About this property

Family Villa in Barga with expansive terrace, stunning views & air con bedrooms.

Al Sasso occupies a prime position in the historical Tuscan hillside town of Barga. It offers a large secluded terrace and sunny mature gardens in a quiet cul de sac. A few minutes walk from the medieval 'old town' where the impressive 'Duomo' sits imperiously astride the hilltop. Shops and local restaurants are only a short stroll away. Barga itself boasts a beautiful open air pool (early June until early September) and tennis courts and is an ideal base for exploring the Garfagnana, the historic walled town of Lucca and the coastal resorts on the Tuscan Riviera.

Home from home
This property had lots of little bits that make a rental more personal. This allows you to relax and feels more like your at home. The house itself is very large with plenty room. It’s not modern but we found that added to the character. The terrace give s a stunning view. We loved it

Fantastic
We stayed during may with our children . We couldn’t have been happier with the accommodation which was light, spacious, beautifully decorated and with all mod cons. The huge outdoor space (terrace and gardens) was thoroughly enjoyed by us . The owners (a lovely family) were on hand if we needed anything ,as was Charlene. Perfect base for exploring and only 5 mins walk to Barga . Would highly recommend this accommodation for anyone visiting with children or a couple/family looking for a private, beautiful setting to relax and unwind Anthony, Charlene were brilliant. incredibly helpful, knowledgable and friendly. We will definitely book through them again.

Spacious Villa with Beautiful View
Five seniors stayed at this lovely villa in Barga and we really enjoyed our stay. The villa is spacious and had everything we needed and room for all of us. The kitchen was stocked with pantry items and Charlene, the caretaker, brought us coffee, biscuits, milk, tea and wine when we checked in. There were plenty of pots & pans and dishes for cooking. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were large. We spent most of our time (when it wasn't raining) on the spacious terrace that has an amazing view. The villa is in a great location - walking distance to Old Town Barga. We enjoyed Barga, even though there is a lot of uphill walking, and the beauty of the Garfagnana. Our favorite restaurant was L'Osteria - great food and friendly staff! The re-enactment of the Battle of Barga took place while we were there and we enjoyed seeing that and taking part in the festivities. I would definitely recommend this villa for your holiday in Barga. Anthony and Charlene were always in communication and will answer any questions you have. The villa was clean and well stocked. It was unusually warm, humid and rainy when we were there and there was no air conditioning, but room fans were all we needed. The villa is in a great location to explore - we went to Lucca, Sommacolonia and the coast all within an hours drive. The only negative of this villa is that there was a musty smell in the house, which was probably enhanced because of the humid weather and the age of the home. The photos of this home are accurate - it's just as you see it. I loved it and I thank Anthony for sharing it with us. And, thanks to Charlene for the warm welcome!

Perfect retreat in Barga
This house has everything you would need for a comfortable stay in the town of Barga. The rooms are spacious and the house comes fully equipped as per the property description. The owner has compiled an Information Folder - full of useful information on places to visit and lots about the local history. There are lots of other books and tourist maps etc. in the dining and sitting rooms. The best area of the house is the Terrace - leading straight from the kitchen. The views are just beautiful - if you get good weather during your stay, you will find it difficult to leave the terrace!! A bit of advice - I would recommend you hire a car to visit the other wonderful hilltop towns in the area, furthermore, I would recommend a smaller car such as a "Cinque Cento" (Fiat 500). Some of the roads in the area are quite narrow - a smaller car will give you more room. Overall a great experience - I would highly recommend this property to couples and families alike.

Great property in a lovely town
We had a great time in Barga. The villa is really big and on a quiet road. We were 4 adults and 2 small children and there was masses of space inside and outside for us all. It's also really well stocked with things for kids (high chair, plastic plates and cups etc) and with the basics (dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid etc) which made our trip really easy. It's only a short walk (less than 5 mins) into Barga old town and you can drive down easily to the new town for the supermarket etc. The chocolate and ice cream shop just down the road is highly recommended too! Only 2 things I would mention - it's got tiled floors so bring slippers! (we went in April) and we should have hired a smaller car as it was a bit tight in and out of the car parking but we managed it ok.

Lovely traditional Italian house with amazing views.
This is a much larger property than we expected. It is spacious, traditional, nicely furnished and has amazing views from the balcony. It is so clean and the owner was so helpful. I cannot recommend this property highly enough.

Wonderful Views and lots of space.
Fabulous views of the Duomo and surrounding hills from a very spacious patio at the rear of the house. Great views also from the little garden opposite the house. Patio has plenty of new chairs and a large umbrella for shade. Parking space for two cars although getting in and out is a bit tricky. Kitchen is very well equipped with plenty of glasses, china, dishes. Spare glasses are available in the dining room. Toaster, Espresso/Cappuccino machine are available. Interior of the house is very spacious with very comfortable chairs in the living room. Bedrooms are spacious with plenty of hanging space and drawers. Bed linens are high quality and very large bath towels are provided. Beds fairly comfortable. The downstairs bedrooms share a large bathroom with shower. Upstairs bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom with bath/shower combination. Location is great for walking into the old town where there are many good restaurants. Also it’s a nice walk down to the Alpino, in the new town. Overall experience very relaxing, we enjoyed our two week stay very much. Overall, Via Sasso is a very nice place and we would recommend it to anyone.

A Better Property would not have been possible
We absolutely loved our stay at Anthony's villa. Although only 3 bedroom it felt like a castle with all the space in it. The rooms are a great size for having guests round and entertaining . We even managed a game of table tennis in his games room in the basement. When back in Barga we will definitely look to book here again.

Beautiful home in perfect location
This is a lovely villa in a great location for exploring Barga and the surrounding areas. It's less than five minutes walk to the old town but tucked away down a peaceful street. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable and have everything you need. The outdoor seating areas around the villa catch the sun all day, although the large terrace with views out over the landscape is the best place to relax. We'll definitely be back!

Lovely Home
We spent a few weeks in this lovely home. The location is ideal - a few minutes walk from the restaurants and shops in Barga yet on a tranquil street with a picturesque view. The house is spacious with modern bathrooms and great showers. While there is a train station in Barga, we had a car and drove to Lucca to catch the train to Floremce and other cities. The wi-fi worked well with a strong connection. We hope to return to beautiful Barga and stay here again.

Fantastic vacation home
We spent 3 weeks in this villa and felt very much at home. It sits on a picturesque ridge bordered on both sides by a valley and a mountain range offering changing scenic views. The lane is very quiet and the neighbors are friendly with only a 2 minute walk to the village. The house and the garden are so spacious allowing for all to have their privacy. All the items you need to cook and to eat are available. The showers are perfect, pressure and temperature wise. The wifi signal is strong. The flat screen TV is large and the reception is good with many channels. The washing machine works fine. The beds are firm and comfortable. The owner is helpful and responsive. He does everything to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. In conclusion this is just a great place to vacation

Lovely, spacious house in great location
We enjoyed a lovely week in this spacious and comfortable house. It was clean, warm and well equipped, just as described. We felt as if we were staying in a welcoming family home rather than an anonymous holiday home. There was plenty outdoor space to enjoy in a peaceful setting only a few minutes' walk from Barga old town. The owner was very helpful, giving plenty of information and dealing with all queries promptly and in a friendly way. Barga is a lovely small town in stunning countryside and is well worth a visit. We would definitely recommend both the house and the area for a family holiday. (Family with children)

Wonderful holiday home
This is a terrific home to enjoy your holiday in the Barga area, the terrace is fantastic with stunning views of the countryside & also for alfresco dining. The home is very comfortable with everything you require for your stay, there is also lots of information for trips if you are not familiar with the Barga area, if your not driving there are good links to local transport nearby with access to Lucca for ongoing excursions. An excellent holiday destination ! Carol & Joe

Stunning villa with mesmerising views
We so enjoyed our two-week stay here - our high expectations were only exceeded, this was Italy at her best. It was as if the owner had just popped out such was the home from home feel in this spacious and well appointed villa. The vast terrace became a seamless extension of the house with birdsong and the occasional Duomo bells our companions - so very quiet and peaceful, yet all that beautiful Barga offers minutes walk away. We often opted to return to the terrace and enjoy 'Tuscan fare' as where could possibly compare with that vista. Having two bathrooms affords great flexibility, suiting both friends and families with appeal across the generations. All dealings with the owners were friendly, informative and, most importantly, speedy - nothing was too much trouble.

Wonderful views with a personal touch
Lovely stay at this house in Barga. The views from the terrace and the lovely garden is wonderful to relax in, while the kids enjoyed bouncing on the trampoline for hours. Barga itself is a really lovely town with many nice restaurants and gorgeous quiet narrow streets leading up to the duomo. The house if full of personal touches, which makes the stay instantly feel like a home away from home and the communication and service from the home owner was really fantastic. Great stay in Italy - thank you!

The Real Deal
If you want an authentic Italian experience in a traditional family home then look no further than this lovely villa which offers an amazing view of the mountains and valley whilst being only a two minute walk from the beautiful old town which has its fair share of wonderful restaurants and quaint shops , not forgetting the fantastic home made ice cream shop on the main street . Whether you are looking for a family holiday or simply the chance to sip wine and munch some locally grown olives with friends on the large sun terrace with its expansive views of the surrounding country side , this is the perfect holiday destination for lovers of all things truly Italian. The owner takes great pride in making sure your stay is comfortable and it's great value for money . Looking forward to coming back again this year !

Great stay
This is a great villa to explore the area around Barga. We've stayed here a number of times now. It's been ideal as a family villa being on a safe quiet street. It's a minute's walk from the centre of town close to shops and restaurants. The views across the valley are awesome and while close to the centre of town it's quiet at night and cool enough in summer to sleep well. The terrace is particularly nice in summer. Barga is ideally placed to explore Tuscany in summer but also close to skiing at Abetone. Great place for a family holiday.

Perfect Italian Villa
If you want a quiet, relaxing holiday look no further than Barga - and this clean, functional typically Italian Villa. We had the most perfect weather - in October - fantastic views from the terrace and a short walk away the Duomo, an historic cathedral. The panoramic view from here is breath-taking. The owner provided accurate directions/maps from Pisa airport to the property and upon arrival you will find a large amount of local information for you to plan/organise your stay. There is a table tennis table in the cellar if you feel the need to burn off some of the pasta you will have eaten in two of the local restaurants barely 5 minutes away....Riccardo's and L'Altana. Both recommended. The old town of Barga is a maze of alleyways just waiting to be explored, history oozes from every building. A perfect Tuscan town, a perfect Tuscan villa.

Great holiday accommodation
If you would like to absorb a little of the Tuscany way of life then I would like to recommend that you spent a week or more at this lovely holiday home. It is full of character, it's spacious, clean, and has a comfortable large double bed with great en suite facilities. There is a large terrace with great views. The sky on a clear night will display many stars as there are few street lights. The walk up hill to the church is well worth it as the views are spectacular. The local village of Barga is very quaint with a few good restaurants. If you want to go further and don't mind driving for a couple of hours it is an easy drive to Pisa, the coast and to spend a day at Florence. However, it is possible to spend the week just exploring Barga and the near by villages and to just enjoy this holiday home. My husband and I loved Italy, the Italian people and the way of life!
