About this property

Off Grid Secluded Cabin In Whitepine Creek Valley

***Thanks for your interest in our cabin. We're not currently taking reservations.***

We found this amazing property in 2012, then built & moved into our permanent home near the cabin (~450 ft up the road) in the summer 2015.

The comfortable 1100 ft2 cabin is situated on 20 acres surrounded by National Forest on 3 sides with beautiful Whitepine Creek flowing right through it. It’s on a well-maintained National Forest Service dirt road and is the last structure before millions of acres of the Kootenai & Coeur d’Alene national forests. The proximity to national forest affords us regular sightings of white-tailed deer, moose, elk, wild turkeys, coyote, hummingbirds and many other flora and fauna of the region. All you have to do is look up to see the Milky Way on clear nights!

The cabin has one bedroom with a comfortable queen-sized bed, two full-sized beds in the open loft upstairs, and one bathroom (shower, no tub). The kitchen is stocked with dishes, glasses, cookware, utensils, toaster, coffeemaker, microwave, refrigerator/freezer and gas range/oven. We can also provide basic spices and cooking ingredients for your convenience. Admittedly it’s a little small but I’ve made an entire Thanksgiving dinner in it!

There’s a 42” LED flat screen TV and Blu Ray/DVD player for watching movies or listening to music (no live TV). We have a library of DVDs, CDs and books for your entertainment (Redbox location in Thompson Falls). A compact stacked washer/dryer, detergent and fabric softener are available for use as well. A window A/C unit is provided in summer months.

The large patio boasts peaceful and relaxing views of the valley with patio chairs, umbrella, and BBQ. The backyard has a sturdy game hook and small outdoor fire ring (complimentary firewood provided).

We are off grid but you wouldn’t know it with our solar system and backup generators. Fiber internet that supports WiFi calls but no cell service – we don’t consider that a bad thing!

We are approximately 20 minutes from the village of Trout Creek. There is a small grocery store, hardware store, gas stations, motels, and restaurants/bars. The town of Thompson Falls is a little further away (~25-30 mins) in the opposite direction on Highway 200 but offers a larger grocery store, state liquor store, gas stations, and more bar/restaurant options.

The Clark Fork Valley is truly incredible and a beautiful drive in from every direction. The Spokane airport is ~3 hours drive to our cabin through Coeur d’Alene, Sandpoint, ID and Lake Pend Oreille from the west. Missoula is ~2 hours drive through the valley from the east, and Kalispell is ~2.5 hours from the northeast around the amazing Flathead Lake.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions. We hope to see you soon!

Our favorite place to stay
This was either our 3rd or 4th time coming back to this cabin. It is the most wonderful spot to get away. It is quiet and rich with nature. Beautiful trees of all kinds, rich forest, hills and the beautiful spring fed creek - the clearest and coldest water ever. We love to go paddle boarding when we stay here - lots of opportunities for water sports all up and down the main road. We also go for walks and bike rides up the road into the Forest Service area. My husband also went on hikes way up at the end of the road that he loved. The cabin itself is so comfortable and perfectly appointed. We play puzzles, eat meals, sit on the back porch enjoying the view, watch movies and sleep so well. You can also have a fire, make s'mores and then look at the most beautiful starry night sky. Heaven.

Perfect!!!
My husband and I traveled 1,750 miles to get to this peaceful secluded cabin for our 25th Anniversary. It was well worth every mile !! The cabin was immaculate and had everything you needed. It was that special getaway that we were looking for. It was so peaceful and secluded and took you away from everyday life where you can just enjoy each other’s company and not worry about time or day . We loved the scenery looking out off the back porch as Elk and hummingbirds would come by to visit :). Mary was a great hostess and not letting you go without anything you might need. It was the PERFECT getaway highly recommend!!

Just short of heaven!
My husband and I along with our dog Tilly had a wonderful, relaxing stay at the Whitepine Creek cabin. The cabin was roomy and comfortable with all the amenities we could ask for. The grounds were absolutely amazing, lush and green and a beautiful playground for Tilly. We spent all our waking hours on the deck and in the yard, enjoying the views and sounds of the crystal clear creek running nearby. One of our daily tasks was counting all the wildlife that went through; 14 deer in 1 day! We also saw turkey and a bull moose during our stay. Our hosts Mary and Clay were great, giving us great advice about things to do when we ventured out. Very friendly while respecting our privacy. We're all looking forward to our next visit!

The best VRBO we have stayed in.
The chairs on the porch look out at a fire pit, gardens, lush underbrush with a peak of the creek, accompanied with the soothing sound of rushing water. It’s very private, being the last house before the National Forest. Roads in every direction led to breathtaking mountain roads , rivers or lakes. The cabin was extremely clean with every convenience and the hosts were exceptional. We easily could have stayed a week or longer. We hope to return.

A Little Slice of Heaven
This was our 2nd stay at this mountain cabin and we were there longer this summer. We loved it! The cabin is beautiful, well taken care of and stocked with what we needed. The surrounding hills are amazing, covered with a forest of green. Our hosts were most gracious, thoughtful, and more than ready to accommodate us. We treasure our time in this Montana get-away!

Montana paradise!
If I could give more than five stars, I would. This beautiful, off-grid solar cabin in its serene mountain setting is by far the nicest vacation spot my family has ever enjoyed. We found solitude, connection, and a much-needed break from the tensions of city living. No cell coverage (thank goodness!), but enough wifi bandwidth for what little texting we needed to do. Thanks to our gracious hosts, we had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The cabin and grounds are immaculately maintained; the furnishings, kitchenware, and linens are all top quality; and the crisp well water is to die for. We spent a lot of our time out on the deck, enjoying the spectacular view and sounds of the creek, and when it got a bit toasty in the afternoons, the ceiling fans or window A/C made the house quite comfortable. We used the charcoal grill most nights we were there, but there was also a gas grill on the deck and a cozy firepit in the yard that we chose not to fire up since the dry season of the forest was just starting. My sons and I agree that the best part of our Montana experience, by far, was meeting Mary & Clay. What they have accomplished with off-grid living is truly remarkable and inspiring. We will definitely be back. Cheers!

Perfect Montana Getaway!!
Everything about this property was perfect for us. It was breathtakingly beautiful, quiet, and relaxing. Montana is such a fun place to visit this time of year. The cabin was nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. The property around the cabin was very well maintained. We especially loved that it was tucked away a small distance from the main highway, and we enjoyed the creek running through the property. Mary and Clay are excellent hosts, kind and friendly. We hope to be able to visit again sometime in the near future.

White Pine paradise
We spent 8 peaceful nights with our gracious host at this tucked away cabin. The cabin was perfectly accommodated, with all the needed creature comforts of home. The owners were respectful, of our privacy, and quick to respond with any inquiries of the surrounding area. I would highly recommend this property for many different occasions, from being base camp for all sorts of outdoor excursions, to just a peaceful vacation. Thank you Robert F. VT.

Simply stunning off-grid location with majestic views all around...
Words or photos really do not do this property justice. I will say if you are considering booking then just go ahead and book it - you will not regret it. Mary made sure that we had everything we needed along the way and then some. The cabin is immaculately appointed and very very clean. A wonderful selection of local guide books as well as wilderness books for the area. Home comes with a VERY detailed binder which is very helpful. We will be booking this again in the future. Happy travels all!

Nice property with creek!
This is a very nice comfortable cabin. This was a birthday trip for my son and he enjoyed every minute of it. This cabin was clean, well stocked, and had everything we needed to relax away from home. Great communication with the owners. Would definitely recommend!

Beautiful in winter too
We came back to this cabin after visiting in the summer. For a get away from life it cannot be beat - feels like the end of the road with forest all around. The creeks were running in the winter where they were dry in August - so beautiful and the sound is heavenly. Less snow than we hoped so we didn't get to ski, but we loved taking the dogs right out the door for walks. We did puzzles, played games, watched movies. A great getaway all together.

A Piece of Heaven
The property is remotely located, but well worth the drive. I enjoyed going outside and only hearing nature. The view off of the back deck is amazing and the stars at night were incredible. The cabin was just as it appeared in the pictures. It is very well maintain and meticulously clean. The kitchen had everything I needed. Mary and Clay were most gracious hosts, yet allowed for maximum privacy. I stayed for nearly two weeks and there is so much to do throughout the national forest. By far one of my best vacations ever!

The hosts were so accommodating and helpful. We would recommend this property to anyone. Our only warning.....be prepared to never want to leave this slice of heaven! A little piece of heaven
This was such a wonderful way to get away from everything during what has been a stressful time! This property, while close to town, feels like it is at the literal end of the road with forest surrounding. And what a forest! It is a gorgeous mixed growth forest and beautiful area. The cabin is perfectly appointed and had everything we needed and the deck was fantastic. While there we rented paddle boards from Crazy Moose Rentals in Thompson Falls and went out on the Clark Fork river stopping at Big Eddy's for huckleberry lemonade, we took our boat out at one of the local boat ramps, did some hiking, watched a movie, made s'mores and did a day trip up to see the Ross Creek Cedars which was spectacular. It was just what we needed and Mary and Clay were very helpful. We will definitely come back.

Perfect Solution
Wanted to say thank you to Clay and Mary for offering part of their Lifestyle through the use of the Cabin. If you are looking for a true getaway from the rat race, look no further !! No traffic, Sirens, Mass People, only sounds of nature and the smell of Pines. We did see Elk and Deer both in the back yard and a nice looking Black Bear just up the road from the Cabin..NICE !! The owners were concerned about our needs if any and corresponded with us via email. Great Cabin, Garden and the main House was astounding. This is one great getaway and if looking for seclusion, this is it !! Hopefully be back next year...Thanks again

Perfect getaway
Our stay was such a great experience. We enjoyed the beautiful landscapes and views, the cleanliness of the cabin, the peaceful area and relaxing porch. Everything inside was cozy and we had everything we needed in the kitchen. Bed in the master bedroom was more firm than I'm used to, but that's personal preference. Our hosts were so nice and easily accessible. Definitely one of our more memorable trips as a family and we hope to stay again soon!

Perfect off grid stay
The property was just as described, plenty of space for the two of us plus pet. We should have booked a longer stay because there is so much to do and explore. The area is beautiful, the cabin property itself serene with the only sounds being birds and the stream. Spectacular views. Thank you to the owners for the wonderful experience.
