La Canardière is a lovingly restored, (renovations finished in 2022) character farmhouse in a tranquil, elevated setting, yet conveniently just minutes away from the village of St Antonin-du-Var and 8kms from Lorgues with its fabulous weekly market. It has its own private, floodlit pool with pool alarm, located on one of the terraces below the house complete with its own outdoor bar and plenty of sun loungers. The main house has four bedrooms and two bathrooms, a kitchen, living room, dining room and a cave for cool storage and is surrounded by shady terraces for outdoor dining and seating, making the most of the glorious views. There is a guest cottage in the grounds that sleeps two and has its own modest facilities and an outdoor shower! Around the house, the grounds are extensive, terraced and rambling with olive and fruit trees, lavender and plenty of wild Provençal herbs you can use in your cooking. There's an outdoor table tennis table, boules, barbecue, a hammock and toys and games for kids.
La Canardière is ideal for families or for groups of individuals. It has been in our family for 30 years and these days it is looked after by three sisters, Caroline, Marita and Julie, and managed for us by a local team, who will be there to welcome you and are a phone call away in case of need.
The location is rural yet convenient and wonderful for exploring the surroundings. The village of Saint Antonin-du-Var has its own bakery, shop, post office, tennis court, and friendly hotel, bar and restaurant, as well as the best pizza ever, made with fresh and organic local ingredients and baked in a wood-fired oven by the lady with the pizza stand in the main square. Not to mention a few wineries, including Les Treilles d'Antonin which we thoroughly recommend. Lorgues, 15 minutes away, has a superb weekly Provençal market. The beautiful 'village in the sky', Tourtour is a must-visit, as is the 'Grand Canyon' of Provence, the Gorges du Verdon, to the north. The coast is 45 minutes' drive to the south, so a fun day trip, and we can recommend the boat crossing from the harbour of Ste Maxime as a great way to visit St Tropez without the hassle of traffic jams and parking.
For the active, nearby activities including kayaking and rafting, horse riding, cycling, walking and wild swimming in nearby rivers. The trail that follows the disused railway track runs not far from the house and is an easy, level cycle ride to Lorgues and beyond in one direction and to the pottery town of Salernes in the other. For road biking enthusiasts, La Canardière is really well situated for some superb rides and we are working to make it more bike friendly, with room to store bikes in the garage and basic tools and bike washing facilities. May, June and September are ideal for biking, with the weather usually pleasant and the roads less busy than in July and August. There are also a number of beautiful golf courses within reach.
There are some excellent restaurants in and around Lorgues and we have lots of recommendations for wineries, restaurants and places to visit which you will find in a folder on your arrival. We also regularly post interesting activities, new finds and more photos on the La Canardière Facebook page.
