(Update on 5/20/24: The Lake temperature is 75 degrees!! The Pontoon is included in the daily rate from 7/1/24 - Labor Day. Before / after it can be added to your reservation.)
The Sunset Cottage is ideally located on Chapman Lake facing West overlooking the entire lake. You can swim right off the seawall as the sandy area is an ideal location for all sorts of water fun! The water depth is about 18” and it slowly tapers off to deeper water. The swimming area is quite large so bring a chair or floaty and have hours of endless fun whether you are young or young at heart. There are 2 sandbars on Big Chapman with shallow areas ranging from 1’ - waist deep. Tie up and have a great time! In the evening, sit around the campfire (firewood is included!), make s’mores & most importantly memories that will last a lifetime. No smoking or pets.

Pontoon information: (The Pontoon is included unless otherwise noted)
2021 Godfrey SW 2086 CX. It is 20’ in length with a 90 HP Yamaha motor. Maximum Capacities: 10 persons or 1400 lbs. Permitted use from Dawn to Dusk. The pontoon is exclusive to the Cottage and is included in the daily rate from Memorial Day - Labor Day; then al a cart before / after this time period. A tubbing package can be added for $69 which includes at least 2 tubes. (Refer to contract for all rules / regulations / requirements)

The home is located lakeside with a built-in channel so your friends or family can pick you up to enjoy the sandbar or tie up your own pontoon or I/O boat. There is a public boat launch on the Southeast side of Chapman Lake.

The property has 3 bedrooms; 1 queen bed, 1 twin trundle bed (each are twin size) and bunk beds (each are full size) and 1 bathroom; Sleeps 8. Amenities include: Central A/C, Cable TV and Wifi via YouTube TV, Ceiling fan in the living room, Weber Propane grill on the deck, Campfire (wood is included for free!), a small portable slide, Corn hole, 1 Stand Up Paddle Board (11'2' long), Paddle Boat, and other miscellaneous water toys / floats.

Located on Chapman Lake, an all-sports lake that is connected to Little Chapman Lake which offers a slower pace. The spring-fed lakes comprise a total of 638 acres.

Lake getaway for bride to be

Our bride to be wanted to have a chill weekend getaway at a lake for her bachelorette and this was perfect! We took the boat out on the water and had a fabulous time. We were happy to beat the heat with the great air conditioning afterwards, and then we made a fire at night and made smores. Emerson was very responsive when we needed anything and we would highly recommend staying here!

In town due to death of father

My father loved the water and fishing so I chose to stay somewhere that would honor his life. The place was perfect and the host was very accommodating. He even allowed us to have a very small service for my father next to the water. I highly recommend this vrbo.

Our family really enjoyed our stay. The house was great for what we needed and the location was perfect for playing on the lake. The hosts were available if we needed anything and they made the whole experience very easy.

Nice lake and great time had by all!

We had a wonderful time at the lake. Emerson was fantastic at communicating and he was available anytime we needed him. We were out on the lake before a storm, so with the waves and the wind, the boat kept moving away from the dock as we tried to bring it in. Emerson and his wife were johnny on the spot with a rope to help pull us toward the dock. The neighbors around us were kind and friendly. We enjoyed our time with our family and would recommend this place to anyone.

Perfect Lakefront Getaway

Our family of 7, including children ages 5-17, had a wonderful week at Sunset Cottage! There were many outdoor activities to keep us entertained (paddle boat, paddle board, fishing, swimming, boating & tubing) during the day. We enjoyed the evenings grilling and playing in the yard. The ease of the boat rental and the attentiveness to make sure we had a full tank of gas each day allowed us to truly relax & focus on our family! We hope to visit again!

EMERSON AND NATALIE DO AN AMAZING JOB KEEPING THE PROPERTY SPIC AND SPAN AND UPDATED WITH EVERYTHING YOU COULD NEED. WE SPENT MANY HOURS ON THE PONTOON AND THE LAKE WAS SO NICE. Lovely views at sunset cottage

We had a lovely fall stay at the sunset cottage. The views from the deck are gorgeous. The cottage is sparkling clean and has all the amenitites to make your stay comfortable and cozy. The kitchen is well stocked with more equipment than any rental I've been to, which is great. The pontoon boat was a great way to get out on the water in mid October, and the lake is beautiful. We also had fun playing corn hole and other games. Emerson is a gracious host and willing to assist in any way to make your stay more comfortable. The cottage is so well decorated and makes you feel right at home. We would recommend it to anyone...

Short fishing trip

Cottage was clean and stocked with everything you need for fishing or just to relax. The boat looked brand new and drove great! The owners are wonderful and great to work with! We definitely recommend this cottage!

My family and I enjoyed spending time here. The lake is not huge or crowded which was to our liking because we are new to boating. The house was clean and our hosts were great with communication.

Great family vacation!

Wonderful small house right on the water. Pontoon boat and tubing was great. Lake is small but no limitations on ability to tube and swim, which we enjoyed every day! Emerson and Natalie were extremely responsive when we needed anything! We definately recommend this place and hope to go again.

Perfect Family Getaway

Sunset cottage and Lake Chapman are hidden gems! Perfect spot for a getaway for our family of 5! The cottage was adorable, clean, and located in a prime spot on the lake. The owners were so friendly and accommodating. The extras that are included in the rental, including life jackets, chairs, noodles, paddle boat, fire pit and grill made the lake experience complete! We also rented the pontoon, which was very nice!! That whole process was easy and convenient, and allowed us to explore the area from the water. Swimming in “little Chapman” was our favorite part. As much as we’d like this gem to stay hidden, we felt compelled to write the glowing review it deserved! Can’t wait to return to Sunset Cottage!

Hidden Gem 2 hour drive from downtown Chicago

Sunset Cottage to the rescue! The car, kids and food were all packed, at the very last minute our previously scheduled long weekend rental was cancelled. While I was scurrying crazily looking for a place to rent I came across "Sunset Cottage". I contacted Emerson and he responded very quickly. We made the very easy 2+ hour drive from Chicago. We arrived and easily able to park 3 cars across in the out front. Don't be deceived by the bland facade from the street. Once you enter the house it has such a cozy, friendly and very clean feel. Nothing fancy, but all the amenities are there. The ndoor dining room and living room has many games and puzzles. Most times when we rent we bring EVERYTHING from home with us, including a blender. This house even had a blender. I even noticed an air mattress and play pen in the closet. But Wait! The best part, a new gas grill outside, just steps from the indoor kitchen. The outdoor dining table on a deck overlooking the huge yard and the whole lake which faces mostly West, so every evening we enjoyed a spectacular sunset. Our weather could not have been finer for our stay (3rd week in May). We had a blast using the pontoon boat and the tube was provided. The huge perfectly manicured lawn also has a built in firepit for relaxing and making s'mores. The kids had a blast swimming, wading, sliding on the slide and paddleboarding. There are brand new entry steps into the water which is less than 2ft deep on the closer end of the house and the dock out to the boat. You do have to be quite careful with the boat as many areas are quite shallow. I highly recommend water shoes because there are many stones and shells. This house was a fantastic which really saved the day, as we were celebrating a quinceneara with family. Emerson and Natalie couldn't have been nicer and very accomodating. I have made many recommendations of this house on my Facebook and Mom groups. It is probably best suited for 2 couples with 2 kids each or a larger family.
