Step into a time gone by, where the Hideaway Farmlet fills you with romance and charms your soul. Prepare to be enchanted by this unforgettable stay. Live out your farm dreams amongst friendly animals, ancient trees and wild birds. Whimsical discoveries await in your cosy cottage and the entertaining miniature goats will be the highlight of your trip. Old English gardens and farm buildings built in 1948 sets the scene for your getaway.
Your relaxing cottage is the ultimate escape for couples in need of a private and romantic getaway or tired travelers seeking comfort and a memorable stay. Hear the dawn chorus as you wake and ponder your plans for the day. Watch the baby goats frolic whilst you sip your coffee amongst free range ducks, chickens and guinea fowl. Feel cosy and warm as rain rolls in across the hillside. Pack a picnic, hike a mountain nearby, explore rock pools in town at low tide or make it an intimate date night of self discovery. Roll a dice, deal a card or simply watch films in bed... it's all yours for the taking. But before you call it a night, don't miss your chance to view the Milky Way like you've never seen it before.
If you're an early riser, you can join Brad each morning during your stay for a memorable and brief introduction to our friendly miniature goats at feeding time. If you're after a more relaxed experience to compliment your stay, we encourage you to choose your own miniature adventure! These Mini Adventures are an additional paid experience where you get to curate your own memorable farmstay! Choose from an intimate Pat n’ Chat, a relaxing morning/afternoon Mini High Tea (farm style) or indulge in a Farm Sundowner with local wine/whisky & farm produce tasting to enjoy. More details are provided when you book your stay. Bucklings and doelings are generally born on the farmlet each year from August through to November and are available for cuddles all year round.
Hideaway Farmlet is ready for you to unwind, put your feet up and settle in. In your cottage, enjoy a queen bed with luxe bedding, extra blankets and hot water bottles. The small dining table can be extended to double as a work space. The tv is on a timber trolley with remote so you can position it for maximum relaxation in bed if you choose. A DVD player, including a great selection of movies are provided for you. If after dining out you've changed your mind on dessert, we've got you covered. Enjoy some downtime or rekindle a romance with our carefully chosen games, puzzles and books encouraging self discovery and delight.
Your kitchen/cooking facilities include a small outdoor bbq overlooking the paddocks and indoors you have access to a microwave convection oven, toaster and sandwich maker, kettle, fridge/freezer and crockery. A basic breakfast is provided for you which includes coffee, various teas, local full cream milk, juice, homemade organic muesli, organic oats, local bread, and fruit. Any available produce in harvest will be provided for you to sample. Seasonal farm preserves may also be available to purchase along with some homemade craft.
Hideaway Farmlet is central to all popular tourist destinations in the North West of Tasmania. Stay as long as you can, most of our overnight guests wish they stayed at least 2 nights. Be able to complete all your day trips whether it's Stanley to the far West (1hr 20min), Cradle Mountain to the South (1hr 10min), Launceston to the East (1hr 20min) or all the beautiful and unique towns in-between all under an hour's drive. The cottage is described by previous guests as an enchanting, romantic, cosy haven with lots of character... we can't wait to welcome you as our honoured guests to Hideaway Farmlet and know you'll be supporting your hosts to continue sustainable and regenerative practices.
There is a fenced area behind the cottage where you can enjoy views of the front paddocks and watch how the farm animals spend their day. Our family of Australian Miniature Goats will love to come up to the fence to say hi if they are grazing nearby. Our chooks, ducks and guinea fowl roam free, sometimes quietly roosting near your cottage. Our beagle, Orla and our Maremma guardian sheepdog, Shinobi, go between the homestead and yard during the day. They may greet you during your stay. A fire pit, picnic tables, rota tennis, a hammock and natural logs are provided for you to enjoy your surroundings and hillside views. Please advise us if you'd like to use the firepit during your stay and we will check local fire restrictions and prepare the best wood and kindling for your evening farm experience.
Our cosy farmlet consists of your cottage, our homestead and workshop, formed around a large turning circle. There is also an unoccupied tiny barn which we are currently restoring, tucked under the Blackwoods, set a little further away. We respect your privacy at all times and ensure you have ample space to park your vehicle alongside the cottage.
We respect your privacy and have provided an easy self check in and check out process. We are available at any time to accommodate your needs, simply walk over to the homestead or send us a message.
Hideaway Farmlet is located on rural acreage, close to Bass Hwy and Penguin Creek. Usual traffic noise is to be expected however you get to experience all the environmental benefits of living on the outskirts of town. The train passing through the main precinct each night before dawn will not wake you, it is thankfully just a quaint toot in the air. By day, lots of wild birds frequent our property and by night, Tasmanian Pademelons, Wallabies, Possums, Potteroos, Bandicoots and Rabbits visit our gardens from our bush reserve above Penguin Creek.

About the host
Hosted by Lisa & Brad Palmer

We are passionate about breeding friendly Australian miniature goats and are advocates of simple living, regenerative farming, holistic management, permaculture design and chemical free growing. We also love providing guests with the opportunity to slow down in such beautiful surroundings, inspiring them with our story of downshifting with three children and sharing this land which they can briefly call 'home' too.
Why they chose this property
Penguin is in our opinion the most beautiful coastal town with the friendliest community in the North-West of Tasmania. Our little farmlet paradise is perfectly nestled between the ocean and the mountains with the friendliest farm animals to be amongst.
What makes this property unique
As you head under the ancient oak tree to the top of the driveway you truly feel like you've entered an enchanting place, hidden away from it all. Our cottage has a feeling of romance and nostalgia, a cosy cubby filled with homely comforts. We love to share this magic feeling and charming space with others.
