About this property

La Bomba Is A Stunning Farmhouse in Glorious Countryside With Private Pool.

La Bomba is an exquisite farmhouse that has been lovingly restored and furnished to a very high standard. The house is enormous! Situated at the foot of the picturesque village of Saint Paulet in the region of Aude, La Bomba offers very spacious accommodation for 12/13 people, a private pool that can be heated, and wonderful views towards the Pyrenees. It boasts maxi-sized bedrooms, 4 generous bathrooms, a fab modern kitchen, a second kitchen (with second fridge and second dishwasher!), an enormous beamed double height Grand Salon sitting room with a traditional Lauragais fireplace, dining room, a cosy 'den' with satellite TV and DVD, and a library. The property has a delightful garden, nestling beneath the Chateau of St. Paulet, bordered by Italian Cypress and bounteous cherry and fig trees. There are also 2 outside dining terraces covered by ironwork pergola and climbing roses with seating for 12/14. Located an easy 50 min drive from both Carcassonne and Toulouse airports. BBQ, table tennis, and badminton.

Family at La Bomba
We were a party of nine adults and there was more than enough room for everyone. It’s a fantastic and quirky old house that has not been over restored, it’s a little remote, there is nothing in Saint Paulet, so a drive to get delicious bread and pasties every morning. Fantastic pool. We really enjoyed our stay, Sam was very helpful even though he was not anywhere near.

Wonderful week at La Bomba
A group of 8 friends had an amazing week here. Bedrooms are enormous with very comfy beds. Plenty of different seating areas to accommodate large groups inside and outside. We were lucky with the weather most days so our evenings were spent outside under the amazing stars. We have stayed in many holiday rental properties before but none of them were as well equipped for self catering as La Bomba. Every utensil that you could possibly need was there. To add to all this the swimming pool far exceeded our expectations and much fun was had in it. We enjoyed our trip to Castelnaudary on market day which was well worth a visit. Carcassonne and Revel were also lovely. The owner Sam couldn't have been more helpful.

Idyllic
La Bomba is most inviting as you approach the property and once inside the grounds it continues to delight. Various outdoor seating areas suit different times of the day, there's lawn to play on and the pool is super. La Bomba's interior is spacious and well equipped and the grand salon, with its table tennis and football tables, was a big hit. Saint Paulet is a great location and, despite sitting in very quiet countryside, it has easy access to major routes into Toulouse, Castelnaudary, Carcassonne and further afield. Cite l'espace and Carcassonne are both well worth a visit and the Grotte de Limousis was engaging. All three of these kept our 9 year old interested. Closer to La Bomba it was nice to walk along the Rigole straight from the house and there are some super restaurants nearby - most notably l'Auberge du Poids Public in St. Felix. The boulangerie in Souilhe delivers bread twice a week to the door which added a delightful authenticity to the holiday. Sam, the owner, was very helpful both before and during our stay, answering all queries promptly. La Bomba was an excellent choice providing super holiday memories.

Great family holiday
We chose this for our 30th wedding anniversary celebration, we had a party of 11 people ranging from 1 to 60, on arrival we were amazed at the stunning approach to the property which can be seen from the village on the hill, the house is amazing, the younger members loved the snug, the grand salon was impressive and we enjoyed many an evening with everyone playing cards, games etc.The children especially enjoyed the table tennis. The pool is awesome and even in late May to early June was very warm. We barbecued most evenings and the outdoor dining area accommodated all of us easily. The bedrooms were huge and each one unique. We would have no hesitation in recommending this as an ideal family holiday.

Stunning French farmhouse with gorgeous pool.
Fabulous farm house that is beautifully decorated and with stunning gardens. We loved the roses, the pool, the sun loungers, the shutters - in fact everything. When we stayed the surrounding fields were full of sunflowers. Inside it is beautifully designed, with views from every window. We particularly liked the table tennis table. Great idea. Nearby there was lots to do - there were some very good markets nearby. The house was so lovely we didn't make it to nearby Carcassone. Next time we will! Lovely local walks too! I would love to come back with my mum and step-dad (there are downstairs bedrooms and they are all quite spread out, so it feels very private). The owner, Sam, was very charming and full of good local knowledge. 10/10. Perfection!

Pretty close to perfect.
La Bomba is the kind of place you're reluctant to review honestly in case it leads to the place being booked up next time you want to visit. Perfectly positioned on the edge of a sleepy Lauragais village, if the temptations of nearby markets and vineyards weren't so great it would been easy to stray no further than a few yards from the swimming pool for the duration of our stay. The fields of sunflowers flanking the farmhouse leave you wondering whether you've woken up in the middle of a picture postcard.

Attractive and very well restored farmhouse
We were delighted to find the property, delivered on everything promised. The restoration has been done well, with quality workmanship and many stylish features. The Salon is an amazing room with ample space for even the largest party. Bedrooms locations are a little quirky, due to the size/shape of the property, but this adds to its charm and affords privacy, when needed. Two bedrooms are accessed via a spiral staircase. Outside the garden is large and well designed, the highlight being the fabulous pool. Plenty of space and options for alfresco dining, weather permitting and even inside the dining arrangements were ideal for our party. La Bomba's rural location makes it a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city living. We enjoyed mixed weather during our stay, but did choose not to travel in peak season. The house was spotlessly clean on arrival and the owner even emailed to check that all was well. There are plenty of places to visit locally and we especially enjoyed the river walk. A second week would have been even better!

Absolutely Delightful
What can I say? We had a brilliant time at La Bomba. It was the best experience we’ve had in 10 years of booking villas across Europe. From first enquiry to our last day, Sam was on hand to help out and advise on everything. It’s a big house suitable for two or three families. We were 2 families with 8 children and they weren’t bored for a minute. The swimming pool is bigger than normal for villas like this, there is a table tennis table, a boules set and even a basketball hoop. The kitchen is excellent for preparing big meals in. There’s a side kitchen off the main kitchen with an extra dishwasher (complete lifesaver) and second fridge. Bedrooms were clean and tidy and a good size too. Possibly our favourite thing was the walking near the house. We found a path that runs along a stream all the way to a lake and a great restaurant where we ate 4 times! I would definitely recommend this property if you’re looking a for a villa suitable for big families.

La Bomba review.
La Bomba is a beautiful property set in a very peaceful part of the French countryside. Our party was 7 adults and a Scottie dog ! and we all had a great time. Plenty of long walks to enjoy and the property has plenty of space to relax around the pool and outside areas. Sam, the owner was really helpfull with lots of tips on places to visit and would defiantly recommend to friends.

Wonderful, relaxing stay in beautiful La Bomba
We spent three terrific weeks at La Bomba this summer. There was plenty of room for us and our friends, with the extensive inside space a particular advantage in allowing everyone to have some peace. The pool and pool area was terrific, bigger than the average pool, and the gardens large enough for games. The patio area was lovely and had sunshine for almost the whole day. There is lots to do nearby and some beautiful towns especially St-Felix-Lauragais and Revel. We rented bikes which we loved cycling up and down the path by the stream next to the house to the nearby lake for ice cream. We have rented many places in France over the years and this was among the very best. Sam was also super helpful and easy to contact with anything we needed. We were very sad to leave....

Stunning property in glorious surroundings!
What can I say?! We had high expectations from the images on the website yet the property managed to surpass all of our wishes and desires! It easily catered for all three generations of our family from aged 25 - 80 and is clearly well cared for and maintained by the owners. With good access to surrounding villages and towns, and with superb customer service from initial queries onwards we cannot recommend La Bomba highly enough.

A lovely house in a lovely part of France
We were an extended family with 3 little ones and the two wings of this spacious house worked very well for us. The pool which is lovely, great size, is very close to the house but at a different level so little ones could play safely outside on the terrace without the attraction of the water under their noses. We loved the rigole walk - shady for most of the day and ideal for getting little ones to sleep apart from the chance to see fish, butterflies, otters and hoopoe birds. Lots to see in the area from St Felix Lauragais to Castres, Revel and Albi only an hour and a quarter's drive away.

An outstanding holiday for two families
Sam and Emma's home was a terrific site for our family of five children and au pair, and friends with their two children, to meet up for a week's holiday together. With an au pair and children ranging in ages from 15 months to 15 years, everyone had a comfortable bedroom and a great time. The layout of the farmhouse made for a sense of privacy and escape to the two wings, and we would have felt the house was sufficient itself. So the renovated large room with ping pong table, large sofas and dining for all was a complete bonus. The two things we appreciated most about the house were the two features we were looking for in a holiday villa: we wanted everyone to be able to enjoy meals together, and we wanted a pool. La Bomba has lovely outdoor and indoor dining for all, and we enjoyed the pool most every day. Away from the house, we took in a mixture of historic sites like Carcassonne and outdoor adventures like hiking in the foothills of the Pyrenees. We cannot really comment on area restaurants because with the size of our party, we tended to eat at home. Local wine and bread were delightful. Sam and Emma knew we had a little one along, and so the cots and high chairs gave us options for both eating and sleeping (i.e., we were not locked into just one choice of room for the baby). We had a problem on arrival with a few technological questions, to which Sam provided prompt replies by email in each case. We found the home clean and appreciated the welcome basket of wine and nibbles. If we were not flying, we would have been glad to have brought our dog along, but did not on this occasion. However, we did not see any dog hair about the place. We would stay again in future gladly. Clifford -- Cumbria, UK

Even better than it looks
The villa and the garden is beautiful. We ate breakfast outside each morning with lovely jasmine and roses climbing up the pergola. The pool is a huge bonus and we managed to keep two teenagers and two young children entertained for the whole week. La Bomba is very well appointed so that all the necessary utensils are available in the kitchen. The house works well as the flagstone floor means that you don't mind if kids walk in from outside. There are all the usual things you would need for storage, kid's toys, washing machine, iron, tin-opener. After a very stressful year and a tiring journey from the North East of Scotland we needed a great place. We found it. This is the perfect house to relax in. We also appreciated that the owners had good notes on how to use the heating, the pool etc and that we were able to contact them anytime. We did contact them to say a "Huge Thank You". I did not want to leave!

What it says on the tin - and some!
La Bomba is presented as a spacious and elegant gem, set in a largely undiscovered yet beautiful and historically rich corner of France. With a pool which is large enough for serious swimming it is indeed all of these things. But what made it extra special was the serene atmosphere, which can only be on account of the care with which it was restored and with which it is maintained. It works well either as a spacious retreat for a large family or a rendezvous for several smaller groups. The place oozes with character and we enjoyed exploring all its parts, dining inside and out and having a go at everything from basketball to table tennis (when we weren't in the pool!). By the end of the week, we all agreed that we'd like to stay forever...

Beautiful house, ideal for groups
Just back from a lovely two weeks at La Bomba and would thoroughly recommend it. The house is wonderfully spacious and tastefully done out. All the mod cons are there, but without the character of the place being taken away. Very well set up for larger groups (we were 14) with two dishwashers and two fridges, lots of crockery and cutlery and a wealth of high chairs and cots. Add to that a lovely big pool, beautiful outside dinning terrace and plenty of games for the kids to play and you have the ideal spot for a family holiday. The owner was a pleasure to deal with and always very happy to help when we had any questions. We loved our time there and would have no hesitation in recommending to others.

Three families - no problem!
La Bomba is a spacious farmhouse that's as comfortable as it is beautiful. We were three families together - with ten children in all, and we all fitted just fine. There was space for us all to be together and to be apart - even on the one day that it rained and we were all inside. And with three bathrooms and a shower room, we all had our own washing facilities too. The huge room at the end of the house was fantastic for big meals together - as well as some fairly epic table tennis matches - while the kitchen served as a lovely cosy heart of the house, the place where we planned each day's adventure over coffee and croissants. It was sadly too early in the year for us to use the pool, but we had enough sun to sit out and sunbathe a few times in the beautiful garden. There's such a lot to do around the area that we didn't spend much of our time hanging around the house. The local village is charming, while nearby Revel is a lovely place to do some shopping and have a spot of lunch. We had no trouble at all with anything in the house while we were there - it's got all the mod cons and every comfort you could ask for. We will definitely go back to La Bomba and can't recommend it enough!

Perfect Langdouc villa - idyllic
As a group of friends and with 2 of us with babies it an ideal villa. We searched for ages trying to find the combination of enough space, top quality accommodation with a pool in a beautiful location. Total escapism here. Sam has done a superb job of converting this house. It's a rustic cottage very nicely done with all mod cons. The grand salon proved to be excellent entertaining space in the evening. Great walks along the canal - beautiful. The outside dining table we moved up to outside the kitchen and spent most evening dining and drinking till very late. Such total escapism. Guaranteed, you will love this place. A few nights it became too cool to stay outside all evening so we have nights then in the grand salon so this place also is ideal for late season holidaymakers or this wishing to come here outside Summer time. We ventured in to Castlenaudary one evening for cassoulet in a great restaurant. Lovely place. Sam the owner was very helpful, gave good advice on things to do. Villa was very clean and bedding, mattresses etc all very comfortable. The gardens here are absolutely beautiful too, very well maintained and in blossom. Guaranteed you will love this place.

Beautiful house in lovely countryside
We (3 families - 6 adults, 9 children) stayed at La Bomba for 10 days over Easter and had the most fantastic time. The house is beautiful, a quintessential French farmhouse with a spacious and stylish, yet homely interior. We loved the space of the Grand Salon and our enormous bedrooms. The children were very happy finding secret corners of the house to play in! When the weather was good, it was glorious to sit outside on the patio or by the pool. The house is set in divine countryside. We walked both directions along the pretty canal at the bottom of the garden - one direction took us to a lake where we found ice creams / beer and the other direction was good for otter spotting (one seen). We visited the poignant Cathar memorial near St Felix Lauragais, then walked around the pretty town which is set on top of a hill which yielded amazing views across to the snow capped Pyrenees. One beautiful day was spent exploring the fairy tale fortified town Cacassonnes - much enjoyed by the children. All in all a wonderful and relaxing break! Would heartily recommend! Thank you Sam & Emma.

fantastic property
We were delighted with this property, we shared it with our friends so there were 3 families here in total. Fabulous pool and large garden - great for the children - but big enough to escape into a quite corner to read as well! Local walks and restaurants really good. The property was very well presented and clean with loads of extras - if we were to come back to this region we would definately stay here again, would have no hesitation in recommending this holiday rental to family and friends.

Three Families - 9 children - NO PROBLEM!
My family and two other families stayed at La Bomba over Easter this year. In total there were 15 of us. We had never all been away together before and it could have been a disaster, but instead it was a total triumph. This was due hugely to how fantastic the house is. There is plenty of space for three families with children. With a number of rooms to spread out in and escape the noise. But when you do want to all get together (say for a 2 year olds birthday party) the grand salon is the place to be.... totally awesome. There was a perfect number of beautiful bathrooms and we were lucky enough to get the huge bedroom with it's own claw-foot bath right there at the other side of the room - total luxury. The whole house is tastefully decorated, and all the mod cons are there - even down to Sky TV, which was a life saver when it poured with rain one day. We were a little early in the year for the pool, but it's a great size and the children were gutted they couldn't use it. Instead we embarked on an epic table-tennis tournament which was enormous fun despite the rules being blatantly flouted. The gardens are massive and perfect for BBQs and the surrounding area is gorgeous. There is a lovely walk along the stream at the back of the house which ends at a great playground and bar/restaurant where beer and ice-cream are in abundance. The children were happy and had a great time which meant that the grown ups were happy and could have a great time too. In short I love this place and will definitely go back and will be recommending it to all my friends and family.

Spacious Relaxation
A haven of tranquillity surrounded by space that is the huge empty countryside of this part of sun-baked rural France. There is plenty of room for everything. Parking, bedrooms, poolside, and garden are all ample. If you are looking for a place to relax with the family and enjoy some sunshine this is it. The nearby village of Saint Felix Lauragais is lovely, has a great restaurant and offers stunning views.

First Family Holiday
It is seldom that reality exceeds expectation. I needed to find somewhere that would cater for the needs of everyone from one year-olds to sixty-year olds and most decades in between. La Bomba was just outstanding! The facilities were perfect for those who wanted to swim and play, for those who wanted to sunbathe and for those who wanted to explore the extraordinary cultural heritage of the region. The last two weeks have been idyllic and sunflowers will always now bring back the happiest of memories to all of us. I would unhesitatingly recommend this property to anyone.

About the host

Host profile image
Francophile and former TV executive-turned-chef, I first bought the house as a wreck back in 2001. After 4 fraught but rewarding years, La Bomba was finally habitable and fit for guests in the summer of 2005.

The following year my wife and I got married in the village church and we held the reception in the house and grounds. Without a doubt the happiest day of my life and you can see some photos on the website - details below.

After 15 years in London we now live in the bustling port city of Las Palmas in the Canary Islands where we run a catering business.

Why they chose this property

I fell in love with the area when visiting my sister who was living there for a few months on an exchange back in 2001. The area is known locally as the Lauragais and it is a truly undiscovered gem of a region.

Fantastically fertile, in the summer it is a riot of colour with wonderful vistas of sunflowers, wheat, and poppies in every direction. Though there's masses of good wine produced locally (Minervois, Corbieres, Fitou) the soil of the Lauragais is far too good for grapes!

If there's one thing lacking it is immediate proximity to the sea but there's a fantastic pool at the property and there's even a beach just 15 minutes away at Lac Saint Ferreol.

Once you've come once you will want to come again and again. It is one of the most delightful spots on earth.
