As detailed in the location and map sections, this apartment is easily accessible and less than 10-20 min. from most everywhere in the Big Easy. This property is in a typically safe neighborhood, and it did not flood during Hurricane Katrina or since as Orleans Avenue is on a higher ridge than nearby areas.

Although a car is not needed for visiting, parking is available on the public street areas at the property or behind the property's garage area. Enjoy riding our bikes, take the streetcars, use a taxi/Uber/Lyft or plan a walk to see all our city has to offer visitors of all ages. The front porch private entry doorway opens into the front den room including a futon (queen) sofa, chair, cedar chest armoires with storage for guest’s clothing, and a flat screen TV with a DVD player to ensure you are comfortable while relaxing and resting after a fabulous experience. The dividing wall opens into a large room including a dining area with a bar, a roll-top desk with a printer and Wi-Fi high speed Internet. This space includes a stacked washer/dryer and integrates with the open kitchen area stocked and ready for use although there are so many restaurants and eateries for you to partake and enjoy.

The well-maintained central A/C and heat unit will keep you comfy throughout the seasons!

The house is located at the crossroads of two wonderful neighborhoods referred to as Mid-City and City Park. Mid-City, which is known as the "heart of New Orleans" is a place where locals live as a neighborhood rather than just an area of New Orleans. It is a place filled with a community spirit that resonates with its residents old and new. Mid-City has become the new, revitalized and young neighborhood of New Orleans and is attracting young professionals from all over the country who have recently relocated to New Orleans working in the medical fields. With the nearby addition of shopping centers and restaurants, Whole Foods, expansion of City Park attractions and the new medical facilities on Tulane Avenue and the Veterans Affairs Hospital, Mid-City is the place to be!

Just across the street is City Park, one of the nation’s oldest urban parks with 1,300-acres of beautiful grounds, serene water gardens, ancient live oak trees and magical offerings. The park features the New Orleans Museum of Art, putt-putt golf course, regular 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, play grounds Botanical Gardens, Besthoff Sculpture Garden, Train Garden, City Splash, Pan American Stadium and various music and theatrical productions throughout the year. Featured in Bird Watching Magazine, over 280 species of birds have been spotted in the Park each year as well as numerous other wildlife species. The park also offers a host of family-friendly activities, including children’s larger-than-life storybook sculptures in “Storyland” and the one-of-a-kind antique wooden carousel in the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park – a hand-carved marvel of “flying horses” that has been a family favorite for nearly 100 years.

Enjoy a beautiful day on the water with pedal boat rentals, gondola rides, fishing, wildlife viewing, kayaking, and canoeing. Walking/jogging trails, biking paths, horse back riding, yoga, bike and surrey rentals, basketball courts, soccer fields, roller blading, and more are just some of the many outdoor activities available in City Park. Spend a lazy afternoon with the ducks, swans and geese on the park’s historic bayous and lagoons. City Park is home to the world’s largest stand of mature live ancient oaks, modern art and everything in between. Don't miss experiencing all it has to offer visitors of all ages!

NOTE: If you have any questions, please contact us via our gmail address at LizAndAshton. Loved it

Loved this place, the host was amazing and the location was great. The house had everything inside it which was very helpful when your travelling. There was places to eat in walking distance also a grocery store right down the street. Liz also gave us bikes to use which was great because city part is across the street and it is great riding around seeing everything at the park.

A Winner For Us

Extremely clean, comfy and well-stocked apartment. We enjoyed light meals and watching NBA playoffs on TV. Loved having the use of bikes. With City Park so close we were able to get some exercise without worrying about traffic and also explore the Sculpture and Bottanical Gardens. The Canal St. streetcar was convenient enough to walk to and a fun way to bookend our trip down to the riverfront and French Quarter. Liz was very available and accommodating throughout this rental experience. Above and beyond, she allowed us to check in early which essentially gave us an extra day to get to know New Orleans! Would definitely rent here again if in the area.

Great place to stay in New Orleans

This was a wonderful location to stay. The house is very clean and well maintained. The location is as easy to get to as is possible in New Orleans and is so conveniently close to the City Park, and by extension a less crowded Cafe Du Monde. The owners are so kind and attentive to everything you might need and have left all sort of valuable information about what to do and see in New Orleans. When I come back to New Orleans, I will definitely be checking out this location again.

Charming, well appointed house

Loved this rental. The house was fully stocked with everything we needed; Liz and Ashton thought of every last detail. The bed was very comfortable, the bikes were a fun extra, and the location was perfect for walling to Jazz Fest. Also loved the thorough guest instructions and Guide books. Highly recommend this lovely mid-City charmer.

Everything I could have wanted and more.

The pictures don't do this place justice. Tucked back in Mid City a stones throw from City Park is this cozy 1bedroom. Liz met us upon arrival and made sure that we had everything we needed. We were close to buses and street cars, a walk to the local bar, and a short hop to a 24hr cafe du monde in City Park. Liz provided coffee and free and clear laundry detergent along with other amenities. After nightly adventures we came back to a safe, air conditioned, satellite provided place that we affectionately called home during the duration of our stay. Thanks for everything

Location, location, location

Liz and Ashton's house was an ideal home base for our week in NOLA. With various bus stops right outside and the streetcar a short walk away, we had easy access to most everything we wanted to explore. We did rent a car from a local Enterprise site for two days to get out to the plantations and see a bit of the countryside, which was also easy as the bus stopped right near the office. The bikes allowed us to explore City Park more fully as well as to pop over to the grocery store or restaurants easily. The house itself was perfect - stocked with everything we needed, comfortable, and decorated with all sorts of New Orleans spirit. Liz met us when we arrived and gave us a quick tour of the house essentials, which was great, and she and/or Ashton were accessible via email or text throughout our stay. Wonderful all around!

Exceptional. Clean, well organized, had everything we needed

Upon arrival to this property, you are immersed in the experience that is NOLA. Decor abounds that pays tribute to NOLA music, culture and sports legacies. The home is spotless with all the necessities for cooking in or reheating your leftovers. Towels are plush and plentiful. If you forgot something (and who doesn't?), take a look under the bathroom sink: shampoo, conditioner, extra toothbrush, body wash. Wifi is super fast and reliable; Direct TV service was available so we could enjoy the news in the living room and the bedroom. Ample closet space in addition to drawers in the bureaus allowed us to fully unpack and "live like a local". Bikes were a great addition. We took full advantage of those one day, biking through City Park and down Bayou St. John. Hosts Liz and Ashton were super attentive to our arrival and checked in with us upon departure. Awesome property. Will certainly consider staying here in the future! Thank you to our hosts for sharing their incredible property with us!

Home Away from Home Wonder!

We have stayed at several rental properties in New Orleans and have rented from Home Away and VRBO many, many years. Liz has done a superb job in creating a comfortable place chock full of amenities. It is truly like you're staying in someone's fully stocked home. All the basics and more were there, including fresh flowers and coffee too! The bed was very comfortable with luxury linens. It was adjacent to the well-supplied bathroom with thick, luxurious towels. The decor was New Orleans-Mardis Gras great! The Mid-City location is perfect for visiting the Big Easy. It's a short walk to the trolley line that goes down Canal Boulevard to the Quarter and it is across the street from City Park, a gem that has re-surged and beyond since Hurricane Katrina. There are many great place to eat in the vincinity. The cafe featuring hot, fresh beignets is a short half mile walk through the beautiful, historic oaks ladened with Spanish moss. Oh what a way to start the day! There are walking and hiking trails throughout City Park. I used one of the bikes the owners provide which was a great bike and rode for many miles in City Park. The neighborhood is safe in daytime hours and you need to be street-smart at night, like most places in New Orleans. Parking was convenient and no problem. The owners live nearby, so if any problems arise they are there to help. We are in New Orleans at least twice a year. I'm looking forward to staying here again. Thanks Liz!

Our stay was great! They had all the extras you don’t always get in a home away from home.

Liz and Ashton made our stay great. Their place was filled with so much “local” information and decor we were immediately immersed on NOLA. Thanks for a wonderful Anniversary weekend. Walking and riding their bikes through the neighborhood we met many nice friendly people. They definitely have whatever you will need!

Pefect mid-city get away!

The apartment was beautiful. The decorations were bright and well placed. The interior was roomy and very practical. All minor necessities were handled by the owner (i.e. - dishwashing soap, tissues, paper towels). The small problem I had was very quickly resolved with a great sense of urgency. I just loved the place and will definitely stay again. Liz and Ashton are lovely people and very helpful.

This is a wonderful house, very well equipped with all the things you need (and even more). It is located in a nice neighbourhood just next to a large park. Perfect spot in a perfect location

Liz has set up the ideal place for anyone wanting to discover the many, many charms of New Orleans beyond those of the French Quarter. The house is located in a nice residential neighborhood about three miles from both the Quarter and the lake, with buses going by the door and the Canal St. streetcar line about a 10 minute walk away. City Park -- the fifth largest urban park in the U.S. -- is across the street, and with an art museum you should not miss. Great food is available in restaurants only a few blocks away, at local, non-tourist prices. We walked home from dining and music outings on many a night through quiet streets, and always felt perfectly safe. The house itself is immaculate, beautifully furnished (like an art & antiques showroom) and wonderfully quiet. Plenty of coffee, fat towels, luxurious bed & bedding, plus flawlessly performing AC and heat (we used both during our stay over a very quirky April week). Liz and her husband have also taken pains to write a veritable guidebook to their city and make it available to guests. Liz met us on arrival and couldn't have been more welcoming. It's hard to imagine a better place and owners. Next time we visit NOLA this is where we'll go.

Perfect location

Great home in an ideal location to explore NO. Didn't even realize what an advantage to being 6 blocks from the street car was til we got there, so nice to not have to worry about parking in the French quarter. Lovely home with everything you could possibly need, more like house sitting for friends than staying in a rental, fully stocked cabinets, extra water in the fridge, coffee and tea waiting for you. So convenient having washer dryer in unit. We stayed with 2 adults and 2 kids. Kids slept on futon, which was fine for them. Nice park across the street to blow off steam. Even had a cabinet of toys which kids really enjoyed. Really enjoyed our trip.

Perfect Fit!

I looked for several weeks at different properties but knew this was the right one when I found it. First of all, Liz is amazing (her husband also seemed very nice, but we didn't get to see him as much)!!! She was very responsive to my questions prior to booking. My friend and I met in NOLA for a ladies' weekend getaway. It was the most perfect fit! The location is wonderful. You can access the City Park, the streetcars, neighborhood hang outs, grocery stores and more. You just have to walk about 5-6 blocks to hop on a streetcar, which we used as our primary method of transportation into downtown. It didn't take very long to get where we needed to go, no matter what area we were exploring. We rode the bicycles provided with the rental through the park/neighborhoods, there is a greenway nearby, and we walked a lot. The area is extremely safe, and we saw people out walking their dogs late at night or visiting on their front porches. My friend and I felt extremely safe. There is a brewery a couple of blocks away with an outdoor patio, children's play area, and food trucks. We loved the Bakery, which actually serves PO Boys and sandwiches. We ate at the Morning Cafe in the park for bennets and cafe au lait, wandered through the sculpture gardens, ventured to the Garden District, ate at the French Market, soaked in the history, and even found Dead and Co playing in town. I can't say enough about all we were able to do from our "home base." We also enjoyed front porch sittin' like true Southerners do. Liz provided us with all the information we needed to make it the "home" from the airport prior to our arrival and met us when we got there to go over the information she shared about accessing the home, gave us a tour, and helped us with our itinerary. She was responsive when we texted asking for opinions on where to eat or what to see. The home was great! We had every amenity we needed and plenty more. I will return to this property when I am back in NOLA. It doesn't get better than this if you truly are looking to "live like a local."

Great location, great owners

I booked this rental primarily because it's across from City Park which to me is one of N.O. gems. Unfortunately it rained so I didn't experience the park or use the complimentary bikes they offer. The home was comfortable and Liz was very nice. I enjoyed the front porch at all hours of the day and night and always felt safe. Oh and lastly there is a great info book put together by the owners that covers just about everything the city has to offer, what's nearby, safety measures and great insider tips. That was a great touch as well.

Perfect home away from home!

Liz & Ashton's property was a wonderful place to stay. The photos on the website were exactly what we walked into. The place was very clean, well-kept and well stocked for anything you could need for stormy days in. They have two very extensive binders on things to do, places to eat and locations of theatres, stores and more with their own input on each location. My boyfriend and I loved having this personalized guide to reference as we planned our itinerary for each day! The bedroom was very comfortable and had plenty of space to store clothing in the closet and shelves. We appreciated them keeping it cool for us once we got in, but it can get chilly if you leave the A/C running so we only had it on for parts of the day. The kitchen had plenty of glassware and dishware that we utilized for a couple days we ordered in! They were kind enough to stock the fridge with pitchers of filtered water and water bottles. As well as chilled glasses for beer that they had in the fridge and a bottle of wine! I know the water bottles were a life saver as I left mine at home. We felt very comfortable and safe, everyone in the neighborhood was friendly and on the days we stayed in we enjoyed their large flat screen tv watching some movies using an HDMI cord to connect Conor's laptop. The futon in the living room is comfortable. Overall time spent in the home was wonderful and they had exactly what we needed. One feature that Conor and I highly recommend taking advantage of is their provided bikes! Conor and I easily biked to the french quarter taking the bike path not to far from the home. Along the path is also a grocery store where we purchased some orange juice and allergy medicine. So easily accessible, you can purchase any groceries you'd need and bike back. When we biked in the evening Liz showed us the lights they put on the bikes to help us stay safe. Liz was also always ready to answer any questions about food recommendations, how to bike somewhere or how to take the street car. I think that in itself is invaluable. To have a local as a tour guide just a text away was amazing and so helpful. Conor and I had a lovely time exploring New Orleans and staying in this wonderful home!

Great stay! Wonderful hosts

We were very impressed by this home and the hosts. The location was great. It is right across the street from City Park which has so much to do! The rental came with bikes which we got a ton of use out of. The location was about a 15 min ride to so many great attractions and close enough to bike(20 min) to the french quarter. The house was stocked with alot of basic toiletries and kitchen items, and was clean! Liz was super friendly and nice. She was very responsive and communicative before our visit and even offered to pick things up from the grocery store since we had a late night flight. Would definitely recommend this rental!

Close to City Park

I chose this apartment for its proximity to City Park and my son's apartment and I couldn't have been happier. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen was stocked with everything you could possibly need. The hosts, Liz and Ashton, were always available and helpful. One of our favorite past-times was just relaxing on the front porch in the evening. I look forward to staying here on a future visit to NOLA.

About the host

Hosted by Liz Ferguson & Ashton Thomas

Host profile image
We know our city very well. We fully embrace the quirky culture of New Orleans. We love the local music scene, the festivals, and (most of all) the local food! We are happy to share our vast knowledge of New Orleans with our guests.

Ashton is a native New Orleanian and his wife Liz, from Mississippi has been here for over 15 years after moving from San Francisco. We moved to Mid-City after our prior residence was flooded with the Katrina levee breaks. We immediately fell in love with the charm of the area and its convenience to all parts of the city. Mid-City truly is the heart of New Orleans!

In the 10 years since, we have watched not only the recovery of Mid-City, but a renaissance, with an explosion of new restaurants, the rejuvenation of City Park, the extension of the streetcar lines and the addition of the Lafitte Greenway. We love living where we do, and we are excited to share that with visitors so they can enjoy “living like locals” in Mid-City!

We love living in Mid-City so much that we decided last year to purchase another double shotgun house just around the corner. We renovated it to a single home and now live in it. We loved our home on Orleans Avenue, so we decided to keep it and make renovations and updates to offer it as a rental property with two separate and private apartments. The larger area of the home is rented to long-term tenants, and the smaller apartment is listed here for your enjoyment!

Why they chose this property

Location, location, location ~ Enjoy seeing New Orleans via our bikes available to you!

This residence is steps from City Park, featuring dozens of activities in renovated facilities at municipal rates (and often free!). The New Orleans Museum of Art, The Sculpture Garden, Storyland, City Putt, and paddleboat/bike rentals are just a short walk into the park. And that's not to mention your proximity to Jazz Fest at the Fairgrounds and a number of popular festivals, restaurants, and shops, and of course, the streetcar line, when you want to venture farther into the city or head down to the French Quarter. As noted in the location section, this apartment is easily accessible and less than 15-20 min. from most everywhere in the Big Easy.

And when you've exhausted yourself with all the area and city has to over, come home to a comfortable bed and a well appointed kitchen, dining area and den/living room to relax as we have been doing for years.

Also, this is a residential neighborhood and not a party property, so we ask our guests to be mindful to keep noise levels down particularly in the evenings. We respect our neighbors' quality of life with peaceful enjoyment of the property and appreciate the same from our guests.

Take a look around and ask yourself, “Is this how I would care for my own home?”, “Is this how I would want others to act when visiting my home if I were not there?”, and "Is this how I want to remembered as a guest?"

What makes this property unique

Ride bikes or take an easy stroll to a weekly (Thursday) farmer's market with retail wine tastings, City Park, Tad Gormley Stadium, Jazz Fest, Voodoo Fest, Bayou Boogaloo, and more. Experience the beauty and attractions of many neighborhoods to the French Quarter by traveling the Lafitte Greenway via bikes or walking only 2.6 miles. Typical of New Orleans, there is always something going on near and far, and our apartment provides a quiet, comfortable home base to enjoy it all.

If you want to party like a local during Mardi Gras, well we have a front row spot! Just blocks away is the staging of the massive optical floats and where the famous Mardi Gras Endymion parade begins at the City Park Avenue intersection on the Saturday before Fat Tuesday. This apartment is front row to the Endymion and "Samedi Gras" celebration that happens on the Saturday before Mardi Gras every year. Traditionally, before the big parade, a stage will be set up down the street on the neutral ground (y'all might call it a median) where local bands and revelers will wait for the parade. We've been known to have celebrity guests stop by who also serve as the grand marshals of the parade as well as revelers and many bead catchers!

Locals start planting their marks for space days in advance in preparation for the Mid-City party of the year. The parade route rolls directly in front of the house and making you the envy of all by hosting your parade party and living like a local on Orleans Avenue! Our decorations and assistance with party planning for our guests are all “lagniappe”, a local, Spanish creole term for 'throwin' in a lil' extra'!
