An absolutely beautiful spot. Relaxing and quiet and our dogs had a blast being able to swim in the river right by the hut. Love to come back again soon.
Loved our stay here. We got to enjoy the tranquility of the surrounds with our pup during the day as well as keep cosy and warm with the fireplace at night. Was very relaxing. Would definitely stay here again.
WOW we had an amazing weekend away.
What a beautiful place inside and out. The cabin was clean and very warm. Our furbabies had an amazing time too. Will definitely be recommending this to my friends.
Our second stay here - An Absolute break away from the big smoke of Sydney- so easy to just unwind here with the flowing Howqua river and night time cosy fireplace and spa. We just love staying here. The host Andy and his dog Ruffy are just amazing. Thank you- we will be back.
Beautiful river frontage with a soaring oak tree.
As the weather was warm we even had a dip in the river.
Perfect place for us to celebrate our anniversary.
Perfect little weekend getaway. No phones, no people. We went for an explore along some near by tracks and went for a fish along the river. 10/10 recommend for couples wanting to get away!
We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at the cottage. It was tranquil, restful and had all the creature comforts of home. We took along our 2 dogs who had a ball swimming in the river and also walks in the nearby state park. Thanks to Andrew who was very pleasant and accommodating and we would have no hesitation returning or recommending the cottage to anyone.
Such an amazing stay. Our second time here and it couldnt be more perfect..especially when when my partner proposed by the water 💕💍
Thank you so much Andy and Penny for allowing us to stay on your beautiful property. Will definitely be back.

This was our second stay and it was equally delightful. The cottage is charming and simple with luxe flourishes but a very cosy, rugged vibe. So peaceful and the added bonus of an extremely comfortable bed.
Then you walk out the back door to discover your very own magic faraway tree and the stunning Howqua river right before you. Just birdsong and the flowing river to be heard.
The Miners Cottage is a perfect couples retreat. The home is well appointed and delightfully styled. The bed is so comfy! You can wander down to the river and enjoy all the wonderful bird life. The king parrot visits frequently and is adorable. Our dogs had a wonderful time and Andy was a fantastic host, easy to communicate with and suggested great local walks we could take the pups on. Would love to come back!
Warm cozy cottage for a late May stay. Cold outside and lovely in. Comfy bed.
Please note not fenced for dogs, so we had to keep our swimmers on lead outdoors which was fine. The dogs loved their “dog TV” watching animals on the farm through the windows. Short drive to good walks! Loved it.
Tranquil and peaceful. The cottage was cosy and clean with everything you need. Theres a running river that you can hear while in the cottage, green paddocks and cows. There is everything you need to keep a warm fire going
but heaters are available as well. To top it off is a friendly dog that welcomes you like an old friend.
My wife and I had a lovely week away at riverdowns, it was a lovely quite cabin.
The cabin has river access and we enjoyed spending some time in the river.
At night there is no light pollution and the stars were magnificent.
The owners were amazing people, very polite and helpful, they provided us with half a dozen dress eggs at the start if our stay and at one point our car battery went flat and they came over and helped us jump start out car off of theirs.
Overall my wife and I fully enjoyed our weeklong stay
We loved the Miner's Cottage and would stay again, the only thing is there is no internet access if you do need it. Also you need to bring your own shampoo as this isn't provided.. It may be a good idea to take some bottled water as you have to boil the water before you can drink it. Other than that we loved it, Andy was very friendly, the Cottage was lovely the bed was really comfortable, lovely walks along the river, we didn't want to leave.. Thanks for a lovely stay and for the fresh egg's Andy and Penny..
Fabulous place for a weekend and very thoughtfully kitted out. But no Wi-Fi (despite the listing saying it had it) and no phone reception made a longer stay quite stressful. Apparently there has been no Wi-Fi for some months so it was not acceptable to tell us this only the day before arriving. The owner may think it unimportant but that is for us to decide.
My husband and I loved the location with the Howqua river a stones throw from the hut. Although an old hut it’s tastefully restored with all mod cons- dishwasher; spa; a/c. We’d love a return visit.
An absolute gem of a property, clean, comfortable and cosy. Loved the hot tub and fireplace. The river and tranquility were perfect. We will be back- there’s nothing to fault at all.
Tranquil and peaceful, back door opening to Howqua River. Cottage is well equipped for luxurious stay in the country, pristine gardens and absolute peace and privacy.
We had a very relaxing time away this property was so cosy and the land had beautiful surroundings and well maintained.

Born in Melbourne but I moved here from Jindabyne, NSW. I have been a fishing guide for over 25 years, and for 18 years I ran a ski lodge in Perisher Valley.
Why they chose this property
Proximity to the river and holiday letting potential. The property feels remote but is readily accessible from Mansfield and is close to the resorts of Buller and Stirling for skiing. The Howqua is an iconic Victorian trout stream and the fishing can be fantastic.
What makes this property unique
Properties with Howqua frontage are like hens teeth. There was nothing better at the time we bought, and there has been nothing better since.
