About this property

75 acres of pastoral paradise just 3 miles from Tryon Equestrian Center!

The Greene Family Farm is a 75 acre pastoral farm nestled in a valley in the Appalachian foothills of Tryon, NC. More specifically, our farm is located in the small community of Green Creek, NC just 3 miles from the Tryon Equestrian Center (TIEC) on Pea Ridge Road, Mill Spring, NC. The home is very large and can entertain large parties of up to 12 people with its outdoor patio, recreation room, large kitchen, 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and 2 living rooms. The entire house was completely remodeled in 2015. We have a scenic pond, a rumbling creek, hiking trails, and equestrian trails on our farm. There's also a wonderful large barn we are currently remodeling to serve our equestrian visitors. The farm is one of the closest large farms to the Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC).

Great stay in the foothills
We enjoyed our stay in Tryon. The house was a great size for our extended family Christmas. We appreciated that the house was decorated for us including a tree! The house has nice sized bedrooms and bathrooms and the laundry room with multiple washers/dryers was amazing. A few suggestions - an extra fridge in the downstairs utility room as the upstairs fridge is quite packed when you are feeding 12 people. Also additional dishware and silverware is needed. We were having to run the dishwasher after almost every meal as there wasn't enough for the next. Lastly, some plastic dishes/cups would be great for kids.

Great house
This was our second thanksgiving spent here. The house was perfect for our large family. Kitchen well appointed, plenty of living space. Appreciate the upgraded nice large TV in the pool room for watching football! House clean, good bedroom to bathroom ratio. Older home so can hear a lot of walking on main floor in downstairs area but didn’t take away from our stay. A lot of washers and dryers which is nice. Area very quiet, nice view of the woods and small pond across the street by the barn and the stars at night. Outdoor area perfect for an evening fire and for kids to play, but be careful on the stone stairs! Mountain Brook winery a 2 min drive away, always a favorite. Looking Glass creamery about 5-10 min away for a nice little visit. Don made check in/check out easy. Nice to stay somewhere that doesn’t have a million check out rules and chores. Would stay again for sure and recommend highly!

Ladies’ Golf Trip
We played two golf tournaments in the area and stayed two nights in this great house. With 6 bedrooms, everyone had their own room which is always a plus. We thoroughly enjoyed the pool table, too. There is a nice patio and sitting area with a gas grill. It’s a beautiful area, and FYI, there is a nice winery right next door!

Pony club champs group
A group of 12, six women and our six daughters stayed in the house for the US pony club championships held nearby at the Tryon equestrian center. The house is a great location for Tryon and very well stocked. The beds are comfortable, lots of towels and linens and comforters, and everything you need to cook for the group. The AC works well and it was very cool despite the heat outside. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone visiting the area.

Beautiful location. Served us well.
We were here for a wedding. House had room for family, friends and a few groomsmen! Large pool table room served as my florist shop! House is 15 to 20 minutes away from grocery stores, so keep that in mind. Contact the owner right away if you run out of paper supplies or have difficulty with water pressure. Owner is responsive and quick to solve problems. Some mattresses need replacing. Plenty of parking including 1-2 covered spots. Lots of washers/dryers. Never did figure out how to work the dishwasher. TIEC is pretty close! Overall, it met our needs well.

Comfortable well equipped country home in beautiful setting. Cordial host.
Worth the drive to this home. The 6 bedrooms gave every couple a private room and the 4 bathrooms meant no lines! Kitchen is very well equipped. Patio is lovely. The pool table was in constant use. Separate sitting areas allowed for small group conversations. Beautiful scenery. A great place to stay. Host is very responsive.

Fantastic stay for a Pony Club event at Tryon. Call Native American six nice size bedrooms with Queens and one can. For nicely appointed full bathrooms. Two large laundry washers and two dryers. Great location near Tryon equestrian center. Don was very responsive and easy to get in touch with. We will definitely stay here again! Perfect for a large group!

peaceful and beautiful
This is an older home that has six bedrooms and four full bathrooms. There was ample room for our group of six to spread out and talk, play board games, listen to music and enjoy the pool table. outside is a grill with a really nice patio and covered area. We used the firepit to roast marshmallows. The kitchen could use some more sauté pans and maybe a griddle. Also, one other recommendation is blinds or black out curtains are much needed in the bedrooms upstairs. We loved this property and would come back again.

Beautiful property, Not so great customer service
I have to preface this that I hesitated to write this review. It seems Don places the blame on guests who leave non 5-star reviews. Pros: The property is breathtaking, even in winter. Plenty of spacious rooms for our large family. Everyone loved the pool table in the game room upstairs. Cons: We contacted Don to add another night to our stay, and were charged extra on top of the rate listed on VRBO. On our first night, baseboards in 2/6 of the beds fell and broke. We contacted Don; he told us he would come fix them the next day. I (the renter) was not in the house when Don came to fix things, and he did not let me know he was on the way. Instead of letting me know he was there, he goes up to my husband and asks “who’s got the money?”. He then goes into the house while the teenage girls in our family were in the home alone while I was in barn setting up for the wedding. My father has worked with HVAC equipment for 20+ years, and warned Don that his unit was freezing. Don claimed it as “it’s an old house” In the listing and in our 2 visits to the property before our stay, we were told crockpots and other kitchen appliances would be there, and weren’t. Don told us that they had been stolen and didn’t replace them. There were 3 propane heaters that we were told we could use, and were told on our first visit in February to the property that some had been stolen & would be replaced in time for the wedding in December. When we arrived, there were still only 3. He told us he would fill the tanks all the way, but did not. When we asked him about this he avoided the question. Don told us we would have access to the barn through the entirety of our stay. Our wedding was Wednesday, so we stored leftover food in the cooler in the barn because there was only one fridge in the house. Don let us know on Tuesday that he is hosting a family party on Friday, but told us we could leave our food in the cooler. On Thursday he tells us we need to remove our food because his family is setting up. When we go to grab it, his family had helped themselves to some of our items without asking. All in all, the property is beautiful and we could not have asked for a better place to get married. But if you are using the house/barn for an event/wedding, make sure everything that is agreed to is in writing in the contract. We could have saved so much headache and frustration had all of this been in writing before our stay.

Great house and property
We had 4 couples and a toddler and still had an extra room! There are 3 seating areas and a pool table. The kitchen table is big enough for 10 people. There is plenty of outdoor seating and a nice fireplace and new grill. We enjoyed many walks to the pond. Beds were comfortable. Bathrooms are all updated. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals. Plenty of parking. Owners are very nice. I almost didn't book because there are too few pictures, but I believed the great reviews and am glad I did.

About the host

Host profile image
We are a family native to Polk county since 1865. We've raised our 4 children here and though we our journeys have taken across the U.S. at times, we have enjoyed coming back to this farm our entire lives. Don is a minister and landscaper and Joan is a speech language pathologist for Spartanburg County schools. We now live just across the border in South Carolina.

Why they chose this property

We are excited to have the opportunity to share a farm our family has loved for generations! The rolling hills, mountain views and cascading rivers of Green Creek, NC were a hidden gem only known to the locals that cherished this area until the fabulous Tryon Equestrian Center opened last year just 3 miles away. We welcome equestrian enthusiasts, cyclists, hikers, wine explorers and those looking for an amazing getway nestled in the Appalachian foothills.

What makes this property unique

Our farm is in a scenic valley, that offers privacy and unbroken views of the landscape. A road winds through the middle of our property, making it very accessible and easy to explore. We have rumbling creeks, rolling hills and a scenic pond to offer our visitors!
