Our village - Nature - History - Sites
Kavousi is a historic and lively village that offers many activities and attractions. Its unique nature and history offers a variety of interesting visits, educational excursions, intense walks and hikes, caving experience, as well as deep relaxation and peaceful moments.
At its square there are coffee shops, the church of St.George and the Twelve Apostles Church. One should definitely try the famous traditional and super healthy desserts made with grapemust that are sold in most local bakeries.
Tholos beach, sandy, with shallow waters and shady tamarisk trees is located 3km from the village.
Nearby many important antiquities like the three minoan settlements, the ruins of Roman warehouses, many byzantine orthodox churches and chapels with impressive wall paintings.
One should not miss the remarkable ancient olive tree of Kavousi, 2 km on the southeast, with a trunk diameter of 17 meters estimated to be nearly 5000 years old. The olive tree was recently declared a protected natural monument.
The "Theriospilo" cave, 40minutes walk from the village is also worth visiting for its impressive stalagmites. Near the cave is the "Chrysokamino”, the remains of a mining kiln from the later medieval period.
Opposite the beach of Kavousi the islet of Psira can be seen, where an important settlement and active port thrived in the Minoan times.
The view of the island and the bay of Mirambello from the area of Platanos, on the east of the village, is breathtaking.
Kavousi is the actual geographical center of the Lasithi district, it's 19km away from Ierapetra and 28km from Agios Nikolaos. Starting from Kavousi one can explore the traditional villages, the magnificent beaches and stunning mountains, the important history and modern culture of Lasithi.

I am a structural engineer, working for the municipality of Ierapetra, in charge of environmental projects and civil protection. I am also a mother of two teenagers and I enjoy taking trips and excursions with them, enjoying our district's diverse nature.
I also love to travel abroad, read and listen to music.

Why they chose this property
This is my grandparents home, where I used to spend vacations and weekends during my childhood. It is filled with dear memories of my loved ones and cherished moments of relaxed, simple village life in Kavousi.
I have kept a couple of my ancestors photographs on display in the living room to honor and thank them for passing down this lovely property to me and my family.
It was a life's goal for me to have this home properly restored and renovated and afterwards stylishly furnished and decorated. This demanding process lasted a few years , it was time & money consuming, but I enjoyed all of it.
I still love to spend my free time there with family and friends and I would love to be able share my home with people that will enjoy and appreciate it as well.

What makes this property unique
You will love winter vacations in Kavousi and will also love the heating system installed in all rooms with heat from the central fireplace. It offers a hint of luxury in a simple lifestyle and also brings primal comfort, as the sight and sound of wood burning always does.
You will also enjoy the private porch in front of the house with pots of flowers, decorative plants and herbs that you can use fresh in your cooking...
I have used a lot of old heavy furniture, which now restored are given new life and a lot of color, which I think generally represents life in this village.
