I went looking to just get away from life for a bit and my stay offered exactly that - quiet, peaceful, and with the amenities I wanted (hot tub and fireplace). Saw deer each day and met some friendly neighbors on a walk on the frozen lake. Truly appreciated the time spent there.
We had a wonderful time all told, but I will share a few issues that we ran into as I think these are most helpful to people.1. The driveway was steep and unplowed and was difficult to get up. 2. There was an excessive amount of emphasis in the "checkout procedure" left by the owner on cleanliness, going so far as to say we should leave the space "as clean or cleaner than it was found at arrival" while at the same time making repeated reference to the importance of not checking in early, or checking out late to allow time for housekeeping to do their job. At the same time, the space was not excessively clean. There was plenty of dust in all the corners and under furniture and whatnot. It just seemed a little unfriendly in tone and not in keeping with the casual cottage vibe. If you are going hold your guests to this high standard, you should make sure the place is immaculate. Alternatively, since the place is rustic and not perfect, be a little more easygoing with your guests.
Beautiful spot to get away. We enjoyed hiking, local restaurants, relaxing in the hot tub and a fire at night. Gorgeous sun set view. Communication with Deanne was great.
We really enjoyed our stay! The cabin is rustic and has everything you need. I loved that it was decorated for fall. We really enjoyed the hot tub and the view of the lake is beautiful. Very quiet and peaceful, but not that far from restaurants and shops. The owner checked in to make sure we had everything we needed.
The property was just as explained in the listing! It was clean and in a nice, quiet area. It was perfect for our family of 4 for our first time visiting Maine. We enjoyed the hot tub and games provided as well as their nice campfire area. The property owners were very kind and quick to respond to any questions we had. I would definitely stay here again!
Beautiful place with a nice view and sunset. Saw deer in the yard and the access to Moosehead Lake and the area we hunt was great. Saw lots of game and a big bull moose.
Very relaxing and peaceful place with a beautiful view. Remote but still close enough that in 10 mins you could drive to town (watch out for moose) or walk to Moosehead lake or a hiking trail. The family of deer that visit are such an added bonus. Host was very responsive. Thank you for sharing you place!
I expect much more from VRBO. We love the area. But this property does not meet our expectations at this price level.
VRBO
⁃ front door coming off of hinges
⁃ key lockbox very difficult to operate
⁃ open spaces on 3rd level railing; extremely unsafe for children
⁃ basement / 1st level cold and musty
⁃ furniture worn and ripped
⁃ light bulbs out on ceiling fan
⁃ leaking sink handle
⁃ cut hazards on floor grates
⁃ kitchen cabinets that don’t close
⁃ floors, walls, doors badly worn and scratched
⁃ no bathroom on master bedroom level
⁃ yard and landscaping unkempt
⁃ questionable structural stability of deck supports
⁃ mountain and lake views are only a glimpse from the third level bedroom balcony
⁃ house in need of repainting
⁃ extensive wood rotting on deck and around house
⁃ solar entry light into driveway does not function
This property was perfect for what we were looking for. The house was clean, beautifully designed as you would imagine a deep woods home in Maine would be... deer visiting us every day. I think it is rare that you can find a home to rent that is better than what you imagined, and this home was ! The owner, Deanna was more than helpful, we thank her very much for a great trip !
We had a great summer vacation in this lovely home on Moosehead Lake. The house itself has everything anyone could need, and it is situated in a great spot. We hiked nearby trails and kayaked on the beautiful lake every day. Couldn’t have asked for a better week.
We had an amazing extended stay at The Ledges. It was our 2nd time at this property but the first time in the summer season. Trees provide complete privacy on the beautifully landscaped property yet there are neighbors close enough that you don’t feel isolated. The home is immaculate and well equipped with anything and everything you could want or need, from kitchenware, bath items, games and movies for all ages, streaming tv, ac and a generator in case power is lost! It is easy to settle in and immediately feel at home. Wildlife is abundant with daily deer visits. We loved access to the association beach during the day and gazing at the stars at night from the hot tub. The owners are the nicest people and checked in regularly for maintenance. Thank you Larry and Deanne! It was a perfect summer at the lake!
My family of four had an awesome weeks vacation in mid June at the property in beaver Cove Maine. We had never visited this area of Maine before and was so delighted as how beautiful the area was and so much to see and do . We could not have picked a more perfectly set up House or location. From the wildlife that comes to visit daily to the interior décor super cute. We used the kayaks on moose head lake and made s’mores from both out door fire pit and in door fire place. I would definitely love to rent again. Owners were very nice and where helpful with area info.
Beautiful spot, off the beaten path. Deer everywhere, and not shy. We had a wonderful stay in your home overlooking Moosehead Lake. Would not hestate to stay at this property in the future.
This property exceeded our expectations which is always so nice. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The kitchen was amazing and the beds were comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was great! One of my personal ways I rate a property ! Ha We were very early in the season and even without any of the usual outdoor activities we enjoyed the rest and relaxation in such a beautiful setting. The property manger Deanne was amazing - very responsive and accessible and helpful. It is always a good sign when you stay at a Vrbo and want to return in the future. Thank you for sharing your lovely property with us.
My husband, dog and I just enjoyed a week at The Ledges. The home and property are beautiful! The views of the lake and mountains from the deck and master bedroom go on forever. The kitchen is gorgeous and designed for those who like to cook. The fireplace was so relaxing for reading and napping on the comfy couches. A hot tub soak at the end of the day was heaven! It was exactly the respite we needed. Deanne and Larry are wonderful hosts and very easy to communicate with. We already booked for the summer and can’t wait to return!
We rented this property for our vacation/honeymoon (we got married in Monson while here). I could go on about the view and the hot tub, which were spectacular, but above all else: this place is SILENT. If you’re used to road noise, excessive bird squawks, or insects and tree frogs going on, be prepared for NOTHING. Well, nothing save the occasional loon, chipmunk, and a lonely moose braying in the distance. Absolutely tranquil and very much needed. Also, be prepared to feed a clan of about eight deer for whom this is a regular restaurant; the does are docile enough to hand feed. Greenville is a wonderful town about eight miles away, and the drive up is very well maintained. We were impressed with this stay and would return in a heartbeat!
The cabin was very comfortable, relaxing, enjoyed the deers coming up to be fed. Enjoyed sitting by the fire pit. Memories were sure made this past week. would recommend this for a vacation. Deanne was wonderful to work with.
This house served our purpose of visiting a portion of Moosehead Lake. A location on my husband's bucket list.
We really enjoyed Lily Bay State Park, because after driving from Maryland, it was close by. Other spots of interest are the B-52 Memorial, Moxie Falls, and hiking the Prong Pond trail.
Fortunately, even though we experienced very windy weather, the first couple of days, the sun stayed out until the day before our departure date. We enjoyed the deer, wild turkeys, but no moose! A couple of afternoons, I sat on the deck and read my book. It was very peaceful and very time I looked up; I saw Moosehead Lake.
This property is beautiful, relaxing and quiet.
Everything inside and out was in excellent condition and worked properly. There were condiments, spices and everyday ingredients available for use in the kitchen. The bathrooms were fully stocked even shampoo, body wash and tissues. The owners made the stay comfortable and had all necessary info and numbers posted and in a binder. We enjoyed the hot tub and view from the upper deck. We were greeted by the deer daily (at least 7) and enjoyed seeing the fawn.
Deanne was super helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and very responsive. She even made sure the stay would be fun for our 3 year old! There were movies and games for adults and kids and this is a dog friendly stay. We will be coming back here!
Amazing, THANK YOU!
We are a group of 5 women that have known each other ranging from 10-20+ yrs. We take a 1 week vacation every year with each other. We are Best Friends. We all agreed that we had a pleasant and peaceful stay. We did not have a problem at all. The view is beautiful.
Thank you

About the host

My husband and I have owned and self managed this property for 5 years. We strive to help our guests plan the most enjoyable stay, making memories while staying in our home away from your home and taking in all that Beaver Cove and the Moosehead Lake region has to offers.
Why they chose this property
Our property is situated on 2 private acres divided from other homes within The Ledges area by woods, yet we are minutes away from Moosehead Lake, Lilly Bay State Park, Greenville for shopping, restaurants, hiking trails and Friends of the Mountain Ski Resort, etc.
What makes this property unique
ATV and Snowmobile trails can be accessed right from the driveway. Play, sight see and shop Moosehead area during the day. Cook in our fully applianced kitchen or outdoor grill on the deck, then wind down in the hot tub at night under the stars and end your day in front of a cozy fire.
