About this property

Stunning Villa With Pool close to Montone, amazing views, tranquillity assured

A stunning country home, ensconced in over twenty acres of private grounds, Casa di Luce nestles into a hill in verdant Umbrian countryside, a few minutes from the beautiful ancient hill top town of Montone. Surrounded by lawns, olives, woods and a mountainous horizon, anyone staying at Casa di Luce will appreciate the superb views and the special sense of peace and calm. The villa has been lovingly restored and decorated in a modern chic style that blends seamlessly with the traditional stone walls and ancient wood beamed ceilings. Special attention has been paid to indoor lighting to create an intimate, but open and airy space. Swimming in the infinity edge pool, with a glass of wonderful Italian wine at hand, or just relaxing after a hard day of visiting idyllic local medieval villages and towns, the house is ideal for friends and for families in search of a place of style, beauty and tranquility.
It is a perfect place to stay for friends or families as the reception rooms are large and allow plenty of private space. The outdoor deck, by the kitchen garden, is a dream for watching glorious sunsets with a cocktail or the shooting stars at night. The covered loggia is perfect for barbecues and outside dining.
The ground floor has cool tiled flooring and is seamlessly open plan in the living areas. The entrance hall leads to a small office with a library for guests to pick and choose from, TV/video games room, comfortable drawing room leading to the pool with a traditional fireplace for cooler evenings and a huge well stocked kitchen/dining room with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the valley below. A well- equipped utility room leads off from the kitchen. On the other side of the entrance hall is a double bedroom suite, with a dressing room with a beautiful claw-foot bath and chandelier and a separate shower room and doors leading to the garden and its own patio.
The wrought iron staircase leads to the upstairs bedrooms and master suite. On this floor there is a double bedroom and a twin bedroom, each with their own bathroom opposite, and the master suite with its own dressing room, superb bathroom, fireplace and a wrought iron staircase leading up to the tower room with views across the valley and sleeping for an additional 2 people. The master suite has its own intimate private patio and outdoor staircase leading back to the front gardens. All bedrooms (and the tower room) have remote controlled ceiling fans for warmer evenings.
The surrounding gardens and Olive grove are awash with gorgeous plants and flowers. The pool area is stunning, loungers, hammocks and so much more! The pool annex hosts a table tennis table and secluded area for a spot of yoga or croquet; the kitchen garden is planted from May - September.

I already want to go back!!!
My family stayed in this house for a week in July, 2019 and we all fell in love with it. The house is so beautiful, clean, spacious, & comfortable. The yard is huge and the pool is heavenly (seriously- the views from the infinity pool are amazing!!). Even the bathrooms in this house are wonderful. The landscaping/design/artwork both inside and outside is gorgeous. The owners clearly put their hearts into this property. I cannot recommend this house enough The town, Montone, is wonderful as well. Great people, great restaurants, and so very charming. I already want to go back!!!

The perfect holiday house for a stay in Umbria.
This is a really exceptional house for a holiday in Umbria. Beautifully situated on a hill, with an uninterrupted view of the valley and the hills beyond. No near neighbours. The pool is wonderful. At least 15 metres, so long enough for lap swimmers, and easily wide enough for family fun. Table tennis right next to the pool. Incredible view over the valley. Lots of outside sitting areas, huge and well equipped kitchen. Cool inside living areas for when the sun gets too hot. What more could you want?

Our blissful week at Casa di Luce :)
We are a family of 5 from London with 3 adult children, and stayed at Casa di Luce the first week of September 2017. We wanted somewhere in Italy with a lot of space, and Casa di Luce was recommended by a friend who had stayed the previous year. We originally booked for late-June but had to change, and Samantha very kindly accommodated the change without penalizing us in spite of the September week being more expensive. I have to say we had the most blissful week in this wonderful, luxurious house. The house is beautiful, it functions so well for summer living, and the setting is unbeatable. The space and the layout was a luxury, and the house itself is beautiful with all modern facilities but finished in stone with lovely traditional flooring. We often find kitchens are not as well-equipped as we’d hope but that was not the case here with everything fully provided. The pool was perfect, if a little cold at this time of year, and the outside space and furniture all lent itself perfectly to relaxed days with no hassle. There are so many places to go in Umbria, beautiful hilltop villages and medieval cities. We didn’t have to travel far to experience some really good quality restaurants in Montone the local village and Gubbio. Samantha was terrific throughout and Paul the house manager was very helpful and professional even though he was on holiday himself that week he was able to help with urgent medical enquiries (!) Of all the places we have stayed in recent years this has been the best experience. The weather was kind so we have come away with great memories of Casa di Luce, the local village Montone and the incredible Perugia.

Wonderful stay in Umbria Summer 2016
We are a family of six all adults. We had a wonderful stay in this house in Umbria in Summer 2016. It was perfect with fantastic views and sun sets from the pool. There was plenty to occupy us all as the house was well equipped or to do very little and just enjoy the sunshine as it was in a very quiet location. The interiors were a mix of modern and quirky. We would love to come and stay again soon.

A wonderful and secluded villa with amazing views
My family and I stayed at this wonderful villa at the beginning of August and all are expectations were thoroughly met. The property is situated in a quiet and secluded area nestled in the Umbrian country side with far reaching views over the glorious hills. Nearby hilltop towns of Montone with fantastic restaurants are minutes away by car. All mod cons were included in the villa and the owner of the property really has gone all out to ensure that a most comforable and enjoyable stay is experienced by all who stay. Our family had the most fantastic time here and we would certainly recommend this to others! Thank you once again.

Wonderful Holiday, Fabulous House
We chose this house as a place for a post wedding relaxation holiday and our party consisted of family from Australia, Canada, USA and UK. We all loved this house and can not wait to return. The house exceeded our expectations. It has been sensitively and beautifully restored. It's situation on the hillside affords fantastic views of the surrounding rolling countryside and the sunsets from the outside dining loggia are spell binding. The house is well stocked with everything you could want from the bathrooms to the kitchen and there is a beautifully written, highly informative guide to your every need in the area. The local hilltop village a short car ride up from the house is a delight and has a range of delightful places to eat and some small independent food shops. There are plenty of other towns well worth visiting in the area and we were split between the tourists and the pool side team. This was a dream holiday for a group that were in need of relaxation and we all felt so happy and restored by our time at Casa di Luce. It is a very special place.

Idyllic Umbrian property in dreamy landscape
The property is beautifully renovated and combines chic modern furnishings and art in an ancient setting. It is incredibly peaceful with wonderful views and garden and a very large pool. We had 2 families of friends with lots of kids and it worked brilliantly well for adults and children. The village of Montone is minutes away and really is magical and there is lots further afield for those who want to site see

Stunning villa in beautiful surroundings
Two families shared this wonderful villa tucked away in the beautiful area of Montone. The villa offers luxurious accommodation with large, airy rooms that remain cool in the heat of the day and present unrivalled views of the breathtaking surrounding countryside. The lavender bushes that lead up to the house give a fabulous fragrance whilst swimming in the infinity pool. With just a short drive to the charming village of Montone, you can enjoy the local restaurants and unspoilt Italian village atmosphere. We bought fresh bread and croissant each morning and supplies from the local market for al fresco dining throughout our stay, though there are also numerous excellent restaurants and cafes nearby if you prefer to dine out. The perfect retreat and a truly exceptional place to re-charge.

Umbrian Hideaway
My wife and I (and our dog) are on a 1 year visit to Italy and have been to 17 out of the 20 regions. We have stayed at many fine historic villas and castles and liked many of them. We only had a week at this one and would have loved to stay for a month. It is very private and the restoration work is outstanding. The interior high end furnishings are superb and very similar to our tastes. The local property manage was excellent and made sure our stay was enjoyable. The welcome complete with wine and food was very much appreciated after a long drive from Verona. It's clear the owners love this property very much. We liked it so much, we only left it once during week for lunch. I would recommend this romantic getaway to anyone looking for privacy in a stunning location

Beautiful villa with magnificent views
Casa di Luce is a stunning villa. The owners have put an enormous amount of work into restoring it which is reflected throughout. The layout, furnishings and artwork are truly lovely and the location is excellent and very peaceful. The sunsets are wonderful and perfect to sit out and enjoy whilst sipping Aperol! We enjoyed many hours by the infinity pool and the odd competitive game of table tennis! The home and garden are well maintained under the direction of Christine. We walked in to Montone for coffee in the piazza which took around 40 minutes. The town itself is well worth exploring and we had dinner at the Osteria enjoying their delicious beef on salt blocks. Towns we visited were Perugia, Umbertide, Anghiari (great market on Wednesdays), Citta di Castello and Cortona. The villa is central to many more towns such as Gubbio, Assisi, Spello to name a few. We are all foodies and most evenings we ate in. We enjoyed purchasing fresh fruit and vegetables at the markets. The Conad Supermarket in Trestina (15 minute drive) has an excellent butcher as well as great bread and a very good selection of sliced meat and cheese. The kitchen is well-equipped and the charcoal BBQ was put to good use. We had a very special family holiday with our adult children and couldn't have had it in a more perfect home. A special thank you to the owners, and to Christine, who were all very helpful and accommodating to ensure that our time at the villa was enjoyed to the maximum.

Stunning villa in beautiful location
Casa di Luce is a super stylish villa which our 2 families would not hesitate to recommend. We were warmly welcomed by Christine who manages the property. She was full of excellent advice and interesting ideas for activities during our week long stay and any problems we had were ironed out quickly and efficiently by her and her team. The luxurious interior of the villa shows great attention to detail and it is obvious that the family love spending time there. The master suite upstairs is stunning and a real treat to wake up in the morning to see the sunlight streaming through the many windows with views of the beautiful surrounding countryside. The pool was a hit with us all but particularly the teenagers who spent a great deal of time there and the pool area has sufficient space to sit and relax on the sunloungers. The village of Montone is lovely and full of character and although small, has a busy little main square with some lovely restaurants within and just off the square. The village is a good walk from the villa up a steep and windy road, so I would say a car is essential especially if you want to go out in the evening. However, we stayed in some evenings as the villa is so comfortable and well equipped and we were happy to cook for ourselves. My only recommendation would be to have more comfortable outdoor furniture as there is a lovely covered loggia with a large wooden table and benches on one side of the dining room and another space on the other side which is decked but needs more comfortable seating for 8 to see the glorious sunsets over the valley. The area surrounding Montone is very old and many of the surrounding towns and villages are full of character. Whilst travelling in the area we enjoyed a day visit to Perugia, a day at the Castiglione del Lago and we went to Gubbio for a late afternoon early evening meal which was lovely. Umbertide is the best town for food shopping with a few larger supermarkets. All in all a super relaxing holiday in glorious surroundings. Not to be missed!

About the host

Host profile image
Building the house in Italy has been a long term dream, mainly as a way of friends and family getting together (they are spread around the world). We wanted to create something special enough so that they felt that their holiday was not just about meeting old friend but a really memorable holiday at the same time.

My wife (lawyer) and I (CEO in IT) have a 4 year old and we spend as much time in Italy as we can. The idea of the rental for us is to cover the cost of maintaining the house and to have continual life in the place (empty houses seem to me to slowly die).

We have tried to make this house without compromise as it is where we want to spend our time.

Why they chose this property

The views are stunning. The house is private (only house on its own private road) but near enough to a truly beautiful medieval village (Montone is 1.5 miles) to be able to pop in for an aperitif or for lunch in one of 3 really good restaurants.

We get over 250 days a year of sunshine but still get a pleasant breeze in summer so it never gets unbearable.

The house is located near to really interesting places that we love to visit (Assisi, Gubbio, Perugia, Siena, Florence, Cortona etc etc) and we have been so welcomed by the locals that it feels a very special place.

Italy is stunning (ridiculously so), friendly with wonderful food and stunning wine.

All pretty perfect really.

What makes this property unique

Firstly as you drive up to the house time changes. Watches seem to stop and relaxation happens instantly.

The house is built to be beautiful but functional. We found most Italian properties to be cluttered and dark. We have built something open and light but still with the classic Italian structure.

The pool is beautiful. The horizon edge means whilst in it all you can see is the mountains and valley in the distance.

Although there are all the facilities you could wish for in the area you don't need to move (at all).
