Cove Cottage Vacation

Our second stay at Cove Cottage was even more enjoyable than our first earlier this summer. Went kayaking, canoeing with the 2 dogs and relaxed on the beach. Beautiful weather, comfortable cottage. Everything we needed. Definitely recommend.

Perfect summer getaway

Wonderful stay in a private cabin for the family. Summer camp feel with all the necessities. The cabin was perfect for our family of four. Spent a lot of time right at the lake. Kayaking and exploring. Lots to do to keep young ones busy and tons of wildlife. Heads up If you have a lower riding vehicle- the driveway in is a bit rough. Host is very responsive and helpful.

A Gem

My husband and Cavalier King Charles had the best time. The cabin had everything we needed and more. Great location; steps to our own private beach. Fishing kayaking. Sounds of birds in the morning. We barbecued most nights. Had a short 15 minute ride to Plymouth Center for some seafood. We will be back. It was a peaceful and restful vacation. Cathryn the hostess; was very gracious; she made herself available if needed. just a great experience.

A Peaceful Oasis

Secluded, clean, well-appointed cabin on the lake with a private dock and beach. Perfection! Wake to the birds and have coffee on the deck before a morning swim with the dog. Head to the harbor for a lobster roll and a stroll in the village. Evenings spent listening to a killer record collection and playing games around the table.

Whimsical Getaway

We truly enjoyed our vacation here in Plymouth! It is a very unique property, that is very hidden and private. We enjoyed swimming, canoeing, and fishing off the dock at the lake. A few things you should know about the property: It is wonderful but RUSTIC. No AC, or TV’s, but there is wifi. The walls are thin and not insulated, so bugs can come in. The property is difficult to drive in and out of because of the bumpy driveway and road leading up to it. We enjoyed unplugging and enjoying nature as a family, so it was perfect for us.

Comfortable little cottage

Literally everything you could need was provided. Microwave, coffee maker, toaster, mixer, Tupperware, even a coffee grinder. Nice Weber grill on the back deck. My daughter loved the kids loft above the living room. And it was fun introducing her to old bands with the record player. We used the canoe and kayak, the water was perfect. We even caught a fish casting from the dock. Definitely want to come back again next year.

Amazing

By the far the best overall trip we have ever taken. The property and cabin far exceeded any of our expectations. You are totally secluded on the property. The private beach is the perfect size. The pond was warm. The water is crystal clear. The cabin is so inviting. The outside shower is an awesome experience. The location is excellent cape cod and Plymouth are a short drive. Excellent seafood markets. Cannot go wrong with this place. Highly recommend to anyone!! Property manager was available for any questions. We are avid travelers with our dogs this vacation tops them all for overall experience.

Don't wait, book now!

The cottage is a special place, set in the woods it is quiet and peaceful. My husband and I spent our days kayaking and enjoying the private beach as well as exploring. We loved listening to music courtesy of Cathryn sharing her extensive vinyl collection, which was so much fun. It rained a couple of the days that we were there, but the cottage has games, puzzles and books to enjoy. I really enjoyed reading Jane Austen's Mansfied Park. The kitchen had everything we needed and more. This was a wonderfully relaxing vacation. If you're considering booking this property do it, don't wait. We are already hoping to come back. Thank you for sharing your cottage with us Cathryn.

Cove Cottage

My husband and I stayed at Cove Cottage for a week in July with our two dogs and it was wonderful. Didn't take much time to feel at home. The house was comfortable and really had everything we needed. The dogs were happy and it was a very private location so we weren't on top of neighbors. There were plenty of options to walk the dogs. The market is about 2 miles away for groceries - a very pleasant place. We ate at Redbrook's restaurant a couple of times and had fried clams on the Plymouth waterfront. The bedroom was super comfortable and the quiet was a delight. The wifi was fast and if you miss having a tv, you can always stream something on whatever device you bring. We woke up to the birds every morning and enjoyed their singing throughout the day. We canoed around the entire pond early Sunday morning and spoke with friendly folks out fishing and two women rowing sculls the length of the pond. They went a lot faster than we did. It was hard to go home, so we booked another week at the end of August. Hopefully, we'll be back next year, too.

A wonderful place to get away

We loved our week at the Cozy Cottage, even though it rained a fair amount. The cottage is rustic and quirky, but it has all the kitchen appliances and equipment that we could want--even a dishwasher--and it was comfortably furnished. There's a washing machine, but no dryer, so we hung our laundry on the line when the weather was good, and on a large wooden rack when it rained. It's located at the end of a winding, bumpy dirt road--best to drive a car with good clearance. It felt like being at my late grandfather's getaway cottage. This isn't for everyone, but if you're looking for an old time getaway, this is the place. There is no TV, but there are dozens and dozens of books in the bookcases. The vinyl collection is classic. On rainy days we settled into the stuffed chairs and read with the sound of rain on the roof. It's just a perfect place to de-stress and unwind. On the sunny days we spent time at the lake, enjoying the canoe and kayaks. Our dog had so much fun swimming in the clean, clear water and jumping off the dock. Cathryn was very responsive and easy to deal with. We shopped at Market Basket and highly recommend Gunther Tooties for fresh NY style bagels.

A quiet retreat

I thought this was a great little place. The house itself was comfortable and clean and the surrounding land was beautiful. The little beach was a perfect place for our three year old to swim and play, which we did just about every day, and there were plenty of restaurants and grocery stores in driving distance. Our host made herself accessible and checked in occasionally, but otherwise left us to our own devices, and that was perfect for us. This is definitely a woodsy, rustic place. There are bugs and tadpoles and a little family of ducks that followed us from the lake almost all the way home one day. We loved our stay.

Ideal setting and way to unplug

This cottage was exactly what I was hoping for, a way for the whole family to unplug. The cottage was extremely well equipt from the kitchen to the boat house. The property was private and sandy beach faces the afternoon sun. I felt extremely safe with my children playing in the water because it was crystal clear and easy to see them, and gradual entry. We had so much fun as a family of four spending time here. My husband woke early fishing on pond or traveling near by to fish on the Cape Cod Canal. We found a market down the street, and went to Scusset beach once but honestly enjoyed the property so much that in ten days we truly never really left. I will share that there is a ladder to a loft space that made us a bit nervous, but our children were very good at listening and stay away from the ladder. The loft is such a cute space for a bit older children to explore, maybe 6-7. It has books and toys, and could be another sleeping space. Lastly, we found this property really cooled off each night due to the pond breeze and we always slept comfortable.

Magical rustic cabin

Cove cottage is a gem! We felt like we were in the peaceful mountains of New Hampshire or Maine but we’re just in the next town over. We had so much fun in the clean sandy pond. The cabin was adorable and the entire place was very private. Thanks so much Cathryn for a great week!

All-Around Lovely Holiday

Cove Cottage is a beautiful, rustic cottage in a lake side setting. The gardens surrounding the cottage are lovely and cared for as is the interior of the cottage. The well-kept path to the private lakeside beach winds through the shoreline forest and arrives at a beautiful sandy beach with a dock. The beach area is under a canopy of trees, so that it is possible to enjoy the water without being in direct sun. We had fun swimming, canoeing and kayaking each day. Cooking meals in the well stocked kitchen was enjoyable, and eating on the back porch was delightful. Cathryn and her family have taken great care in restoring this wonderful cottage and made our trip truly memorable. We highly recommend Cove Cottage.

Peaceful serene retreat

We stayed here as a couple with a dog for four days. The cottage is beautifully decorated and outfitted with everything you need for a relaxing long weekend. We cooked, read and swam on the private (!) beach. There is a canoe to paddle in the lake as well. We felt that we were on our very own private island. The grounds are beautiful. We can't wait to be back.

Beautiful Property and Relaxing Stay

My family of three, including a 5 year old, loved being at Cove Cottage and relaxing in the cottage and by the pond. The cottage has everything we needed and nothing that we really didn't need (wifi/TV). We spent most of our time on the property, which was very private - reading, cooking, listening to music, swimming and kayaking. There's a great selection of books, plenty of board games, a diverse collection of vinyl records (up to the 80's), some fun musical instruments, outdoor toys/equipment, and a fairly stocked kitchen. The view of garden was great - we loved watching the butterflies. The outdoor 'rainfall' shower and indoor tub were great. We really had little need or desire to 'explore' off the property aside from getting a bite to eat (The Seafood Shanty has the best chowder and meatiest lobster roll) and checking just a few touristy spots toward the end of our stay. The pond was clear, relatively warm and shallow near the shore, which was perfect for us. We swam daily and seemed to be the only folks on the pond (end of August) during the weekdays. Overall, we had a fantastic stay and hope to stay there again in the future. Thank you, Cathryn for sharing your magical property!

Relaxing week on beautiful Long Pond

Our weeks stay at this amazing retreat was just what the doctor ordered. Upon my arrival I was met by the owners for a tour of the grounds which are lovely and private. They had a bottle of wine chilling and even some treats for the pups! The house is warm and comforting and I absolutely love the claw foot bathtub. I love to cook and the kitchen was well equipped with all the tools you need to make a wonderful meal. Our two dogs loved swimming and sunning themselves on the sandy beach and the short walk to the water brings you back in time to being a kid and walking barefoot on the soft mossy ground. The beach area is sandy and the water clear. Most of the day time was spent simply relaxing on the beach reading and people watching. At night the record player and the large library or albums was a great source of entertainment. I didn’t miss the television at all! If you want to unplug and forget about the worries of the world this is your place.

A slice of heaven!

Cove Cottage was everything we had hoped for and more! The hosts were wonderful, very welcoming, accommodating and helpful. The Cottage itself is just perfect! Very well appointed and incredibly comfortable. The path to the pond is magical and the stone boat house, magnificent! The water temperature was amazing. Warmer on over cast days than the air. The beach has enough sun and shade which makes it very comfortable to spend ample time down there. The kayaks and the canoe are great to explore this beautiful pond. The hot/cold outdoor shower had great pressure and was such a yummy way to clean up. Good for just rinsing your feet before coming into the beautiful cottage as well. The record collection is such fun. Cooking, listening to music, and the wonderful lighting in the cottage makes for a very pleasant evening after sunset. We loved it. Thank you so much for sharing this gem with us. Bob and Carla Jamaica Plain, MA

About the host

Hosted by Owner / Property Manager

Host profile image
Our family has been living on Long Pond since 1937. George and Ellen Holbrook first purchased a summer camp (complete with ice house) on November 30. 1937. The purchase price was $400, payable in monthly installments of $20 and earning interest at 5% per year. Since then five generations of Holbrook descendants have called Long Pond home.

Why they chose this property

The Cove Cottage property was originally part of the Helen Storrow Girl Scout Camp which thrived from 1917 well into the 1970's. Helen was the wife of James Jackson Storrow for whom Storrow Drive in Boston was named.
Hundreds of young campers enjoyed swimming and boating and exploring the natural beauty of Long Pond including Sylvia Plath who spent the summers of 1945 and 1946 at the Camp.

What makes this property unique

Long Pond is one of Massachusetts' deepest natural lakes and home to a vibrant and healthy ecosystem. Long Pond is considered one of the best fisheries in the state and has been described as mecca for trout fishing in southeastern Massachusetts. Bald eagles, ospreys, herons, and at least a dozen herp species reside here (including one endangered turtle). An extensive network of walking trails in the local area has been developed by the Wildlands Trust and provide a wonderful introduction to the unique pine barrens system. On summer nights the sound of traditional music drifting across the water from the Pinewoods Dance Camp is a special treat.
