(Art) Was Ready for It…
My husband and our friends (8 total) stayed at this so very spacious property for the Taylor Swift concert weekend and loved every bit. Art was quick with the communication and even let us check in a little early with part of our party arriving earlier in the day. We would definitely stay at this lovely historic home again.

Good other than most beds were uncomfortable, matress and box springs were out/deformed and we had to purchase batteries for the television remotes because there were none in them.

Great location
This house had a great location and was HUGE! Best part was it was very quiet! There were 10 of us here and when you went to bed tug couldn’t hear anyone who stayed up! The restaurant right next door was really good and very convenient!

Great family weekend!!!
We loved our time at the Raggety Ann and Andy house. Plenty of room for everyone.. The kids loved the pinball and skitball machines, there was very few times when they were not in use . The house was clean, had all amenities that was needed. Our family visited many of the area attractions offered. Family all said they would like to return in the future.

"Best trip ever"
From my group of 10 that take an annual trip, this was the "best trip ever" !! A lot of that sentiment was due to the great house house we rented. It is perfect in all respects: location, roominess, cleanliness and all the amenities that a group needs. Art was very easy to communicate with and met us at the door. No one had a single negative thing to say about the house.

What an amazing place to stay with a group of guests!
This is a welcoming, homey, perfect size, outstanding location for a group gathering. We were celebrating my daughters law school graduation with family and friends. Each of us commented how much we enjoyed being able to socialize in the backyard, our favorite spot! We also appreciated the games that were offered for a little healthy competitive fun!! Thanks Art!

This was a perfect place for our family to be together for a wedding weekend.
This home was very well equipped to host an open house for the bride and groom! In addition to allowing our extended family to stay together for the wedding weekend. The bedrooms were nice and the bathrooms were plenty big for all of us to get ready for the wedding. I would suggest ear plugs as the noise from the highway can be very loud for light sleepers. All in all it was a very nice place, very close and convenient to walk to places to eat and drink.

Very Accommodating host
The host was easy to get in touch with and went above and beyond for our special circumstances. The house is a historical home over 100 years old, is spacious and provides easy access to downtown. The house was basically clean and towels and sheets smelled clean. However, it could use a deep cleaning; the house smelled musty. There are some things that would make the house nicer: removing the carpet and replacing it with wood or laminate, making small repairs to door handles and locks, addressing the moldy smell in one of the top floor bathrooms, and updating some of the worn art. The bathroom on the middle floor curtains are see through at night. Adding a second refrigerator would better match the number of persons the house can accommodate.

Large place great for lots of people
The property was great for our group of Mom's at a volleyball tournament. Everyone had their own room. The mattress I was on was very old and saggy. If I were there with my husband would not have been comfortable. Some things could use to be updated, but overall

Great Memorial Day Weekend!
Our large group of friends in town for an annual Indy 500 weekend stayed here this year and loved it. There was plenty of room for everyone with ample space to gather inside and outside. Parking was easy and plentiful and the location was really convenient. The kitchen was well equipped and the outdoor gas grill and refrigerator came in handy. It was so great for us all to be able to stay in the same house instead of hotel rooms. Art was great to work with and was always available if we needed him. Thanks Art for making our 40th year at Indy so memorable!

Family Christmas Gathering
We had a Christmas family reunion of 20 adults. The house was perfect for us in the sleeping space, kitchen space, and very large family room to watch football games and large dining room for game playing (and eating). Even though it was chilly, we spent time playing games in the outdoor space as well and sitting around the fire. The house was well equipped with seating, bedding, towels, kitchen equipment, games, and books. Loved it so much that we want to book again next year.

SO MUCH CHARACTER!
We had a fabulous family reunion this past weekend. 10 kids (from age 2 to 18) and 10 adults! Great place - well equipped! Any questions or concerns and Art was right there to assist us. We are already planning another future reunion and hoping we can rent the Raggedy Ann and Andy house again. Walks downtown were fun and so much history to absorb. We loved the cobblestone streets and the Sub Zero Ice Cream Shop!

Not what we were expecting, but hindsight is 20/20
We knew that staying in a 100+ year old house would have its quirks, but I wish I had known: the house is next to a highway & train tracks (train honks at night). At least one of the bedrooms and bathrooms are windowless (thus poor ventilation). One of the rooms has two bunkbeds and the washer/dryer and the water heater... it's a utility room. The bathrooms and shaggy carpets need a deep clean and/or updates. Towels were old and raggedy, some bleach stained. What felt most deceptive was a laminated card in the kitchen asking guests to leave a 5-star review in exchange for a $600 gift card. So in hindsight, I would have had more realistic expectations if I didn't rely on reviews, and if I thought more about the fact that the listing does not include photos of all rooms. I did not contact the host about my concerns, as I felt like no immediate change would impact our stay. What was good: Check-in/out process was easy. Location is walkable to some nice cafes and restaurants. Enjoyed the board game selection.

This house was very accommodating for the amount of people we had (20). Location is great.
The house was full of books, toys and board games to accommodate children along with most amenities necessary. We had 5 cars and there was plenty of parking. The house was very clean. I would have given 5 stars if the furniture, bedding and kitchenware were of higher quality. We loved that “Lime” scooters were everywhere near the house and you could easily travel via scooters all over downtown. We also walked to monument circle in about 20 minutes with no problem. With 20 people, half of which were children, we always had activities to do inside or near the home.

DESIGNATED HISTORIC HOMESITE - BIRTHPLACE OF
RAGGEDY ANN AND ANDY - “1914”

Creator, cartoonist, illustrator, and author JOHNNY GRUELLE brought to life the characters of Raggedy Anne and Andy at this location. Johnny lived next door, now I-65, and would frequent this popular meeting place - The Jacob Klein Bakery / Grocery Store and residence. It was common for Johnny to spend countless hours here in this home with area neighbors and visitors, including poet James Whitcomb Riley. The Presidential Home of Benjamin Harrison is also nearby. The home of James Whitcomb Riley and the Harrison Home are open to the public. Raggedy Ann and Andy were created here as well as many cartoons and illustrations. The books displayed were found in the attic as well as several drawings and other historical items.

Johnny’s father, Richard (RB) Gruelle was an artist in his own right as a member of “The Hoosier Group” (1851 – 1914). Johnny Gruelle, creator of Raggedy Ann and Andy lived from 1880 – 1938. This home was honored with the title of “The Raggedy Ann Historic Homesite” during the 1998 Lockerbie Square Home Tour.

Who would have dreamed that when artist and writer Johnny Gruelle filed a patent on September 7, 1915, the “design for a doll”, which he dubbed “Raggedy Ann”, would remain a household name decades later? “Her essence and what the illustrator tried to inspire was all about love, kindness, and good morals.”

It is the Gruelle ideal that books for children should contain nothing to cause fright, suggest fear, glorify mischief, excuse malice or condone cruelty. That is why they are called “BOOKS GOOD FOR CHILDREN”.

WELCOME TO THE BIRTHPLACE OF RAGGEDY ANN AND ANDY!
