This bright 3 bedroom, newly renovated cottage is the ideal location for a relaxing lakeside holiday (Space available in barn apartment too at extra cost). Located on Trout Lake, a family-friendly cottage community, this property enjoys a large deck, -in garden and private sandy beach. The living room, open-plan kitchen and dining area are great for entertaining, with the dining table seating 10. The modern kitchen, with generous island and all new appliances, is equipped with everything needed to cook up a feast. Large windows and sliding doors lead on to the back deck where you will find patio furniture and a gas barbeque and there are laundry facilities in the basement.

The living room is tastefully furnished and provides access to a sunroom, which is a perfect place to enjoy the views in warmer weather, or for the kids to play games or watch a DVD in the evening. One of the bedrooms is on the main floor, with a double bed and a large closet. It is next to the bathroom that has a shower stall.

The master bedroom, with queen sized bed, is on the upper level and it enjoys lake views from a large sliding door, which leads to it's own private balcony. The ensuite bathroom has a tub/shower combination. Across the hall is another bedroom which is perfect for the kids, with a set of bunk beds and an additional twin bed, it sleeps three. This bedroom also has it's own bathroom complete with a shower stall.

There are plenty of lawn chairs and a firepit on the beach where you can take in the sunset or the stars while listening to the water lapping on the shore. The house comes equipped with a canoe, paddles and life jackets for you to explore the lake. Beautiful Trout Lake, a great spot for a relaxing holiday. The house is bright , spacious and fully equipped with everything you could need. Lovely garden and beach area for a refreshing swim or take out one of the kayaks to explore the lake. We very much enjoyed our stay , we loved the outdoor area for family bbq’s and early morning coffee. Total relaxation! Smooth check in and responsive owners. Took a trip whale watching at Brier Island which was fantastic! Highly recommended 😊

Great vacation

Very well appointed cottage for a group. Lots of space, great wifi, excellent kitchen for cooking lots of fantastic meals! Bbq and deck area super comfortable. Lake water very clean, shallow for small kids if that’s important to you. Enclosed sunroom very relaxing. Each bedroom has its own bathroom which is super convenient! Would absolutely stay again. Grocery stores, WalMart etc about a 20 min drive away but didn’t bother us at all. Easy drive when we needed it. Super responsive host!!

A little bit of paradise

This was our second visit to Hummingbird Cove (Trout Lake). The property is well listed, clean, spacious and overlooks the most gorgeous lake. Our stay was peaceful and quiet, the perfect getaway from our busy city lives. Alex and Sam have clear, concise instructions on check-in, the garbage process, and any other questions are answered promptly. We love this rental and will be back! Bard & Erin

Lovely Home on Trout Lake

Spacious home facing north east with a great view of the lake. A short walk down to the beach which includes a small dock, deck chairs and kayaks. Large kitchen and large table made a family meal work well. The sun room is very nice but not heated. The landlord is very responsive and helpful. (Including being very understanding when when made a mistake about our check out day). We hope to come back again!

Perfect lakeside retreat

We had a great time as a family at hummingbird cove. Spacious and clean cottage with room for the whole family to enjoy the lake or cottage quiet. Trout Lake was amazing for for swimming especiallly for young kids (as it’s shallow for a good bit) was a beautiful lake to kayak and explore... ducks, loons, turtle came to visit, of course hummingbirds and saw a few eagles too.. We especiallly loved the beach area and outside deck that accommodated our big family at meal times. Really a perfect holiday!

Beautiful summer house on the lake.

Hummingbird Cove is a large, clean well-equipped home on a lovely lake in the middle of Nova Scotia. We appreciated the central A/C in what was a very warm week. We enjoyed the kayaks and the small beach with a dock and a fire ring. The sun room was everyone's favourite space, but the huge deck off the bright kitchen was a close second. It was pleasant just to sit out and watch the hummingbirds. Loads of space for our group of five. The only consideration to keep in mind has to do with the location, in that the property is about a 20 minutes drive to Middleton, the nearest town of any size. One might or might not find that desirable. Without a doubt our best vacation rental experience in Nova Scotia.

A lovely escape

This property is a lovely escape from the hustle and bustle. The cottage offers all that you would need to rest, relax, enjoy a fantastic meal and find restoration in the peace and tranquility of the lake. The hosts were incredibly responsive and wonderful to deal with, the property was sparkling clean and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. There is lots to do in the area. We enjoyed a few daytrips immensely. We would recommend Annapolis Royal, a little Frenchy's run in Wilmot and coffee in Lawrencetown. Still Fired Distillery in Lequille is also a great option. Whatever you choose, you will enjoy it!!!

Excellent Thanksgiving

After several months of upset due to covid restrictions it was a wonderful respite from the world to be at hummingbird cove. The morning sunrises and the glorious star studded skies at night assured us that life would continue on. We had campfires at night which included hotdogs and marshmallows!!! It was too chilly to use the sunroom but it looked lovely and if we return and it was warmer it would be a favourite hang out for the grandchildren and adults!!, This is very well equipped....a lot of what I brought I did not need as it was here.....Very well equipped!!! Thank You. Also the long table enabled us all to sit together at this very special time. Thank you so much Alex and Sam for sharing with us your wonderful home....regards

Lakeside cottage tranquility

Thank you for a wonderful stay at your peaceful, beautiful lakeside cottage. Our family really enjoyed the splendidly equipped house, large sunroom and upstairs balcony with stunning lake views. We really appreciated all the puzzles and games plus videos to watch in additional to an amazing kitchen with everything we could wish for. Paddling around with the kayaks was a fabulous way to enjoy the lake. Watching the stars next to a beach campfire was another highlight. We hope to be back soon!

Lovely stay in quiet waterfront area with easy access to amenities

We had a very relaxing vacation at this lovely, well equipped home with three separate bedrooms and two full bathrooms. Note that there is plenty of space for sleeping and to have privacy. We had only 5 in our group but certainly enough beds/bedding to accommodate a larger family/group. We spent the majority of our time in the very well equipped kitchen with a large table that worked perfectly for meals and game nights. With a cooktop, oven, large refrigerator and all necessary cookware/dinnerware, whipping up meals was a delight. We chose this home because it offered a rural experience, is close to the sights we wanted to visit, has a waterfront location and included air conditioning, internet and easy accessibility for my elderly mother. We were NOT disappointed in the least. The only caveat is that the beach path is a bit rocky, and the water is cold -- but that is to be expected in Nova Scotia (and was true of every beach we visited). Internet service was good - everyone was connected and we were able to game and stream video simultaneously without issue. We also we're able to obtain a video rental card at the local market and rented videos for movie night. Communication was a breeze, the neighbor next door helped us get situated and answered questions and there was well organized information books and notes that provided everything we needed. We were happy to have use of the washing machine as needed and that every convenience we rely on at home was available on our vacation as well. The attention to detail in the furnishings and equipment make this house a true home away from home and it large enough for bigger groups and still cozy enough for smaller families.

Wonderful house

The house is great, a wonderful view of the lake. We stayed 2 weeks, didn,'t get to sit out much, mosquito season in early June, but the sunroom was awesome.

About the host

Alex lives and works in the UK with his Canadian wife and 3 daughters in a small chapel in a typical English village. Loves to travel to hidden away places and indulge in local delicacies..

Why they chose this property

We loved the people on the lake already but when we found the house was for sale, we saw the opportunity to transform this house into a home from home as we regularly visit Nova Scotia to see family and friends. My wife enjoyed renovating the property from top to toe.
Placement is ideal! We can quickly get to some of the South Shore's best ocean beaches or head north to witness some of the best whale watching we have ever experienced.

What makes this property unique

Set in one of the most beautiful lake locations with a wonderful friendly community around the lake.
The beach is an added bonus with shallow water out to at least 50 meters, the water gets warm very quickly..
