All the great details that make a relaxing stay.. comfy beds, plenty of towels, beach chairs & great spot surrounded by the trees.
The Hosts were outstanding!! Thanks for sharing
After vacationing in Macatawa for several years, we decided to make a change and thoroughly enjoyed the DeJong's cottage. The house is cozy and tidy, the balcony overlooking the wooded valley is a great place to relax, and the cottage was very well stocked both indoors and for beach activities. The proximity to the beach is nice, as it made for a quick walk down for a swim or a sunset.
Henry and Susan have elevated the rental experience to true hospitality. They are gracious and responsive to communication and the house is immaculately clean. They provisioned abundant paper products, cozy towels, all the beach equipment you need and a lovely fresh flower arrangement to enjoy. And the patio is a beautiful treat, surrounded by ferns and starry lights. Truly a wonderful experience!
This was the perfect house for our beach vacation. The quiet balcony porches were perfect for reading, the kitchen and grill allowed us to make great meals, and the sunsets over the lake were just a quick walk down the road. The owners were super responsive and the neighbors were kind and quiet. The teens appreciated the fast wifi at the house, then we got them to unplug for a bit at the beach.
Charming place, elegant decor, treehouse feel and unforgettable sunsets
Private beach access. A tastefully decorated and unique house. The feeling of being in a treehouse while having all the comforts, of being away from it all while being near anything you could possibly need. The most beautiful sunsets Michigan can offer. What more can I say? Holland and saugatuck are a short drive away with tons of delicious options for food and drink. The beach is literally a few steps away and the owners provided a wagon, beach chairs, umbrellas and more to make our life super easy. The house was not only spotless but super comfy: from the plush carpets to the extra soft blankets and towels , to the lovely decks that were perfect to enjoy being in the peaceful forested area and listen to the birds sings. It is all decorated with care and love and attention to details . Absolutely recommend!
Comfortable three-level cottage tucked in woodsy hillside, short walk down the road to the beach, spacious and level parking, privacy, several outdoor seating areas on decks, updated kitchen and bathrooms, and lots of windows to enjoy the expansive, tree-lined views. Cottage is built in the shape of a hexagon - on the main (street) level is kitchen, half bath and cozy living room with large TV. Upstairs are two separate but open sleeping areas facing large windows and wood views (a queen on one side and a full on the other), which share a small full bath. Lower level (which is below ground level in hillside) features a queen, a second bathroom with a shower, and a spacious second living area with a TV and its own outdoor deck overlooking the woods. Owners are gracious and attentive. We arrived to fresh flowers on the inside and outside dining tables. The cottage is well stocked with beach chairs and beach towels, and thoughtful supplies like bathroom soap, and even travel size sunscreen and toothpaste. Mac Hills is a very friendly community. Meet neighbors on the beach to watch the sunset. Easy walk to 'Big Red' and the channel. We enjoyed our stay and will be back!
Great Woodland Hideaway with 2minute Walk to Beach
Conveniently located hidden in the wooded Macatawa Hills between Lake Macatawa and Lake Michigan, this very well-equipped cottage was perfect for our 3-week stay. I thought I’d miss being right on the beach, but its serene space in the Woods was only a 2 minute walk to a lovely, sandy private beacch. It does not have central ac, but many fans and lots of screen doors and windows helped cool us off during the one really hot, humid week. The owners were very responsive to all of the small issues we faced, including a 36 hour power outage they were willing to cover unplanned expenses for. Instead, we gladly accepted Susan’s delivery of freshly baked, delicious tea bread. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone seeking privacy, a great beach and lovely sunsets.
We had a wonderful experience at the tree house in the woods! It was a great house for our little family to spend on Macatawa for vacation! Owners were friendly and responsive!
Beautiful cottage with lots of extra amenities and pantry items that made our stay enjoyable. Henry and Susan were very attentive. We hope to return. Our six year old granddaughter wants to buy it and live there!

Beautiful, well maintained and unique property near the lake
We enjoyed our stay very much. The property is very well maintained and equiped with everything you need for a stay at the lake, probably the best in all our experiences. From the kitchen to the beach wagon and chairs, we were very impressed. The location was great, a short walk to the lake from the cottage in the woods. Couldn't have asked for anything more. We would highly recommend staying at this property.

Great location for a short walk to beautiful Lake Michigan.
Super clean and well stocked cottage. It is a 3 bedroom 2.5 bath home. A note* there are no doors on the two upstairs bedrooms. This is difficult to see when looking at the pictures. The basement bedroom, is the basement. Again not a seperate room. This would be great for two couples or a family with small children, we had two couples and griwn children so it was a little challenging. The owners provided items that are not always standard such as toiletries, beach towels and a wagon. Lovely views off the back deck that included deer and wild turkey. The owners are very attentive and quick to respond.

Perfect Tree House Cottage!
We absolutely loved this cottage nestled in the trees! It was perfect in every way! The cottage is in a perfect location that makes you feel like you are in a tree house. It is less than a 5 minute walk to a beautiful beach on Lake Michigan. The cottage is very well supplied with anything you might need including beach towels, beach chairs, rolling cooler, and a beach wagon. The kitchen is also very well supplied for any cooking you might want to do. We will not hesitate to stay here again! Thank you Mr. and Mrs. DeJong for sharing your beautiful cottage!

Lovely, comfortable cottage conveniently located.
We had a lovely stay at this cottage. The owners were attentive and helpful and happy to share their local knowledge. The cottage was very quiet, comfortable, clean and very well equipped, including items such as toiletries and washing detergent. It was very conveniently located with easy access to shops, restaurants and other local attractions. The private beach was beautiful and only a short walk away. We would love to stay there again given an opportunity and would strongly recommend it to anyone wishing to relax in peaceful and picturesque surroundings.

Super nice cottage !!
Henry's property is contemporary and beautiful and he is a gracious host. The cottage was neat as a pin and his grounds are visually pleasing. The cottage has a beautiful kitchen, a wonderful porch for morning coffee and cable/Wi-Fi. It is a very short walk to the private beach at Lake Macatawa. We swam there daily and went back nightly for the fantastic sunsets. The Holland Farmer's Market is a gem and is open Wed and Sat. We ate at a really good nearby restaurant up South Shore Drive called the Black Sheep and drove to Doulas to shop for art and antiques. I was sorry to leave and I plan to return next summer. Loved it!!

Tranquility
From the moment we met Henry and his lovely wife Susan we knew our experience at the DeJong cottage was going to be amazing. We followed Henry up the winding road up to this beautiful, quaint cottage nestled in the shade of the woods. First impressions says it all! The deck area and the beautiful flowers that adorned it were spectacular! Henry gave us the tour of his impeccably clean, beautifully decorated cottage. The kitchen was stocked with every imaginable thing you would need to prepare a meal. From pots and pans to a cork screw and a vase full of summer hydrangeas, it was perfect. The beds were comfy and the bathrooms furnished with the fluffiest towels! We took advantage of the beach towels, sun umbrella and roller cooler, that were supplied, as we took the short walk to the beautiful beach of Macatawa.
Our stay was perfect and can't wait to come back next year. I promise a stay at the DeJong will be the best decision you ever make. Thank you for your hospitality Henry and Susan!

Charming cottage in the cool of the woods, just steps from the sunny beach of Lake Michigan
We were overjoyed to arrive at a darling cottage equipped with everything a family would need. The kitchen was very well furnished with granite counter tops, gas cook top, oven, microwave, stainless steel sinks, etc...everything one would need to prepare a meal. The owner very graciously placed a large bouquet of fresh flowers on the counter top for us to enjoy...a lovely surprise. The beds were super comfortable and equipped with wonderfully silky sheets and duvets. The towels all appeared to be new, fresh and fluffy. Everything was sparkling clean and very inviting. We were particularly pleased that the parking area (probably enough for three cars) was just a few steps from the house. The house is tucked into the woods so we had the advantage of not needing the (provided) air-conditioning. All windows had new screens and we enjoyed the fresh breezes from Lake Michigan. The beach was within a very short walk on a well paved path. A wagon along with beach chairs and umbrella was provided so it made transporting beach supplies a breeze. Our family really enjoyed walking down the beach to visit the lighthouse (Big Red)...lots of photo opts there! There are many local restaurants within a very short drive and we enjoyed all of them...especially De Boers (on Douglas Ave) for breakfast. Saugatuck is a ten minute drive south of Holland located on the Kalamazoo River. It was originally an artists colony and is a lot of fun to explore for artwork as well as food, boating, music, and unusual gift items. The owners of the beach house were delightful to interact with and were always available when we had questions. Our family will forever be ready to return to this property.
