Great base for hikes in Lassen

Six guys used this property as a base for hiking in Lassen Volcanic National Park. Excellent location close to the southwest entrance. Accomodations for a group of friends are great; plenty of beds, well equipped kitchen, and good communication from the owner. We will definitely stay here again.

A great location for our first fiber art retreat

Property was just what we needed for our first summer fiber art retreat. The number of beds, the TWO bathrooms, the large living room & a large dining table that worked for both meals & work area. We appreciated the lovely outdoor deck with the table & chairs. Richard was very responsive when I had questions about the audio/visual. We had a wonderful time & hope to have our second fiber art retreat here next year. 😁

Good location when road thru park is open.

Worked well for our very varied group of five. Enough space so we were not on top of each other.

Nice family vacation

This is our second year staying in the house. The house accommodates our family well and is well stocked. Richard is great to communicate with. This stay the house was not as clean as our previous stay. I swept and mopped and cleaned one of the bathrooms then all was good. Other then that the weather was wonderful and so was the house!

Perfect location and a wonderful cabin!

We absolutely loved our stay here. We are a family of 6 with four teens. The house was well-equipped with everything we could possibly need, and we loved the projector to stream our favorite shows after a long day of hiking! The proximity to the park was a bonus! We fell in love with the area and can’t wait to come back! We can’t say enough good things about host, house, and park!

A stargazing, magical, amazing vacation home with all conveniences you want

This vacation home in Mineral CA, only 4 miles from Mt Lassen National Park entrance is amazing, wonderful, with all the conveniences a family wants, needs for a whole week. Lots of room, abundance of clean linen/towels, great movie/game selections, back deck with enormous grill was the best. Plenty of parking, easy to find and in an excellent quiet neighborhood, that is fun to walk around. The night sky shows off the Milky Way and a billion stars twinkle. The super nice kitchen, appliances made everything cozy. This home is super close to Lake Almanor, hidden fishing creek treasures and the volcano trails are a must. Thank you a million times over. We will return next year.

The Cabin was perfect for our Family to meet for a wedding.

We arrived a little early and met Richard, he was so sweet, gave us a little tour, including the newly installed air conditioner upstairs. Then we headed out to find the wedding Venue and drive around Lake Almanore. The next afternoon my parents arrived, age 85 & 97, my grown son & his wife and my daughter, her husband and 16 month old baby. We all fit perfectly. That night we BBQ'd and celebrated being together, it was really warm outside but the little air conditioner kept us all very comfortable. In the kitchen we had everything we needed to prepare and serve a festive meal. The rest of our weekend was equally comfortable, just enough variety of supples to make everything go smoothly. Thank You so Much Richard.

Peace and snow

We stayed at this property for a little family cross country ski getaway, and had a wonderful time. The house is as advertised by the pictures, not fancy but clean and has everything you need to comfortably cook all of your meals and enjoy a mountain getaway. Proximity to Lassen is priceless and the owner was very easy to communicate with.

Perfect Basecamp for Lassen National Park

A group of eight of us stayed here for three days of backcountry skiing in LNP. It worked out perfectly and Richard was very accommodating and helpful. The home provides easy access to the south entrance of the park and is stocked with useful information, maps, guide books, and ski videos to help inform your exploration plans. The house is clean and fully functional, including a well-stocked kitchen. Lots of beds, beautiful sunsets, and plentiful parking. Easy walk to "downtown" Mineral, where there is a general store and a restaurant/bar that is only open on Saturday nights (at least in the winter). The bar has a great old-fashioned shuffleboard game that is worth checking out.

Great location, well equipped

We are a family of four and we spent three nights in the house. The house is located just 15 mins drive from Lassen park entrance, which is great and probably the best you can do if you do not live inside the park itself. The owner is very helpful, instructions were clear and included very helpful extra tips about where to eat and what to do. The kitchen is well equipped (but without a dishwasher) and easy to operate. And we really enjoyed the movie collection!

Great location, great stay!

We had a large group of backcountry skiers sharing the house. The location was superb, just a short distance from the Lassen entrance. The house held a big group comfortably, and everyone found their beds comfortable. The living room was a great space for trip planning (it's easy for people to sit comfortably around the tables), and comfortable for lounging at the end of the day. Richard is an excellent host! We're all looking forward to our next stay.

Cozy Cabin Near Lassen

We had a great time staying at the cabin this winter. Fun winter activities in Lassen and a convenient sledding hill located walking distance from the cabin. The cabin was comfortable and met all our needs. Very close to Lassen Volcanic National Park!

Quaint place to getaway in Lassen National Park

We enjoyed our week at this home. All the beds were very comfortable, and the linens were obviously newer and clean with plenty quality pillows. Lots of good quality towels, a fresh set on each bed was a great touch. The view was great and we enjoyed time on the deck. Having access to trash cans and not having to take our refuse to the dump ourselves is wonderful. The VHS collection is impressive, and we enjoyed a few evenings watching old favorites. The updated shower upstairs was nice. The living room was decently appointed, tho all the furniture should be shampooed or placed under fresh slip-covers. Lots of lamps around so you can light the room in many ways. We made good use of the Bose speakers with our playlists. Areas that could be improved for the next guests: A proper cleaning before new guests arrive, the home was a bit dusty and there was hair on the sink and in the bathtub downstairs upon our arrival. The laundry area was filthy, and no laundry basket was available. A basic instruction sheet on how to use the fancy washer would be helpful, the 1980s dryer is simple enough to figure out. Kitchen needs a working can opener, and the cupboards need a good scrub down inside and out. Expired food should be discarded. The dish drainer is awkward to use if you have more than a couple dishes to dry. The only outlet near the counters is behind the microwave. Finally, a laminated list of things to do when leaving the property. We had no idea what the expectation was, to strip beds or get towels washing or any other instructions. We would stay again.

A perfect location for your Lassen getaway

Perfect house for a group of up to 10 people and located very close to Lassen National Park entrance. The place was clean and well kept and had all the required amenities. The best part for me personally was star gazing from the patio with a glass of wine- watching the Milky Way and counting the falling stars. I would recommend this place to anyone without any hesitation. Only tip I would give is for the town of Mineral- we were surprised that the town is not developed at all, even for a town close to a National Park, so unless you are ok driving 30 min each way- plan for your meals and grocery during the stay so you won't have to run around last minute. There is only one restaurant and one convenience store in town- which could possibly be a challenge if you are a vegetarian like me. We however had no issues as we had taken even produce to cook in the house- and enjoyed our meals in the convenience of Richard's house.

Why they chose this property

We bought this house after renting houses in Mineral for 7 years.
We come to Mineral/Lassen all winter long to backcountry ski and snowshoe, and wanted to have a house that was "just right" for us. The large, flat driveway, large backyard, and views of Turner Mountain from the living room were some of the big draws for us.

In the summer we use the house less frequently and are excited to share our house with you.

What makes this property unique

We recently purchased the house and have been working hard to update and improve everything in the house. We think you'll appreciate the upgrades we've made, too.
- Cell phone signal booster. Mineral has terrible cell service, but inside our house most people get 4-5 bars. Verizon, Sprint, AT&T have all worked great for us, T-mobile seems to be the only carrier that doesn't come in strong
- New mattresses and memory foam toppers. We've updated the mattresses in the house and added memory foam toppers to most of the twin beds.
- New towels, linens, and pillows. The house is from 1967...the towels aren't!
- Fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, and carbon monoxide alarms throughout the house. Safety is important to us when we're in the house, and we want you to feel comfortable when you're visiting, too.
-Automatic standby generator. Our power company, PG&E turns off the power in Mineral when fire danger is high, often when the fire danger is not at all near Mineral. We've installed a generator that powers the whole house so your food, lights, and holiday will continue in case the power is turned off.
