About this property

The Wharf House - Old World Charm By The Sea

The Wharf House is a beautiful and historic 18th century property located on the shores of the Montego Bay Lagoon, a large saltwater inlet of the Caribbean Sea which is part of the Montego Bay Marine Park. For several decades, The Wharf House has also been - and remains until today - one of the homes of our family.

We are not - nor do we aim to be - a hotel. We are a small and intimate villa, offering four bedrooms furnished with family-owned antiques and lovely artwork from the Caribbean. Each of our rooms is unique, but all of them reflect - we hope - our passion for “beautiful things”…be they furniture, paintings, art & craft items, or merely the views you have from your bedroom windows.

The Wharf House has its own small private pebble beach, a swimming pool shaded by massive cotton trees, a large seaside dock, and expansive tropical gardens dotted with a wide variety of fruit trees - mangoes, coconuts, ackees, breadfruit, avocados, lemons and pomegranates. Our staff will be happy to help you to sample some of these fruity delights.
Our property is home to a wide variety of wild life. The lagoon teems with fish and other sea creatures, and our gardens are filled with birds & bees & butterflies & lizards. And, yes, these wonderful creatures sometimes make their way into our house...and we would not want it any other way. Please bear this in mind when considering a vacation at our home.

We - and several generations before us - have greatly enjoyed living at The Wharf House, and we very much hope that you, too, will enjoy your stay…however long or short it may be.

Location:
The driving time from Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport to the Wharf House is approximately 15 - 20 minutes. From our property, you can reach the Fairview Shopping Center (with its large supermarkets, pharmacies, and wide variety of trade shops) in about 10 minutes, by car.

Rooms:
The Wharf House has four bedrooms. All bedrooms are equipped with ceiling fans and A/C. The rate for renting the entire property is currently US$900 per night.

Two of our bedrooms - the Sea View Bedroom & the Garden View Bedroom - are located in the Main House. These two bedrooms are adjacent to the common living room & inside dining area.
The "Sea View Bedroom" has an antique king-size four poster bed, a walk-in closet, en-suite bathroom, and is equipped with a ceiling fan and A/C.
The "Garden View Bedroom" has antique twin beds, a walk-in closet, and is equipped with a ceiling fan and A/C. The Garden View bathroom is located in the Main House, across the living room.

Our other two bedrooms are, in fact, stand-alone cottages.

The “Sea Side Cottage” is located against the very shores of the Montego Bay Lagoon, offering lovely views of the Caribbean Sea from your four poster king-size bed. This cottage has its own small private terrace, walk-in closet, en-suite bathroom, ceiling fan & A/C.

The “Pool Side Cottage”, located a little further back in the gardens, is very private, and has antique twin beds and its own separate access to the shared swimming pool. It, too, has a walk-in closet & en-suite bathroom with shower, ceiling fan & A/C.

Our rates include all taxes and free high-speed WiFi. A staff gratuity of 15% of the total cost of your stay is customary & will be very much appreciated.
Please note that during our main season - from December until April - we give preference to those bookings which are for a minimum stay of one week.

Amenities:
The Wharf House has a separate & large building, which can be used for meetings, Yoga, dance, and retreats of all kinds.
A small kayak & several paddle boards are available for guests who wish to explore the Lagoon. Snorkeling equipment is available for those who wish to explore the nearby reef. Also on property: a ping-pong table & a wide variety of board games.

Staff:
The Wharf House is staffed at all times by our live-in caretaker, Leroy, our housekeeper, Lerlene, and our cook, Pinky.

Additional services - Cook:
The services of our excellent cook, Miss Pinky, are included in our rental rate, but you will have to purchase your own groceries for the preparation of your breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Please contact us for cost details and general information.
Please note that we do not permit guests to cook their own meals.

Additional services - Driver:
If you require a driver, to get around…no problem. The Wharf House works with several reliable and reputable licensed tourist taxi drivers who will be happy to take you anywhere you wish to go. This service comes at an additional charge. Contact us for cost details & general information.

Additional services - Massages, reflexologies, facials, Reiki, chiropracter, yoga classes etc.
The Wharf House has its own spa room, located right on the sea. Enjoy the sound of the waves lapping against the shore, as you are pampered by one of our professional therapists. These services are available by prior appointment only & come at an additional charge. Contact us for cost details & general information.

Furthermore:
Four major golf courses, deep-sea fishing, scuba diving, sunset catamaran cruises, zip-lining, river rafting and horseback riding are all within easy reach of our property; as are several restaurants and jerk centers, a cinema, the famous Doctor’s Cave Beach, and much more. We will be happy to help you with reservations & recommendations.

You can also book the Wharf House (subject to availability) for an event: a wedding, spiritual retreat, party, family reunion, etc. Please contact us for conditions & pricing details.

Security:
The Wharf House is secured by Hawkeye Security’s 24 hour monitoring service. A security guard will be on-property every evening, from 7pm until 7am the following morning.

Beautiful Stay At The Wharf House

Our family had a wonderful stay at the Wharf House. On arrival, we were greeted by warm smiles from the house staff. During the stay, the staff made every effort to make sure our family was well cared for. The views were breathtaking, and the food was delicious. The house manager, Nikki is lovely. She was straightforward to communicate with and very understanding of our needs. We can't wait to visit again soon.

Stefan was an 5 star host. extremely helpful, friendly and enjoyable to chat with when he would stop by to check in. Cannot say enough good things about our time at the wharf house villa. Amazing place and staff

This place is historic and beautiful. My family had a wonderful time... some paddleboarded, others combed the stone beach area, but mainly we enjoyed our family time and the amazing meals prepared by Miss Pinkie. Would like to return but....

Quick Getaway

Thank you so much for being so accommodating. The pictures on the website truly didn't do this home justice. What a lovely welcome! The doors were open, the ocean breezes calling our name as we walked through your doors. The patio and deck were beautiful and perfect for our family get together. The meals were amazing. My friend from Nevis is still talking about the rundown. We will definitely be back.

Better than we could have imagined

What a spectacular vacation the staff and owners were so great. We couldn't have dreamed up anything like we experienced at The Wharf House. The history and stories from staff and owner were fun and taught us things. The water was warm and we saw starfish, crabs, and all types of fish. Thank you for a vacation we will never forget.

Best of the Best

Words and pictures cannot capture the beauty of this place. Waking up to amazing sea views, enjoying a bountiful breakfast on our expansive dock, kayaking on the peaceful bay, exploring the expansive property, the list goes on and on. The hosts and staff could not have been more welcoming and attentive. Pinky's food was delicious. Verol, the driver, was easy to work with and always ready to haul our 9-person crew. There is only one way for us to visit Jamaica now, and this is it. We are totally spoiled.

Take Me Back!!!

Our visit to The Wharf House was absolute perfection! The property is stunning and the staff was welcoming, warm, helpful and just fantastic. Pinky's cooking is not to miss! Her food embodied the soul of the island and it's people. Everything was delicious and her salad dressing should be bottled! Elisha & Leroy were helpful and attentive every day. The attention to detail in everything was above & beyond our expectations. It is the ideal place to visit when you want to relax and get away from your everyday life, you may never want to leave as we all did! Thank you Nicky & Stefan for an unforgettable amazing weekend!! We will be back!

May be my favorite place in the world

I love this villa and the beauty, elegance, peacefulness and relaxation that it brings to our Jamaican vacations. This was our second visit and it actually exceeded my amazing memories of our first stay two years ago. Stefan and Nicky are the warmest hosts and really seem to take pride in making our time at the villa as wonderful as it can be. The location is unbeatable, the bay is lovely, the property is gorgeous and the staff makes it perfect with their friendly service. I honestly think I will never rent another place in Jamaica. On this trip, in addition to my own family, I brought along my mom and my sister and 2-year old nephew and they loved the place as much as I do. There is something for everyone - beach, dock, pool, quiet places to read or nap, snorkling, paddleboards, sunshine, music, great food! I can't wait to come back, which hopefully will be very soon!!

Perfect Jamaican Getaway

How much space do we have here to say how amazing our trip was??? This week we stayed at Stefan and Nikki’s Wharf House Villa and everything exceeded our expectations. The staff catered to our every need…even the needs we didn’t know we had. Big thanks to Pinky, Lerlain, Leroy and Russell, who made our stay perfect. We experienced true Jamaican cuisine and culture, all while staying in a private picturesque setting. All options were made available, whether it was staying on the property and enjoying the ambience all day (which we did for several), or traveling to other hot spots on the island. Our adventure to Negril for the day was a perfect outing, all facilitated by the Wharf House and their transportation connections. (Special thanks to our driver, Junior) If you are looking for a true Jamaican experience, then look no further than The Wharf House. They are the true definition of Jamaican hospitality.

Scared Space

My total experience at the warf house was pure extascy. I was there for a 5 day shaman priestess training retreat. A perfect place to indulge the 6 senses and more. The beauty of Jamaica with its sunrises and sunsets over the Montego Bay. The native plants, and trees on the proerty pure pure bliss. The warf house and the surrounding property has an energy anout it. The history alone brings forth the energy of peacefulness and love. The sense of family felt there as well. The staff was loving took great care of us. The food was absolutely amazing. From traditional Jamacian cuisine to very healthy dishes to meet the needs of everyones diets. The rainbows so many rainbows.I can not wait to return.

Absolutely wonderful!

The Wharf House was the perfect place for our family to enjoy the beautiful island. Stefan and Nikki were incredible hosts. They responded quickly to any questions we had, communicated clearly about everything, went out of their way to make us comfortable, and Stefan gave us lots of great information about things to do, places to visit, and a driver we could use. The property is beautiful-right on the water and surrounded by gorgeous trees. We thoroughly enjoyed the private beach, the dock, the pool, and the hammocks. I can't think of a more picturesque place for family meals than outside on the deck overlooking the water. Meals deserve a review of their own, as the food prepared by Miss Pinkie was truly incredible. Each meal was a new feast for the senses. From the chicken stew, jerk chicken, fish, and shrimp dinners, to the coffee, eggs, bammy, and fresh fruit for breakfast, each meal was delicious, plentiful, and a taste of Jamaican home-cooking (all clearly prepared with love.) Lerlene and Alisha who helped to set and clear all of the meals were wonderful, and Leroy and the evening security person, did so much to help us feel comfortable and at home. We truly cannot imagine a more perfect way to visit Montego Bay. It would be hard for anyone to not love this beautiful place and the people there~

A Three-Generation Family Holiday That Was Superb in Every Respect

We are a family with three generations who regularly travel together. In the last three years, we've been to Vietnam, Mexico, Italy, and England. We always pick villas, apartments and home stays, rather than hotels. I picked Wharf House based on the photos and strong reviews. We had a wonderful stay many years ago at a very fancy Villa on Jamaica's Discovery Bay; Wharf House was, overall, much more enjoyable, and at roughy half the price. For this trip, we were 10 people -- my wife and I, my daughter and son-in-law, grandchildren aged 16, 8, 7, and 5, plus an au pair and an older friend of my wife's and mine.. Wharf House was a perfect venue for a week's stay in Jamaica. We booked the entire premises, including both main house bedrooms, the two cottages, and a bedroom for our 16-year-old grandson in an additional cottage on the premises that isn't listed on the website. We did very little for the whole week other than enjoy each other on the expansive deck, al fresco dining, and the spacious pool. We were admirably cared for by Stefan and his staff, including Miss Pinky, Elisha, and LeRoy. We planned all meals with Miss Pinky, went out shopping for groceries on our own and with Stefan, and had the fun of dinners with Miss Pinky's oxtail stew, jerk pork, chicken stew, and barbecued ribs, all accompanied by great vegetables and green salad. The photos on the website capture Wharf House's amenities perfectly, but can't convey the spirit of the place and the enthusiasm and dedication of the staff. It's the combination that can't be beaten. Our young grandchildren cried when they said goodbye to the staff. Nothing more need be said, except that we'll come back -- ideally the next time with our son, daughter-in-law, and other three grandchildren as well.

Beautiful and Relaxing; Home Away from Home

Myself and three colleagues stayed at the Wharf House from 1/2/17 to 1/7/17. From the moment you enter and see the view from the back deck all cares drift away. I can not capture in words how beautiful the deck was in the evening with all the different colorful lights hanging from the trees. In the morning the ocean view is spectacular; the water calm and tranquil. The property is so beautiful both inside and outside. It is very welcoming and comfortable. We stayed in the garden view and ocean view rooms in the main house. The beds were very comfortable and I loved coming in at night to find the bed turned down. The rooms had refreshments available anytime which was just perfect after we would return in the evening. Our hosts Stephan and Nicky met us the first evening and provided such a warm welcome. For the remainder of our stay Stephan was always available if we needed anything. Pinky made the most scrumptious meals each day and packed us wonderful lunches for each afternoon. We had delicious preparations of shrimp, pork, chicken and fish along with wonderful side dishes. Two of us were vegetarians and our dietary needs were perfectly met. You will never eat any other fried chicken once you have had Pinky's fried chicken. I do so miss Pinky! Breakfast was amazing with fresh coffee (most important), eggs, fresh fruit and fresh baked breads and muffins. Each morning and evening Elisha would be sure everything was just perfect and greeted us each day with a warm and welcoming smile. One highlight of our stay was fresh coconuts from the property that Leroy expertly prepared. The coconut water was so very refreshing. I can not say enough about the staff and the accommodations at the Wharf House. We will definitely be back. I would like to come for a visit and just sit by the water looking for starfish :)

Too amazing for words!

To try and put a place and experience like The Wharf House into words is challenging because no matter how eloquent my words are they will fall short in capturing the beauty, character and energy of The Wharf House. My family was lucky enough to spend ten days over Christmas and New Years at the Wharf House and it was nothing short of spectacular. Our group ranged from 5 to 69 years old, we have all travelled various places throughout North America, the Caribbean and Europe and never encountered the level of warm hospitality and relaxation we found here. The grounds and house are full of history and charm, with the property originally built in the 18th century. Massive trees, vines and flowers that you can only find in a place that has been left untouched provide shade and beauty. The house is filled with beautiful works of art and I highly recommend a trip to the owners art gallery in town where you can pick up a piece of your own. Everything is beautiful but not ostentatious or uncomfortable. The massive dock was our favourite place to look out at the water while listening to music and playing board games or eating a wonderful meal. The longer you are here the more you will discover, there are personal touches everywhere. There is a wonderful amount of wildlife both on land and in the sea. We had the pleasure of seeing urchins, sea cucumbers, fish, star fish and three octopus while snorkelling or from the dock. Small lizards and birds have made their homes here and are seen regularly. The Wharf house is a home not a sterile, impersonal resort, and it is apparent in the most splendid way that you are in Jamaica! The staff Pinky (cook), Alicia (housekeeper), LeRoy (groundskeeper) and Russell (security) are all amazing! We had the most amazing Jamaican food the entire trip and not once did it disappoint. You must have the Pinky sauce on your chicken! There is no need to leave the property but on the few excursions we did, the first thing our daughter had to do upon our return was tell them about her adventure. The owners Stephan and Nicky are outstanding hosts whom went above and beyond our expectations. Everything they organized for us from massages to drivers was excellent. I highly recommend using the taxi service they suggest. They are not only great hosts but they are incredibly interesting people and we feel like our trip was enhanced simply by having the opportunity to get to know them. Thank you so much it will forever be in our hearts.

STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE......LOOKS CAN BE DECIEVING

Upon arrival to this place we were greeted by a friendly staff. Over the passing days, it was very clear to me that everyone was trying to milk us for all of our cash no questions asked. From first sight the property is nice. Upon a closer look this property clearly needs more work than the eye can first see. If you like camping this establishment is perfect for you. If you are expecting a nice villa or guest home experience this is NOT the location for you. There is no mosquito netting so you will get eaten alive even if the windows and doors are closed. Lizards came into the room and roaches and the staff just seemed as if oh we know it is normal. By the end of our stay I had had it with this place. I was literally being charged for every single thing that honestly should have been included into the price. The beach is littered with trash and shards of glass, there are holes in the base boards of the floors and mildew in the showers. If you are seeking a cook....Do not bother it is a frustrating situation to put yourself through over vacation. This was a below standard B&B that should not be open. I have high standards and I expected better. I cut my stay short and moved into a resort on the last day so that I could relax. This is what I should have done in the beginning. They owed me $160.00 and I had paid in advance the entire balance minus about 370.00. when I decided to depart early due to the sub par living quarters. I was told that the owner Nicola does not do refunds. In there policy online the deposit is mentioned as no refund. It says nothing about any monies collected after the fact so basically I was robbed. I will never suggest this sub pat establishment to anyone else and I can only pray that you all overlook the good comments posted because at this time I think those comments were from family and friends of the owner. No one with standards would ever be this gracious. I could go on for weeks about a number of other things however if the owner is reading this I will say. The money that you stole from me in the amount of $160.00 you will need to give that money to your staff as a tip. I will not give anymore of my hard earned money towards your setablishment. It is not your staff's fault that you have ripped me off so they should not suffer. Hopefully you will do right by them verses the way you deal with your customers.

Beautiful location

Overall the Wharf House is awesome. The property is gorgeous right on the water and with a private beach, deck and peer. There is lush gardens and nice pool. While there we got massages with (Karen and another woman) we loved them!!! Pinky and the crew made a lovely meal and took care of us following covid restriction while making us feel comfortable. My only negative was due to the cloudy, humidity and rain during the time we were in Jamaica the bedding was somewhat damp. When it was really cool in the room it was not too comfortable in the bed. Other than that (Im sure it was due to the previous wet weather) I thoroughly enjoyed my stay!!!

The beautiful Wharf House

We had an amazing 5 days at the Wharf House with our family. The house was spacious and beautiful, the gardens lovely and the waterfront was perfect for our early morning paddle board rides. Stefan was a wonderful host and attended to our every need, and the staff were fun and made us feel very welcome. The Wharf House Exceeded Our Expectations!

What a truly wonderful experience! The Wharf House is a magical serene spot. This quietly elegant home boasts beautiful and comfortable interiors. Vintage and authentic, feels like Ralph Lauren with a touch of John Robshaw. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcome, cared for, loved and safe. The staff's attention to detail from the delicious morning coffee; Miss Pinkey's heartfelt delicious food, the cleanliness of the house and the care of the grounds were so noticed and appreciated. Finally, Nikki and Stephan are gracious hosts and were so helpful with arrangements for a delightful driver and suggestions for fun Jamaican adventures. A truly memorable vacation, we feel lucky and grateful . Thank you, Peggy, Todd, Henry and Sheila

The Wharf House was magical

We just returned from a week long stay at the Wharf House. It was a magical time. The kids and adults played on the kayak and paddle board out on the bay every morning. The nature was so gorgeous from the beautiful sunrises and sunsets, to the starfish and other creatures around the cove. We loved being able to play on the beach one minute and swim in the pool another. The kids also enjoyed hours of ping pong in the evenings. The furnishings were old colonial and beautiful. The beds were so comfortable. The accommodations were perfect. And last but certainly not least was the awesome staff at the Wharf House. Nicky and Stephan touched base with us prior to coming to help answer all our questions. The cook, Pinky, had delicious salt fish fritters waiting for us when we arrived and the food the trip was wonderful. She worked with on a delicious menu. Britannia and Elisha were so sweet and helpful. Every night they turned down beds and everyday they helped me pick up after my messy teens. Leroy was a great friend to my boys and helped them the kayak and outdoor items. And Russell also kept a close watch on the estate in the evenings. Stephan stopped by and graced us with his fun company as he checked on our stay, took our grocery and bar orders, and helped us to arrange some of our many excursions. Verol the driver made us feel very safe and recommended great places to go. Mayfield Falls is a must!! The owners and staff all felt like family after our stay. The Wharf House was magical. So much so that our eldest son proprosed to his future wife on the deck over the water. As soon as Stephan heard about the proposal, he showed up with a couple bottles of bubbly for us to celebrate with. We all made life time memories and hope to go back soon!!! Nathan and Sierra

By far the best vacation of my life! Hyperbole? Perhaps, but it can’t be overstated; truly awesome!

We loved every aspect of our vacation at the Wharf house. We split a week’s rental with three other couples and paid for Wharf’s wonderful cook, Pinky, to provide all of our meals. It was amazing! Great food, dining on the wharf with friends, snorkeling and swimming right off the dock, and just chilling. We will never go to another all-inclusive tourist trap again. Why would we, when we could instead eat authentic Jmaician food and nourish our souls in our own private paradise? The host, Stefan, went well above and beyond in order to make sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. One of the best parts of staying at the Wharf House is that you can see the wonderful jobs that Stefan and Nikki have created and the way tha their employees are treated like family. We already miss our Jamaican friends, and are planning our return trip!

Why they chose this property

The Wharf House has been in my family for several generations. For much of that time, it was one of my family’s homes in Jamaica…a place where we lived, and laughed, and enjoyed seeing our sons and daughters, grand-sons and grand-daughters & nieces and nephews play in the gardens, swim in the sea & the pool, and - quite generally (and far too quickly) - grow into adulthood.

But The Wharf House - at various times during my family’s ownership - has also been: a famous restaurant, operated as “Norma’s on the Wharf” by renowned Jamaican chef Norma Shirley; a luxury villa, available for short-term vacation rental; and a long-term rental property for some of our Jamaican friends and acquaintances.

Today, The Wharf House has been re-conceived as an intimate villa property…a home away from home…your home in our home. We - Nicky & my husband Stefan - live on property. Not all the time, but as much & as often as we can. If we are not on property during your stay, our lovely staff will be delighted to look after you.

The Wharf House is - believe us - a truly magical place, and we look forward to sharing our home with you.

Nicky & Stefan
