Lake Huron Beach

The property was as advertised. The property owners are extremely easy to work with and checked in with us during our stay for any concerns. The beach is totally awesome! We walked for miles and enjoyed the beauty around us. There are many pros regarding this cottage. The kitchen is fully equipped, clean, many towels and linens and overall a great place to stay.

Secluded and peaceful retreat

After a very busy season of wedding planning for our son we wanted some quiet time away to unwind. This was a wonderful place to do just that. The lake and beautiful sand beach is just a few steps away and always in view! We spent a lot of time sitting in the adirondack chairs soaking in the lake breeze and waves. They were very soothing. The home was everything that it was advertised to be & the pictures show it well. The only reason I do not give a 5-star rating is that the home has 3 levels that involve a step on the first floor. These are probably due to add-ons over the years but it made it difficult to navigate, especially in the dark. Other than that the home was quiet and comfortable. The hosts were wonderful & engaging. Available at the drop of a hat if needed. Thank you for your hospitality.

Sunrise Shore paradise

We loved the privacy afforded by the natural wooded setting. Walks north and south on the beach are allowed. The beach is all sand - no rocks. The house and beach were equipped with everything needed and more for a relaxing get away. I never missed a spectacular sunrise in one of the beach chairs with my coffee.

Excellent all around

Wonderful property, excellent hosts. Cabin is awesome and you cannot beat the beach - sandy, private. You can walk out quite far into Lake Huron and the bottom is all sand. We loved our time here and hope to come back soon!

Stay Here!!

50° water couldn’t even keep my girls out of the clear blue Lake Huron. The house was beautiful and private even tho there are houses on both sides. We spent most of our time on the white sand or relaxing in the chairs off the porch. Couldn’t have asked for a better location to spend our vacation at!

Majestic Lake Huron

Very pleased with the cleanliness and that the beds were all made. The kitchen was equipped with quality products throughout. Impressed with the little details like shampoo and conditioner in the showers, natural bar soap, foot bath at the door... The beach was just outside the door and the wall of windows allowed us to enjoy the lake all day long. An excellent experience and great property.

Retreat on the water!

My 6 girlfriends and I travel and stay at different VBROs a few times a year, and this place is gorgeous! The property looks and feels like it’s in the middle of the woods. Beautiful sandy beach with a lighthouse near by! The backyard is a bird watching paradise and a great gathering area! Dirk and Kathy are very kind and easy to work with! We highly recommend this place!!

Lake Huron Home

The view of Lake Huron is spectacular from both the inside of the house and the beach. Kitchen well stocked. Beautiful fire place that worked well. Kathy was a great host taking extra care to ensure we had what we needed. No concerns with the property during our stay. We hope to return next year.

September on the Lake

It’s a wonderful retreat in a natural setting. The lake is at the end of a short footpath. The sound of the waves can be heard from inside the cottage and there is no sound of truck traffic from the highway.

Week Getaway

This property was very nice and clean! The setting along Lake Huron was perfect and was literally just steps outside the back door. Being able to listen to the waves while falling asleep was fantastic. We are hoping to be able to visit again in the near future!

Relaxing time at the beach

My husband, son and his girl friend enjoyed our time at the beach. The house is about 75 feet from the water. Even washing dishes was relaxing as you had a perfect view of the water. The kayaks were a big hit to enjoy time on the water. Laying in the hammock for a lazy afternoon or sitting on the wooden deck by the water just enjoying the sound of the waves. Very private. Kathy and Dirk were great hosts. They provide everything that you need and answer any questions you may have. What a wonderful way to enjoy a relaxing week at the beach.

Wonderful

As we walked into the house, I blurted out, "it is nicer than the pictures!" The cottage is so close to the Lake and the beach area has a nice combination of shade and sun. The swimming was great--sandy bottom, clear water, no motor boats. We also liked being off the main highway, on a quieter road. We especially enjoyed biking to the lighthouse and back on a quiet road. Although we had neighbors, the property felt secluded because of the landscaping. Pros: the Lake of course. Also comfortable furniture and good mattresses. Four patio doors with a constant breeze from the Lake (although there is a.c. if you want it). Also there were beach towels for us to use and beach chairs and kayaks and a canoe. Cons: The kitchen is very well stocked, but there is a downside: there was no room for any groceries in the kitchen. In my opinion the pros far outweigh the cons!

Wish we had booked it for 2 weeks instead of 1

I have to be honest. We were more than a little surprised when we arrived. The cottage sits in the midst of a number of cottages with carefully groomed lawns, few trees, etc. Katherine and Dirk have let their property grow somewhat on the wild side with lots of trees, plants, shrubs, etc. It was so different from the surrounding properties that we initially thought we might have made a mistake in booking it. Uh-uh. That was no mistake. I think what they have done with their property is a bit of genius. My wife and I took our glasses of wine and went out front to sit and watch the waves roll in on Lake Huron. It was then that we realized the trees and other plant growth provided seclusion and a wonderful sense of privacy. It was like we were in our own little world with a private beach. We had a couple family members and a friend join us for a few days, and they "got it" immediately. Everyone agreed that we couldn't have found a better place. The cottage, itself, is bright and cheery. Large sliding doors look out toward Lake Huron. The kitchen is small, but has everything one needs. The circular staircase to the second floor is a challenge for an old, overweight codger like me, but outside stairs offer an alternative way to get to the two bedrooms and laundry room upstairs. Previous renters had broken the kitchen's microwave, but Dirk had arranged that early Monday a new microwave was installed. Kathy and Dirk are really nice people who were truly interested in making our stay as good as it could possibly be. We didn't travel to Michigan to watch TV, but we did appreciate the SiriusXM music available in the house. We spent most of our time talking, laughing (a lot) and playing a variety of games. This lovely cottage was just a great place for a couple of Arizona desert dwellers to enjoy the water of Lake Huron and create wonderful memories with family and a friend that will last a lifetime. I sincerely wish we could have booked it for two weeks instead of just the one.

Great Location, Fantastic View!

This home is very nice. It has everything you’d want for a Northern Michigan vacation. The location on the Lake Huron shoreline was fantastic. Walking a few steps to the beach every morning for coffee was the best. We took our fishing boat and there wasn’t adequate parking for that or a good place to turn around, but we were able to parallel park on the drive in front of the house for the week. My only complaint is the 4:30 am train M-F (not the owners fault). It surprised us the first night, but we eventually got used to it. The train whistle could wake the dead. A television in the living room would’ve been nice, but there was one in one of the bedrooms. Just couldn't get many people in there at one time. Kathy was very responsive and took care of any needs we had throughout the week. We had a really nice and relaxing time, and that’s what it’s all about.
