About this property

MostRelaxingNatureRetreat/Super Quiet Space in Natural Tropical Forest

Hushed, peaceful surroundings await you when you stay with us at ScottGullyEcoLodge. Situated in the lush Scotland District of Barbados, a miniature rain forest, and close to many tourist attractions. The lodge is part of a one acre family owned property with two other private homes on the property. The cottage itself is tastefully decorated with a mixture of vintage and modern furniture along with locally made baskets and wall hangings from cane lilly, a local grass grown on the property. These pieces accentuate the rustic passion of the owner and her love for these traditional family made handicrafts. Each guest gets to take away something made of cane lilly to remind them of ScottGullyEcoLodge and our beautiful island Barbados. The bedroom is cozy and outfitted with touch lamps, . The orange and pearl colours blend nicely and, according to guests, seem to induce sleep. The bathroom tiling was designed to give a cave-like feel. The dining table seats four and the couch can serve for a bed or to relax and watch T.V or read a book. The kitchen is outfitted with all you need to cook your own healthy meals using the herbs from the garden like rosemary, tarragon, oregano, chives, bay leaves etc to enhance the taste of your food. The outside dining area is perfect for early breakfast and for watching the monkeys at play and the hummingbirds pollinating the flowers. The hammock lower in the garden is perfect for listening to the cooing of doves or the silly laughter of the monkeys nearby. Bird and butterfly watching adds to the relaxation and beauty of this location. This apartment and location is loved by all who visits for its quietude and relaxation. The green savannah grass in the gardens begs to be walked on barefoot as you take your morning strolls. The apartment and its location offers to guest the amazing side of Barbados with spectacular views and a real rain forest feel to this unique side of the island .
ScottGullyEcoLodge is situated in the picturesque Scotland District of Barbados with awesome scenery and much greenery which lends to fresh air and a healthy lifestyle. This apartment was perfect! I have to say the best little apartment for a vacation that I have ever stayed. I have worked for a major airline for 33 years and this takes the cake. From the host, Mrs. Ingrid you will receive nothing but care, kindness and attention to detail; everything is thoughtfully placed. The apartment has everything you need and is in perfect condition. It's all 5 stars because of its comfort and workability. The location is so peaceful that you don't want to leave. Yes, you will see monkeys 25 feet away from your window every morning; so neat and nothing to be afraid of. Yes, awesome hiking trails just a few hundred feet from your door. I can't say enough about this place. I just want to go back soon. Thank you for such an amazing experience. See you next year. If there were a host of the year award from VRBO, Mrs. Ingrid should receive it. Her kindness is next level! I will always stay at this apartment if she will have us.

The real Barbados in the countryside
A good place to stay if you want the quiet life away from the tourist areas. You will need a hire car but the shops are only 15-20 mins away. From the moment we arrived Engrid made us feel very welcome. She prepared a nice meal for us and asked many times if we wanted anything from the shops. I look forward to returning to this property in the near future.

This property was awesome!
Secluded in nature. It was very quiet, peaceful, and relaxing! Falling asleep to the birds, frogs and other wildlife. It's a great spot if you like adventure with lots of outdoor activities and tourist attractions around the east and north part of Barbados. Engrid had been such a wonderful host! She took the time to cook us a delicious dinner upon arrival, especially knowing we'd be tired after a long day of travel. She was so kind to ask what we'd like for breakfast and shopped for us with some snacks in case we were hungry. She had marinated extra fish for us to eat several meals as well! One day after work, she took us hiking through the bushes to a nice scenic point and told us stories about her childhood and life in Barbados. We felt like we had the ultimate local experience! She went above and beyond. We're very happy we've chosen to stay here and she was very welcoming! I highly recommend this place!

Away from the hustle and bustle
We arrived an hour and a half late due to plane delay in Miami. Edith’s sister was patiently waiting for us to arrive with the rental car we had set up through Edith. Once we got on the road it was a trek out to the place. If you like all the crazy tourist stuff then this place is not for you! You definitely need a rental car to get around. And make sure you don’t need to make a quick run to the grocery...it’s at least a 30 minute round trip run. It’s very secluded. We loved it. With Edith’s sisters help we made it to the eco lodge. Edith has prepared us dinner and had enough food to sustain us until we left! She was very gracious, most helpful and willing to help us out at any moment. It was cozy and home for the 4 nights we were there. I promise you that if you’re up for and adventure you’ll love this place. Monkeys, frogs, and birds were everywhere. If you couldn’t see them you could hear them. The bed was pretty comfortable and the space was inviting and suited the two of us extremely well. This is a no fuss kind of place, be prepared to be self sufficient. I’d recommend Edith’s place to anyone willing to be adventurous! It’s worth it!

Secluded Paradise
Barbados is full of kind and generous people but nothing compared to Engrid and her family! Engrid’s sister met us at the airport with a car we wanted/needed to rent to tour around the island. Sister 1 (I’ll call her sister #1 since she was the first one we met) was a joy to ride out to the eco lodge with. She let me drive (I’m from the states so driving on the left was a new experience for me and she handled it with grace! My husband less so, haha). And led me from the back seat with great conversation and tips on where to go and what to see. When we arrive at the eco lodge, Engrid was there with open arms and food ready for us to eat for dinner. We had a long day with flight delay and arrived later than expected into Barbados so having dinner mostly ready was a serious treat! We were pleasantly surprised and overjoyed to have everything ready to eat except the fresh and seasoned fish. Engrid has communicated with us before hand and asked what we liked to eat and she didn’t disappoint. Fresh and local veggies, fruit and breads. She had local fish that lasted us the 4 days we were there and local homegrown eggs! Food to feed the soul! The communication between us was fabulous and nothing less than spectacular. My husband got a nasty chest cold the day after we got there and we ended up spending a whole day at the eco lodge. I didn’t mind a bit. The seclusion, the quietness, and the peacefulness was just what we seek in a vacation. I love to workout on my own if I have to while traveling and the yard was perfect for it. We went to one east coast beach and into Speightstown one day as well. All very great. The seclusion of the eco lodge is what we really wanted and didn’t seek the hustle and bustle of the west coast. If you are seeking night life, restaurants and more lively entertainment then this isn’t for you. If you’re wanting peace, quiet and tranquility then this IS for you. We loved it! I’d do it again, Engrid is amazing!

A gem in the jungle with a great hostess
As a VRBO home renter myself, I know what goes into hosting. Engrid makes an incredible effort to make sure you’re at home. She had a few groceries there without us even asking. The unit was clean, comfortable, and so quiet. We loved being in nature. It’s a bit of a drive but totally worth it . Fantastic for the price as well.

Fantastic
This property was incredible! It checked off all of our boxes, and even the boxes we didn't anticipate. I would definitely recommend this property to others, and I would stay there again next time I'm in the area.

We loved our getaway in nature!
My partner and I spent three nights of our holiday in Barbados at Engrid's place. Engrid was most welcoming and dealt with all queries in a timely and courteous manner. She gave us lots of tips on where to sight see/things to do and made us feel like family! She also helped us with car rental. Her property was clean and beautifully presented throughout. The area is nestled in nature and totally serene. This area was also good for hikes! :)

I love meeting people and sharing my culture with them and learning theirs as well. I love to be positive and believes there is a positive in every situation. One of my mottos of life is: Where there is a problem, there must be a solution. I really want those around me to be happy.

Why they chose this property

The property is situated in the midst of a tropical gully with lots of birds butterfly and bees and these elements lend to a very peaceful atmosphere. You can get away from all the hustle and bustle of other parts of Barbados and hardly see anyone. This property is perfect for those who want to relax, it is perfect for hiking in the hills and streams closeby.

What makes this property unique

This property affords you the opportunity to really relax in a natural environment with lots of outdoor space and areas to do grilling outdoors. Night grilling at the back porch with a few friends is awesome. The upstairs look out can serve as a breakfast area, perfect for cooling down in the evening or reading in the hammock in the evening. This place is a hikers paradise. In the streams, we show you how we catch craw dads in Barbados. It is an awesome experience that only a true local person can give you. We are close to spectacular views of the Scotland District, so hiking is a must. We are also just ten minutes away from many attractions on the island like Harrison Cave, Flower Forest, Hunte's Gardens, Morgan Lewis Windmill, St. Nicholas Abbey, Bathsheba, Hamiltons Pottery, Chalky Mount Pottery and Walkers Reserve.
