About this property

Get away from the crowd. 400 private acres. Vermont's fresh air. Sleeps 2-14.

HIDDEN VALLEY FARM

Hidden Valley Farm is a picturesque country farm on 400+ acres of land in a quiet, end-of-the-road, secluded valley offering plenty of room for outdoor activities. Its wide-open meadows and trout-stocked ponds are surrounded by breath-taking views of Vermont’s famed maple trees, woodlands, and mountains. Hike our private mountain to enjoy the views. Breathe deeply to appreciate Vermont’s famous fresh air generated by countless trees.

The farm features an old-fashioned red country barn housing a bucolic steer. Enjoy the ambiance of staying in a renovated 80-year-old authentic farmhouse. Also available separately is the Log Cabin (Homeaway property #HA 146185), which is up a hill and almost a football field away. Rent both homes (10% discount) for reunions, weddings, family get-togethers, retreats, seminars, writing practicums, etc.

History
The farm has a colorful history. Its Farm House served as a dance hall, and rumor has it that in the 1920 s prohibition moonshine was made at the farm. That might account for the street’s original name—Pint Road. In the 1930 s, the original Farm House burned and the Corey family bought the then 200-acre property, rebuilt the Farm House and ran the farm as a dairy farm. Next, they bought a cider mill and converted it into the barn. They raised dairy cows—and 11 children—and sold milk, potatoes, popcorn, maple syrup, and lumber, which they sold out of a sawmill they built that is still standing.

The Farmhouse
The 3000-square foot, two-story Farmhouse offers several gathering areas: a modern living room with a fireplace; a dining room; a high-ceiling sunroom with flat-screen TV, a bar, and a wood stove; a fully-equipped sociable kitchen, and a laundry room with washer and dryer. Outside security cameras provide security in the front and back yards.

The Farmhouse sleeps 2-14 with four bedrooms, a sleeping alcove, and two and a half baths. There are three twin beds, three double beds, two queen beds, and a day bed in the sunroom.

Indoor entertainment options include cable television, free wi-fi, books, and board games. A propane grill is on the Farmhouse deck. For socializing around a fire, there is also a fire pit.

The Log Cabin (Homeaway property# HA 146185)
The single-story 1200-square-foot log cabin, one of the few left in Vermont, has all today’s modern conveniences. Situated on a hillside, it is nicely laid out, sleeps 2-6 in two bedrooms, has a full bathroom with two sinks, a living room featuring a traditional stone fireplace, a dining area, an open, full kitchen, a laundry room, and a sitting porch overlooking Hidden Valley Farm.

Activities on the Farm
Great private location for walking, hiking, biking, fishing, swimming, canoeing, and watching for wildlife. Meander through wildflowers. Walk the farm’s meadows. Explore the pine and maple woodlands. Hike our mountain. Barbeque and have a bonfire under the moonlight.

Get re-acquainted with serenity as you breathe Vermont’s legendary fresh air deeply into your lungs to clear your mind and energize your spirit.

Swim in our large pond, dive from its pier. Guests are welcome to use, at their liability, our 2-4 person paddleboat, canoe, and two kayaks on our ponds.

Watch for wildlife. Wild rabbits and families of wild turkeys are likely to march by during the day. Deer come at sunrise and sunset. Listen to owls at night. Foxes are occasional visitors. Like all farms, field mice are present in the fields, but controlled in the house. Hunting is not allowed on Hidden Valley Farm.

In winter, enjoy sledding in the snow on the farm.

Relax with our library of classic books. Wind down with one of our many board games.

Our mission is to send our guests back home refreshed, renewed, and revitalized. Vermont will do that for you. If it’s peace of mind you’re hoping to rediscover, it’s waiting for you at Hidden Valley Farm.

Activities off the Farm
The heart of our small town—the Wells Country Store—offers essential groceries, a variety of homemade baked goodies made fresh every morning, soups, salads, and sandwiches for lunch, and Juli’s excellent wine collection.

The lovely Lake St. Catherine in the Lake St. Catherine State Park is a 5-10 drive, just past the town’s miniature golf course. The park is convenient for picnicking (picnic tables provided), fishing, boating, and jet skiing.

Golf
Eighteen-hole golf is a 10-minute drive to the open-to-the-public Lake St. Catherine Country Club (or at the famed Saratoga National Golf Course, named one of Golf Digest's Top 100 Golf Courses).

Skiing
Hidden Valley Farm is central to all of Vermont’s major ski areas. Bromley is the closest, a 30-minute drive. Pico, Killington, Stratton, Okemo are all about an hour's drive.

Fishing is popular on the nearby Battenkill River.

Local farmer’s markets and craft fairs.

Manchester, the original outlet town, is to the south, with award-winning restaurants and antique shops. Don’t miss the charming independent Northshire Bookstore, Orvis's glorious flagship store, antiques, and arts and crafts shops. Stop in Manchester after skiing at Bromley or Stratton.

To the north, Rutland offers a variety of restaurants for dinner after skiing Killington, Pico, and Okemo.

Heaven on Earth

This is our second visit to Hidden Valley Farm. While there, I asked someone if there concept of 'possession is 9/10 of the law applies' because if it did, I wasn't leaving!!! The property is amazing and the farm house was so very comfortable. I would stay forever if I could. The property manager in Wells was fantastic and the communication with our on-line manager was terrific as well.

Nice farm house

Everything was great, house was clean and spacious. There are 2 ponds you can go paddle out and fish. ot of land were you can hike. The only thing we didnt like is the property owner accuseed us for breaking a window on the barn that we never went near. That we left garbage when we all helped clean up and put all the garbage in the dumpster and charged us $400 because we do not put bed linens in the laundry. Very nice place but it might cost more than you think.

Beautiful Mountain Views

We had a great experience however with the hot weather the house needs another AC unit! The rooms upstairs were very warm! Most of the family slept downstairs. Other than that. The family was in the pond all weekend! House could use a deep cleaning! Sun shining in the front room shows that the windows were not wiped down well. Screen door on sliding glass door needs to be replaced it kept falling off its track. Rooms and bathrooms were clean! My 9 year old grandson had a blast catching bullfrog and fishing! Great home we would stay there again! It’s country living!

Great Vermont Experience

My friends and I had a fantastic weekend getaway at this property. It offers a great Vermont experience with the peaceful environment, gravel road leading to it, and the little town nearby. The sunroom was absolutely fantastic and made a great hangout space for 14 of us. We skiied at Killington and Okemo, which were both about 55 minutes away. I would love to come back in the summer to truly enjoy the entire property.

Old fashioned White Christmas in Vermont.

It was great but it needs flashlights that work or batteries to put in them for we had a power outage due to a winter storm that blew through the area. Would like to say thank you to the host who provide all the basic necessities for our family to be comfortable Ty Pe

A great Christmas for the whole family.

Our family came from PA ME and NY so it was a perfect spot. A nice old farm house with a newer sun room and updated kitchen. There was enough room for all 13 of us including my 80 yo parents that were able to stay comfortably on the first floor. The dining table in the sunroom was able to fit us all for dinners together. We didn’t have enough silverware for all 13 of us, but Merry Lee responded quickly to remedy it. The Wells country store was was fun to go to for lunch one day. We all enjoyed the cows just across the driveway. The kids had a great time exploring the property. It’s was a perfect Christmas getaway with the whole family.

New Years get away

The location is away from everything so plan on driving a good distance for anything. The town store did not have to much in it and was all over priced. The house it self was not clean at all in fact I do not think we should of been charged a cleaning fee. Floors where dirty and the water had a bad stink to it problems with the water softener maybe. I would not stay here again and not recommend it either.

Perfect Weekend getaway

We recently visited Hidden Valley Farm for a weekend family reunion. The location was absolutely beautiful and provided a wonderful weekend. We spent the first evening roasting smores in the firepit outside while watching the stars, the view is spectacular. Our days were filled with fishing in the pond, using the paddle boats and kayaks that were provided, and hiking the beautiful trails on the property. We enjoyed "old-fashioned" fun the second night playing board games on the extended family room table. I can't say enough nice things about our trip! Looking forward to returning. Nancy S.

Most Horrible Rental Experience Ever, Threats, Accusations and Being observed on cameras.

My family rented the farmhouse for a week & the cabin. The 1st night our grandchildren went in the hot tub. We recd a msg from the mgr through VRBO that the owners were very upset we had broken into their hot tub against their policy, it was not properly installed & was uninsured. There is a lot of signage throughout the house, none to let renters know the hot tub is not to be used nor in the renter's binder. We assumed the zip ties were to keep the cover blowing off, there were additional zip ties in the house. The mgr included in her msg that the owners would now need to have the hot tub people come out to resecure it (zip ties)and rebalance the chemicals. She said they would make a claim for this to the ins we had paid. I apologized but was concerned as to how the owners had even known about my grandchildren going in the hot tub. I noticed a surveillance camera that was focused on that area and the yard area in the back of the farmhouse. Their complaint clearly indicated we were being watched. The next day we covered the cameras to prevent the owners from watching us. Again, the mgr messaged me telling me that the owners are even more upset thinking we had disconnected their cameras. I replied we had covered them & will uncover them before we leave. She said she would relay that to them & again messaged me that they are becoming further upset, she wanted me to call her so we can figure out how to appease the owners. I was told the reason for the yard surveillance was so they can monitor for wild animals possibly causing damage to their property. I was also told they had contacted their lawyers. Our 2nd full day I was messaged by the mgr that the owners wanted us to leave, they had contacted the police who would be there in the morning to escort us out.All this because we had used their hot tub although they had failed to indicate it was not to be used and my refusal to allow the owners to observe my family on their cameras. The rules for use of surveillance cameras are clearly defined by VRBO. 2 days after we began our stay the mgr added in the listing notes a referral to the cameras ,days later added another reference to the cameras. We had to leave early, this supposed relaxing vacation was rife with stress & anxiety due to the threats and accusations of the mgr and owners from day 1.We stayed here last year, encountered cleanliness & maintenance issues I felt the mgr responded well to so left a nice review to offset the neg reviews. Never again!

Enjoyable Stay with My Family

My husband and I along with our children and grandchildren stayed at Hidden Valley Farms right after Christmas. We had a wonderful stay, there was plenty of space for us to spread out as well as to be together. The kitchen is spacious enough for several people to prepare meals and I loved the extra prep sink, as well as the extra sink in the bar area. We visited Killington Resort and went snowtubing. One of our days it had rained alot so we went ice skating at an indoor rink. We only had two full days there but would have like more time to do more activites. My family decided we would like to stay at Hidden Valley Farms again next year for a full week. Looking forward to it!!!!! Just a side note, be sure to bring protective footwear for outdoors, it does get very muddy with the rain. After all, it is a farm. Also, a previous guest had complained about mice. I actually did expect to see some, or at least droppings, since again it is a farm. Surprisingly I did not see any mice or droppings, there were a lot of mouse traps around. Merry Lee is an excellent host and is a great communicator.

Unsanitary and uninhabitable

We were unable to stay in this house due to the presence of mouse droppings (one of us is pregnant, one is a young child prone to asthma), and an overall unpleasant musty odor throughout the house, but especially in the upstairs bedrooms. These presented serious health problems for us, and we in fact had to leave in the middle of the night due to asthmatic and allergic reactions. The house was very dusty, minimally clean. Closets, cupboards and cabinets were disorganized and over stuffed so that items were hard to find. We have been in contact with the property manager who was appropriately concerned and responsive, and refunded our money. We have not yet received a refund from VRBO for our booking fee or cleaning deposit. This latter is almost a joke, since the lack of cleanliness was why we couldn't stay. This house has been cleaned only on the surface and is in urgent need of major maintenance and thorough top to bottom cleaning and repair. The screen door from the sunroom was broken and the sliding door held shut with a board, so we were unclear if this could even be used. Since we didn't stay, we never found out. The exhaust fan in the upstairs spewed dust when I turned it on. The ceiling fan in the downstairs bedroom did not work. The exhaust fan over the stove was coated with grime and grease. There's probably more, but I'm sure you get the picture by now.
