it is a nice place to stay, just needs clean water.

Okay

The location is a relatively short drive into Munising, making it a good option for those wanting to explore Pictured Rocks. The Lake Superior beach nearby is a pleasant one to spend the day at, with the Au Train river feeding into it. The house was comfortable, and is nicely surrounded by trees. However, we were disappointed by the level of cleanliness and the water situation. The water is brownish and smells metallic, and has stained things like the showers, toilets, and dishwasher. We purchased bottled water for drinking and brushing teeth. The house was relatively clean, with nicely clean sheets and towels, but our feet were black after walking around without shoes on. The toilet bowls looked as though they had not been scrubbed in a long time. We scrubbed them ourselves and just one cleaning was a big improvement! All in all, this is an affordable option for the area but lacking in some of the amenities some might be looking for in a vacation rental.

Great location

Great location the only downside was the well water. You might want to suggest that people bring lots of water for drinking and washing dishes. The filter in the kitchen sink runs very slowly. Showers were not pleasant the smell of the water is bad. Other than that it was a nice place.

The river runs near it

Of all the places we stayed on this trip, our grandchildren voted this as their favorite. We used it as our base as we explored the Pictured Rock lakeshore area. They loved that the river & lake were so close and loved swimming in both. Had a great time.

About the host

Plain and simply, I am a Yooper. I live locally year round and am a wealth of knowledge when it comes to exploring our area. I graduated high school and college here and I am an avid outdoors-man, I camp, hike, bike, kayak, ski, snowshoe, ATV, motorcycle, snowmobile and Jeep nearly the entire U.P. and if you have heard of it, chances are I've been there, or done that. I also know some places 'slightly off the radar' if you are looking to get away from the tourist areas. Just ask, I'll be happy to give you advice.

Why they chose this property

I manage this property for my friends Terry and Raelene. They purchased it in 2015 as a vacation rental. They really like to meet new people and share knowledge with them about the area. You would be hard pressed to find a cleaner, less expensive place than this. They really pride themselves on having a nice inexpensive and accommodating place for people to stay and enjoy our area. As for me, I own/manage 9 other properties here in AuTrain and have done so since 2009. Since that time, I have been providing people a great place to stay, and the opportunity to enjoy our beautiful area. I will gladly answer any questions that you may have.

What makes this property unique

This property is within 2 blocks of Lake Superior and the beach. It has a nice wooded lot that provides some seclusion and relaxation. There is river access across the street to launch a canoe or kayaks and paddle to Lake Superior.
