About this property

Luxury Cabin, Glamping Barn & Tipi, 1/3 mi creek, trout pond & swimming hole

Staying at The Roberta Barr is a one of a kind Colorado experience. Inside & out it is rustic perfection. Rentals are on a very limited basis.

The property is named for the woman who lived here for 75 years & who was an important figure in the Durango community. The Roberta Barr has been renown throughout the Animas River Valley for many years.

The Roberta Barr includes a beautifully restored historic 1930s log cabin with king bed, glamping Honey House barn with hanging king bed & two twin loft beds & comfy Sioux tepee with queen bed. The cabin is furnished with the utmost regard to quality, taste & detail.

The 8 acre park like setting includes beautiful manicured & natural areas. The property is bordered by 1/3 mile of the Hermosa Creek & boasts a good sized trout pond. The property also has a large clear water natural swimming hole. There are over 120 fruit trees throughout the property including cherry, apple, pear, peach, plum, apricot & a large raspberry patch.

Owners Alice & Eric Foultz are long-time 2nd homeowners in Durango. During bicycle rides they would visit with Roberta, who in her late 90's would sit on her front porch & say hello to those walking or biking past her amazing historic rose & perennial flower gardens. Sensing how special this property was naturally & emotionally to those in the community, Alice & Eric purchased the property in 2014 making a commitment to restore it to Roberta's former glory & beyond.

The Cabin was not just remodeled but it has been taken to the highest end of luxury & comfort. The historic structure remains intact, but the the interior has been remodeled & decorated by highly acclaimed architect & interior designer.

Roberta's rose & perennial flower gardens have been considered the finest in the Animas Valley & we work hard to maintain & exceed her standard.

The Roberta Barr is ideally located 10 miles north of Durango's Historic District & 15 miles south of the Purgatory Ski area.

The village of Hermosa is walking distance & includes a restaurant, convenience store & liquor store.

Just 2 miles from the property is PJ's Gourmet Market, Dalton Ranch Golf Club & Durango Hot Springs & Spa. James Ranch Grill & Farm to Table Market is only 1 mile away.

Amazing property
We stayed here with our 4 kids (8 and younger). It’s such a special place with great accommodations. The property is amazingly well kept by Eric and his wife. They were great hosts and helped us with anything we needed! We caught fish, swam in their pond and picked fresh fruit which we all loved! We hated to leave and can’t wait to come back!

Slice of paradise!
Amazing property with running streams and waterfalls, orchards, Kentucky Bluegrass lawns, wildlife, flower gardens and forests. The cabin is lovely for two people. The Honey House was charming. The owners Wemdy above and beyond at every turn. Peaceful, beautiful sanctuary. We hardly ever left the property. Highly recommend. One of a kind!

Highly Recommend!
Our family of five including three boys ages 14, 12 and 8 loved every second of this vacation. The property was amazing. Pictures didn't do it justice. The owners were very accommodating and made us feel at home from the minute we arrived. Hope we can make it back there again!

Joshua Cabin
Absolutely amazing cabin! It was the look and feel of an old log cabin nestled in the mountains next to a babbling brook, but nothing was old once you entered. I have literally stayed in dozens of cabins over the years and this was by far the most exquisite inside. From the decorations to the fixtures used, everything has been chosen to flow together. It was the perfect cabin for our honeymoon and I would totaly recommend this for anyone wanting a quiet, excluded, and romantic get-away!

Perfect Holiday
We spent a week at this magnificent property and can't wait to return. The cabin was sparkling clean and appointed with the best of everything. We enjoyed the fabulous welcome basket for dinner on our arrival. We awoke to the babbling brook every morning and the scenery and appliances were so wonderful we made dinner every night and stayed in after hiking at nearby parks and trails. The Teepee was a special treat! Eric and Alice are terrific! We loved picking fresh fruit with them.

Better Than You Can Imagine
The pictures look great but I can't begin to tell you how blown away we were by this property when we arrived and saw it in person. The grounds are like you have been dropped into a fairy tail, multiple brooks/streams, beautiful green grass with wildflower areas, trout pond stocked with large trout that have rarely been fished, easy access to the Hermosa Creek and a beautiful natural looking but man made swimming hole. Our kids thought they had died and gone to heaven. Overall could not have asked for a better getaway for our family. Eric and Alice were also available daily if we needed anything and were great with info about places to eat or things to do in the area, could not have been better host.

Magical
To say that the Roberta Barr and Honey House property are magical is an understatement. This property is beautiful and has so much to offer. My husband, son, dog and I got to spend a week and cannot wait to go back. We fished and played in the river that ran at the edge of the property. We swam in the swim hole. We fished in the trout pond. We picked fruit in the orchard. This just mentions everything outside but the actual structures on the property are so wonderful. Comfortable, clean, and unique. I would be remise to not mention Eric and Alice, the property owners. They are so pleasant and made sure that we had everything we needed. I would highly suggest this property and area of Colorado. It was a vacation that we will never forget and a property that we cannot wait to visit again!

Stunning!
This property is even more spectacular than the site advertises and our family had a wonderful vacation, admiring the orchards, foliage, streams/river and mountains. Eric and Alice were fantastic hosts and we hope to return to this beautiful and very clean property soon. Thanks to you both for a memorable stay. Karen

Exceptional stay
This property was absolutely incredible. The owners were so kind, hospitable, and thoughtful. We were so comfortable that we abandoned some plans that we had made just so we could spend more time at this special place. The grounds are amazingly kept and so inviting. I hope that we get to stay here again someday.

A full week of beauty and relaxation!
We spent a week at this beautiful property! We walked into the most comforting cabin with the sweetest welcome basket from Eric and Alice. I can't say enough about the special touches all over the property. Perfectly placed chairs by the stream with a fire pit, walking trails, orchards where you could pick fresh fruit, and I could go on and on. It was so relaxing that we had a tough time leaving! Thank you for sharing such a beautiful, unique place. We hope to return again next year.

Best VRBO we have ever stayed at hands down!
This place deserves more than 5 stars. Not only are Eric and Alice amazing, the property is a destination in and of itself. The grounds are immaculate with manicured Kentucky blue grass that feels incredible under your feet and the relaxing sound of running water from multiple creeks. Our kids loved waking and running to the orchards to pick peaches and summer apples right off the trees. The main cabin and honey house are so tasteful and thoughtfully decorated with luxurious amenities and fine quality linens. Having stayed here, we now plan to make this an annual retreat for our family. Thanks again Eric and Alice!

Family road trip
My wife and I spent 4 days here with our 2 boys. The property is absolutely impeccable, both inside and out. There are high end furniture, linens and kitchen supplies on the interior and the landscaping is pristine. The orchard, pond, streams, hiking path, gardens and tipi really take this property to another level. The owners were super friendly and helpful. The tremendous effort and thought they have put into every detail really shines.

The perfect getaway
We absolutely loved the Roberta Barr property! The owners, Eric and Alice spared no expense. We loved the artwork, decor and super comfy beds, all of it making us feel like we were at a luxurious resort. However the most amazing part of our stay was the property itself. Pristine grass, wildflowers, Fruit trees, raspberries picking, brooks, walking paths, the pond, SUP, fishing, I could go on. We loved it all!

Beautiful Stay on Hermosa Creek
We spent five nights of a family escape just enjoying the grounds, fishing, and taking day trips to the mountains. One of the most unique and perfect properties we've visited. Thanks to Eric and Alice, and to groundskeeper Aaron. We'll be back.

A magical place!
We had an amazing stay at the Roberta Barr. We didn't want to leave! It's a beautiful property, with lush orchards and gardens, creeks, a trout pond, walking paths, and beautiful art sculptures. The online pictures are accurate but we found the Roberta Barr to be an experience that is hard to capture in a photo - it's just so magical. The cabin and honey house are both beautifully decorated. The Joshua cabin is elegant, cozy and welcoming all at the same time. Honey House is charming and bright and has really cool decor. We appreciated the comfy beds, well appointed kitchen, and that the master bath had both a tub and shower. We cooked a few meals on the Green Egg and also had fun exploring restaurants in town (~10-15 minute drive). We all had fun fishing in the trout pond, exploring the property, sitting by the creek, taking walks in the surrounding area, and soaking up the views. Eric and Alice were incredibly gracious hosts - welcoming and warm. They gave us a tour of the property and invited us to pick fruit from the orchard trees and raspberry bushes. We ate delicious cherries, apricots, and raspberries during our stay. The location was perfect for us - a short drive to town, nearby Havilland Lake, and the Purgatory resort area. We stay at many vacation rentals and this is in our top 3 - a true 5 star experience. The Roberta Barr is a really special place and we can't wait to plan a trip back!

Beautiful!
When your 14 old year son stands there quietly, not knowing I was watching, staring at the lake, the stream the trees..taking it all in and says "it's so pretty here". Enough said.

Perfect 40th Birthday!
What a cozy little cabin with updated amenities on a quiet street just outside of Durango. Toured around town and also did some great hikes/trail runs on The Colorado Trail starting at Molas Pass. The trout stream/pond were incredible, just behind the house. My husband caught our dinner both nights while I sat nearby with a good book. Heaven, without our kids!

Perfect combo of charm and luxury
The cabin is adorable and done to perfection. Super cozy and everything is new and convenient. I am a complete hotel snob and this cabin did not disappoint. The ONLY thing I can mention is the sprinklers are on constantly but that's what makes it so beautiful and green. The property is beautifully kept... The bed is comfortable, and they truly have thought of everything for your comfort. There's the Hermosa Creek Grill in walking distance for amazing breakfasts. We loved it and will return!!

Tranquil, authentic and beautiful
It is hard to imagine a more perfect escape than the Joshua cabin at the Roberta Barr property on Hermosa Creek outside of Durango. The sound of the creek and irrigation runnels is heaven. The property is gorgeous with trails through flower gardens, native grasses, orchards, pines and oaks. The cabin itself is authentic, luxurious and serene with thoughtful, quality finishes and detailing. Hiking trails nearby and walks down the country road were fun and beautiful. Our gracious and generous hosts Alice and Eric provided useful information about local restaurants and activities. We couldn't have asked for a better week and don't want to leave!
