About this property

Rustic Waterfront Cabin on Pristine Tunk Lake!

Our rustic Maine Cabin is close enough to Bar Harbor & Acadia for shopping, brewery tours, restaurants, & night life, but far enough from the bustle to get the real Maine experience - relax on the dock with your favorite drink & listen to the loons calling across the lake!

Tunk Lake boasts some of the best fishing for lake trout (togue) & other fish in the state! Hiking trails abound off the Blackwoods Scenic Byway & in Donnell Public Reserve Lands, including Black, Schoodic, & Tunk Mountains.

The cabin is one main room with a loft, with an updated bathroom attached. It has running hot water and electricity. The kitchen includes a gas stove, fridge, coffee maker, and pots, pans, plates, cups and utensils. We also have blankets and bedding, pillows, towels, shampoo/conditioner.

We also have a wood fired hot tub, perfect for 2-3 people. Please note that this is a more rustic type of hot tub, and it can take some time to heat the water this traditional way (usually 22 degrees per hour).

To enjoy the lake there are five kayaks you can use. Stay cozy and enjoy s'mores on the campfire outside!

Our cabin is perfect for a couple, but with over an acre there are also many good sites for tents. We keep a tent at the cabin for your use, but feel free to bring your own as well!

I grew up camping with my dad in Maine, and moved up to Bar Harbor from Massachusetts' north shore to work at a research lab. I met Sophia there, and both of us spent nearly all of our summer weekends kayaking, camping, and exploring lakes and Maine's coast. We always wanted to buy a cabin, but couldn't find the perfect one, until suddenly this one came up! I sent an email immediately, and as soon as we met with them, we found out that one of the previous owners was born in the small town in England Sophia grew up in, and that they also had visited the small country my dad is from nearly every winter for the past decade and a half. We just knew this was the cabin for us!

Why they chose this property

Tunk Lake is nestled in several thousand acres of protected state reserve land, leaving only a handful of cabins with access to its shore. We got incredibly lucky to have a little piece of one of Maine's clearest and most untouched lakes! We loved the feel of being entirely off grid in the wild, yet so close to Bar Harbor and Maine's scenic coast.

What makes this property unique

The dock is one of our favorite spots to relax, since it's wide and warms up perfectly with the sun!
