Near Heaven
This lovely home reminded us of growing up in the mountains. Check in was seamless, everything was clean and well appointed, and the owners are delightful! We will be visiting here again.

My wife and I are providing logistical support to our daughter and a friend who are thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail. We spent five nights here while they transited the Grayson Highlands area. They joined us at the farm for two off-trail days to shower, do laundry, eat real food, and just enjoy the surroundings. It was perfect for our needs. Shout out to Roger, host Tina's dad.
Me and my fiance stayed here over Labor Day weekend 2023. They house is a pretty good value for the price . The issues I had with the property is based on the info provided you will assume you have the area surrounding the house to yourself. This is completely false the driveway is shared by 4 houses one which is probably less than 50 feet away. Peace and quiet was available most of the time but Saturday it was not all terrain vehicles and tractors drove up and down the drive way for about 2 hours causing my dog to go completely nuts. Overall the property is nice and in a good location but if your looking for seclusion this is not it.
It was quiet. Was cozy and felt like home. Especially after a full day. Rooms were big. Sad that the ramp for easy assess was removed. But only a few steps to navigate. Sketchy when trying to walk down while icy. Garage perfect for car. Not so much for pickup.
My wife and I spent a wonderful week on the farm in September. The house was very clean and was exactly what we were hoping for. It was very peaceful and was what we needed to relax and enjoy life. The internet was very good and we were able to watch all of our favorites through Roku. We are hoping to visit again next year.
My sister and I stayed for a weekend at Kate's Memories with a plan to visit Grayson Highlands State Park to hike and see the ponies. The cottage is simple, but clean and equipped with everything we needed. As mentioned in a prior review, this is a rural setting and the grocery store isn't right around the corner--so we packed food, beverages and snacks. We arrived during daylight, which I recommend--easier to see road signs etc. We walked the lane, visited the resident horse and donkey and made a lovely bonfire Friday night--us and smores and the bullfrogs in the pond. Saturday we went to Grayson Highlands and spent a full day there. We were quite tired by the time we got home so we cooked dinner in and enjoyed another bonfire. So peaceful and relaxing. We departed on Sunday--having made some great memories. If you are looking for a quiet getaway--close to great parks, trails and the New River--check out Kate's Memories! Tina, the owner responded quickly when we had a question and was friendly and helpful.
Thanks for a great stay!
We enjoyed the farm house with its view of the rolling hills and the barns and pond. Seeing deer on the property,, in addition to the horse and burro was nice. The proximity to Grayson Highland State Park was great. We checked out Lansing and West Jefferson too.
The property was very nice. It sits on beautiful land and we enjoyed seeing the donkey, horse, and cows roaming. On our second night the clouds cleared and we were treated to fireflies and stars. The house was very clean and had everything needed, though it's best to go prepared food-wise as the nearest full grocery is about 30 minutes away. We spent our days in Grayson Highlands, and the property was excellently located for going to the park. The shower was great, too - much appreciated after hiking all day!
What a beautiful place in the mountains of Ashe County! We were able to relax by strolling around the pond and the farm. The huge walk in shower was great! Thanks for such a great place!!
My girlfriend and I enjoyed our stay a great deal. The property had a very bungalow-esque feel to it. Each room was comfortable and the amenities that were provided were more than adequate.
It was the perfect getaway to literally get away from it all. The property is absolutely beautiful. The drive to get to the property is a little tricky at night, but once you find it, it's a hidden gem! It's secluded, but yet close to various activities. We would definitely stay again!!
We love Kate’s Memories. The family treats us like family! This place is so special. Wish we could go there more often.

About the host

I was fortunate enough to grow up in this home and on this farm. When I grew up in this home, my family was running a dairy farm. My Dad and Grandpa ran the farm most of my childhood. I enjoyed helping raise baby calves in the bottle and making them pets, and exploring the 83 acres.
Why they chose this property
This is a family owned farm and we would just like to share it with others.
What makes this property unique
We are located in such a unique area where you can enjoy so many things. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation or an adventure, you can find it with us. You can take walks on the 83acre farm where you might be visited by a horse named Comet, or a donkey named Buster and a lot of cows that we haven't named. But you will enjoy the beauty of a farm.
