TESTIMONIALS

Here are select comments from our Vermont Treehouse Guestbook:

"We brought snowshoes, and spent hours in the woods exploring the trails. Gorgeous! We didn't leave the property for three days!"

"Everything was fabulous! We loved it here and want you to know how special of a place you have. Thank you again and please know, this is a time my family and I will never forget!"

"We had lovely stay in the Vermont Treehouse, one of the most architecturally fascinating houses I've seen anywhere in the world. All the amenities of your actual home are here, washing machine and dryer with detergent, dishwasher with soap, lots of towels, etc. rather than some places I've stayed that have amenities but no means to use them. Every traveller will appreciate the whimsy of this place, from the spiral staircase to the top floor, to the window seat up above. I highly recommend a visit, both for the serious skier and the casual vacationer who wants to visit the true Vermont.....Sandy, the owner, is just down the road and was easy to reach with our concerns (we had a fairly late arrival time and then ended up coming a day late). Also the wifi was blazing fast, fast enough to play online games.

'What an amazing time we've had. Going to sleep and waking up to the gorge outside was one of the many reasons to love this house.

"What a beautiful, hidden gem you have here!" "The Treehouse had everything we especially peace, quiet, and rest in beautiful surroundings. The hot tub provides the perfect ending to a day of rigorous hiking up Hunger Mountain. You have created a warm, inviting, and unique experience in the heart of skiing and hiking country. The Treehouse is quite a treasure."

"Going to sleep and waking up to the gorge outside was one of the many reasons to love this house." We feel refreshed and recalibrated and will sing the praises of Johnson, Vt. back in NYC! Thank you for providing such a unique and enchanting home!"

"My wife and I hd a wonderful stay here, and invited a couple of friends to join us. We found everything we needed to cook meals between the grocery store in Johnson and the appliances and utensils right here in the kitchen. The hot tub was a pleasant reprieve after a long day skiing the slopes of Stowe and the roads were plowed swiftly after a night's worth of snowfall. We look forward to our next stay here!"

" We had an amazing time at The Treehouse! Dennis and Sandy were so helpful (it was snowing and we couldn't make it up the hill-they did everything they could to solve our problem). We snowboarded on Sunday, hiked the trails on Monday, and spent a day/night in Burlington, and recommend all those things. The hot tub was great after being out in the cold all day. The house had everything we needed. We will definitely be staying here again the next time we are in Vermont."

"Thank you for providing the perfect place to enjoy a winter retreat in Vermont - its warm and cozy atmosphere, fantastic forest views in all directions, nearby walking trails and access to nearby towns and ski slopes. After one longish walk in snow shoes, returning home to the hot tub was especially relaxing. We will return to Australia happy, very satisfied, and rested. If we could, we would make this trip our annual retreat."

Magical wintery getaway

We had a great time at the Treehouse! The house is cozy and well stocked with anything you could need. Sandy was the perfect host. She made sure we were comfortable and greeted us upon arrival- supplying us with fresh eggs, maple syrup and other goodies :) The trails behind the house are excellent for a hike or snowshoeing- so beautiful and peaceful! It was great to get up each morning and enjoy the woods right out the back door. The view from the house is lovely and there are many nooks to tuck away in and read or enjoy a cup of coffee while taking in the view. The house is very clean, the beds are super comfy and the hot tub was fresh and relaxing. She even supplied fresh plush robes for each guest - so cozy. We would love to visit again. Thank you Sandy!

Exciting Architecture

A incredible house in an incredible place. Thank you, Sandy and Dennis, for the excellent place and the care with which you took to make sure your guests had everything they needed. We had a wonderful stay here, enjoying both the hot tub and the sauna, and the fully-stocked kitchen, complete with coffee :)! The grocery store is just down the road in Johnson, and we cooked both breakfast and lunches in the treehouse. We had dinner in downtown Johnson and had some local Vermont beer. We slept one person on each floor-there are two queen beds, and two single size beds. The house itself is incredible peaceful, about a five minute drive up above the town of Johnson, near some trails that were nice to walk on. The "treehouse" is a very exciting piece of architecture, and has a distinctly "Eastern" feel to it, full of warm and snug living spaces spread across several floors (there was even a spiral stepladder!). One thing to be aware of is that there is very little cell service in the area, so preload your GPS map on your way, we turned into the wrong house and took a few minutes to get reoriented. The house does have internet, which reaches all the way to the top floor, so no worries there.

Snow Globe Magic

The Treehouse is wonderful. It’s clean, cozy, and was perfect for a Christmas getaway with our young adult children. We were together but the creative layout of The Treehouse allowed us our own spaces, too. The house is furnished and stocked with everything you could possibly need or want. The hot tub was exactly what we needed after our days of skiing and exploring the area. It was snowing when we arrived, snowed while skiing , snowed on our sleigh ride, snowed while strolling through Stowe…like a snow globe! Our host, Sandy, welcomed us, made sure we had everything we needed, including sending her “plow guy” out as needed. This is a true vacation place, lovingly cared for where the owners get as much pleasure hosting as their guests do staying at The Treehouse.

Treehouse!

Sandy was wonderful and made our experience awesome! The house came equipped with absolutely everything we could’ve needed. The property/town is relatively isolated, but provided us with a peaceful and wonderful weekend away. The trails were beautiful and the views were amazing! We would definitely come back for another girls weekend or ski trip! Thanks sandy :)

Cozy and unique vacation home!

My time at The Treehouse ranks among my top vacation experiences yet! My husband and I decided we wanted a trip away to relax and enjoy the winter sports Vermont has to offer. We chose to stay at The Treehouse and couldn't be happier with our decision! We arrived late at night after a series of flights, and were delighted to find the fridge stocked with breakfast for the next morning! Sandy, our host, was so wonderfully considerate to save us an early morning trip to the grocery store. The house was beautifully furnished and impeccably clean. The place was tucked away amongst loads of trails, yet a short drive to the ski resorts. The hot tub was clean, filled, and ready for our arrival! The windows were huge to allow for lots of natural light in the daytime. Sandy was incredibly helpful and accommodating with our questions and concerns. We were able to do lots of snowboarding, exploring, and relaxing- precisely what we needed! My husband and I are so grateful for our time at The Treehouse and will certainly be back soon!

Perfect Vermont escape

I stayed at Sandy's treehouse over the New Year holidays with some friends and we couldn't have asked for anything more for our holiday! The house is located in a peaceful and picture perfect corner of the woods and has everything you could want for a winter vacation: hot tub, sauna, lovely living space and comfortable bedrooms and access to a couple of private nature trails. Sandy was extremely helpful with the reservation process and gave us lots of tips to help plan our stay, pack appropriately and get there safely. The kitchen is really well equipped and Sandy even left us some much appreciated maple syrup and fresh eggs. Would definitely recommend this house to a couple or close friends who are looking for a quiet escape in a lovely location. We can't wait to come back!

Treehouse In the Mountains

I recently stayed at Sandy's treehouse near Stowe, Vermont. This was an awesome hidden treehouse in the mountains and had everything you could need on a vacation... hot tub, sauna, snow sleds. It was truly a magical vacation. Sandy went out of her way to ensure we had everything we needed, including fresh eggs, maple syrup, fresh baked cookies, and more. She met us when we arrived to give us a tour of the property and explain how to work some things (such as the electric fireplace). She gave us recommendations on fantastic places to eat in the area, as well as some good ski slopes for beginners (Smuggler's Notch versus Stowe) and other things to do in the area (different trails to visit during our time). She also called to check in on us when she heard the roads were covered in ice and to let us know the snowplow was en route. Overall, this was an awesome vacation for my family in an awesome, unique location with a wonderful host. Thanks so much Sandy!

Unique Treehouse

My family and I stayed at the Treehouse over XMAS holidays. The property was gorgeous. Sandy was a most gracious host. She had baked us free shortbread cookies, fresh eggs, and maple syrup. The property had everything you could imagine. The beds were all so so comfortable. Sandy was very easy to deal with during the reservation process as well. Anything I mentioned she went above and beyond in getting; including board games which we enjoyed and a XMAS tree already up when we got there. I would highly recommend this property for anyone traveling to that area.

Homey Treehouse

When I first drove into the driveway, I was in awe of this unique home! It is such a cool looking building, and even has a sauna a few meters from the house. I feel right at home and cozy staying in this "treehouse". There are so many different places to curl up and read a book, surf the web, or admire the Vermont nature with all of the windows. Great walking trails right from the door, internet is fast, kitchen is great. Many bedrooms, and you don't feel crowded. I loved the shower on the 2nd floor, very roomy and clean! Overall, great experience! If you're looking for a home-away-from-home, treehouse getaway...here's your place!

Cozy Treehouse Getaway

We had a lovely stay in the Vermont Treehouse, one of the most architecturally fascinating houses I've seen anywhere in the world. The treehouse isn't an actual treehouse, but built on the edge of a 60 foot cliff, this four story home rises up high above it, with gorgeous windows looking out at the trees growing up from below. Because we were here during the full display of fall colors, the view outside was unbelievable. Full of cozy nooks and corners, each story is a little smaller than the one before, finishing in a carpeted, open attic space with enough space to sleep or curl up with a book. From the hot tub on the ground floor to the fire on the second floor, as well as the sauna outside, there's plenty of opportunity to warm up after a long day (this house is just 20 minutes from downtown Stowe and an hour from Burlington, both of which we visited). All the amenities of your actual home are here, washing machine and dryer with detergent, dishwasher with soap, lots of towels, etc., rather than some places I've stayed that have amenities but no means to use them. Every traveler will appreciate the whimsy of this Johnson, Vermont Treehouse, from the spiral staircase up to the top floor, to the window seat up above. I highly recommend a visit, both for the serious skier and the casual vacationist who wants to visit true Vermont, try Vermont Apple cider or maple syrup, or wander famous Eastern towns like Stowe, Burlington, etc. Sandy, the owner, is just down the road, and was easy to reach with any of our concerns (we had a fairly late arrival time and then ended up coming a day late). Also, the wifi was blazing fast- fast enough to play online games :).

The tranquility of the Treehouse

Dear Sandy & Dennis - our experience in your unique "Treehouse" was awesome. The setting is so romantic - a combination of rustic and modern. The floors sparkled with polish and every room is so clean and fresh smelling. The house is fun to explore - from top to bottom. Each floor differs from the one above and the one below - like entering a new dimension each time. We had a choice of three bedrooms in which to sleep and we chose the one downstairs. The bed was so comfortable and snug with the softest sheets and pillowcases. The showers were hot and relaxing and we even frolicked in the hot tub. The kitchen, where we had breakfast each morning, was well stocked with every convenience - even coffee which tasted especially good using your well water. Then, add to all of this, the woods coming in through the windows, and you have it all; total relaxation, total peace, total contentment. We did not have the diversion of skiing during our stay, but rather spent most of our time in the tranquility of the Treehouse. Thank you for providing this hidden gem in your midst. We hope to enjoy it again and again. It's all good. Best wishes, Ann & Al PS: Worth mentioning was our dinner at Charlie B's - delicious food and great service.

Great getaway spot

The Treehouse is so awesome! All the beds are nice and the house was cozy with a country feel. It's nestled just a little in the woods, and lives amongst walking/running trails. The house has many floors that make it fun to explore, and perfect for chilling out, conversation, or reading with some local beer or wine in hand. Well stocked with amenities, and worth the stay! Comfortably fits 4, or 6 if there are two couples. I think there is a pull out if there is an extra 7th, but the house may feel tight around that amount. I came up with some skiers from Montana, and we stayed for the week. Good location for many different areas. Thanks Sandy!

About the host

Hosted by Sandy Bender

Host profile image
My name is Sandy Bender, and I am a native Vermonter (also called a "Woodchuck") who loves the peacefulness and serenity of the northern Vermont hills. My husband and I raised our family here, and now I spend my time working on the trails in the woods, shoveling horse manure, and trying to keep the fox from stealing my chickens.

Why they chose this property

This property is in Johnson, just "down the road a piece" from ours, and I've had my eye on it for years. We were able to buy it a few years ago and have put our heart and soul into upgrades, fixes, and additions. I think you will find all the comforts of home, but better, because you're on vacation! We named it The Vermont Treehouse because even though it’s not literally in a tree, its five levels and forest location certainly makes it feel like it! People from all over the Country, and beyond have enjoyed the place, and we think you will, too!

What makes this property unique

If you're looking for a unique place to vacation, close to all the outdoor activities you can think of, this is surely it!
*My guests have all written in a Guest Book we keep over at The Treehouse, talking about their stays. I treasure it! If you're interested, and want to see their recommendations, please feel free to let me know and I will email them over. Thanks for your interest, we hope you visit The Vermont Treehouse soon! Feel free to call me with any questions, I'd be happy to talk to you! Sandy Bender 802 635 2860 in Johnson, Vermont.
