About this property

Blackheath Blue Mountains Cottage

Tucked away in a peaceful bushy cul-de-sac, at Gumnut Cottage you will feel like you're a million miles away from it all, while only being a 5 minute drive to town.

This contemporary artist's cottage is the perfect mountain retreat for a couple, small family or an artist looking for inspiration whilst being encapsulated in the World Heritage National Park! ***Beds were upgraded in October 2018***

The Space
Gumnut Cottage is owned by an Australian artist who loves nature! You can see quirky touches and pieces all over the house, there is always something new you notice after every visit! The cottage itself is a mixture of cosy mountain comfort and modern living, with completely restored antique furniture and all the bells and whistles you look for in a home!

Gumnut backs directly onto the bush, there are no roads, no fences just you and the national park. The balcony is completely covered and has a sweeping view of nature making it an entertainer’s dream or the perfect place to sit and read a book and find that inspiration you’ve been looking for!

Kitchen
The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas cooker, oven and dishwasher to cover all your self catering needs.

Bathroom
The large open planned bathroom has a massive bathtub for you to soak in after a long hike and rainshower that is full of natural light from the giant window overlooking the National Park is just sublime.

Bedrooms
The bedrooms are bright and modern with high quality natural bedding that was updated in October 2018, luxury bed linen, electric blankets for the colder months and ceiling fans for the warmer months. The bedding is supportive and soft, however if you prefer a very firm bed, we also have those mattresses available and can arrange that for your stay, just let us know when booking. One bedroom offers a desk area and a bookcase full of board games and books for you to perouse, and the other has a futon seat in it for a quiet reading spot looking out into the landscaped garden. Both bedrooms are fitted with high quality blackout curtains for long mornings in bed, or sheer curtains that will let in the bright morning light and act as a natural alarm clock!

Living Area
The slow combustion fireplace is perfect for the colder months. There is nothing better than curling up next to it and listening to the fire crackle, it is mesmerising! If it gets too cold thhere is also a gas heater that can compliment the fireplace.

There are good speakers for you to plug your phone into, and the television has a digital radio option as well as a DVD player. There are also a selection of DVD’s that you are more than welcome to watch and enjoy during your stay.

Laundry
There is also a fully equipped laundry with washer, dryer, iron, ironing board, hanger and sink if you do need to do washing at any point during your stay. Washing powder and capsules are provided.

The birds start singing at first light, and last light and can be heard all around you. There are quite a few birds that come to visit including some kookaburras and parrots which are absolutely beautiful. Sitting on the deck is the best place to see and hear these amazing creatures.

Guest access
You can walk out the back and into the national park, reaching Hat Hill Creek in less than 10 minutes. Explore the untouched nature at your doorstep. Bush walks and lookouts are in very close proximity.
Blackheath village with its funky cafes, restaurants, high quality produce, vintage shops, monthly market and all facilities you can need is less than 5 minutes drive away.

Interaction with guests
We are here if you need us and are more than happy to recommend some of our favourite local places to visit, you can phone any time, otherwise the place is yours to enjoy in peace.

Other things to note
Wood for the fire is not included in the rental. There is gas heating, but if you want to use the fire we suggest you pick up a bag of wood and kindle at the Blackheath service station on your way.

Beautiful area and comfortable stay
We had a great stay at this property. The bathroom has a lovely bathtub with a view of the bush. The kids loved the garden and even saw a few kangaroos.

Blackheath family stay
This property is unique in terms of its location at the edge of the beautiful Blue Mountains NP. We were greeted by a group of resident Rosellas and really enjoyed the peaceful surrounds. The cottage is well equipped and the host was very prompt and helpful with our queries ahead of arrival - a great stay!!

Family Getaway
Great location - feels like you are in the bush, but you are only minutes away from shops, cafes, restaurants and easy access to some awesome bush walking tracks. Ideal place for a family or 2 couples.
