Traditional Ski Cabin in lovely forest setting in Äkäslompolo, Ylläs

Log cabin 'Aurora' is set in the beautiful mountain area of Ylläs; Finland's number 1 ski resort. With a setting high above the Arctic Circle, the guaranteed snow throughout the skiing season makes for a perfect winter holiday. Ylläs has that special combination of peace and tranquility, yet all the winter activities you would expect from snow boarding to husky sledging and of course beginners and advanced skiing facilities. However, Aurora offers year round pleasures, as each new season arrives they each bring their own delights. In the long summer days warm temperatures mean walking, fishing, hiking, cycling and canoeing are a pleasure. As the seasons change the magnificent Northern Lights become visible and of course Santa Claus awaits children in his home just a short walk from the cabin. At the centre of this experience, Log cabin Aurora has been designed and finished to make your stay special. A home from home you will want to come back to whichever season you choose.

Perfect Lapland getaway
From start to finish Linda has been fantastic answering all questions we had even down to recommendations for trips and restaurants… cabin is amazing the pictures don’t do it justice.. couldn’t have asked for a better location 10 min walk one way to the shops and frozen lake 2 mins walk the other way to a fantastic woodland walk .. seen the lights 3 times in 7 days, temp was around -23 most days so lovely to come back to a warm cosy cabin and use the sauna. Will be booking again for this new years too !! Both my kids (13) and (15) have travelled the world with us and had many experiences but we have all agreed this has been the best holiday we’ve had …. Thank you

This was honestly one of our most magical holidays we have ever had. We wanted to take the children to Lapland but we didn't want to spend a fortune on an organised tour and I am so glad we did it on our own instead of paying a huge amount of money for a tour company to stick us on a bus with dozens of other people! The cabin was completely magic; cosy, warm, great sauna, kitchen had everything we needed, lovely log fire with unlimited wood etc. It is a few minutes walk to the supermarket and nice restaurants so if we didn't feel like cooking we could head out. There is a hotel one minute walk away which did a good buffet lunch and dinner as well. The children also loved pulling the food shopping back from the supermarket on the sledges! The cabin is in a really safe quiet spot so the children could play for hours in the snow with the hosts sledges on their own without us worrying. We booked everything with Snow Fun Safaris who picked us up from our cabin (though the office is one minute walk away) so we did Husky farm sledding, reindeer rides, Snowmobile, Father Christmas, Aurora. We also managed to do two days skiing which we organised when we were there. Everything is incredibly easy and accessible from the cabin and everyone is so helpful with fluent English. Linda was the most fantastic host; organising our airport transfers and replying within minutes to any questions we had. The children are already asking if we can go back next Winter! Truly wonderful stay.

The perfect cabin
We have just returned from a 5 night stay at Mark & Linda's cabin. We have loved every minute of our stay and didn't want to come home. Communication throughout has been excellent, Mark & Linda could not have been any more helpful when advising us on transport, excursions and the area. The cabin itself is lovely, really well equipped and in a brilliant location. It's just a short walk away form all the amenities but tucked away so you still feel like you have your privacy. Would highly recommend, we were a group of 3 adults and 2 children and there was plenty of space for us all. Thank you Mark & Linda, we will definitely be back! xx

Fabulous warm and cosy Cabin set in beautiful woodland
We have just returned from the most magical trip ever and loved our stay at the wonderful Aurora cabin. The Cabin is situated in a beautifully wooded area. The fully equipped Cabin was extremely warm and cosy. We just loved sitting in front of the roaring fire playing Monopoly, drinking wine and looking at the pics of our day. We used the sauna every evening. The clothes dryer airing cupboard was an absolute dream. Bedding is an additional cost over and above the rental cost so please factor this in during your stay and request. We were lucky enough to see the northern lights from the Cabin and then ran down to Akaslompolo Lake (behind supermarket) for a better vista – wow! The Cabin is about a 10 min walk from the village. It has a great supermarket (coffee shop within) and quite a few restaurants dotted around. Should you wish to eat out we dined at Evaskori (casual amazing pizza), Otso (delish pot pies), Rouhe (slightly more finer). Food in all restaurants was fabulously tasty and would recommend any of these restaurants. As recommended by Linda, with 10% discount, we booked our trips through Snow Fun Safaris for our snow mobile/reindeer, snow mobile/husky and magical Santa days out. Remember your driving licenses. The staff at Snow Fun were fabulous, they looked after us so well and we cannot recommend this company enough. The Yllas Ski Resort is a short 5-7 min local bus journey ride away. You can visit the other side of the mountain a further 15-20 mins and would recommend this for taking the gondolas up the Mountain. The bus stop is just at the Hotel Yllaskaltio, you’ll pass this on the road to the cabin. The airport bus also stops at this hotel which is only 18-euro adult/8 a child one way. Linda kindly booked us a local taxi for our arrival at 105-euro, but we did get the bus back to the airport which ran like clockwork. Snow Fun Safaris helped us out there with the timetable. Linda the owner is amazingly helpful – no question was too small for her and we cannot thank her enough for assisting with all my queries and bookings.

Love it
My second stay here with my children (this time aged 13 and 10), ever since our first trip they've begged to come back. Visited this time January 2019, and the trip was just as wonderful as the first. The cabin is clean, light and well equipped and very warm. The drying cupboard and sauna and excellent additions, as is the log fire in the lounge. The cabin is situated within easy walking distance of the village that hosts a supermarket, sports hire shops, a few restaurants and bars and activity trip centres. This time we did snow shoeing, a lot of cross country ski-ing, reindeer farm and on our final night the northern lights put in an appearance. My daughter loves this place so much she wants to move here and is begging for Finnish language lessons! Im pretty certain we will be back again!

Beautiful well equipped cabin in stunning location
I took my 3 children aged 19, 8 and 5 for a 3 night stay 20-23 December 2018. As soon as we arrived we were in love with the place! Fantastic quiet location in beautiful surroundings xx we were able to check in early too which meant we didnt have to hang around with our luggage! Cabin was well equipped with extras I hadn't even thought about and beds were comfy too....we all slept very well xx the littles ones loved the gallery landing and having their own little area to play. I thought this would be a once in a lifetime trip...but I already want to go back and stay in this cabin again!! Thankyou Linda, we had a fab stay xx

Absolutely incredible
We loved our stay in Mark and Linda’s cabin. It had everything we could have needed and the fireplace was a much appreciated luxury! The kids loved their loft room and the little toy area. The cabin was so warm and cosy when coming back from our activities and the heated cupboard was great for drying out our snow covered clothes. My husband used the sauna a few times and loved it! The DVD’s for the kids were a great touch too, our 4 year old now loves the Eddie The Eagle film! 😂 Our only wish is we had booked to stay a bit longer! Thank you so much for all of the help you gave us leading up to the holiday as well, all of the excursions that we booked through Snowfun Safaris (as recommended by Linda) were absolutely magical and once in a lifetime experiences. We had a day on the ski slopes and it was a very short walk from the cabin to catch the ski bus. The supermarket was a short walk away too and there were sleds scattered around the town that we could pull the kids along in. Although we were only here for 4 days, we managed to do so much in that time and it was quite possibly the best 4 days we’ve ever experienced. Thank you so much!

Lovely, traditional property, quiet and peaceful. Would recommend
We actually stayed here a couple of years ago but I realised I didn’t leave a review. Lovely property. We stayed here out of season in June, it was very quiet and peaceful but that’s what we like. Nice area, we found things to do, walking, hiring bikes. We saw lots of reindeer roaming around in the area. The owners have made it lovely for families with lots of nice little touches, games, dvd - my kids particularly loved the sit-on rocking reindeer. Great facilities in the house. Really friendly, helpful owner. The only thing I would suggest is maybe some blackout curtains for upstairs. We wanted to experience the midnight sun, which we did and it was unbelievable but so confusing when you wake up in the middle of the night not having a clue what time it is! (We also stayed at a property in Helsinki which didn’t have them either so maybe it is not a problem for locals!) All in all, a lovely place which I would recommend. Would be lovely to visit in the winter as well!

Fabulous stay in this lovely cosy cabin
We spent a week in Aurora cabin in February - our first visit to Akaslompolo. The cabin was very well equipped and situated in a lovely peaceful location just a few minutes walk from the centre of town. We loved being able to come back after a days skiing or dog-sledding and being able to jump in the sauna. In the evenings it was cosy to curl up on the settee in front of the fire - & having a store of unlimited seasoned logs was much appreciated. During the week we went snowmobiling, downhill skiing and dog-sledding. We’d highly recommend SnowFun Safaris - very friendly & helpful & nice to have the 10% discount. The Northern lights gave us a spectacular display on our last night too. Highly recommend both Akaslompolo & Aurora cabin and will most definitely be back! Thanks ❄️😊

Sehr schöne Umgebung mit allem, was man benötigt.

Lovely cabin, in a beautiful place
We stayed in the cabin over Xmas with our three young children aged 5,7 & 10 and were immediately blown away with how lovely the cabin was. There were DVDs for us to watch and a CD with Xmas songs on in the CD player, which were both used a lot during our stay! It is not easy to feel at ease in a different country with young energetic children, but we truly did feel like it was our little home for our stay and the children settled straight away. We had a lovely relaxing break, far away from the demands of everyday life, and a wonderful family Xmas. We visited to nearby ski resort where our 10 year old tried out snowboarding for the first time, and took a sleigh ride through the forest to visit Santa on Xmas Eve, it was truly magical. Unfortunately we didn't get to see the Northern lights, but that just means we will have to come back!! Thank you for a wonderful holiday and once in a lifetime experience.

Gorgeous little cabin in a great location
Had a lovely stay in this cabin, just my girlfriend and I. For the 2 of us it was plenty of room. The location is a few minutes walk from all the safari places, and 5-10 minute walk from the shopping centre and the odd pub or restaurant/cafe. This was my third trip to Finnish Lapland and we loved it again, I will keep coming back and I'd stay in this cabin again. It does not have wifi which would have been nice, but it was also nice to be offline and away from social media and emails! Only gripe was that we had to pay an extra £40 for us both to have towels and bed linen for the week, and the sheets and duvet covers weren't put on for us. This is the first time I've ever had to pay extra for this, I thought bed linen and towels were pretty fundamental for holiday accommodation. Not a huge problem, but an unexpected extra £40 wasn't welcomed. Overall, we loved this cabin, the sauna, kitchen facilities were perfect, view of a bird feeder where we saw woodpeckers, red squirrels and other birds. We used the games and DVD's/CD's in the cabin too. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

A magical Christmas spent in a cosy home from home
We spent our first ever Christmas away in Mark and Linda's wonderful log cabin in Akaslompolo and it exceeded all expectations. The log cabin is lovely and cosy despite it being -20C outside some evenings, the wood burning fire added to the cosiness where we would watch some family movies on the dvd player in the lounge. The sauna was also a nice treat when we weren't busy going out on the well planned excursions by Snowfun Safaris (highly recommended and 10% discount arranged by booking the cabin). Linda the owner was always on hand to answer queries and helped make the trip a success with her advice on what to take and what excursions to go on - we ended up booking the reindeer sleigh trip, snow mobiles to the husky farm and a last minute trip to see the Snow Village. All trips were fantastic and created memories we will never forget. We were also very lucky to witness the Aurora right above the log cabin one clear night. We booked to see Santa at the Poro restaurant and he was so lovely with our niece and had her in fits of giggles when they were sat on his double rocking chair, we also ate a meal here which was lovely (the salmon and arctic char kebabs were sublime). We also ate at Evaskori Pizzeria (huge pizzas) and Julli's Restaurant (lovely steaks). I would highly recommend staying here and it is purely magical at Christmas time. One thing I would recommend is to ensure you make note of the supermarket/off licence and restaurant opening hours at this time of year as not everything is open or hours are sporadic. We managed to cook a full Christmas dinner in the kitchen on Christmas Day will careful planning of the pots and pans available to use. We can't wait to come back and stay again and would also like to see what it is like in the summertime too. Kiitos from the Wright family

Magical Lapland Cabin (that's affordable!)
We booked this delightful cabin at the last minute for a late break away and it could not have been a better choice. The communication with the owners was so helpful - very quick and detailed and collection of the key was very simple. The cabin is very well equipped - even down to hand warmers! We really wanted for nothing during the week we stayed there. It is very cosy and a perfect base to explore Finnish Lapland. The ski resorts of atlas and Levi were so quiet - we never had to queue for a lift - and having such a cosy cabin to return to each night, it was hard to tear ourselves away from it to make use of the log daylight to explore the area in the evenings. We plan to return in the summertime soon and this cabin will be our first choice!

Absolutely Brilliant!
We stayed for 5 nights in the Aurora cabin and had a fantastic time, it was a brilliant experience and definitely one we will never forget. The cabin itself was perfect and in a great location to explore the magical village of akoslompolo. The cabin lived up to its name on the second night when we saw the northern lights standing on the front porch area which was amazing. We also took advantage of the 10% discount that the cabin owners had negotiated with snowfun safaris which was really helpful when we rented 2 snowmobiles to travel to the ice hotel. I've been to lapland before and can honestly say the aurora cabin was by far our favourite cabin we've stayed in. I Would definitely recommend this cabin to friends and family. We look forward to returning to this magical place soon. Thanks

Really fantastic!
We stayed for Christmas 2014 at the Aurora Cabin and we would return again!!! Lapland is really amazing and beautiful. The temperature was very cold (-30ºC!!!), but we were dressed appropriately so that wasn't a problem. This cabin is the perfect choice for enjoying Lapland. It is beautiful and cosy, and it has everything you need to stay comfortable. It makes you feel at home. The cabin is extremely clean and it has lots of amenities, like a flat TV, dishwasher and washer and dryer. The only down side was I miss an internet connection (wi-fi). The cabin is well-located close to a supermarket and some restaurants. The Poro restaurant is focus on Scandinavian food. It is expensive (reindeer and bear), but it is worth going. The owners are diligent and always available for any questions you may have. The property manager is friendly and charming. She is a great help. Undoubtedly, the next time we travel to Lapland, we will stay at Aurora Cabin.

Fantastic log cabin
I stayed here with my wife and two year old daughter and we had a fantastic time. The temperature was sub-zero, even in October, but we were dressed appropriately so that wasn't a problem. The cabin was great: very homely, warm and well equipped. The sauna was a lovely way to unwind in the evenings. It was a quiet time of year to go to Lapland but we quite liked being there without all the crowds that I expect arrive around Christmas time. We had the small cabin complex pretty much to ourselves and it was a 5-10 minute walk up to the main street. Not many restaurants were open but the ones that were offered well-priced (for Finland), hearty food. We saw the Northern Lights three times right outside the cabin but I think we got lucky as locals told us the Lights had been particularly strong that week. We hired a car, which is a must at this time of year as the tour companies are not running. We drove down to Rovaniemi to go to the Santa Claus village and also visited the husky camp at Akaskero (phone ahead to make an appointment). Many other tourist attractions were not open at this time of year. I would recommend a visit to Lapland in October if you enjoy nature, walking and unwinding in the quiet environment.

Fantastic!!!!!
We stayed for Christmas 2013 at the Aurora Cabin and can honestly say we would return again tomorrow !!! The cabin was perfect in every way, great location, cosy and safe for our three children (aged 10 , 8 & 4) Linda was absolutely wonderful with her endless help and assistance, even down to suggesting restaurants for our Wedding Anniversary (21st Dec) and for our Christmas Eve Meal. For people spending Christmas at the cabin, we would recommend the Poro restaurant for the Christmas Eve Buffet. The food was lovely, great value and a wonderful festive atmosphere. We enjoyed a lovely relaxed meal for under 100 euros for 5, a magical walk to the church by candle lit streets to enjoy the carol service, followed by watching Polar Express in front of the fire !! What better way to spend Christmas Eve!!! Would recommend taking advantage of the discount offered at the Safari Company, we had great fun on the 'Snow What' snowmobile outing on Christmas Day. We were not blessed with the appearance of the Northern Lights, so what better reason could we have to return to such a lovely place. We have been on three travel agent package tours to Lapland over the last eight years and after this trip arranging our own cabin and flights (with the much appreciated assistance of Linda!) we would without a doubt recommend to others. The freedom of not having a set schedule or the hectic noisy atmosphere of hotels was lovely. We enjoyed everything at our own pace and had every home from home comfort we could have wanted. The only down side of our holiday was having to pack up to leave :( 10/10 for Linda and family and their beautiful cabin. We will be returning.

I Love Lapland!!
We spent 6 nights in Lapland from the 13th December 2013 and had the most amazing week. We loved the Aurora cabin, it was so cosy and warm and we felt very at home there, we loved coming back after a day in the freezing temperatures and lighting the wood burning stove, it was lovely. The cabin had everything you could ever have wanted and made for a very comfortable stay. The DVD player was great for the little one when he just wanted to chill and there was lots of space so we weren't always on top of each other. My little boy loved the mezzanine level and was a very comfortable place to sleep. We hired a car whilst we were there as we felt a bit restricted relying on the buses and when we are on holiday we like to be spontaneous and go out as and when we like, we felt this was difficult without our own transport. We hired the car through Scandi Rental who were great, we had a car with sat nav and it was very reasonably priced, easy to pick up and drop off back at the airport on our last day and no problem with the temperatures thanks to the heated sparking space outside the cabin or driving around safely as the car had snow tyres. We travelled around the area and also went further afield, so got to see places that we wouldn't have done otherwise. We booked all of our trips at Snow Fun Safaris, and they were great, really friendly, really helpful and went above and beyond to ensure we had great experiences - we loved the Reindeer and the Husky safaris and the ski mobiles were great fun. We also arranged to see the "real" Father Christmas located at the Poro Restaurant, which our ittle boy loved and we ate some nice meals there as well, the food was great. Linda was great at responding to my numerous questions before we went and it was really helpful knowing she was on the other end of the e-mail or phone if we needed her. Finnair cancelled our return flight, so we stayed an extra night at the Askhotelli hotel just oustide the village, it was a nice hotel with lots of good facilities and again a warm and cosy self catering apartment, great for a quick overnight stay. We loved our time in Lapland and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Aurora cabin in the charming village of Akaslompolo. It certainly lived up to my dream of what Lapland would be like and maybe one day we will go back!

Home from home
Aurora cottage is like a home from home for us being fully fitted out with all those thoughtful little items making it a very comfortable place to stay. It is conveniently located in the village with a short walk to the supermarket and other shops. In the winter you can cross country ski from the doorstep onto the many prepared ski tracks. The cottage has access to a ski waxing room and fire wood for the log burning stove. We have been visiting this part of Finland, winter and summer, for many years. In winter Akaslompolo is considered one of the best areas in Europe for cross country skiing and the downhill is good for beginners and intermediate skiers. The summer gives you plenty of beautiful walking trails with stunning views of the Arctic landscape.

Excellent - Cant Wait to Go Back
After staying in Akaslompolo in December we decided to go back and experience the Arctic Summer. We were not dissapointed. Aurora is a lovely cabin, well situated for the village. It is a real home from home, with everything you need to enjoy your stay. Really looking forward to a return visit in the Winter and next summer

We love Scandinavia in general but Finland is a great country. The people and culture are so warm and welcoming. After many years of holidaying in the area we decided to buy in Finnish Lapland. The scenery is stunning and Akaslompolo is a picturesque, traditional, Lappish village. The air and lakes are clean and there is so much to do, Winter and Summer.

What makes this property unique

Our Kelo Log cabin is in an exclusive development situated close to the centre of the village but in a forest setting. We have tried to make our house a home with little extras like children's toys and DVDs which can make all the difference.
