About this property

Mabi - Glamping in a Dome, with spectacular views and beautiful bush walks.

Mabi is a spacious 4.5 metre Dome. It’s interior is styled in rich earthy textures and tones inspired by the surrounding landscape. A queen sized bed, a small wood heater to keep off the chill, and an eating nook in front of a picture window.

There is a comfortable camp kitchen which we have developed for tourists to retreat to, to cook their meals in case of bad weather. There is a living area with a fireplace, a sink/food prep/gas hob area and a dining area. These seperate areas allow for different groups of tourists to enjoy the camp kitchen at the same time. The camp kitchen offers another possibility for group gatherings with it’s generous deck, bar and outdoor sitting area. There is a gas BBQ on the deck for use if the camp fires at the tent sites become too wet.

There are two showers. Both a glass fronted and are perched on the very edge of the hill so you get the feeling that there is very little between you and the mountains! It is truly a spectacular experience. There is a solar heater on top of the showers which allows for hot showers. We do ask however that you are careful to restrict your usage for the shower to 2 -3 minute showers.

There is a toilet block at the back of Tanjenong camp. The two toilets are composting toilets. Be careful to read the instructions when using the toilet. They operate very like normal toilets but some instructions are necessary.
Bushwalks
You will be able to connect with one of the favourite Tanjenong walks, the Abercrombie River walk. This walk takes you through a diverse and pristine Eucalypt landscape to the Abercrombie river. The river walk offers a possibility of spotting a diverse range of wild animals, kangaroo, wallaby, platypus, echidna, trout, wombat, goanna, goats and deer . The walk itself is roughly an hour and half to two hours long. It is steep in parts so it is important to wear good walking shoes.

Beautiful getaway with mountain views
Rob & Deb’s property was exactly what I was looking for. A relaxing little place to unwind and spend some quality time with my mum. The place was beautiful, clean, and it had everything we needed. It sadly rain but the communal area made it easy. Rob was a nice host and the communication was great. He came to the site with his cute dog to say hello. Overall a very lovely experience!

Relax and Reset
Our stay at Mabi Dome was incredible. The views from all over the property were just breathtaking! There is also an abundance of wildlife, the air is clean and crisp and the sounds are so peaceful. It was also lovely to have Beannie (the dog) visit us on occassion. The dome is set up beautifully and is very clean. We were able to keep warm with the small fire inside and the outdoor fire pit! The outside kitchen is well equipped, as is the shared communal kitchen. Access to power and warm water was also great! The shower is unique and very nice, and the bathroom is clean and well-kept. Access and finding the property was easy! Although there is no reception once you leave Golbourn, so have the map/directions pre-saved. However the property is well signposted and easy to spot during the day! The small town, Taralga had a good general store and good food options! We had a great breakfast at Grand Ettie. This stay was beautiful and calm, a great little getaway and the chance to reconnect with nature and simple living. Communicating with Rob and Deb was very easy. They were prompt and very pro-active! Thank you so much for an incredible stay!

About the host

Hosted by Rob & Deb Kane

Host profile image
Rob and Deb have both had backgrounds in the film and television industry. We were drawn to the rugged beauty of the bush 2006. Tanjenong belonged to my parents who arrived here from Kenya in 1971. They were drawn to Tanjenong because it reminded them of the rugged wildness of the African landscape. We have a strong interest in creating sustainable, environmentally friendly and beautiful spaces so that all our visitors can sink into this wild landscape the same way we did.
The Mabi Dome has been constructed of hand made aircrete which are incredibly light, offering excellent insulative value and strength. The blocks resemble the inside of an Aero Chocolate bar, except using cement instead of chocolate.
The unusual spherical dome shape and arches used in the construction of the dome, give the structure strength and a pleasing visual dynamic.

Enjoy!
Deb and Rob Kane
