Rustic off grid experience lakefront with beautiful sunrise view of Schoodic Mtn
The "Point Camp" is a small 16x16 cabin located on the Western shore of Great Pond in Franklin Maine. The camp is perfect for 2 people, but can easily sleep 3-4 with relative comfort. Loft has two twin mattresses, but it can be very warm in the heat of summer. More than 4 would require a tent or camper. Direct access to the Downeast Sunrise Trail. Cabin is ATV friendly. Excellent fishing, canoeing and kayaking. Miles of old logging roads for hiking and walking right outside the door. This Camp has limited hot/cold water for shower and vanity in shower room. NO electricity, no inside toilet. There are gas lights, a gas wall heater, gas stove and gas refrigerator. A hand pump in the kitchen for non-potable water and a natural spring within 300 yards with excellent drinking water. There is a Porta-Potty behind the camp that is serviced weekly. A small changing area with a shower stall & vanity with drain for washing up. There is limited Hot and Cold water for shower and vanity. This is located approximately 12 miles from Ellsworth and 30 miles from Acadia National Park/Bar Harbor. At mile 7.5 on the Downeast Sunrise Trail. We include the use of one canoe and one kayak with paddles and lifevests with the rental. Additional canoes/kayaks can be rented. Use of canoes/kayaks is at guests own risk.

Beautiful setting, very well stocked kitchen made cooking easy and enjoyable. If you enjoy being off the grid without electricity, this is the place for you to get away from it all!
This property had everything we needed! We came for Acadia but this site quickly became a highlight of our trip. We kayaked, made our meals, and stargazed here. The best place to come home to and escape the busyness of Bar Harbor. Commuting to and from Acadia was very easy too. We did the sunrise hike at Cadilaac and the commute was very doable
If you are looking for outdoors and nature than this is for you. Cabin was nice and cozy with everything you need to get by. Wildlife was absolutely amazing. Plenty of Loons around and a few Muskrats. All in all the wildlife and the views are absolutely amazing. Best of all I had almost no service meaning no pesky calls from work! 5 out of 5 would definitely go back again!
Can't say enough wonderful words about Point Camp. Quiet, trails to explore, water to enjoy (our dog loved swimming), lovely dock to watch the sunrise from, cozy cabin with everything you need! Hosts' directions are perfect! Hope to come back next year!
We had a wonderful time! We really only used the cabin to sleep. We were outside enjoying the beauty of Maine especially the great swimming. Our kids loved sleeping in the loft even though it got kind of hot up there. This is the perfect getaway spot if you are hoping to completely unplug!
Directions were a little confusing but the signs were very helpful! Overall an amazing stay with memories we will cherish forever. (My 11 year old niece caught her first big large mouth bass! 5lbs- 20 inches) Hosts have plenty of pots/pans etc for those little things you forget at home. Lots of games and extra blankets for cold nights. Extremely grateful for an unforgettable weekend with family and friends in a beautiful location. Thank you and we will definitely be back!
I stayed 3 nights with my former college roommates and we had a great time. Relatively close to Acadia so we made day trips there every day. The property was very peaceful and maintained, equipped with firewood, kayaks, and a canoe which allowed for a great time. The weather was not ideal however, with a tropical cyclone hitting saturday night into sunday morning which was an unreal experience. We believe the cloud coverage didn’t allow the water for the shower to heat up, so we weren’t able to take warm showers the whole time, not a big deal though. Caught a pickerel and a largemouth bass in the pond. The stars were really nice to view the one night the sky wasn’t cloudy. We’d rate the property 5/5.
We absolutely loved the property. The cabin had everything we needed, and the location on the lake was breathtaking. I awoke every morning to the sun rising and would just go sit by the lake and watch the sky change. We took the canoe out multiple times, hung a hammock and napped by the water’s edge, and enjoyed many outdoor meals and evening fires. If this place was closer than 15 hours from home we would be staying here as much as possible. Even given the distance, I can’t wait to come back!
My stay at Point Camp was absolutely stunning. The grounds were well kept and the cabin fit all the needs I could have wanted! I used the property as my housing location for a week of hiking in Acadia. Close to the park and to food/grocery store needs. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone!
This was exactly what we were looking for in a vacation spot. Solitude so we could enjoy our family time, fishing, hiking, fires and a place where our pups could participate in our vacation. If they could talk, I imagine they want to stay forever!! The cabin was perfect and the spring water was delicious and clear!
Thank you!!
Our stay was relaxing and enjoyable. If you enjoy the feel of remoteness but still having a town about 20 minutes away, then this is for you! Great place for our dog to run around, canoe on the lake and see the stars at night, and just have fun together. I loved the lack of electricity, helps you just put away electronics and enjoy the gorgeous nature - though they did have a great little solar charger for the phone. I would absolutely return here in the future. Pay attention to the signs while going on the long driveway, and I would recommend arriving in daytime to find it and unpack.
Beautiful location on Great Pond for a peaceful and private getaway. Tremendous comfort and amenities for an off-the-grid rustic cabin -- propane lights, stove, and refrigerator, water pumped into the cabin, a gas grill, and a spring for fresh drinking water. We could even keep our cell phones charged. We canoed on the pond, swam from the swim float, relaxed by the campfire, and enjoyed the calls of the loons and the beautiful stars at night. This was our second stay at this cabin and was every bit as enjoyable as the first.
Great off gridding experience in a VERY beautiful part of Maine. Solar powers the shower but it cold like a summer camp shower. You'll have to heat some water to have a warm shower, but five minutes of effort is absolutely worth the spot. Really close to Acadia and has its own cool trails to check out. That's the only thing you're giving up, it's worth it for sure.
The only thing I'd suggest to improve is the check in process, since we put in the address on the GPS and we got to the wrong site too far in. Luckily, we saw the Moseley's on the way in from the sign on their cabin.
Great directions to the property. The views and site are A+. Adorable camp, so quaint loved it ! We all were so happy to have had the pleasure to stay in such a private setting. We booked already for next year :)
This cozy little cabin in the woods is the perfect way to revitalize yourself!! We all get so busy in this crazy world it was so nice to get away. Everything this property has to offer was incredible. The scenery Was Majestic Seeing the eagles was the highlight of the trip Every morning they would come and you would know they were there because you would hear a big splash in the beautiful pond. A trip to Arcadia was wonderful And it was so close We fished in the beautiful pond And floated around in the kayaks. Thank you for the beautiful days we had.
This was one of our favorite places we have ever stayed. The quaintness and easiness in which you can relax here is hard to find these days. Our favorite part was grabbing the canoe for a sunset paddle around the pond. There's nothing I would change about this place. I hope we're able to come back to Maine and enjoy this place for a longer period of time. Thank you!
This place was great. Just what my wife and I needed.
Will be coming back again.

We live and work in Downeast Maine. This is our second vacation rental and we hope that folks will enjoy this little camp. Our camp is just across the cove and the property has been in Steve's family since the early 1900's
Why they chose this property
If you want a camping experience with a roof instead of a tent this is it. This is off grid and has few amenities. It is "Uptacamp" and if your looking for quiet, beautiful and simple this is it. ATV friendly and near trails, and great fishing. 2.5 miles from the hot top, but only 12 miles from a small City. Close to Acadia National Park and the rugged coast of Maine. Very close to State of Maine Dept of Conversation hiking trails. These trails are a little less busy than the Acadia trails with great views. (See State of Maine website) 2019 was our first year renting and it was a big hit with all the guests. Most all of the guests said that it exceeded the description and expectations. Many commented the view and quietness was unbelievable. We feel confident that our guests will enjoy this place as long as they understand this is not a hotel. This is camping with extra amenities to make it more enjoyable and convenient.
What makes this property unique
Inexpensive and no frills. Bring your pillows and sleeping bags. It is roughing it without it being too rough. It will sleep 4 and there is room in the yard for a tent and/or camper. Camper would be extra fee.
