About this property

Campfire Dreams - Blanco River access - s'mores, etc!!

The space is very comfortable to relax in and enjoy your time in the Hills. The large deck allows watching the deer that come several times a day, watching the sunset, grilling, sitting around the chiminea on a chilly evening, or reading a book. There is a full-size kitchen where guests can prepare their own meals. Pots and pans area provided, as well as dishes, silverware and glassware. Paper products available too! Great time for friends to visit and enjoy their time together in this quiet neighborhood.

We have three bedrooms available each with a queen size bed. There is a full bath on the main floor with tub and shower and full bath on the 3rd floor with just a shower. The 3rd floor bathroom has just been remodeled with a new larger shower!! The nightly rate is based on 4 people and is $20 per additional person per night. We keep the rate low so 4 people can enjoy our home. We can sleep 6 people in 3 beds and we do have an air mattress if there is an additional person or two. NOTE: If there are more people than what is registered, there will be a $20 per person charge per night and host must be notified. There is no charge for children 2 and under. We also allow small - medium size dogs (less than 40 lbs) (up to 2) with a $50 pet fee per dog. All dogs must be kept on a leash outside of the house (not on deck!!). They must not get on furniture, kept in a crate when unattended and must be on flea treatment and groomed. Additional charges may be incurred if pet chews rugs, furniture, etc. , sheds excessively, soils inside the house and/or has fleas. This causes us to have housekeepers do more than our already strenuous cleaning. (THANK YOU) Cedar Oak Mesa is a deer friendly neighorhood. Dogs should be quiet, calm and under control at all times. Our deer in our yard are very special to us and excessive barking scares them. We do not want the deer to run into the street and get hurt or killed.

We have a Pak N Play and booster seat for table available for your use, if needed.

The towels provided are for our guests bath/shower only and not for the river or pets. Please bring your own towels for that! There will be an additional fee if towels are used and dirtied at the river or for dogs.

High speed, reliable internet/wi-fi is available for your use.

We do have two friendly dogs and a cat that live on the property with us. They are usually here to greet you and say hello. We live downstairs but in a totally separate area. You have total privacy from us.

We have a NEMA 14-50 outlet available for electric vehicles. We do not have converters, cable or connectors. Due to increased electrical bills, we do charge $10 per day to charge your electric vehicle.

The Old Glory Ranch is only a mile down the road. The town square of Wimberley which is full of great shops, restaurants and grocery stores is only a 3.2 mile drive away along the beautiful Blanco River. Market days, which is the largest outdoor market in Texas Hill Country, is held the first Saturday of the month (March - December) and less than 10 minutes away. Don't forget Blue Hole, Jacob's Well, Hamilton Pool and the many wineries in the area. Try the Wimberley Zip Line to get the best views of the area!

Our property has access to two Private River Parks both just a short drive from the house. Across River Road you will find one of the few "deep water" swimming holes in the area where you can try out the rope swing. The second park has a picnic tables and small rapids....great for the family. Bring your own river towels.

The best in Texas Hill Country

Two generations (adults) loved our stay. The house is beautifully located (a short walk to the private river access) and convenient to all kinds of attractions--parks, trails, swimming holes, flea markets, honky-tonks, restaurants, wineries etc.--you name it. House has everything one needs--well equipped kitchen-for a very comfortable stay. Hosts are gracious and helpful.

Great place to stay!

Nice place to stay. Well stocked with everything you would need to cook. Short walk to the river. Favorite was the deer coming in the yard which you can feed with provided food. Also they had an amazing fire pit! The hosts were very nice and accommodating. Would definitely recommend!

Cute, old home in the Hill Country

We had a great stay in this home across the street from the Blanco River. We especially enjoyed sitting on the porch each morning, drinking our coffee and watching the abundant wildlife. Although super close to Wimberley and San Marcos, you feel as if you are in the "country". Would stay here again!

Restful getaway

We enjoyed our stay very much, we had everything we needed. The owners live on site so they greeted us when we arrived, and were very helpful in showing us where everything was. The house had a very nice back deck with a heater provided for cold weather. The owners even lit the fireplace out on the grounds for us to enjoy. The beds were very comfortable. The river was a short walk from the house and we enjoyed walking along the banks. We will definitely consider coming back.

Great Family Get-a-way!

The Hatch's were incredible and thoughtful hosts! Tons of extras provided for our stay! The private park by the Blanco River was awesome and afforded our family hours of water fun! Our children really loved feeding the deer that wondered into the yard and enjoying smores by the fire pit. We loved our stay and would definitely return.

Quiet, peaceful and relaxing.

We all had a great time. Property was a perfect spot to relax from the fast paced days we had up at COTA and Austin. The hosts were very accommodating with the campfire and offered information on local dining. House had everything we needed. Would definitely stay there again. The local deer offer a nice distraction as they visit the property at all hours.

Relaxing getaway

The house, location and host were perfect! Nothing bad to say. Richard and Donna were the best host. They were friendly and great company. The girls had a great time feeding the deer, playing with Sydney and floating the river. The beds were comfortable. Location was close to every activity we wanted to do, zip lining, hiking, floating, shopping and eating. This is definitely some where we will return.

Come for the Cozy, Stay for the Deer

My family and I were thrilled with our stay at Donna and Richard's cozy river house. Their place was so convenient to all the sites in Wimberley, but it was relaxing enough to not ever need to leave. We had fun, relaxing, playing games, sitting on the porch, making s'mores at their campfire, and hanging out at the river. It was a particularly special treat to have the unique opportunity to feed the deer in their front yard with my youngest daughter. Richard and Donna are gracious hosts who welcomed us in person when we first arrived to make sure we had everything we needed, and we were very appreciative of them going above and beyond when we asked for extra information, for example, Fourth of July celebrations in the area. If you are the type of person who would rather not talk or interact with your hosts, I'm sure they would respect that as well, but you may want to tell them in advance. My youngest said that she loved this house "with her whole heart". If we make it back to Wimberley, I'm sure we would want to stay there again!

Taking time to exhale

Four female family members stayed at Campfire Dreams over a long weekend. It was a trip that we had planned and postponed many times during the pandemic. Website photos don’t do justice to the quality of the accommodations or the peacefulness of the surroundings. The environment is quiet and the beds were most comfortable. The kitchen was stocked with every implement and appliance we could have needed. And, the attention to detail in the cleanliness category was exemplary. There were board games to play, a campfire to enjoy and deer and hummingbirds to admire. What a blessing this weekend was to our group.

Nothing short of fabulous!

We stayed at this property several years ago and my family had to return. The hosts are absolutely gracious and ensure that you will have a fabulous time. From always making sure there is deer feed for the dozens of deer visiting their property to making sure a campfire is ready to go in the evenings (with all the smore fixin's), to just making sure everything is hassle free. This place is bar none! The private access to the Blanco river is fantastic! It's gorgeous to sit in the crystal clear water and have a picnic with your family. Visiting downtown Wimberley is close and a fun activity for the day. The town is booming with artists and musicians and it's a short drive from their property. I highly recommend this property. It is completely relaxing to take in all of the deer, birds, and incredible sunsets from the deck. As my daughter says, "Mommy-this is like heaven on earth"....

Perfect Getaway from the City

We absolutely loved our stay! The house was spotless, everything we needed was there - spices, condiments, ice, coffee, ziplocks, everything except our food which is just 3 miles away at the HEB. The beds were so comfortable, the bathrooms nice, the kitchen was well equipped - everything was ideal. However, the best part was the balcony! Sitting out on the balcony each morning with a cup of coffee watching the deer and fox was so peaceful. I changed my mind, the best part was the location - it was close to town, close to Jacob's Well and close to the Blue Hole. Wait - I changed my mind again - the best part was the river that's a quick downhill walk. Even though it's dry in the area (and hot!) the Blanco River access here is DEEP! 20'+! The kids could stand or sit on a shallow rock ledge about 3-4" deep in the cool water, or jump off the rock ledge into a HUGE swimming hole. There are also two shallow areas for smaller kids to safely play as well and the whole river is gorgeous through here. I told Donna and Richard, who are WONDERFUL, by the way, they didn't brag on the river enough on there site! It's amazing. And Donna and Richard live right below on the first story and can help immediately if you need anything - even if it's just the kids asking for some deer feed to hand feed the deer! We thought having the owners below us might be weird, but they make a point to give you 100% privacy if you want. We enjoyed talking with them and learning all about the deer that walk through the front yard several times a day. They are the nicest people and will build a fire for you in the fire pit if you'd like and even gave us stuff for Smores. I'm telling you, this place is perfect. We didn't want to leave. If we come to Wimberly again, I know where we'll stay. Oh, and if you like wildlife, be sure an watch the bats come out from under the bridge in the town square around sunset.

Great place to stay!

We had a mini family reunion/vacation in Wimberley for three nights and four days and this Was a great place to stay! The house was stocked with everything we could’ve thought of including sunscreen and we really enjoyed the access to the swimming hole in. Bedrooms were a bit small but certainly serve the purpose and I would stay there again.

We rented this property for a family birthday/ getaway weekend. Our hosts were wonderful, both very friendly and several age groups enjoyed multiple conversations. Absolute Heaven

My husband and I had the best time here! The house was more than expected. It was very clean, well stocked, and very comfortable! We enjoyed the upper balcony for sunsets and the lower patio/balcony for morning coffee and reading. However the highlight of this trip was always sitting be the campfire and being entertained by all the wildlife. Deer are almost always seen roaming around. Birds of all kinds are in the trees and close enough to get some good pictures. We even saw a fox! Our hosts, Donna and Richard were excellent at recommending day excursions and great restaurants! Richard always kept the fire going and made sure we had plenty of food for the animals. The most wonderful part of the trip is we now have two new friends in Donna and Richard! We will be back!

Relaxing and quiet weekend in the Hill Country

My family and I enjoyed our weekend in Wimberly. Perfect place to unwind and slow down. Just a short walk down the hill to enjoy the private and serene Blanco river: it’s also where one of the two river access parks is located. My teens loved the rope swing , and snorkeling/ fishing in the deeper waters. The second river park is great for the younger kids with small rapids and shallow water. Only a short float between parks. I brought my own tubes but the hosts kindly offered tubes and air if needed. The campfire was really enjoyable, the boys loved feeding the deer and melting marshmallows for s’mores as the sun was setting. There was also a nice covered patio with a propane grill we used the first evening. The kitchen was stocked with every utensil and or cookware you’d need to make every meal. HEB was a short drive away for groceries. The Ace hardware had lots of supplies for the river. The house was also have a Keurig coffee maker stocked with coffee, creamer and sugar. The two bathrooms were stocked with plenty of toiletries: which was a bonus! Great place to stay and hosts were very friendly. Thanks again!

This property was great for our family. Clean, roomy, and super close to the river. Richard and Donna were great hosts. About the host

Hosted by Richard and Donna Hatch

Host profile image
Richard and I are owners of Campfire Dreams. He is retired USAF Lt. Colonel, serving 30 proud years!! I am a retired private investigator and was in security industry for almost 30 years. We have two dogs and a cat that live on the property. They are very friendly and love to meet our guests. We live in the downstairs that used to be the game room!! Our little tiny home.

My parents built the house in 1984 and Richard and I inherited it. Our daughter mentioned that it would be fun to share this house with others and so we decided to start this new venture in December 2015. We love meeting our guests and then giving them their space to enjoy everything Wimberley has to offer and to relax on the deck. If you have any questions about our property, all you have to do is ask.

Why they chose this property

This property has had many memories made here over the years! This is a house my parents built and our kids have spent their childhoods here. It was their idea that we share this house with others so they can make memories also. The large viewing deck on the main floor allows you to view the wildlife, sip a glass of wine while viewing the sunset, read a book or take a nap! We are 3 miles from Wimberley Square, close to wineries, and the Blanco River. So many memories to make and so little time!!

What makes this property unique

We offer s'more fixings, campfires, deer feeding (of course, deer dependent!!) and all the solitude you want! Beautiful scenery and fabulous Fall evening temperatures by the campfire.
