Summer stay in a cosy house
Lucy is a very kind host and provided us with fresh vegetables, recommendations and a well equiped kitchen. A plus are the short distances to the public transport and the village, a minus is the traffic directly in front.

Perfect spot!
We stayed in many vacation rentals during our 6 weeks in northern Spain, and this was the best! We loved the area for hiking and enjoyed returning to this charming cottage to enjoy the patio in the late afternoon sun or to get a cozy fire going in the fireplace at night. Lucy was very helpful and attentive. We would recommend this to anyone who is comfortable with stone steps.

Wonderful holiday!
We had a wonderful holiday at Casa Petirrojo, celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary. The accommodation was excellent, spotless, warm, well organised and had everything we required. The setting was quite spectacular and the Casa was in easy reach (a short walk) of all amenities. With plenty of walks and outstanding scenery in every direction, you would need weeks and weeks to experience everything on offer, but we did pretty well and will definitely be back. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Ausgezeichnet

Fantastic stay in a first class property
Right from the start Lucy and Simon's response time was quick, so we had no worries there. The directions they gave us from the airport to the property was easy to follow. Lucy was there to meet us with a welcoming bottle off wine and a lovely bowl off fruit and showed us around the property. The property it self was first class very clean and everything you need ( Home from Home). There was no parking at the property but there is a large car park nearby 3 min walk away. It was lovely to be woken up each morning with the church bells and the views from the property to die for. As keen bird watchers Lucy recommended a couple off places to visit, which we took up and glad we did saw Lammergeier close up and Red kite on the nest, the only downfall we didn't get to see the wall creeper, in a two week stay in the Pyrenees 8 days in Torla and 5 days in the lowlands we got to see 143 species. Torla it self is an ideal base to explore the Pyrenees, there are plenty off bars and places to eat thou we did eat in a lot . The locals were very friendly and helpful. Overall we can see why Lucy and Simon fell in love with this place, we have toured all over Spain and this is the first time in the Pyrenees, and like they say we have saved the best to last. We will definitely be back. Thank you for letting us stay in your lovely property. Janet Dale

Fantastic stay in the Ordessa valley
Great location in the Pyrenees. The decor is awe inspiring. Excellent site for outdoor activities like hiking. Torla is a small and very charming village that has all the commodities required for an enjoyable stay. The house itself is small, but comfortable and has all the necessary amenities. It's most appropriate for 4 to 5 people. It's next to the main road that passes next to the village, so you hear traffic passing by during the day when the windows are open, but it's very quiet at night. We really enjoyed our stay and would return again. Thanks Lucy!

Terrific Torla!
A lovely friendly welcome from Lucy, very helpful to be shown the workings of the house. The house was super, everything we needed for our stay. The Red guide book was excellent much better than the Cicerone one we brought with us. Torla is a buzz of a wee mountain town, with the house so well placed to be able to nip up a few steps and be in the centre. We thoroughly enjoyed walking every day and seeing the autumn colours develop throughout the week. There are good walks starting from the house, nice not to use the car.

Top Marks for Casa Petirrojo
Casa Petirrojo in Torla gets top marks for people, practicalities and location. Lucy and Simon, the owners, are kind, helpful and knowledgeable; the accommodation has all that is expected from the specification and it all works; the location is ideal in terms of access to the mountains and the abundant natural history. We were especially interested in flowers and it is hard to imagine a better place in May or June; we did good walks of the relatively easy kind but there are clearly opportunities for more heroic efforts too. We can't praise it too highly.

Great spot
We had a lovely week in this cottage in Torla. Usually we look for cottages in the middle of nowhere but it was actually really nice to be able to walk into the village and buy bread in the morning and have a beer in the warm evenings - there was a nice buzz in the place. As warned, the Ordesa valley was a bit busy in August but there were other beautiful valleys to explore close by. We spotted lots of different butterflies, lizards, birds (saw a lammergeier ) and snakes. The cottage was very clean and well-maintained and looks like it does in the listing. I thought the road might be noisy but it was fine and we liked hearing the church clock chime. We couldn't always find a parking space close-by but never had to walk longer than five minutes - not arduous. We enjoyed a days canyoning and also a 4x4 trip above the valley. Temperature ranged from low to upper twenties - I don't know if that's typical for August there. I would certainly recommend.

Excellent and well located house in Torla
This a lovely and very well provided house in an excellent position on the edge of Torla centre. It would have been nice to have had a slightly closer and more dedicated parking space but the absence of this did not detract in any significant way from our wonderful vacation in Casa Petirrojo or cause us any real inconvenience. We would happily recommend the house to anyone looking for a convenient and comfortable base from which to explore this part of the Pyrenees. The booking process was easy and our host more than helpful and informative. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

Great accommodation in a great village that has all you need set in beautiful surroundings - what more could you ask for? Definately recommend. Many thanks for accommodating our week stay with the ferry times too - helped enormously with our trip. Will come again. Many thanks again.

Torla - Gateway to the High Mountains
Torla is a beautiful village with everything you need for a great holiday. Wifi in the tourist office where you will be welcomed to the area. Plenty of bars and the nearest tapas bar round the corner is lovely. The owner really is mein host and ask him about his son's football career too. The beauty of the house is that you can put your boots on and start walking out the door into the most spectacular scenery. The bus service up to the Park Ordesa is the jewel in the crown as you pop out the door and fifteen minutes later are up over 1200 metres in the most amazing place. Once you arrive there are so many trails to go up you are spoilt for choice. Or you may choose just to take the bus so you can copy a couple sitting next to us. They went straight to the Best Bar In The Universe (copyright me!) and ordered steak and chips and a bottle of red wine. The house has all you need for a great holiday. Lots of bedrooms and a terrace. What more do your need? Thank you Lucy for a fantastic holiday in one of the most beautiful places on our planet.

Torla the Magnificent
We spent a week in Lucy and Simon's lovely house in late July/early August of 2014. It was one of the best holidays we've had as a family and Torla itself is an amazing place to have as a base. The village is a beautiful, traditional Spanish Pyreneean village and has enough bars and good restaurants to keep you occupied in the evenings. We particularly enjoyed the small, authentic tapas bar A Borda Samper which was tucked down a side street close to the house. The bar at the far end of the street has a fantastic, sunny terrace which offers spectacular views of the encircling mountains. The walking is incredible and offers landscapes and scenery that are some of the most stunning and beautiful I have ever seen. Take the bus up to Ordesa National Park and walk up the trail to Monte Perdido in an almost beautifully hyper real world of orchids, waterfalls, pastures and cows with Alpine bells around their necks. Our teenage boys loved the Version Original facility on the TV(!) which put TV programmes back into English and utilised the Wi-Fi facilities at the close to hand Tourist Information on the main square. They also loved swimming in the freezing mountain pools of the nearby river. Rather them than me! I rarely revisit the same place on holiday but look forward to experiencing the beauty and tranquillity of Torla and its environs in the future.

Perfect all round
The house was delightful - exceptionally well equipped and spacious. Lovely little terrace to sit and have breakfast. Location was perfect, literally a few minutes walk into Torla which has a good selection of bars and restaurants. Plenty of lovely walks right from the front door - no need to drive anywhere. Lucy and Simon were both very welcoming - nice touch was the welcome pack of fruit and wine.

IDYLLIC STAY
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Torla is a real jewel, the locals friendly, excellent quality food and drink are available at very reasonable prices. The house is very comfortable and well equipped and makes an excellent base for striking out into the nearby Ordesa National for adventurous types or for just chilling on the patio. Would not hesitate to recommend this house for a great break.

Awesome views!
The house was generously proportioned for our family of five; it was properly clean, and it was well equipped and well presented. Lucy's welcome was much appreciated particularly as we speak no Spanish - she filled us in on everything. Location wise the hiking was spectacular, and when our kids wanted a day off from walks, there was a local pool to relax at. Shopping for souvenirs and eating out in the village was fun in the evenings. All in all a fabulous week. Thank you

Splendid
We absolutely fell in love with Torla and Ordesa National Park and the surrounding area. The scenery is stunning, the walks plentiful, and there is plenty of wildlife. The house was very clean and very comfortable, the owners were very friendly and helpful, and Torla itself had everything you need just a two minute walk away. We are planning to return very soon.

About the host

Hosted by Lucy and Simon

Host profile image
We are an English family who moved here 12 years ago after falling in love with this stunning and unspoilt corner of the Spanish Pyrenees. We are keen outdoor and wildlife enthusiasts, and this is reflected in the activity holidays we run during the year. This area is perfect for hiking, wildlife watching, including the endangered lammergeier, enjoying local cuisine and produce, and seeing the huge variety of Pyrenees flowers and butterflies. We also grow a lot of our own organic vegetables and fruit, so summer and autumn visitors are often welcomed with samples of our homegrown produce!
We live in a nearby village, so we normally welcome guests on arrival and are on hand to offer local advice or answer any questions you may have, to ensure you make the most of your stay.

Why they chose this property

The house is set apart from the bustle of the village yet close enough to be just 3 minutes walk up the steps to shops and amenities. It is south facing and has its own terrace. We clean and maintain the property ourselves and take great care to ensure you have everything you need for your stay. This includes basics such as toilet and kitchen rolls, teabags, coffee, sugar, oil, herbs, washing up liquid, washing powder etc. We prepare the beds according to the guest's requests and even put duvets on the beds in the winter. Bathroom, kitchen towels and bed linen are included in the price
Because we just live further down the valley we are on hand for any questions or advice.

Torla is in the heart of the Central Spanish Pyrenees. At 1100m altitude it is high enough to provide a lush green landscape even in summer yet far enough east to escape the rainfall more associated with the western Pyrenees. Not only is Torla the closest place to stay for walkers wanting to explore the National Park of Ordesa and Monte Perdido but Torla itself is also a great place to walk from, with numerous ancient footpaths to explore. Torla lies at the head of the valley of Ara, named after the river which is just 5 mins walk from the house. There is superb white water rafting in the spring and several secluded spots along this pristine river for a dip in summer. For Romanesque and Medieval architecture, Jaca to the West and Ainsa to the East are a short drive away.

What makes this property unique

The house is perfectly situated for quick access to the Ordesa National Park, whether in your own car or going by the shuttle bus which leaves from a stop 150m away. The pretty medieval village of Torla with its small shops and range of restaurants and bars is just 3 minutes walk up some steps. The house is south-facing and well sheltered so the sun terrace is the perfect place for dining “al fresco” from spring through to autumn. During the summer, the giant fig tree in front of the terrace provides welcome shade. Because the bedrooms are set on 2 different floors this provides maximum privacy between parents and older children or between 2 couples, each with their own bathroom. Conversely the upstairs rooms are ideal for younger families.
