Overall the cabin was decent and it was convenient to have a fenced in yard. Things of concern with a one year old: there are stairs down to a basement (not in the listing) that had a loose makeshift gate and the railing of the deck was loose. Really couldn't beat the view.
The house was well maintained, a few bugs but what else do you expect in the wood so we were not turned off by it! The views were AMAZING! We went out there with our pup to escape the firework noise and we did just that yet could still see the several shows down below! Close enough to several hikes. The master bed does have some broken springs so a little uncomfortable on one side. The house stayed cool enough during the heat! The yard was amazing and our dog loved it. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!
Great access to trails, sunrise was beautiful over Shenandoah. Comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, nice fenced yard--will have to bring the pup next time!
My husband & I rented this property for his birthday weekend in late November 2022. We picked this cabin over others in the area because of the fenced in yard (for our dog) & the advertised view from the deck. This cabin was very cozy, the view AMAZING, but the cleanliness of the cabin could have been better. I spent 1.5 hours on our first night attempting to scrub clean the shower floor in the master bedroom which was a grey/black color. (I didn’t have appropriate cleaning supplies to give it the true cleaning it needed) It looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. We also brought a portable vacuum in which I used to vacuum up dead bugs throughout the cabin. Based off previous reviews I was expecting to walk into an extremely dated & VERY unclean cabin. It wasn’t as bad as I thought. The cabin could use some upgrades, additional cleaning, but overall very cozy & comfortable. The fenced in yard was HUGE for us as we like being able to bring our dog with us. Our dog loved the yard and enjoyed running around in it at all hours of the day/night. I contacted management in regards to the cleanliness & they were responsive & offered a small refund for this issue. Overall, I would recommend this cabin as the view, closeness to trails & overall secluded feel of the cabin was worth it. They also warn of losing cell service, but at the cabin itself I had service without issue. (I have Verizon). It is also requested you clean up after leaving so a vacuum & additional cleaning supplies would have been nice. (I had brought my own based off reviews). The kitchen was sufficiently stocked for the cooking needs of my husband & I, but if you’re preparing larger meals you may want to consider bringing additional baking trays/pans, etc. Overall, we enjoyed our stay & loved the view/property. This property is one of the few with a full fenced in yard so if you’re a pet owner this is a MAJOR bonus.
If you want to hole up in a cabin and cook your own meals, this is the place for you! Great view! Quiet and peaceful.
If you want to go see the sights and sounds around the valley below, drink and dine out, and stay out late, this is not the place for you. Really narrow rocky road that winds up the mountain. Not sure what we would have done if another vehicle was coming up when we were coming down or vice versa.
We stayed for a quick weekend getaway, the view on the deck was worth every penny. We appreciated the gated road, felt much safer that way. The bolt on the front door does not lock and the porch wood is getting a little dated as creaky. But besides that we had a wonderful time! The house was clean and exactly what we expected. We will definitely be visiting again.
All in all, this was a great place for us (one couple and a guest from DC) to hang out and to use as a base camp to hike and to visit Luray, the National Park and the State Park/Shenandoah River. The ample view from the deck and the options for indoor and outdoor spaces to relax in were wonderful! One bonus for hikers is the location about 1/4 mile (walking distance) from the Kennedy Peak trail head. The property and house were comfortable, relatively secluded, and roomy. The main bedroom is spacious and has a convenient door to the side deck as well as a nice sky-light in its bathroom. That said, a bit more attention to property maintenance, i.e. to sliding screens, weeding/lawn care, repair of some electrical outlets would have been welcome. (Provision of a cutting board and/or cushions for the outdoor chairs were little things that would have made our stay even more comfortable.) Based on the Host's description we brought our own towels and linens. Turned out there were 3 bath towels and 1 dish towel there, but it's not clear if guests can count on those. We were already packed heavy with coolers, a dog and lots of food and supplies; had we been passing through the area (vs. coming from home) or staying only a night or two, supplying the linens/towels might have been a dealbreaker. The smaller bedroom did not have an A/C unit; but we weren't using that room, so it was not an issue for our late summer stay. We were unable to get the D/W to operate, but maybe we were missing something. The main view is directly east, so there is heat gain through mid-day on the deck and screened porch. We were able to find one portable fan that worked; we brought an extension cord so we could use the fan to cool the screened porch. The house has a basement with a constantly running device which we presumed to be a dehumidifier; this was not a negative issue for us, but if you have children they may be tempted to get past the baby/pet gate and go down to investigate.
Property has a great view across the mountains and well kept. Outlets in living area did not work. Could have been a blown fuse or something, but that did not hinder us from fun. Missed reading there were no linens so had to go buy sheets. Only 15 min into town so it was convenient to surrounding activities.

The background view of the property was gorgeous. Overall, the interior cleanliness was good, except for the corner bedroom. The corner bedroom had bugs on the blanket and bugs on the bed itself. We weren’t able to use that bedroom due to the bugs. Some of the window blinds could’ve been replaced, the blinds in the master bedroom were broken and I had to find sheets to cover up the door to prevent exposure from the inside out. The grass wasn’t cut either, the property didn’t look it’s best. But overall, it was a good place to get away for a quick weekend.
This place is perfect for a quiet retreat. I'll be back!
Facts to know:
- House faces east; sunrise is amazing
- Solid voice and data connection with t-mobile
- Super quiet with very little light pollution
- Closest house is just beyond yard, but hidden by trees
- Furniture is comfy and modern
- Kitchen well-equipped
So the other reviews are offputting. Based on those, I brought cleaning supplies and utensils and lightbulbs, lol. Obviously, that is not a bad choice anyway, but the house had everything we needed. I don't dig plug-in air fresheners, so we put all of those under the sink.
It is a cabin in the woods with a spectacular view. We watched a lightning storm one night, the man on the moon emerge another, and then, we awoke in the clouds. The community is gated (chain-link gate?) so it is private and the neighbors keep it that way. That is great for social distancing! Walking two little dogs up and down the private road was a 1.5-mile walk where we saw no one (but we did see bear scat!). The yard is completely and thoughtfully fenced in. There was even a log that fits under a gap where the fence opens (a gate). I dragged it over and even a crafty 11-pound guy couldn't get out! I am so grateful for this. The pups had as much fun playing in the yard as my daughter!
The wildlife was lovely: hummingbirds and predatory flying things that caused us to hide the shi tsus. Then, thank goodness for barking, as I loaded the car, I finally saw the scat owner. We kept our distance.
I know you want the dirt on the inside: the beds are not top of the line. But it is a cabin in the woods. If you have to bring sheets, bring a mattress topper too. The air conditioners are fine. It was 85 plus awful humidity and I never felt overheated. There was a dishwasher, microwave, and coffee pot. (and oven!) so what else do you need in the woods? That seems good to me. We brought dvds and a book on tape and enjoyed the view when weren't hiking.
The grocery store was nice and included local and organic. The caverns and maze were fun for my kid- she double masked as only some of the visitors masked at all. We hiked at the trailhead near our private street entrance and saw only two others groups in three hours. (on the weekend the overlook was jammed with non-hiking view seekers and parasailers)(22 cars).
It was a great trip. And the management company, who seems to be new, answered questions before I arrived (we were driving a tropical storm with expected tornados and I was afraid. HE pointed out that it can't flood at the top of the mountain, lol. He was right). Then, I had troubles with the lock- (the numbers align at the top not in the middle) and he was willing to drive up and help me at 9 at night I figured it out.
But he was a help! Enjoy!

Beautiful view but room for improvement
Nice property with a beautiful view. The deck and sunroom were great features to view the sunset and sunrise. Kitchen needs updated utensils, many were falling apart. Beds lacked comfort and were creeky. Many electric outlets did not work. Lights were not labelled and it was difficult to find how to turnoff the lights. When we arrived we had to do some cleaning. If it was cleaned, it had been awhile. We were asked to sweep the floor before we left but the broom, dust pan and vacuum that was provided was inadequate for the job. We did the best we could with what we were given. Great get away for a weekend, but it was too cold for this time of year to spend time outside.
Loved the location! Perfect for our Skyline Drive excursion. Very private, quiet, and "unconnected". We did have cell service (Verizon), so we weren't completely off the grid. The house is showing its age, but very comfortable overall. If you can get the neighbor to lose the motion sensor lights, your future guests will appreciate not having them blinking all night through the MBR windows! We had a lovely visit on the deck by a pair of vultures, but no other visible critters.
Helpful hints - when entering the parking area at the bottom of the hill, stay to the southern corner to avoid the deepest gullies. In the master bath, turn the shower head to the lowest setting before turning the water on (no puddles that way). And the key box is on the fence post to the right of the gate.

Great view but
The view is what brought us there but the house needs a big updating. Many lamps are without bulbs or working bulbs; there is ok living room furniture but no furniture in main bedroom. Lots of cloths etc but inadequate kitchen utensils.
Deck and screened in porch are pluses!
No printed instructions on use of tv and dvds
It is unclear what is front door and where locked box is.
Unclear about water; what does coming from "cistern" mean? There was ample water and hot water. Still, we brought own water.
Good instructions on road chain and door lock.
We have been to so many other places nicer and that influenced our opinion. We left a day early.
House was in a great location. Need more of a description for when you get close to the house. We got in late and everything was pitch black. To get onto the gravel road was a ditch and our car was damaged in the process because of the limited visibility. The gravel road has many forks which made it hard to tell if we should continue driving or not and tons of pot holes. The porch lights did not work. The view was beautiful when we woke up. Although the house could use a deep cleaning the views made it worth it.
The view is fantastic. The property is so elevated that one morning we were looking down at the clouds. I would just make sure to arrive in the daylight the first time you go so that you are familiar with the road.
Awesome stay and amazing location. The view was so beautiful and our dogs loved the yard. The interior is a bit dated, but well kept. The yard and deck need some work/cleaning including needing the grass cut, but overall it was an awesome stay! Be aware - the last bit of the drive is on a private road with a couple rough stops. Didn’t need a 4wheel drive but it would be tricky in bad weather. The road made it very private as it is gated and adjacent to the national forest.
Amazing deck and view. Private is an understatement. There is a neighboring house but hidden by foliage. You feel very secure. It is located on the tip of a mountain ridge, on a private drive secured by gate, the house is completely fenced, and you have a sense of being in a tree house fortress. The view is not done justice by the pictures. The hike to Kennedy peak is very easy and the observation deck is extremely rewarding. The house itself isn't the Taj Mahal, but we spent 95% of our time on the glass porch and deck. Definitely need a truck or Subaru type vehicle to access.
