The house was huge for 16 people . We liked the stay but there are two things I want to mention 1) there were not enough blankets and blankets were too old and washed . 2) as well as the house was not clean enough there were spider webs all over the house .
This house fits our extended family perfectly, everyone having their own bathroom is a luxury! The location on the lake is perfect, quiet and away from the main lake, shallow enough for the kids to feel comfort. This was our second year booking and we are booked again for next year. The one thing I will mention is the cleanliness of the house. This year was worse than last year. The house needs a deep clean, but also needs more attention to the smaller stuff. We come in both years to have to clean the toilets from mold, showers too and there is dust on the ledges every where. This year we had to wash linens. Wish the management company would take a walk through after one of the cleaning ls and see the results that the team does. Ilwe expecte to have to clean a little, especially because it is a quick turn between renters, but for the amount of cleaning we had to do I wonder what the team is doing. No matter though, it's a great house, just know what you are getting!
The house fit us well. The dock was great, spent a lot of time on it. The views were nice. Good location to food stores and coffee shops. Would rent again.
I’d agree with the reviews on here and state that the house definitely needs a deep clean. Things like pots, pans, coffee pot etc also needed to be washed. Overall great older house with plenty of space. Shallow water great for our younger kids.
Our family had an incredible vacation at Beautiful Lake Gaston. The house was nicely stocked with equipment. The extra frig in the basement was a plus but maybe needs to be updated. Had a little trouble regulating the water temp in the upstairs bathroom but not really an issue. We will be back.
This is a fantastic property for a family stay at Lake Gaston. My family including 4 kids from 6 to 18, and my sister in-law's family with 2 more kids from infant to 3 years all had a blast. The fishing was great, the creek was awesome for tubing and skiing without too much traffic, the main lake is close, the dock is big and ties it all together. The house was plenty big for all of us, with large dining and kitchen, lots of gathering spaces, and the older kids enjoyed the ping pong table. Everything was clean when we arrived.
We had an issue with one of the bed frames when we checked in. After calling the property manager, the owner personally came out and fixed the issue promptly.
The house isnt without quirks, for instance the fridge, microwave, and toaster are all in the same corner of the kitchen, so it frequently felt like several people were all fighting for the same small space even though the kitchen is large. The microwave is a smaller, older style that takes twice as long to cook things as newer/larger models. The end of the dock is in about 4' of water, so not able to dive or do some jumps the kids have been able to at other places. The edge of the dock has bumpers/rails with bolt heads that stick out a little, so be careful where you tie your boat off and use your own bumpers!
None of those quirks are anything that would reduce our rating. We thoroughly enjoyed our week on the lake at this property and would recommend to anyone.
Our family spends a week at Lake Gaston every summer. This was our third year at this property. We love it because it is very family friendly, spacious, close to town and a great area to pull the kids behind the boat. The hosts are wonderful and we always enjoy our time here.
This was our second year staying at this property. Last year it was cleaner. I don't think the bathroom floors have been cleaned in a long time. I was in the master bedroom and the bathroom floor had a lot of scum on the floor with hair stuck to it. There was also food stuck on the cabinets in the kitchen. Be careful if you bring your own boat. There are some sort of bolts sticking out the side of the dock and boat slip that left big scratches down my friends boat even though he had bumpers on it. Other than these couple things we love this property. Our second year in a row staying there. Looking at possibly booking it again for next year. Great location and a very nice home.
We had 3 generations of family. 12 total with 6 aged 17-22. The basement was a great space for “the kids” and the upstairs bedrooms worked well for us. The huge table allowed us to eat together and play games after dinner. The boat house was great with plenty of deck area as well as shade and a great napping swing. Quiet back at this part of the cove which was perfect for all of our SUPs and kayaks. We also did daily swims. Loved the whole place!
The previous reviews stated the house was extremely dirty and honestly we went in with low expectations. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Two kind women were working when we got there, and when they left we could tell they cleaned, I would only suggest the house get a deep clean, it is outdated in some aspects but the layout and view make up for it. One of our favorite houses we have stayed at in the many years of going with the family to Lake Gaston. The yard, shallow water, beach and boat house were all perfect for the whole family. Look forward to coming back
The home was well suited for all our guests. The family and grandchildren had a ball swimming. Some of the items in the home néeds a little up dated or replaced; i.e. frig in kitchen leak’s periodically and the frig on the dock does not stay cold. The kitchen faucet is very hard to shut the water off completely.
Let me preface by saying we have owned waterfront vacation rental properties for 37 years and are aware of the standards that should be met. The lower level, which sleeps 5 had a horrible smell. No one could sleep down there. On Monday we looked in the garage. There were over 8 black Hefty bags piled up with rotting garbage. Some bags had split and spilled refuse on the garage floor. I wrote to the owner and got no response. On Tuesday I wrote again demanding someone come remove the garbage. The response was he was looking for someone to do it. On Wednesday a nice handyman came and removed the bags which filled the back of the pick up truck. He replaced the moldy shower curtain liner that we and a previous renter had complained about. He looked at the refrigerator on the dock that did not close properly and said he had replaced the gasket but it didn’t fit and the owner should buy a new refrigerator. The kitchen appliances are ancient. The dishwasher doesn’t dry (already noted by prior review), the faucet drips (already note) the ice maker leaks and we had to put towels down to prevent falls (dangerous). The exterior has mold, rotting wood and cob webs everywhere. Not spider webs. The tv in the living room is outdated. The water shut off on Wednesday during dinner. We had to buy water. The owner said we had used excessive water (party of 12) and told us how to turn it back on. The master bath toilet filthy, outdoor furniture dirty. This property has been sorely neglected.
Location Fantastic… House layout was great, especially for family and Large Group…Overall we had a great week at the lake…
However some minor updates could be done,..Ex. Bunk Beds…Path down to dock…Dryer…Microwave went out
Overall we would recommend this property to all…

Good for large group
Overall, good experience. We didn't contact the host/manager for any issues during our stay because they were relatively minor, not worth our time and effort to address.
The good:
- House is large and open
- HVAC worked well
- appliances functional
- bathrooms updated
- very nice dock
- paddle boat available (nice surprise not included in description!)
- quiet location with plenty of parking
- beds generally comfortable enough
- toaster oven, toaster, med crock pot, electric hand mixer included in kitchen
Not so good:
- most shower curtain liners had black mold spots
- multiple door issues (back doorknob loose, at least 2 bdrms and 2 bathrooms had doors that wouldn't latch shut, some interior door locks didn't work), and back door off kitchen has a lockbox on exterior handle, which makes door difficult to open
- couches, upholstered chairs, and pillows are quite worn
- cookware should be replaced
- bunk beds on main level broke (looking back at photos, it was already cracked and leaning, but was mostly covered by the bedspread)
- kitchen could use a Keurig
- dryer took multiple cycles to dry every load
- dishwasher "heat dry" leaves dishes still wet
- dust on hard furniture/lamps
- found underwear in basement bdrm closet, men's shirt and boxers in corner of upstairs bdrm
- unreliable internet svc
- most lamps unplugged upon arrival (some need ext cords)
- some lamps missing knob to turn on
- TVs: LR TV very small/awkwardly placed, only 1 bdrm has TV, basement TV ancient

Great Layout, Could Use Some Updates
Great layout to give everyone space and sleeping quarters. The dock is a special place, the fridge being a nice touch there to keep beers cold, though the microwave doesn't work. Nice finger of the lake, not too busy with boast and jetskis. The downstairs den area is great for kids to have their own space. I personally liked having the pingpong table, and we made use of some of the games, books, and many puzzles. The kitchen sink faucet was a problem as it requires a very specific "off" position to actually turn off. It's possible that this wasn't completely off at the time the water shut off to the entire house, apparently a feature that happens when the system detects a leak -- it did come back on in about 30 minutes. There is a vast difference between the bedrooms downstairs and up; one of the upstairs beds was rock hard but was remedied with layers of house blankets, and the other upstairs bed was positioned on a severe slope that made the users feel like that part of the house was falling off and their heads were lower than their feet -- they reversed positioning so it would help. Bathrooms upstairs were uncomfortable for men standing up to pee, as they claimed they'd hit their heads on the ceiling, and one of those showers had a nasty, moldy shower curtain that grossed out the users. Overall a great week though and likely this group's best layout for a house to share in the 9 years we've been gathering for a summer trip.
My family rents at LKG yearly and this was our second year at this property. It is extremely family friendly and a nice, quiet neighborhood. The house had everything we needed. We cooked all but a few meals and the kitchen and large eating areas accommodated us and all the kids well. The kids particularly enjoyed the pink pong table area (we had a Dude Perfect competition) and the yard and boat house. We also enjoy the beach area and shallow water for the little ones to swim. Phillip was a great host and when we did have a question he answered quickly! We hope to be able to return next year!
This house is on an amazing piece of property for enjoying the lake! The water depths were great for kids and adults. The kitchen is well stocked and the house felt overall very spacious. Would definitely come back.
It’s an older cottage with a wonderful layout inside and a really nice boat house. For our six couples and a few grandchildren it was perfect. Gentle slope to lake!!! No steps to get there. Would stay again. Bring your own ping pong paddles if planning on playing. The paddles had no rubber on them.
This was our second year staying here. We really enjoy the house layout and dock.
For our family the layout of the house is perfect. The bunk room downstairs was great for the teens and the bunk room upstairs was perfect for our 6 year old. The dock and cove are great also.
Our immediate family of 11 thoroughly enjoyed this spacious home. Would definitely recommend this house to other large families looking to stay on the lake.
Loved our family vacation at Summer on the Lake. Communicative owner, simple check in and out and fantastic house. No complaints about cleanliness at all. Weve stayed at house before and were impressed with some updates (flooring on many surfaces especially). Dock is fantastic, house is huge... We will be going back
