About this property

The garage is the trail-head to epic adventure. Open floor plan, amazing views.

This house just reopened for rental after 2 years off the market. It was designed by the famous Chicago architectural firm Nagle & Hartray back in the 80's, and has been featured in magazines for its innovative design.
Our house has an updated chalet mountain feel with a wide open floor plan, 50 brand new windows, doors, carpet, furnishings, and linens this Dec 2021.
The main floor is one big room with built in extra wide benches that surround a modern wood stove and a thick shag "chill zone" rug that you will be laying on... we promise, with 3 walls that are almost all glass, the sun pours through the space and connects you to the amazing cross valley views and mountains. It's a very social space that lends itself to an inclusive relaxing experience for your whole group.
You'll spend mornings around the wood stove drinking coffee and stretching before you put on your ski boots and step out the door for a short walk where you can ski down to the Gold Link lift. At the end of the day, your last turn is in the driveway with enough snow. Evenings are spent in the kitchen cooking together and chatting to your friends as they sit in the living room watching the sun's last light splash across Snoddgrass Mountain. It's a good way to end an amazing day in this beautiful land.
With so much glass, you can lounge on the couch or lay on the soft comfy benches and watch the stars come out. The valley faces away from the lights of town, so the night skies surrounding Gothic Mountain are extra twinkly and bright.
There are 3 bedrooms. The upper floor is the master bedroom, bath with 11 oversized windows facing out into the valley, and 30' ceilings. The room may be one of the most romantic places in all of Colorado. It also has a loft for reading.
The lower level has two bedrooms and full bathroom with 2 sinks. These rooms are connected to a second living room that has a 50 inch flat screen smart TV on the wall with a comfy couch to relax into if you want to watch movies. One bedroom has a queen bed and ample closet space. The second bedroom has a bunkbed with a double on the bottom and a single on the top with a single trundle bed. This room sleeps 4.
If you want to go to town and you don't want to drive, it's a 5 min walk to the bus stop.
Summer time trail access is world class. From the driveway you can ride 2 of the top 10 trails in North America, Snodgrass, and the legendary 401. You can also ride all the on mountain trails with a 2 minute downhill to the lifts.
Our house has a lock off apartment with a separate entrance, and we live on the property. We are happy to answer any questions or be of help if the need arises. In the winter, 4x4 or all wheel drive is mandatory. We have 3 parking spots. Please pull forward past the garage.

Great place!
A great house that is impeccably clean and well stocked. The owners are very responsive and communication is phenomenal. Super close to the slopes, although a little bit of a trek uphill. Great little spot!

Fantastic and comfortable house
Kathleen and Rex were great hosts and communicated really well. The house was very clean, had everything we needed and was in a great location for us. The walk up the street to the ski slope was easy for skiing "in and out" of the house. Catching the shuttle down the street was easy as well. The beds and bedding were very comfortable and the living spaces very relaxing.

Exceptional Mountain Getaway
The house was beautifully designed / decorated with such thoughtful detail. Could not have been easier to get on the mountain, and close to Umbrella bar which made for fun end of the day skis down. Short drive to town. Wonderful kitchen and living areas. This is a really spectacular place to stay and definitely will come back if available for our annual Crested Butte Ski weekend!

Faboulous Ski-in/Ski-out House
We stayed at Kathleen and Rex's house just prior to the pandemic lockdown in 2020 and had such a fabulous time that we decided to make our first pandemic vacation at the same house. Crested Butte ski area and the house were spot on as perfect as we remembered - the house even more-so with all the renovations they have done. Your first step into the house meets you with amazing views of the rolling snow covered hills and mountains due to the wall of windows on the back of the house. They are well insulated and tinted for when the bright CO sun shines in. The kitchen has all the utensils you might want for gourmet cooking, and the wood burning stove adds a nice warm touch to the family room atmosphere. We saw the incredibly dense starts at night through the near ceiling level windows in the master bedroom - so special. And the convenience of the 5 minute walk to/from the ski lifts make this place so convenient. Kathleen was an outstanding host making sure we had anything we needed and quickly responding to any questions we had. We will be back! Highly recommend to anyone interested in staying at CB.

Great ski vacation.
Our host provided timely, detailed information on the property complete with pre-arrival and check in information. The house is beautiful with walking distance to the ski lift. It is about a 2 block walk but it was a nice warm up in preparation for a day of skiing. The views from the house are beautiful and we felt relaxed the minute we walked in. The property is immaculate and the decor very modern, clean and comfortable. We will be staying here again next time we are in Crested Butte.

An Amazing Stay!
We had a wonderful stay at this property. Amazing views, comfortable and stylish décor, gourmet kitchen amenities, ski-in/ski-out access, friendly and helpful hosts – all made for a wonderful vacation stay. We came very close to staying at a base mountain condo, but a last minute find by our -daughter switched us to this beautiful house. So grateful for her find! The moment you walk in the door, the views of the mountains blow you away. The many large windows that span the main living area make for spectacular views from all vantage points in the room – from the comfortable window seats to cooking in the kitchen. The beds were all very comfortable, the house was spotless, and all amenities – from bathroom soaps to kitchen utensils were top notch. The kitchen in particular, is well stocked for folks who like to cook. We also enjoyed the ski-in/ski-out access. The lifts are about 2-3 blocks away - a 5-10 min walk up hill in the morning and downhill at the end of the day. Rex drove us up one morning and we walked the rest. One day we had our son shuttle us up with all the skis and then he walked back up. Rex and Kathleen are very friendly and helpful. They live nearby so they are around if you need them. They gave us great dinner recommendations and driving information. The morning we left it had snowed, so they were quick to clear the driveway and even brush off our car to help us make our early departure. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend this place. We hope to return again next year!

The home on the mountain was well located and afforded a beautiful view to the west. We were fortunate to be in CB during the wildflower Superbloom which enhanced our outdoor experiences. The neighbors Jesse and Lara were very friendly and quiet.

Nice place to stay
The house is comfortable with great views out to the valley. I didn't time the walk up to where you could ski down to the lift- was probably only 5 min or so but be warned that it is uphill and was tough on our kids with their ski equipment. After the first day, I'd drive the family to the end of the road and drop them off so they could avoid the trek. Skiing back to the house is possible but if you own your equipment you might want to get close and walk to avoid scratching up your skis. The mud room/entry to the house was great- a place to sit while you put on your boots and plenty of places to hang helmets and jackets on the wall. The listing states you'll need a 4wd vehicle to navigate the driveway and that is TRUTH! Even with 4WD it was occasionally sketchy. When we were leaving 3-4" of fresh snow made it difficult- fortunately the couple that live in the adjoining apt came out and helped us to finally make it up the hill (took about an hour). We packed all of our food for the week. We had already prepared the dinners and that made it a lot easier. The kitchen had some supplies but if you're going to be preparing meals for 6 people there might not be everything you need. There is a TV (we didn't use it much) but were no playing cards or board games so pack what you need.

BEAUTIFUL home! GREAT location.
Such a wonderful find for our family of 7! At the top of Mt. Crested Butte - away from the congestion of town, but super easy to go into town (think mountain bike down and ride bus up - haha). Hop on the mountain bike trail across the street, walk to the playground (and new outside exercise loop) and tennis courts. Beautiful views all around. The house is amazing - very simplistic in design and decor and so refreshing! Super clean and very comfy. We did enjoy hanging out in the front room with the fluffy rug! Kids LOVED the loft for sleeping - plenty of space for everyone. The kitchen was well-stocked and had exactly what we needed to cook and eat. Each bathroom had soap, shampoo/conditioner and body wash. The owners, Rex and Kathy, were accommodating and so personable. We enjoyed our visit with them and hope to return someday.

Absolutely perfect for our reunion!
We couldn't have picked a better place for our reunion and gathering spot for our good friend's wedding celebration. The view from every room is amazing…especially the main floor and outside deck. Although there were beds available, I chose to sleep on the bench next to the window where I watched the stars and full moon throughout the night, then watched the sun rise over the Rocky Mountains from the East, lighting up the mountains around us. We were a group of hikers and easily found many wonderful, absolutely beautiful hikes, hiking out the front door. The well outfitted kitchen and new bbq on the deck allowed us to have memorable meals around the dining room table overlooking the mountains. It is very easy to drive or walk into town…and the owners were more than pleasant to meet and work with. We all hope to return.

Great house and fantastic view.
This house has great sleeping accomodations, a nice kitchen, and a fantastic view. There are a couple things to know. One, you need to have a 4 wheel drive vehicle for the driveway and for driving into the ski resort/lift area. Also, a washer/dryer is not included in the rental. However, the owners are very accomodating people and allow you to use their washer/dryer. I would assume this would change in the future as more folks rent the house. Lastly, there isn't a grill so be prepared for alternate methods to prepare food. Lastly, there is a great hill behind the house for the kids to play in the snow and sled. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend this property. This is a new rental property so the owners will probably be making some adjustments as they get more reviews.

Serenity Now
I was fortunate enough to spend three weeks at this property last spring. It snowed it's guts out the second night I was there which set the stage for some great skiing. Crested Butte is second to none in terms of variety of terrain, and this house is situated perfectly for a ski vacation. If you are not a downhill skier it is still fine, since the views are outstanding, and it is also adjacent to some great cross country ski options. My go-to in that regard was the road up to Gothic, which is an out and back so you could make it as long or short as you wanted depending on time. It wasn't mountain bike season while I was there but you could certainly access Crested Butte's extensive trail system right out the front door. Recreational opportunities aside, the house itself is very warm and welcoming (woodstoves always feel homey to me). The paint color was also very much to my liking. The decor is tastefully done and the kitchen is very functional. The deck is great on a warm day. It's a 7 minute drive down to the town of Crested Butte which has a lot of great restaurants and pubs. The owners are great, the neighbors are great, all in all it was an enjoyable stay!

Amazing stay in this gorgeous house with the best hosts ever, wow!
If you get the lucky enough to stay at Rex and Kathy's ski house you've found the best spot around! This immaculate ski in and ski out home was not only beautifully decorated and meticulously maintained, but also cosy, convenient and the views nothing short of breathtaking, we can't wait to go back! And, Rex and Kathy were the most fun local hosts we have ever stayed with, there to help with anything needed along with great local recommendations for dinners out and spots to be sure not to miss. The chill zone was our favorite spot int he house and we enjoyed many lazy mornings there watching the weather roll across the mountains. Would highly recommend this home for any vacation stay and the BEST ONE in CB! WOOT!

Perfect getaway retreat!
I stayed here with a group of four other adults and we all loved this place! The home is so cozy and inviting and there's plenty of space for everyone to relax. We enjoyed the fireplace very much and appreciated that the hosts had wood chopped and stacked when we arrived. Everything was incredibly clean and the home is beautifully remodeled. The beds are incredibly comfortable and the morning sunrise through all the windows is amazing. The owners were extremely helpful and guided us to some of Crested Buttes most amazing trails, as well gave great advice on where to eat and have fun. Everyone in my group loved this place and we are definitely coming back to ski in the winter!!!! If you're coming to Crested Butte this is the house you want to stay at! Hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did!

What a wonderful place!
What a wonderful place in an amazing CO mountain town! We've stayed here a few times. Great location for skiing, biking or just relaxing and taking in the great views. Very clean, spacious accommodations and the owners were more than helpful. We'll be back to the Butte and we'll be staying here!

About the host

Hosted by Kathleen Summers and Rex Lint

Host profile image
We moved from Summit County Colorado to CB in 2012. We wanted to live in a place that had a small town vibe, access to world class mountain biking, skiing, and nature.
We are long time ski bums and have worked in the industry for the last 25 years. We run a film production company and travel the world making adventure sports related content for a variety of clients.

Why they chose this property

We have lived in this house for the past 8 years and without exception, everyone that walks into the house stops for a long moment and looks at the space and the views, and takes a deep breath and smiles. Most people just walk over to the bench and lay down! The space is truly unique and created with love. The access to Gold Link lift is a 5 minute walk uphill, so you can ride a quick lift and be in the Mountain Village in 15 minutes. If you want to go to town and you don't want to drive, it's a 5 min walk to the bus stop. The Mountain Express free shuttle stop closest to our house is Winterset & Gothic. There is also a late night Taxi Service that runs from 11 pm to 2 am. (970) 209-0509.

What makes this property unique

This property is unique because of it's close proximity to the ski hill and town of CB, but feels like your own private mountain retreat. It's a great basecamp to watch the day unfold as the clouds drift by. The sunrises and alpenglow at the end of the day are spectacular. Our house is a great place that your whole family or group will enjoy!
