About this property

Dordogne / Le Cambou / 13th generation family house / 5 bds & a private pool

Located 5km from the fortified town of Monpazier (est. 1289), this house was fully renovated oin 2017 and 2018. The house is within a two-hour drive from either the Bordeaux Airport (Mérignac) or the Toulouse Airport (Blagnac) and at 40 minutes from Bergerac Airport. The area is well know for its several prehistoric sites (Cave of Lascaux, Neanderthal site of Les-Eyzies-de-Tayac, etc.), its abysses (Proumeyssac, Padirac, etc.) and the castles from the Middle Age (Biron - 4km away from the house - , Bonaguil, Castlenaud, Beynac, etc.). It is also the land of duck confit and foie gras notwithstanding the several wineries we can find everywhere.
The land has been in my family for over 350 years. My wife and I are the 13th generation of owners. We bought the house from my uncle and my aunt. Before that, the house has been given from mother to daughter for generations. Rental incomes will hopefully allow my wife and I to maintain the house and donate it to our own children.

Perfect Villa Holiday

From the outset the communication from Christine as the villa manager and Vincent as the owner was timely and friendly. The Villa was spacious, well maintained and cool. It was a blend of traditional French and modern updates. We have spent many years holidaying in different areas and this villa was one of our family favourites. The air conditioning upstairs was a bonus and travelling as a family of 10 we had ample space in the sleeping arrangements. The smallest children (4 and 7) loved the spacious pool, toys and archery set available to play with. The Villa is peaceful but a short 6 minute drive to the popular Monpazier. We ate and drank there a few days and nights. There is plenty to do in the area. We camped down the dordogne, visited heritage sites and bastides and even took the smallest to a local aquarium, complete with anacondas to his delight. We didn’t want to leave after such a wonderful break and personal thanks to Vincent and Christine and her team. Nothing was an issue for them to help us with. Merci!

About the host

Hosted by Vincent Regnault

Host profile image
I work in the energy sector in Canada and my wife is a lawyer and the owner of a law firm where around 20 people work. We both grew up in the Montreal area in Québec and went to scholl there. We have four children (21, 19, 14 and 9 year-old). We are in our forties.

Why they chose this property

This property is a family property. My wife and I are the 13th generation of owners of the land. It has been in my family for more than 350 years. It is a unique place to gather the members of a family. Having a long lunch in the Charms Alley is the most wonderful experience I ever had. It is like in these French movies with long tables under large trees.

What makes this property unique

Our large house with its American kitchen allows group exchanges during the preparation of meals but with its 4 living rooms it also offers moments of intimacy.

In the Dordogne, between 7pm and 9pm, the light is truly hypnotic and soothing. So you can bathe in this light in front of the house whether on the pool steps or on the terrace to enjoy a good wine of the region. This until 10h- 10h30 pm since the Dordogne is in the time zone of continental Europe.
