Awesome tropical beach house!

The location of the house is fabulous, the beach is pristine and gorgeous, and the ocean is wonderful, probably the perfect temperature. The waves and undertow were a little rough at times (depending on the weather/tide level), so if you are bringing small children, proceed with caution, but if you like being in the waves it is really amazing. There were boogie boards and surf boards available for use, which was wonderful. The on-site caretakers were great and helped with bags and getting the grill going, etc. Every day they came in to clean up the downstairs, including doing the dishes and sweeping up the sand we dragged in throughout the day, which was much appreciated. Having some Spanish will help facilitate communicating with them; our Spanish is pretty basic and we all did fine. In addition, the owner was amazingly responsive to any questions we sent (as in, usually responded within minutes - both before and during our stay). The house was comfortable and the air conditioning was great, very quiet and effective. We only used the AC overnight, as most of the time there was enough breeze and there are a lot of fans in the house. Being off the grid, there are a few things that are a little different than guests might be used to at home, but for us, the amazing views and private beach more than made up for those differences. The outdoor showers were great for rinsing off after being on the beach. The internet generally worked fine with some occasional brief hiccups. The nearest grocery stores are in Pedasi (30-40 minutes away by car - we recommend something with 4WD if possible for the access road to the house); we stopped at a SuperCarnes in Chitre on the way down and stocked up on staples and that served us well. In addition, there was a mini super in Pedasi Plaza (on the edge of town as you approach from Panama City) that seemed to cater somewhat to tourists and expats; that helped us round out our supplies after arriving. This was the last stop for us before heading back home, and we all wished we had been able to spend much more time there. Although we really loved our time in Casco Viejo/Panama City and in the national parks, our time at this house was the most rejuvenating stop of our trip and we are already planning to rent this place for longer on our next visit to Panama. Highly recommend!

A place to truly get away from it all

If you like remoteness and a rustic experience, this is your place. The property is at the end of a challenging dirt track that requires a 4X4 to navigate. The house is at the end of a 2 mile fabulous beach with maybe 5 other houses so we usually had the beach all to ourselves. The amenities are interesting. The refrigerator was not working when we arrived, but Juan (the caretaker) set us up with a large cooler and plenty of ice. And within two days, a new refrigerator was installed. The showers are very refreshing because the hot water heater is not working. But that is no problem because the A/C units cannot be used for more than an hour or two without draining the batteries for the solar power system. So it is plenty warm inside the house with only fans for cooling. But take a nice cool shower and stand in front of one of the fans and you can cool off nicely. That is, when the water is working. The water pump motor tends to overheat, which causes the pump to shutoff. But after a wait of 10 or 15 minutes, the pump usually comes back on. Which provides an opportunity to get thoroughly warmed up so that cool shower feels extra good. There is plenty of wildlife around with howler monkeys In the woods and pelicans feeding in the waves in front of the house. And the upstairs bathroom is home to several tree frogs. They are quite cute and harmless, but can startle you when you try to go to the bathroom and you don’t notice that one of the frogs is in the toilet bowl getting a drink. To her credit, the owner Linda, is very responsive when problems occur, and she gets them corrected as soon as possible. Overall, staying at Casa Relax is an experience we will never forget.

Great place to stay, a quiet piece of paradise

We loved this place, the photos don't do it justice! We went as a group of 6 friends and the house worked well as a base to relax and unwind. The house itself is great and bedrooms comfortable, with the main bedroom the best for a couple but the bunk room was fine for adults to share too. The balcony upstairs gives you a great view over the ocean and BBQ area outside we used several times. We also loved making a fire on the beach under the stars at night, because it's so far away from any light pollution the night sky was incredible. Lynda was great to deal with and made it easy for us to book, sent clear directions etc... and Carlos/Carolina made sure we had what we needed when we arrived.

It was a lot like paradise!

This place was a perfect quiet getaway for our family of seven. Having Carlito and Caroline there is a real asset, we got so much good advice and directions on the area. We stayed for a week and havn't had enough yet!

Simply awesome!

A group of 5 of us from California stayed @ the house; it was clean, roomy, and generally well equipped, any anything lacking was well made up by the fabulous views and beach and palapa. The beach is flat, sandy and we rarely saw anyone on it. The caretakers, Carlos and Carolina, made our trip 100% enjoyable, offering any help possible, from bug-bite spray to restaurant recommendations, to trips to waterfalls, etc. While the house is remote and "off the grid" requiring some caution re: use of power, its solar and few hour generator supplied more than what we needed. I'd highly recommend staying here, and I hope to return.

Get away from it all

We spent 6 nights here over Christmas/New Year's week and loved it. If you are looking to get away from it all and experience paradise, this is the place! The house is beautiful and the view even more spectacular. The decks overlook a huge backyard that opens right out onto your own private beach! The beach is clean and clear with great waves for boogey boarding, surfing, or swimming. The house is beautiful and very comfortable. Enjoy a nap on the deck relaxing in one of the hammocks! Because it is off the grid and relies on solar power, you must be careful to conserve energy but we did not find this to be an issue (just something to be aware of). It will take awhile to get here, but we thought it was all worth it. We rented a pickup truck in Panama City which gave us plenty of room for the 5 of us (my husband and I, plus our 13 year old and 11 year old twins) and all our stuff. We stopped for groceries on the way down so had everything we needed. The house is nicely equipped with all the linens, towels, etc you will need and the kitchen is set for all the cooking you will want to do, including basic supplies like oil, coffee, sugar, some spices, etc. The drive took about 5 hours. Then Carolina met us once we drove through Pedasi to show us to the house. To get to the house, it is about another 20 mins on a dirt track! So keep in mind that anytime you leave the house, it will take 20 mins to get to the road.....then once on the road, it is 20 mins to the right to get to Pedasi and or about 10 mins to the left to get to Playa Venao. Plenty to do or easy to do nothing at all. We spent most days in Playa Venao which is a sleepy sort of surfing community with a great laid back feel. Several great restaurants to eat at in Playa Venao and we spent the days surfing and snorkeling. We took a trip with Carlito to the waterfall which was amazing and also did a zip lining excursion which was awesome. The caretakers, Carlito and Carolina, were awesome. They live in a house right on the property so they are there if you need anything, but stay out of the way if you want privacy. Super helpful and pointed us to all the right places. They made our trip amazing. One of our best vacations ever!! If you are looking for night clubs, room service and a resort community, this will not be the place for you. But if you are looking to get away and experience your own private beach in a beautiful house, then this place is amazing!

Why they chose this property

The property was one of the only pieces of titled beach front properties available in Pedasi. This home was built by a local builder and his wife. The wood used throughout the home are also local and were handcrafted especially for this home. The area lends to a relaxing and tranquil lifestyle. Most of the time spent here is either in the ocean playing in the waves or hanging out in the rancho. Mornings are the real treat, while having coffee in the rancho. The pelicans fly by, only inches above the incoming waves. In season, the mother whales are teaching their young to fend for their own food. This will surely be a crowd pleaser, no matter what the age! If you love to barbeque, the rancho is the perfect place. Eat, drink and be merry all on your spectacular private beach front property!

What makes this property unique

The benefit of this property is its location and its sustainability. It is as green as it can get. This house is all solar powered, along with its own separate solar powered well. We have learned that we have to be responsible about the use of the solar power, so we also ask that of our guests. Should you wish to use the A/C units at night, Please let our concierge know beforehand. A few hours to cool the room off at the end of the day is adequate, But if you need the A/C's all night, we have to run the generator (a charge of $25.00 per night). Our staff will handle it all, but please give them plenty of notice. Our home is central to the town of Pedasi or to the local Surf Spots, such as: Playa Venao. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place. It is a 25 to 30 minute ride to go surfing or to one of the many restaurants. The peace and quiet this home has can't be matched. It is great to be able to get away from the crowds and noise at the end of a long day. Be home in time for a beach bonfire while watching the sun set over the mountains with your favorite drink. Life is good in Pedasi!
