About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods In Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance of everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Really beautiful cabin!
Beautiful cabin that can accommodate 4 adults and 6 children! Beautiful neighborhood and magical Yosemite! The house managers are really nice and helpful. You should definitely ask them about trails recommendation in the neighborhood! The interior is a bit outdated and would need a refresher in my opinion. Also there is no dishwasher which I had not expected for a house of this size. Finally the internet connection is really bad. But overall we are happy of our stay.

Wawona Cabin
Great place to explore Yosemite from, location inside the park was excellent. Cabin had everything you would need. On the first day of check-in we had no hot water or propane in the grill, but after a call to maintenance it was resolved very quickly.

Waterfall Visit
Walking to waterfall right by property was great. Property was older but very roomy for whole family. Would have been nice if outside furniture had been cleaned up more.

Rustic treehouse
Feels much like a rustic treehouse. It really does feel as if you are in the redwoods. Perfect launchpad for our Yosemite adventures plus wawona itself has much to offer. Highly recommended. One bedroom down stairs is a little odd with an outdoor entrance and there is no washer/dryer at house(coin laundry at rental office) otherwise perfect.

Nice Place but Needs Improvements
It was beautiful area and good size house but needs repairs and updates. Bed sheets and bathtubs were clean, but windows and furniture (inside and outside) were dusty, worn out and with a lot of spider web. Kitchen had coffee maker but no filters, trash cans had no extra bags, no salt and pepper, so we had to buy all of that. I think property has to be kept in good shape if you want to rent it to people for such high price. Overall is good area and good place, which needs more love from it's owners.

Nice Spot for Large Group
Nice spot for a large group (8 adults and 2 kids 3 and under). The kids loved the wraparound porch and I liked that it had a nice metal grid material on the rail so no danger of little ones slipping through. Furniture was nice and very comfortable. Nice stove + appliances and big fridge. Beds were not too bad. I am not one to wash walls or notice this but some of us with allergies has trouble and I noticed that there was quite a bit of maybe pet hair and dust on the walls in the living room. There was a bit of mold in the caulk around the tub upstairs but that was no problem, still felt comfortable bathing kids in the tub. Generally I think a shampoo of the carpets would be advisable. Those who stayed on the bottom floor reported a slight pet smell. Lovely drive from lodging past Tunnel View every day getting into the park. Long drive and windy by the that's the name of the game in the area. 30 min drive to Oakhurst to nice grocery stores. I understand why (bears?) but be advised there is absolutely nothing in the cabinets for cooking--no oil, salt and pepper, etc. so just make sure to grab those when you get your groceries. I liked that the Redwoods takes unused food items for donation. The management company (the Redwoods) was easy to communicate with. Overall would recommend.

Nice, clean and rustic
It was easy to check in, clean, rustic furnishings, kitchen had all utensils needed and plates, cups and mugs. Dish soap and new sponge. One bar of soap per bathroom and garbage bags were provided. Wifi not the best, would cut in and out, but it’s a function of the area, not this VRBO. It’s as described.

Great local & peaceful setting
The location is great, the neighborhood peaceful and quiet. The home suited our needs overall and was clean, but I rated it as a 1 star because we did see a mouse inside the house, and ants got into food left on the countertops. The management was easy to call and was super prompt at addressing any issues.

Wonderful family vacation spot
This is our first time at Yosemite, and this house was perfect for our family of five adults and two babies. It’s a short walk to a bridge over a roaring river, and a short drive to a great “everything you need” camp store, gas station, and a beautiful lodge with great food. The house is cozy and warm, the family all congregated on the huge couch to play games and compare photos from our adventures. We would definitely stay here again!

Clean property close to waterfall trail
We were 3 families renting this place. The upstairs is warm and clean and has two bedrooms and one full bath. The downstairs bedrooms were also clean and shared one full bath but were really cold - turning the heat on full blast only make the upstairs unbearable (hot air rises..) but not much change to the bedrooms below. We were there in mid February, so technically still winter and we had had recent snowfall in thsnow area. Other than this no complaints. The house is close to waterfall trail and it was a lovely short walk in the morning before coffee. Overall I would recommend the home for most seasons except winter where the downstairs would be super cold.
