Wonderful cottage on the lake
We enjoyed our stay at this cottage on Smith Lake so much! It is right on the water! Loved how close the dock is with very few steps. It has pretty new furniture. The beds were comfortable with nice clean linens. There are plenty of towels and extra blankets. The kitchen is very well stocked. We had coffee on the deck every morning. We enjoyed cooking out on the grill. The dock was perfect. We so loved hanging out on the lily pad and sitting out at night looking at the stars. We even got to see the Northern Lights. There are also nice canoes to use. It is very family friendly and our host Paula was exceptional!! Wonderful sweet people! Hope to visit again soon!

Amazing view of the lake, great location and nicest owners!
This was our third time staying at this cottage and we had a wonderful time. We love Smith Lake and this cottage has everything that our family needs to have a great vacation. We love that they have 3 kayaks at their dock to get out on the lake and enjoy the water along with their lily pad. Our family loves to fish and we always catch a bunch of fish here. We caught bait (shad) by their green light at the dock and caught lots of fish (spotted bass and catfish). We also booked a fishing guide (Keith Prather) again and caught a lot of big striper. Biggest was 20.5 pounds. Keith will pick you up from the dock at this cottage. We also rented a pontoon for 3 days and docked it at their dock. We took the pontoon to the Lakeshore Inn restaurant and enjoyed a nice lunch on the lake. Since we found this VRBO on Smith Lake, we only want to stay here because it truly has everything we need! Thank you Paula for being a wonderful host! We’re hoping to be back next Spring!

Cozy lake house with great views and amenities
This was our 2nd time staying at this wonderful lake house. We always have a great time here and catch a lot of fish. The house is in a great location on the lake and close to stores and restaurants. The owners are very nice and accommodating. We absolutely love the porch, deck and dock. We also love using their kayaks and lily pad. We rented a pontoon at the marina nearby for 3 days and parked it at their boat dock. Every time we go to Smith Lake we book a fishing charter with Keith Prather of Smith Lake Fishing Adventures. We always catch huge striped bass with Keith. We can't wait to go back to this VRBO lake house. It has everything we need to have a great family vacation!

Nice view, but that’s about it.
First, it’s hard to find. Very unfriendly road and steep driveway unless you have a 4x4. No cell access, very slow internet. House is older and not especially clean. Only 2 flimsy plastic chairs at fire pit. Owner is all business and wants a laundry list of cleaning done before you go including stripping your own beds and hauling garbage up to the top of the hill. We had a good time together here but I would NOT stay at this property again. Sorry ☹️

Breathtaking View! Plenty of room inside and outside.
There was an ample amount of supplies in the house for all of us. We enjoyed drinking our coffee from the long porch looking at a beautiful view of Smith Lake. This was our second "Girls Retreat" to Smith Lake. We plan to come again in 2023 and stay in this same house. The Hills stayed in touch before, during and after our stay. I would highly recommend this VRBO.

Family fun in 2022
A good place for summer fun for family. Nice clean cabin with everything you will need for vacation with the family. We enjoyed the lake and cabin. The grandkids had a great time rowing in the kayaks, swimming in the lake. The girls and I really enjoyed the lillypad, the boys fishing. We cooked great meals in the kitchen. We hope to return again.

Beautiful Tranquil Location
We both truly enjoyed our little mini getaway to the cabin. We were in town for a wedding and enjoyed being able to get away from the crowds and functions when we needed a little space. The cabin is very "homey" and the front porch sits right over the water. Do be careful and heed the notes about not taking the wrong type of car down the driveway as it can be pretty tight at the bottom. I have a large truck and managed well, but would say its a definite no for trailers as per the listing. We would definitely stay here again.

Great Vacation Home
My husband and I, our two adult kids and my son's girlfriend enjoyed our stay at the lake house. Very comfortable, homey feeling. We took advantage of the back deck and the boat dock. We especially enjoyed the lily pad! We even made s'mores one night in the outdoor fire pit. And, Mother Nature brought good weather during our stay. :) All in all it was a awesome break we greatly needed and we will probably stay again in the future. Thanks to Paula Hill for staying ontop of things and checking in on us to make sure we were doing okay.

Wow, Great Place!
This cottage was perfect for our family. It was charming and well kept, but also felt lived-in enough to make us feel comfortable. The lake this house sits on is beautiful and worth exploring if you have time, it goes on forever! The lake isn't particularly wide, but it's really long with several branches and it's super deep. The depth makes it great for swimming without having to squish through any yucky lake mush. The top water of the lake is quite warm and invites you to jump right in. We rented a pontoon boat which was a blast. We toured the lake and found a couple of nice places to stop for a snack or a meal and gas up the boat. The house was super comfortable with nice beds, comfy chairs, and central air which was critical for our stay in mid-July. The Hills were wonderful hosts and very responsive to any and all of our needs. We had a few questions about the area and places to shop or eat or whatever. They've really done a nice job of setting their place up for whatever you might like. The porch has nice rockers to sit in the shade and watch the lake, the deck has a picnic table if you like to eat outside, the dock is an easy walk from the front door and once you get there, they have a lily pad (floating pad to use with the swimming pier) as well as an open boat slip, kayaks, and a jet ski dock. Whatever you want to do on the lake, this house is set up for it. I can't say enough nice things about our stay. In fact, we accidentally left a load of laundry in the dryer in the confusion of packing up to leave, and our hosts promptly let us know and helped organize getting them shipped back to us. To the Hills if you are reading this review, thank you for sharing your little slice of paradise with us! It's hard to believe that you can keep yourselves away from this place for long enough to let other folks use it, but I'm certainly thankful for the opportunity. I would definitely stay again!

Great July 4th
This was a great stay for us and the family. We pulled our boat from Dallas TX and the boathouse made it really convenient for lake access. The views was awesome and we were able to see the fireworks shows across the lake. The short walk to the boathouse and swimming dock made it really great for the kids to go swimming and kayaking at will. We made smores over the fire pit at night and these were great. Once we figured out how to unload the vehicles due to the steep driveway everything was good. Paula was very responsive although we had very little needs. We would stay here again.

About the host

Host profile image
We are from Mississippi and bought this house as secondary home and investment.

Why they chose this property

It is so hard to find a lot that is not steep and is only steps from the water. This home is just what we wanted because you can walk right out your door and take only a few steps to the boat dock and swim pier. We looked at several homes we liked but the lot was too steep. It also has a wonderful covered porch and a deck and fire pit and 235 feet of water frontage and its PRIVATE and sits on a wide area of lake so your not close to other boat slips or houses. We have been coming to Smith Lake for about 5 years and we love it. Plus the house is rustic and unique with its vaulted ceilings and beams and fireplace.

What makes this property unique

We have been coming to Smith Lake for about 5 years and we love it.
The people are so nice and we love to fish for sea bass and ride in our pontoon that we just bought. Previously we rented a pontoon.
You can ride in your boat to Trident and listen to music and eat and then ride back. Its so beautiful and relaxing looking at the beautiful lake homes.
