Excellent!
Our stay was fantastic! The cottage was so cozy and clean. There was plenty of space to eat and cook if you want. I was impressed by the location and how convenient the restaurants and grocery stores were. There are an abundance of things to do like Downtown San Diego, the Zoo, and Balboa park. I would recommend this cottage to anyone visiting San Diego.

A magical place
Dorothy's place was absolutely wonderful. It was out first time in San Diego. We had three generations in the house for a wedding. Everything we could possibly need was in the house. If we forgot something at the store or at home we ended up finding it there. The house was in a beautiful location, clean, and comfortable for our 4 adults and two children. Kitchen had everything you needed and bathrooms were clean. The house was very charming. We hope to visit again and plan to stay at the cottage again. Thank you!!

Spacious home in a great location
We loved our week stay at Dorothy's cottage for our family of 5. The home is really spacious, which suited our teenagers well, and it was the perfect location for exploring San Diego and its amazing beaches.

We loved the location. Walkable to restaurants and a toddler playground. Five minute drive to the zoo. Hosts had excellent recommendations. Two full bathrooms were great. AC split for living room/kitchen. Fans for bedrooms. All one floor. Great for toddler. Had books and board games.

Great Cottage in a Cute Neighborhood
We enjoyed our stay at this cute cottage. Centrally located in a historical neighborhood, with great restaurants nearby, we explored San Diego with most destinations being just a short drive. Really comfortable beds, well supplied kitchen, nice outside space. Would definitely stay here again. Five stars!

the home was a wonderful remembrance for us growing up. we ended up spending more time in the home then venturing out since the kitchen was so accommodating. we sat and ate meals together at the dining room table just as we did when we were kids, sharing stories about mom and dad and of course each other. the house was very comfortable, the beds amazing! would definitely return to this home if ever back in south park.

Wonderful cottage near Balboa Park
This cottage exceeded our expectations. A wonderful historic home that has been updated. Our party of 3 adults and 1 child had plenty of room to relax after taking in a day of activities. Great to have a deck and backyard to enjoy. Would stay here again for sure!!

Truly an Urban Cottage
This was one of the nicest places we have stayed. My first question is always neighborhood- safe? This is in an awesome location! It is safe, it is walkable, it is in within 4 miles of the airport, downtown and Petco Park. I would stay here again! There are local shops and restaurants all around. We had coffee at Communal Coffee (my husband's favorite), Madeline's (My favorite- pastries are to die for!) and Seven Seas (they make all their own syrups!). We ate at a few local places, too. Try Curryosity if you like Indian. Excellent Fusion! The home had so many towels. The kitchen well stocked- I made some breakfasts and cooked all day Sunday. They were no negatives other than the plane noise bothered my husband a tad (I slept right thru it). Bring shampoo. Other than that- get ready for an awesome vacation! Thank you, Dorothy!

Great space!
Everything you needed to make it an easy stay - washer/dryer, plenty of clean towels, coffee, blankets, utensils, pots & pans, books, access to Apple TV, etc... Space was very large, but very cozy in decoration. Great for a family! Loved our stay and would stay here again when visiting!

Fantastic stay in South Park!
We had a wonderful stay at Dorothy's cottage with our three kids (ages 8, 6 and 3)! The cottage was exactly as advertised and located in a quaint, safe neighborhood. The cottage was very clean and had plenty of extras such as books and games for the kids. We loved watching the birds from the deck and enjoying the outdoor space. The area is very walkable with little shops and eateries nearby. We loved the proximity to Balboa Park and downtown. There was a playground for the kids only a couple blocks from the cottage. Dorothy was also very easy to communicate with. We definitely hope to stay here again when we return to San Diego!

San Diego getaway
This was our familie's first San Diego experience. Our hosts, Dorothy and Jerry, had made their home feel like ours. I was in contact with Dorothy prior to arrival due to recent severe weather and she kept me informed which kept my anxiety down. Beautiful home with great attention to detail. Our boys loved their stay especially fire in the evening to picking fresh oranges in the back yard. Thank you Dorothy and Jerry! Look forward to our next visit Kummer Family

Lovely Cottage
Comfortable and attractive cottage. Everything we needed and located in a great area. Easy driving to the attractions we wanted to see. Lovely backyard that our 6-year-old grandson enjoyed. The owner was extremely helpful and easy to contact. Would stay again!

Beautiful cozy home with a great location
We stayed for five nights at Dorothy's sweet home located in the Balboa Park area of San Diego. The home was immaculate with very nice furniture and amenities. It was perfect for two couples, having two bedrooms and bathrooms. The kitchen was equipped with everything you'd need to prepare and serve meals. The backyard has a nice deck and we enjoyed breakfast on the outdoor table. There are mature fruit trees and we wished that the Fuyu tree's fruit was ready to pick, but we were just a little too early in enjoy that pleasure! Dorothy included a list of restaurants with our home information. It included cafes and stores within walking distance and other places which could be reached by car in a short amount of time. We enjoyed walking "the hood" and seeing a bounty of historic homes. It was a short drive to the Zoo and other attractions of San Diego. We did a food tour of "Little Italy" which was fabulous and once again, a short drive to the area. The home is located within the fly zone of the airport, but it was easy to not be disturbed by the flights as the airport is located near city center and not in the hinterlands like some areas. Communicating with Dorothy was also easy and she was very helpful and pleasant. We would certainly stay at Dorothy's home in the future!

This was our third year back to the Urban Cottage as a family of four and it was as wonderful as every other trip. First Experience
This was our first experience using VRBO. We were a little nervous not knowing what to expect. The house and yard were fantastic. Our kids were able to run around outside and enjoy not being cooped up in a hotel. The property owners were very helpful and had many amenities available for our use during our stay. If we needed anything we were able to contact them anytime. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again if we find ourselves visiting the area.

Perfect!
Lovely home which looks JUST like the pictures. Wonderful little backyard and deck. Many fun and lovely touches in the decor as well. Dorothy, the owner, was extremely accessible. House was well-stocked. Safe, quiet neighborhood, perfectly located. Close to Balboa Park, downtown and so on. Beds get an "A" grade, too!

Amazing Sandiego Vacation
This Southpark gem is amazing. Location is safe and conveniently located. Very family friendly and in walking distance to many restaurants and stores. The house was all we could have wanted! Laid out well, clean and fully stocked. The owner was so great to communicate with and very responsive. Would stay here again and would totally recommend to anyone looking for a fantastic rental.

Perfect Location
Our family enjoyed a lovely week long stay at the urban cottage. Perfect location for traveling with little kids. We were able to spend time at the zoo, beach, as well as local restaurants and shops with minimal travel time. Dorothy offers a clean and lovely home filled with all of the essentials. South Park Heaven
Exactly as advertised; clean, all the amenities and perfectly located; quiet neighborhood close to stores, restaurants, Balboa Park, Coronado island, and the beaches. Everything was within 15’. Multiple charming restaurants and cafes within walking distance. We loved the cottage and it was perfect for two adults and two teenagers. Dorothy was available when we needed her and quick to respond to questions. We would definitely stay here again!

My husband and I are retired civil engineer, and educator, now artist. We have traveled China, Nepal, Lhasa, France, England, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Tangiers, Thailand, Cambodia, and most of the National Parks in the USA. My husband is a mountain climber and has climbed over 50 Sierra peaks including several in Yosemite. I read to Senior Centers Without Walls via a conference call. I also do art, and have a bronze piece (Junior Birdman) in the Air and Space Museum in Balboa Park. We are a long way from our roots which are in South Dakota, Indiana, and Montana. !!!

Why they chose this property

My husband's family moved from South Dakota to this San Diego home which we inherited. In 2014, it survived a fire which resulted in a fun total renovation. We love the persimmon tree which offers shade over the deck and abundantly produces fruit in October and November. Our father planted that tree 40 years ago. He also planted the sweetest naval orange tree whose fruit ripens in December through February.

What makes this property unique

In the soft San Diego evenings, you will love to sit in the glider on the back deck to watch the sun set over the palm trees. If you are a winter guest, you may enjoy the Persimmons and Naval and Mandarin oranges in the back yard, or a cozy fire in the living room. The flag on the desk in the living room is from our father's service in the Seabees during WWII. He served on Kwajalein Atoll in the South Pacific. Legend has it that the house served servicemen in another way. After our parents purchased the house, several return "guests" knocked on the door requesting "Evelyn". We think she was a great patriot!

Infrequently, guests have mentioned air traffic noise, but it does not bother most travelers. A white noise machine is available for the most sensitive.
