About this property

Betsea Cottage with Island Views - Welcome to your Wild, Windy Harbour Hideaway.

Nestled on the hillside, Betsea Cottage has sweeping island and ocean views from the verandah, kitchen, lounge and two of the bedrooms. It is a five -minute stroll to the boat ramp and beach. Perfect holiday spot for kids.

The kitchen overlooks the ocean and is well equipped for just boiling an egg or cooking up a storm! The living room has comfy seating and 43cm HD TV, a bookshelf and board games.

Betsea Cottage is a bit more upmarket from a simple shack – with two bathrooms and three toilets! The third toilet is located downstairs near the washing machine in the laundry. Key to laundry available on request. The main bedroom and bunk room even have ocean views! There is a solar power system, instantaneous gas hot water system, gas stove and heater. It is very important to be conscious of the solar power and minimise the use of power hungry devices. Heating appliances such as hairdryers, straighteners, irons and toasters must not be used as they drain too much energy in a short amount of time. All linen (except beach towels) is supplied. This includes sheets, pillowcases, blankets, towels, bathmats, face-washers, tea-towels and handtowels. Bring a Telstra phone or SIM card as only a Telstra tower here.
There are fabulous beach walks with dramatic coastal scenery where you can walk along a marked trail to Cathedral Rock and feel the white sand between your toes as you return along the beach.
The swimming is very safe and the rocks are fun to climb on. The kids will love the freedom to explore, build sandcastles, fly a kite, kick the footy and play in the well-equipped playground.
It is about an hour away to the majestic Karri forests and wineries of Northcliffe, Pemberton and Manjimup so makes for a perfect base for day trips to popular tourist destinations.
The caretaker, by the caravan park, sells only a few basic items so it is best to bring all your toiletries, food and groceries with you. The closest stores are Northcliffe (27km) and Pemberton (50km)

The weather can be quite cool and maybe windy so bring clothes for all seasons. If it is raining and cold outside you can marvel at the waves breaking over Sandy Island and when it is fine you can enjoy the bush and beach walks. Head over to Salmon Beach for good fishing, too. Also, you can launch your boat and head out to enjoy some serious fishing.

Windy Harbour, is in the D Entrecasteaux National Park and is your perfect place to enjoy some peace and tranquillity. From the casual comfort of indoors you can marvel at the magnificent Great Southern Ocean as waves crash around nearby Sandy Island. It makes you feel a part of nature.

How to find Betsea Cottage: Drive 27km south from Northcliffe down towards Windy Harbour. Continue to left on the sealed road and veer right to keep the campground and the playground on your right. Go straight through at the sign saying "Local Traffic Only. No Through Road". Turn left at the driveway after the second house with a pink door on the left. There is a big Norfolk Island pine tree at the driveway. Betsea Cottage is the big cream house on the right with a ramp leading up to the balcony. You can park anywhere to the right of the ramp. The key to the house is in a locked box and the location and code will be texted to you before your arrival.

Second stay
We are regular visitors to Windy Harbour with our family visiting at least once a year over the last 12 years and one of us with a history of visiting for 30 years. This is our second stay at this property. The property is great with lots of space and everything you would need for your family or accompanying friends. We were very much looking forward to our annual break but the experience was dampened by a neighbour who openly resents having the property rented out to holiday makers and let us know about it with a disrespectful attitude and a complaint to the owner. This neighbour also has a dog that is either off-leash or on a very long leash and she doesn’t have much control - so something to keep in mind if you have young children or children that are frightened of dogs. All said, property is what is described. We felt let down only by the neighbour who really put a negative and uncomfortable feel to our time there. Which is very sad for the owners of the property as this isn’t something they can really control. Would love to say we will be back, but might need to find out if the neighbour will also be there during our stay before we decide.

Lovely location and good communication with owner prior to check in. Only disappointing thing was the large number of mice in the house.

Peaceful, Connected and Excellent Location
Very peaceful location, good views to the ocean and a short walk to the sandy beaches and spectacular walking trails. Well appointed home with thoughtful additions such as percolators and plenty of towel racks. Excellent TV reception and strong Telstra 4G signal if streaming is your thing.

Windy Harbour not so windy.
Wonderful location with sea views from the veranda. Rooms were a good size with comfortable beds. Property is very well equipped. An older style, beach house with all accommodation and living areas upstairs, currently being repaired/renovated. The weather was very warm with a few days with very light breezes. House was quite humid inside on these days.

Nice beach shack for a three day getaway
A good place to unwind for a few days. The cottage itself is a bit dated but is well stocked and has plenty of amenities, especially considering it’s off grid. The fridge was a good size and the gas stove worked well. The beds were comfortable and towels and linens provided were good quality. Overall nice place to stay and would definitely recommend to others.

Great view and great fishing
Mary’s house has all the items that you would need for your beach or fishing holiday. The kitchen was fully equipped, we did lots of cooking, including delicious fish we’d caught. It seemed a little expensive compared to other properties but does have a lovely ocean view and can sleep 8. I wish we could have stayed longer, 2 nights wasn’t enough. Make sure you get out to the island, beautifsl to explore and plenty of photo opportunities

Great family cottage!
Loved this little Windy harbour cottage. Well equipped with plenty of blankets, kids toys, books and games and anything you could need in the kitchen! Great location close to the beach and park, we could actually hear the kids from the cottage. Will definitely be back.

Windy Harbour Beach Shack
Windy Harbour is a great spot but this really is just a beach shack, albeit with two bathrooms. We had two families staying over Easter weekend and it was cramped. The bed linens are old, the towels are old (and in some cases more than threadbare) and the furniture is old. If this was your family beach shack it would be a great place but what we paid for three nights left us feeling that it was very overpriced and not good value. That said, the owner was lovely to deal with and answered all queries promptly.
