Don't tell anyone, but this place in Kennett River is an absolute cracker. Great location, beautiful beach and brilliant house.
Had a great weekend away.
Compliments to the managers!
When our two boys were young we would book places in Wye and Kennett River with friends and their kids for holidays. We had some very memorable times. So when our 25 year old son suggested we book a place and spend some time early in the New Year together, we jumped at the request. The boys brought their girlfriends along and the six of us stayed in this very homely retreat in what we know as a very unique little coastal haven. We felt like we were really being invited into a home with everything you really need. Even the trust of leaving an acoustic guitar leaning against a bookshelf for visitors to use. I didn't take mine but had a little play here and there. The Kangaroos were out, we had a special encounter with one particular koala bear and we even though of ourselves as bird watchers as the many different species, from kookaburras, to Parrots, to lorikeets, to Cockatoos and the smaller varieties perched on the balcony rail or flew over head and gathered in the trees. We didn't need a fire as the air temp was consistently warm during the day and not too fresh at night in early January. We surfed, swam, read books, had great conversation listening to music and having a drink on the balcony. I could go on...As we left, my wife said to me; 'my cup is full honey!' The perfect end to an emotional five days in a very Australian coastal retreat with our very precious boys and their beautiful girlfriends!
We have been coming to Barcola for the last few years now and it has always been a sensational place to stay. Relaxing, close to the beach, with everything you need. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a great place get away from the hustle and bustle!
Can't wait to get back.
We love the peace and tranquillity of Kennett River and came back for our second stay.
The house was clean and welcoming and we loved the addition of the dishwasher.
Perfect weather, lots of wildlife and feeling relaxed after our Barcola experience.
Thank you!
A beautiful place with everything you need for a break, complete with barista style coffee machine, games, stereo. Very clean and well stocked. Close beach, walking tracks and the forest. Enjoyed the ocean and the Birdlife.
Super-cozy beds, loved it.
As soon as we arrived at Barcola we felt relaxed. The sound of the ocean and wild life was beautiful. There is a short walk to the beach and café/general store. The house had everything we needed and the kids loved the table tennis. Going to sleep with the sound of the ocean and waking up to the sound of kookaburras! We had a visit from kangaroos. We walked the beautiful track along kennet river and drove to Apollo bay, which is a beautiful half hour drive. When the weather changed to chilly, we sat back and relaxed in front of the fire place and played board games. The beds were super comfy so was the couch! We would definitely return!
This is our second visit to Barcola. Loved the addition of the table tennis. And it reminded us how much wild life there is to enjoy on top of the great beach only 300 metres away.
We look forward to coming back again.
Thanks.
Barcola was a very well equipped house close to the beach. It was well stocked and very comfortable.Walk down to the beach .We had a great week enjoying the surf and the koalas in the gums around the property.Would not hesitate to stay here again!!
Cristina and Jonathan's hideaway at Kennett River is the most sublime find. It is so close to the beach - much closer than the 'filtered views' of the ocean suggest. The magnificent gum trees in front of the property give absolute privacy from the tourist mini-buses below which stop to look at the many koalas - you can't hear or see them, so it is as if they aren't there at all. Kennett has a lovely beach, and I love that it is still a sleepy town - even Wye felt a bit too busy to us this time around! The house itself is perfect - pristinely clean, and with everything you could possibly imagine to have a wonderful stay - I don't think I've ever stayed at a better stocked holiday house. It is supremely comfortable and the layout is excellent - someone can sleep in while others make noise in the living room - for a compact house it easily accommodated our two families (total of eight guests), I have no complaints, only praise for this house and J and C were very accommodating and answered any question I had promptly. We wish we were still there!
When we woke to the sound of the ocean and looked out the window to see a mob of kangaroos grazing nearby, we new that this place was something special. It was great to be able to sit out on the deck in the sun on the comfy chairs and watch a koala climb up the gum tree out front . We made ourselves a cocktail, in one of the plentiful glasses that were supplied, and stoked up the fire when it cooled down. The heat from the fire kept the house warm all night and the double bed we slept in (in the third bedroom) was comfortable. There are heaps of plates and cooking dishes if you choose to do what we did and eat in (also with a good pantry of staples). The nearby shop has all the essentials and if you want some delicious sour dough bread head around to Wye River (only 5 mins away). The beach is only a 2min walk and has amazing views of the coast. We left feeling relaxed and looking forward to coming back soon for more serenity. Thanks for the prompt communication and having us!

Very nice and homey
Stayed here for two nights with four friends for the Great Ocean Road Half Marathon. It was a very nice stay - the host was very prompt and detailed with his responses and we had no issues getting in. Place is well-stocked and very clean. You can see the ocean from the balcony which is beautiful for a morning sunrise and it is not too far from places like Lorne and Apollo Bay.
