French Island is Victoria’s best kept secret, with lots of koalas, echidnas, birds, and wildflowers.
Our cottage offers sustainable luxury - two comfy queen-bed rooms, each has a private bathroom, sharing a lounge/kitchen with a cosy fire. It’s a great place to getaway… from everything. Perfect for couples or bring the kids for an adventure.
It’s a short walk to 5 kms of deserted beach and the national park, hang out round the fire-pit, enjoy our DVD/games library... or do nothing much at all. Order meal from Mylene's special menu… or a cocktail. She is a great host.
Our property is 75 acres of diverse ecologies, which we are enthusiastically rejuvenating to help the environment. There’s a lot to see and like.
We recommend bringing your car. Book SOFI barge (departs Corinella) on 0428 880 729, and tell them you are staying with us to get visitor rates. Or you can bring bikes over on Westernport Ferries (departs Stony Point).

Clean and comfortable, compact cottage. Was suitable for myself, my husband and 5 year old daughter. The kids books and toys were appreciated as well as some treats for our daughter which were were a nice touch. She also loved getting up close to the chickens, ducks and peacock as well as a visiting koala. Mylene and Alan were very helpful and friendly hosts. Perfect for a remote escape but be sure to come prepared with all supplies.
Had a lovely quiet week on French Is at the cottage. Really felt far away from everything yet only a short distance to Melbourne. We had klmxs of beach to ourselves. Only minor negative the tide was out during the day which makes it hard to get a swim in but all on all relaxing away from the crowds for a change.
My family and I loved staying here. The property is pretty, the location is remote but not isolated. and the hosts are relaxed and accommodating. The cottage is well set up and we loved the freshly-laid eggs, home-made marmalade and access to the old bus for our teenagers. Even our dog was made welcome, and that meant a lot to us. Thanks Alan and Mylene for providing a comfortable, hassle-free base for our bushwalking, water-splashing holiday.

About the host
Hosted by Mylene Pentland
Mylene has extensive experience in the hospitality industry, plus she's a celebrant. Alan was an architect who became a comedy writer. He drives the tractor. After raising our family we moved to the bush. We love the peace and quiet of our home, and love to share this with our guests.
Why they chose this property
Our 30 hectare (75 acre) property has a pine forest, eucalypt woodlands, heath lands, grasslands, large melaleuca copses, resident koalas, echidnas, and an abundance of birdlife. We are surrounded by national park, and close to the beach.
What makes this property unique
French Island Victoria's best kept secret, totally off-the-grid. While geographically quite close to Melbourne, it feels like a million miles away. We have dirt roads, empty beaches, just one shop, a large national park, less than 120 residents and lots of peace and quiet
