Paradise! With bunnies and a gift shop.
As advertised and more! It was a shame we didn't have time to thoroughly explore their beautiful grounds and giftshop. I told my wife about the highly rated vegetation cafe and she said, "well I'm not a vegetarian.". Then she tried the tiny fresh baked loaf of sweet bread they kindly left in the fridge(perfect after volcano viewing snack), Then when I asked "How about now?". She replied "I think I might be a vegetarian!". Delicious! Thanks again for a wonderful stay!

Adorable cabin in great location
Ira has cultivated an incredible gallery and café. The cabin itself is quite intimate but has everything you might need. The garden is absolutely stunning and you can't beat the proximity to Volcano National Park.

Nice cottage in Volcano
Quiet, private cottage for 2. Very close to Volcano Natl park. Also convenient to Hilo airport. Lots of little touches, fruit, yogurt, fresh bread and milk in fridge. Books and dvds for rainy days. Not fancy, but clean and well appointed, at a reasonable price. Would stay again.

Secluded and Quiet
This property is in a very quiet part of Hawaii. It is secluded from any neighbors or road noise. Owner is very nice. You MUST eat at the restaurant on the property, it is phenomenal. The cottage had thoughtful touches. Again, the town of Volcano is very quiet.

Romantic get-away
This is a small beautiful cottage on a beautiful piece of property with many gardens with a Japanese theme. The windows are so clean you would think there is no glass. Very close to Volcanoe National Park which was a primary reason we booked. Old Volcanoe road is an artist community with many galleries showcasing local artist such as Ira ono.

Heavenly Gardens
The gardens are so peaceful! The pics of the cottage don’t show how small it is but the gardens are so worth it. It should be noted that you can’t walk around to the far side of the bed. The bathroom is lovely and the cafe on site was great! There was lots to do in the area and there is a coin washer/dryer a couple blocks away if you need it. Great stay!

Home at the Volcano
My husband and I stayed for two. Igor’s while exploring VNP. We felt right at home, enjoyed the zen shower, the delicious fruits, the beautiful gardens, and eating at Cafe Ono. Unfortunately, the hot tub was out of order, however, Ira made it right by giving us a lunch voucher to Cafe Ono.

Great Location and Special Property!
This property had the best location as it was about 1 mile from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The cottage was located mid way back and on the side of the property. Ira was in his workshop when we arrived and greeted us personally. We could walk the entire property including the small nature garden in the back which was truly a special place. We also received a discount at the Gallery and Restaurant. Thank you for the great stay!

Outstanding Rainforest Cottage
This cottage is like a dream come true! It’s so lush and beautiful! It’s well equipped with more than just the necessities. We didn’t have a chance to visit the cafe, but the host provided sweet bread, yogurt, coffee, and milk/juice in the fridge. The heater was necessary since we visited during the rainy season. The host took great care to reduce humidity and the impact of being in a rainforest as much as possible. The shower is to die for!

Lovely garden cottage
We enjoyed 2 relaxing nights at Ira’s beautiful property. He was there in his studio when we arrived and was happy to show us to the cozy cottage. We had everything that we needed and enjoyed our own hot tub for a soak after a long day of travel. The location is perfect for a stay in Volcano, minutes from VNP and many restaurants nearby. We missed out on Cafe Ono, that is located on the property, as they were closed the days we were there. The garden is amazing and a great place to begin or end your day. Mahalo Ira!

bday getaway
The attention to detail was unexpected and very thoughtful. Following our evening arrival, we were grateful to find everything we could want to get our vacation started here in this cozy, and well cared for cottage. Fresh bread, fruit, and other simple yet delightful items were provided that made our stay easy. The property is lovely, with plenty of unique, beautiful and creative garden spaces to saunter, relax and enjoy the natural environment in a private setting. The cafe and art gallery/shop are wonderful! So many artists represented and great stories regarding their craft. Ira is a warm and gracious host. We would love to stay here again.

Cute cottage
The cottage was cute. There is no AC so make sure you know things can get stuffy during the day. At night, cooler temps so make sure to dress accordingly. The yogurt in fridge was past due date (May 02 was date and we stayed June 14) so we tossed it. There was no banana bread as stated in listing but a couple slices of rye bread was left. A few sodas and some milk were in fridge which was nice and coffee maker was a life saver.

What makes this property unique

Volcano Village has been hailed as a model "gateway town" to a major national park. Instead of strip malls, fast food restaurants and hotel chains, visitors approaching Hawaii Volcanoes National Park see...trees. Most houses, and even businesses, are tucked back in the cool high-altitude tropical rainforest. They're surrounded by native ohia trees, luxurious giant tree ferns, and native birds found nowhere else on earth. It's place where you can have all the privacy you want. At night, guests at the Artist's Cottage share the grounds only with Nobel the rescued rabbit—but are still only a short walk from the village center. It’s the sort of place where people not only feel safe to go for a walk at night but will give a friendly wave to strangers.

Such a place draws a unique breed of resident. Geologists, artists, nature lovers from all over the world, as ethnically diverse as they are tolerant and creative, call Volcano "home." It's a great place to have fascinating chat over a leisurely meal at one of the village's five restaurants, including award-winning Cafe Ono, here on the grounds. (There no fast food chains here, and people like it that way).

A few minutes' drive away is the summit caldera of Kilauea, the world's most active volcano, where thousands of visitors a year come to stare down from the observation platform at the glowing, sometimes fountaining lava in the crater below, or to hike through the park's lush rainforests and stark black lavascapes. Many visitors often drive down to the coast in Puna to see the steam cloud where the lava flow meets the ocean.

About 45 minutes away from is the City of Hilo and a string of picturesque small beach parks, perfect for snorkeling. Just south of the park are the volcanic black sand beaches and spectacular mountain scenery of rural, sparsely-populated Ka'u District, whose farmers are renowned for producing delicious macadamia nuts and some of the best coffee in the world.
