July Hilltop Stay
Kids had a great time in the water. Between the kayak, SUP and canoe, plus the 7-person raft we brought, there was plenty of water time/activity.

We loved our time in Waldoboro. The description was accurate, the host was very available, the kitchen was well stocked, the lake just gorgeous. A perfect spot for a very hot week.

Excellent property and location
Our trip was built around enjoying the Maine country side and reconnecting with family. This location was perfect for our purposes. We hiked, shopped and toured with ease. Hurricane Lee provided excitement and a power outage. The property has a generator which kicked in immediately and kept the lights on and us in operation. We would highly recommend this location. We will be back!

Perfect location
The house was beautiful and just the right size for the 6 of us. Plenty of rooms to get away if you want some space but large enough to all hang together. Also, perfectly located for everything we wanted to explore.

Very nice base for Mid-Coast Maine
The property is a big house with three bedrooms, multiple living rooms, screened-in porch, two full bathrooms, and a two-car garage (with a low, six-foot clearance). It's set back about 50 yards from Medomak Pond. The property is loaded with very useful amenities: a single and double kayak, a paddle board, adult life jackets a fully stocked kitchen, a million board games, and so on. The location is also pretty good because you're 15 minutes by car from one of the best, most child-friendly lakes/beaches in Maine, Damariscotta Lake State Park. It's also half an hour to Rockland and the great little museums there. So there's lots to do on sunny or rainy days. The downside, which you have to accept if you're living on a pond, is that you aren't in the thick of things. You come here because you want to be on a pond part of the time and enjoy that. And the pond is fine, but it is a pond and there's a busy road on the far side that is hidden behind trees but which you hear pretty clearly. But it's a nice place for paddle around for an hour, a drink on the pier at sunset, and a barbecue. It probably makes the most sense for a big group because you can sleep six and has tons of space. A note on the sheets: They are provided but you have to return them washed, dried, and folded before the 10 am check out. There is a front loading washer/dryer, so if you don't bring your own, you just have to be up by 7:30 or so and do a load before leaving. Not a big deal.

Ideal Maine Lake Experience
After experiencing many Maine vacation rentals, this one ranks as the best all around - comfortable, spacious, and well-equipped. To our delight and as foodies, we appreciated the pasta pot with built-in strainer, rolling pin, lobster pot, and other equipment. We loved the two large common rooms and the screened in porch. Lake Medomak met our preference for a smaller, user friendly lake. We enjoyed the kayaks and swimming. Appearances of a bald eagle, wild turkeys, loons, hawks, and yes, a black bear, made the stay even more memorable. While it may seem insignificant, we all noticed how cold and pure water came out of the tap! Although in a rural area, many attractions and conveniences are within an easy drive. The owner made every step of the rental process seamless and quickly responded to any concerns. I hope to return next year. Thank you!

Picture Perfect!!
This lake house was amazing! The home is spacious, clean and so comfy. Every imaginable amenity is provided from a paddle board and kayaks, lawn games, board games, fully stocked kitchen and even a giant lobster pot with crackers and picks!! It was quite hot and humid during our stay but having ceiling fans in every room plus a number of box fans made it very tolerable. The house is a minute walk from the lake which is partially visible from the house. Hanging out on the screened in porch with coffee or an adult beverage was a favorite activity. Don't hesitate to book this property!

Lovely retreat in the woods
Very quiet and remote feeling home. The wifi is not strong enough to handle the needs of a family used to doing work meetings, downloading movies or surfing the web. Important to know if you have an emergency meeting that you have to join - can go to nearby spots with free wifi…. Great if you are looking to get away from such modern annoyances.

Barebones house in a beautiful location
We very much enjoyed our stay at this VRBO. We stayed in the middle of a heatwave and the fans kept us cool on the gorgeous lake. The lake was shallow and warm enough that our two year old had a blast in it as well. We took advantage of the proximity to adorable coastal Maine towns and local restaurants. However, I have to mention that this house is extremely bare bones. The owner insists that you wash, dry and fold any linens you borrow or use. We flew to Maine so we couldn’t pack all of our linens, and were charged 80 dollars extra because we had some still drying (rather than folding them half wet) for our 10 am checkout. There was also no food (or butter, oil), toilet paper, paper towels, etc. There wasn’t soap or dishwasher detergent - we bought that too. Again, because we flew, we bought everything. At the end of our stay, we were charged extra for not throwing away some of the food (Mayo for example) in the the fridge when we left. Something to keep in mind if you’re not planning on packing everything you need or throwing it out.

Perfect week at Medomak Pond
We had a wonderful and relaxing week at Hilltop House. Lots of room to spread out. The house was very clean and well equipped. The pond was gorgeous - we kayaked, fished, swam and spent long hours reading and sunning ourselves on the small pier. No one was in the little cottage so it was very quiet and private. Great weather too! Host was very responsive and did her utmost to accommodate us.

As I shared with the owner- Hit on every note. We've been visiting this area for the past 20 years or so and have enjoyed some amazing venues. Typically, we like to stay coastal- on the water. The most important trait we search for when deciding on where to stay. We'd ventured up the hill and noticed so much fresh water in the past, but never strayed away from the salt in the past. Figured we'd give it a shot- And Wow! So happy we did. Tucked up in the woods but with an inviting view of the pond was just so comfortable. Remote and private enough to feel happily isolated and away from any bustle. However, convenient for any possible amenity you could need. And, visiting the coast was easy and we did so almost daily. The pond served us well too. Swimming, fishing and watercrafting was daily fun for all. Thanks for the resident pair of loons for providing such a different soundtrack for the week. The home has everything you'll need. Well appointed with a terrific mix of rustic, cabin comfort and modern appliances. The mountain air and perfect weather provided the perfect atmosphere with breezes blowing through all the windows. Didn't need to use the air, but the ceiling fans on the second floor for the kids needed to be employed. Will definately look to visit this property again.

Lovely House & Location
We enjoyed our stay! The house was super clean and had everything we needed. It was also quiet and relaxing sitting in the middle of nature. The location was great as we weren’t far from Rockland, Camden, and other places to do some exploring. It was disappointing that there wasn’t a clear view of the water from the house. Too many trees in the way. We also would have loved a seating area down by the water. But other than that, we enjoyed our stay.

Peaceful, beautiful Medomak Pond
We just returned from a wonderful week in Maine at Deirdre's home. This home is very well thought out, and well taken care of. We enjoyed the central location and the ease of getting around Midcoast Maine. The house has ample space for 6 adults to spread out when needed. The pond was absolutely wonderful, and the bonus of being provided kayaks was great. I cannot think of a single thing that should be changed.

Wonderful!
The house was set in a beautiful area. Great get away from the city! It was clean and spacious.. The check in process was made very easy as the property manager was great about responding to communications and the booklet/ instructions that came with the house was very helpful. The house is about 35 minutes away from Camden and the beaches, which was such a treat! We took daily trips to those areas. Conveniently there is a supermarket about 15 minutes away. Loved our stay!!

About the host

Hosted by Deirdre

Host profile image
I purchased this from the long-time original owners, as my future summer retirement home, and I'm enjoying improving the property and sharing it with summer visitors to Midcoast Maine. I spend many weeks here in the off-season working on the houses and the grounds.

Why they chose this property

Privacy - on 12 acres, on a private road, surrounded by woods on three sides and the lake on the west, allowing for fantastic sunsets over the water.
Lakefront - Medomak Pond is the perfect size, big enough to swim, kayak and fish for hours, but too small for noisy power boats.
Location - between Boothbay Harbor and Camden, within an easy drive of dozens of great attractions and the ocean.

What makes this property unique

This is a true year-round home, not purely a rental property, so the kitchen is fully furnished with all the gear needed for "real" cooking. There are multiple indoor and outdoor spaces for either hanging out together or getting some "alone" time. And after a day of touring bustling harborfronts, it's relaxing to return to a quiet spot surrounded by shady woods and wildlife.
