About this property

The High Carolew Over Brevard:A Scenic Mountain Escape b/t Asheville & Cashiers

The High Carolew, named after my dad (Lewis) & mom (Carolyn), was born from Dad’s hard-earned money & Mom’s gifted sense of style. This gorgeous home sits on 27 acres atop Liz Reese (Indian Camp) Mountain on the highest spot in the gated community. Enjoy all the modern comforts of home while absorbing most scenic opportunities Southern Appalachian has to offer. In less than an hour, you can venture out anywhere from Asheville to Highlands. Odds are, though, that you’ll want to stay put: It’s all right here!

Transylvania County, North Carolina is the Land of 1000 Waterfalls. There are so many hiking trails and scenic opportunities available there’s not sufficient space to list them all. To highlight a few things: the town of Brevard is 15 minutes away; the Asheville airport is about 50 minutes away; The Biltmore House and the 50 yard-line at Death Valley in Clemson are right at an hour away. Heading northwest, you can hit Lake Toxaway, Sapphire, Cashiers, and Highlands within an hour. If you want to venture up to the Blue Ridge Parkway, it is also under an hour and is accessed by taking the most beautiful road in North Carolina, Highway 215. If you’d like to fly fish, mountain bike, or hike, you are right where you need to be!
Guest access
Guests have access to the entire home. The owner is in a separate cabin down the hollow on the same 27-acre parcel.
Interaction with guests
Bubba places great value in his own privacy and most certainly respects yours. Having said that, he will most likely be in his cabin that he built eight years ago deep down in the hollow on same 27-acre parcel as the High Carolew. You should feel free to let him know if you need anything during your respite. In the event he is not around, he will have provided you a contact name and number in the event of emergency or if there is any special dispensation you require.
Other things to note
The High Carolew will be stocked with a variety of breakfast foods, coffees, teas and a variegated spread of snacks for your enjoyment. Bear in mind that there is a fully stocked kitchen at your disposal in the event you want to prepare any meals during your stay. All linens and towels are provided along with extra blankets, pillows, towels for hot tub, etc. There will be an easily accessible, generous supply of cured split logs for the upstairs wood-burning fireplace. (The downstairs fireplace is gas-burning.) Additionally, the High Carolew will be stocked with games for the kids and adults, including poker tables, chips, bridge tables, an Olympic-size pool table, and a pub-style dartboard...
Not to mention a BRAND NEW, 5-person hot tub overlooking the majestic Jocassee Gorges!

Amazing trip & Breathtaking views
I cannot express how amazing the High Carolew was in person! This place was absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. You could see for miles. It was a slice of heaven. Every morning we woke up with our coffee on the porch and there was literally not a sound. We went into Brevard for dinner and it was close and amazing! We also went hiking on Saturday at Rainbow Falls which was so gorgeous. What a secret and stunning place you have here in the mountains. We will definitely be back and I cannot recommend it enough! Thank you!

Beautiful location and setting. A little difficult to get there during a deluge thunderstorm. Later in clear weather we learned the best routes to Brevard and the waterfalls.

Pre 4th of July get away
It was just the two of us, so we didn't utilize all the space and amenities this large home offered. The deck and upper living space was very comfortable and offered amazing views and quiet like most people have never experienced. The handbook was a little out of date; we had to clean the grill and a few dishes before using but the home was stocked with most any dish or pan anyone would need. We cooked in for every meal and enjoyed the neighborhood. The only wildlife we saw was momma turkey and 5 babies. Thank you for sharing this beautiful location.

Yearly Retreat
This is our third year in a row, we have a close group who are so busy in their lives and live in different locations, but we put this trip together to stay connected, it helps us recharge and be thankful for all the blessings we all have in our lives and our cherished friendship, there is simply not a better place to do this. Very secluded, great amenities, we bring all our stuff and have wonderful meals, great conversation and a nice dab of really good bourbon, what more could you want, incredible views and a nice touch of wildlife and nature ,HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

spectacular views
The main living space was a highlight with amazing views and wonderful space to be together as a family. It was especially cozy with the stone fireplace and warm lighting. Our kiddo love the pool table and darts even while in a utility area, it served for fun with seclusion from others in need of respite. Beds were cozy. Kitchen was well appointed. The side screened in porch was great in the evening and mornings. The rocking chairs on the covered porch left still to ponder the views. And, the property offered a range of wondering to gaze into the forest and beyond the mountains. The location atop a mountain along the North and South Carolina border was a delight; while the drive to local waterfalls, DuPont Forest, Pisgah National Forest and Brevard was not bad when adventuring . Finally, the owner was truly a great help and communicator even when we forgot something our child needed oh so badly,.

Beautiful Place
We had a wonderful time at Carolew. The house is beautiful, comfortable, and well-maintained. The views from the great room and hot tub are spectacular, extending for miles over the surrounding mountains. Brevard, with its multiple dining options, is about 30 minutes away. Pisgah National Forest and the Blue Ridge Parkway also are within easy drives, offering unlimited opportunities for hiking and sightseeing. Asheville is about an hour away, with a thriving arts scene, first class restaurants, and (of course) Biltmore House and Gardens—well worth a visit. Finally, Bubba was a perfect host—always available to answer questions. In sum, we would rent Carolew again without hesitation.

Peace and Quiet with a View
My wife, my 6 year old, and I had a wonderful week long stay at the High Carolew. At the top of a peaceful mountain in a private community was the best view and complete peace and quiet. The cabin is well stocked with absolutely everything you will need and is homey and feels lived in and family oriented. There was plenty of fire wood and everything you will need. The hot tub worked perfectly and we enjoyed the fire pit as well. We were at the top of a mountain but also within an hour of three towns we visited: Brevard, Cashiers, and Hendersonville. We also went on 5 hikes to 5 different waterfalls that were all within 30-60 minutes drive. The location was just remote enough to get the quiet and privacy we needed but close enough to Brevard and the other small towns to enjoy lunch out almost every day. We stayed on the main level of the cabin and enjoyed the fireplace the majority of the time, but there is a downstairs that we used for darts and pool. It's not necessarily a dedicated game room, but instead is in the basement. My 6 year old loved the darts! We explored the neighborhood and the grounds and loved to hang out outside. There is a sunset every night from the deck and you can also view the sunset from the hot tub. The mountain views are even better than the pictures and they change daily based on the weather. I highly recommend Brevard, Hendersonville, and Cashiers as towns to visit. We never made it to Highlands, but it is only about an hour away. One note for those using Google Maps to arrive. Google Maps will take you to the South entrance of the community via a private Camp entrance. This is not the entrance you should use to enter the community. The north entrance off of highway 178 is much more convenient and closer to Rosman. We were lucky to learn this, as it cut off some drive time when we went for hikes. Bubba was a fine host and left us some goodies to enjoy when we arrived. He was very personable and checked in on us often. Overall, great stay that the family enjoyed!

Beautiful home with great views. Very well stocked kitchen with lots of room to spread out for our family. We all enjoyed the pool table, darts and fire pit. We missed out on seeing bears this trip but did enjoy watching deer and white squirrels. Highly recommend.

Great place with incredible views!
High Carolew met our expectations and more. It was exactly what my husband and I wanted for our anniversary. The views were breathtaking. We even saw black bears (safely) from the porch every evening. Great location for hiking tails and water activities. Bubba was a very hospitable and generous host. I can’t recommend this place enough.

Perfect Birthday weekend
A most splendid view that photos simply cannot capture... Fog in the morning lifting to reveal the mountains and lake... and rolling back in in the evening like a blanket. The bears come and visit at dusk... the cicadas sing all evening. The house is a home. We felt welcome from the moment we stepped in... The kitchen is the perfect size to cook and entertain... The bedrooms are comfortably sized with good beds and soft, fresh linens... The bathrooms are clean and stocked with lots of towels! The hot tub is a. fantastic addition to the property and the perfect place to unwind after the day's adventures. Bubba is a gracious host. He made certain that we had the best time possible [there was even a little birthday surprise in the kitchen] and responded quickly to any questions that we had. We had a fabulous time and plan to book again!

Review of High Carolew
This property is located in a beautiful mountain neighborhood near sassafras mtn. It is very well maintained! The kitchen is well stocked with all your cooking needs. The bedrooms were very comfortable. However, it is listed as having room for 12, we were only able to fit 8 adults comfortably. The hot tub is a very welcoming amenity and it was clean, hot and ready to go! The view off the back is unmatched. All in all, we most certainly enjoyed staying here and would definitely rent here again!

Beyond outstanding
Words can not describe our vacation. It was perfect and the pictures did not do our stay justice. It was even more beautiful in person. The hospitality of Mr Bubba was priceless. We had everthing we needed and more. The snacks, milk, cereal, coffee, tea etc, just added to our stay. We felt the love and appreciation from the owners right from the start. The outdoor hot tub was perfect with a view of the mountains and unhindered view of the stars. The master bedroom and bathroom could not have been better. To wakeup looking out over the mountain tops was as if it was a dream. Bubba went further to make sure we had fire wood for our stay. But if you don't like the real deal the exceptional downstairs living room ( with the same view) had a gas fireplace. This was the perfect stay for my family, if Bubba allows us we will be returning! Thank you for sharing your family home with us. Thank you for making us feel welcome. Thank you for making a dream come true by making your home feel to us as if we now have a part in it, hopefully for years to come.

Amazing view! Amazing stay!
I can’t say enough good things about this rental. Bubba (the owner) was absolutely terrific from the beginning to the end of our visit. In fact, he reached out to us immediately after we booked his home given us his contact information, general directions to the house, and some alternate contact information in the event he could not be reached. More importantly, he made us feel not only welcome but like part of the family. He’s a genuinely nice person and a pleasure to deal with. As for the property itself, the first word that came to everyone was Wow. The pictures certainly are a good depiction of the home, but there’s just no way that they could have captured the amazing view of the valley/mountains behind this property. It really was breathtaking and one of the most peaceful places I have ever visited. So if you’re looking for a quiet place to stay, with amazing views, and nature abound, look no further. You will not be disappointed!

Beautiful house; Beautiful view
The High Carolew does not disappoint. Tons of space inside to both socialize and relax. Kitchen has great counter space and a nice bar setting, allowing mingling with food preparation. Living room has lots of comfortable seating space surrounding the fire and TV. The wrap around deck is awesome, with great views and all sorts of options for relaxing outside. We came in late February, early March--but I would definitely utilize the outdoor area even more with warmer weather. The rear-deck hot tub is perfectly set up for mountain or star gazing. If making a real fire isn't your thing, the gas fireplace downstairs gives you another option for relaxing. Beds and bathrooms are all good size, and the house came fully stocked for our needs. Top marks go to our host, Bubba, who provided a warm welcome as soon as we booked, and he responded quickly to any questions throughout the stay. Great place for kids or an adult group to disconnect and relax for a while.
