About this property

Waterfront Cabin Tucked into the Forest

Surround yourself with nature- not neighbours!
The Acorn Cabin is surrounded by 10 private acres of beautiful forest.
"This place is magical!"

The waterfront is deep, weed free and amazingly quiet. This often makes for a serene swimming experience. It's cottage life perfection!

Located on the Magnetawan River at the mouth to beautiful Pickerel Lake, guests enjoy exploring by paddle board and canoe, or hiking one of the many nearby trails. The cabin is also close to landmarks such as the Screaming Heads of Midlothian, Huntsville and Algonquin Provincial Park.

Built with many reclaimed pieces, this cabin is the true definition of rustic luxury.

BEDROOMS
The lower bedroom is cozy, packed with charm and has just enough space for a comfortable double bed. Its large picture windows allow you to awake to the the sights and sounds of nature. It comes equipped with night stand with a phone charging lamp.

The upper loft is spacious. It’s like 'sleeping in a tree house' with beautiful views over the forest. It is 5'10" at its peak and offers a queen, a single and a double bed.

All linens and pillows are provided.

KITCHEN
The cabin is partially off grid, but comes equipped with everything to make your stay comfortable.

There is a filtered coffee maker, kettle, microwave, induction-cook top, toaster and slow cooker. In addition, guests can use the propane BBQ. Plates, bowls, pots, pans and cutlery are all included. The kitchen is stocked with coffee, tea, oil, salt pepper and additional spices.

Although we don't have traditional running water inside of the cabin, we leave fresh jugs of potable water for each new guest, and there is a source to refill as needed.

Enjoy your meals at the picnic table or at the small dining area located inside.

BATHROOM
Without septic, a small composting washroom offers the sweetest indoor convenience.

The BEST feature by far is the luxury outdoor shower with on-demand heated water. It has an optional ‘peek a boo’ forest view for those that really want to connect with nature. The shower alone keeps our guests returning!
Please note that the shower is only operational when there is no danger of frost which is generally June- October.*

INTERNET / TV
There is decent cell service at the cabin but without wifi, some might enjoy a digital detox. In a pinch, it is usually possible to hot spot. Tim Horton's is always available for emergency back up, and is a short 15 min. drive into town.

OUTDOOR AREA
The waterfront is serene. It is rare to see another person while you swim or paddle.
The trail to the waterfront is 'Algonquinesque' with a long staircase wrapping past beautiful rocks. It is approximately 400ft long and takes about 4 minutes at a leisurely stroll.

Because the cabin is elevated, the top section of the trail leads down a set of stairs. It is flat and well groomed from there, but this rental is best suited for guests who are sure footed.

There is a waterfront dock, as well as a deck with seating.
At the cabin, guests have seating around the fire pit as well as a beautiful screened-in porch for taking in those forest views and listening to the wildlife.

Guest access
Parking is available on the long laneway leading up to the cabin

This wonderful spot is nature at its best. Some of our neighbours include moose, beaver, and deer. We would love to welcome you as our next guest!

Pets are permitted, but must be pre-approved.

Quiet, Peaceful and Fun!
This place was everything I could ask for! It was so tranquil and soothing for the soul. The quaint cottage was a perfect size for a few days unconnected from the city life. The front screened in porch is everything! Sitting there reading a book, listening to the wildlife with a calm breeze was amazing. Canoeing down the river and around the huge lake was a perfect end to each day. The outdoor shower was so clean and easy to use. Host was very accommodating and communicated very well. Thank you for a great much needed quiet vacation!

Quiet & Relaxing get away
Really enjoyed our stay at this cabin, perfect spot hidden away in the forest in Northern Ontario. Enjoyed reading and a coffee in the sun room overlooking the forest. Sleeping in the loft was wonderful. Did some fishing off the dock and in the canoe. Swimming in the river was great, nice to jump off the dock and be in deep water. Outdoor shower was a very unique, great view and pressure 😊. Enjoyed the distance between the cabin and the water, perfect little walk down in the morning. Enjoyed a morning at the Crystal Cave near by, but otherwise was happy to spend the whole time at this place. Felt very welcomed and would love to go back.

We very much enjoyed our stay — excellent hosts! The place itself is very clean and just what we needed for a getaway from the city— no wasted space, everything we needed and a cozy screened in porch on the back which we loved spending time in at the end of the day! The water was a short walk away and we used both the canoe and paddle boat to explore the river and lake :) We didn’t want to leave!!

Craig and Nancy's cabin is all you want for a perfect getaway. I was there with my friends while doing a road trip across Canada and it definitely was the best part of it. Their cabin is in the middle of the forest, with a screen room that works as a chill out zone and it has a magic path that drives you towards their lake. They also provided canoes, kayaks and a paddle boat for us. And don't worry about not having a bathroom! There's a latrine and a handle that works as a shower. Do not hesitate to go there. Highly recommended :)

Craig and Nancy’s cottage was perfect for a couple nights away from the city. It came with all the basics. There is no running water (as stated in the listing) but they left plenty of water for us to use and the outhouse was very clean and not smelly at all :) the waterfront is beautiful!! Overall a wonderful, relaxing place to stay.

First of all, Nancy and Craig were very accommodating and excellent hosts. They were extremely helpful and they responded to all of my questions quickly and thoroughly. The accommodations were simple but very clean and accurate to the description provided. I was a little hesitant to book a place without running water and with an outhouse, but I have to say it exceeded my expectations. The outhouse was as good as I can imagine an outhouse being. The water wasn't a problem as they had a lever tap with jugs of water under a sink so you could get water when you needed in the house and also wash dishes. Cooking was done on a BBQ and we brought a convection hot plate, which was perfect for the setup. The cottage itself was located about 10 min from Burk's Falls and you felt like you were in the woods. It was a nice escape. There is one other house within sight of this property (also owned by family members of Craig and Nancy) and you have to walk through their property to get to the lovely lakefront area where you can paddle boat, swim, jump off the dock, sunbathe and canoe. No one was at this house while we were there and so it was extremely secluded. We only saw two people the entire four days we were there - and they were in a boat drifting by the dock from up river. All in all we had an excellent time and would highly recommend it to those who like a little adventure in their lives, but still like some amenities.

I couldn't have asked for a better get away. Our trip to Burk Falls was unforgettable, the cottage is amazing and is a lot bigger than i had expected. The beds were super comfortable, my boyfriend and I had one of the best sleeps we have had in months!! Even though the cabin is hidden in the woods, the bugs were not that bad and the cottage is self was very clean. They had practically everything we needed in the cottage, so we didnt need to bring half the things we did. All in all the cottage is 10 out of 10, We will defiantly be returning in the fall. Thank you Nancy and Craig !

This is the perfect place to get away. Two couples and 2 dogs who all had a lovely time. The dogs smelled all the smells. We had fun in the river and the cottage was a perfect space. Roomy and cool even in the hottest weather. I highly recommend getting away for a while.

The cabin was amazing! Love the nature out there. It's small but very cozy. Plenty of sleeping space. There was four of us and we we're comfortable the whole time. Once it's warm during the day the cabin is fine. We did have a fire inside to warm the cabin up then it stayed warm the whole night. I would strongly recommend if you're looking to get away from the city life. Thanks Nancy and Craig !

Great people to deal with. It is a very private place in the woods. The place has unique features like the outside shower room, and the loft area which has some beds to sleep. There is also a bedroom on the main floor with a comfy double or queen bed not sure bitit had lots of space for my boyfriend and I. I will definitely visit again in the future

A little piece of heaven if you are looking to escape from the stresses of everyday at a fairly isolated location. My expectations were exceeded, especially with the new spa-like outdoor shower - OMG, I could have (and might have ;) ) taken 10 showers a day! Beds were super comfortable, kitchenette, sitting area, back porch, propane bbq and fire pit (bring your own wood) were all outfitted nicely. Access, past the main cottage, to the small beach/dock on the riverfront was lovely (mosquito spray a must in July!), canoeing up to falls and over to/around Pickerel Lake was most enjoyable. My biggest concern of bathroom facilities were quickly eliminated with a clean, well-lit/supplied outhouse steps down the hill from the cottage. Hosts were top-notch - friendly, giving quick responses and resolutions to any issues. I would recommend this place to my family/friends and anyone looking for time away alone or with a few friends (most comfortable for 4 or less).

6/10 Okay

Cute Spot for an Outdoorsy Couple.
My partner and I had a nice time, we are outdoorsy people, but found the bathroom situation a little too rugged for our preferences, leaving us to frequent the Tim Horton 15 minutes away, not the end of the world, but inconvenient. The water is shallow and didn't seem too swim-able, but you can canoe to a small beach or area with deeper water, we were a bit disappointed as we were hoping to be able to swim off the dock. Cottage is small but fits a couple perfectly and we very clean. The outdoor shower was great and probably our highlight, but keep in mind you cannot use traditional soap (for ladies with long hair I'd suggest a leave in conditioner of sorts). Lots of things to do if you don't mind driving. Hosts were very kind, overall stay was different, but enjoyable.

Hello! We are Craig and Nancy. We built this cabin 32 years ago. It has been an extension to our family cottage which is located on the neighbouring property. Both properties are available together when larger groups rent. The cottage properties are a place of love, laughter and relaxation. We are thrilled to be able to share it with families who will enjoy them respectfully.
