About this property

Charming cosy cottage. Magnificent views 2 minutes walk to centre of Ambleside

A charming, warm and cosy cottage much loved by its owners. It is in an excellent location within 2 minutes walk of Ambleside and a 10 minute walk to Lake Windermere. The cottage is above the village so it offers stunning views from all rooms of the surrounding hills. Many walks start from the cottage without the need to use a car. Wifi - Unlimited BT internet throughout the cottage. The front door leads into a L shaped sitting room and dining area with a newly fitted kitchen off this. The sitting room has beams and oak flooring with a window seat giving wonderful views to the Langdales. There is a living flame electric stove, a smart TV and DVD player, a radio. On the first floor there is a shower room, a double bedroom and a single. A spiral staircase leads to a large twin room with an en-suite bathroom. There is a small walled sitting area with garden bench facing the right way for the sun. There is a shared courtyard garden behind the cottage where there is a utility room with washing machine/tumble dryer. Beautiful at Christmas/New Year.

Crag View sleeps five very comfortably in 3 bedrooms but the space downstairs is slightly limited so for five full size adults it can feel a little cramped, although we have let it for 5 adults particulary for short breaks. We tend to let to 4 adults or a family with 3 children
The cottage is available Saturday to Saturday except for 3/4 day breaks from November to March unless you contact the owners directly

Idyllic family break
The cottage was absolutely perfect, very near town, you can do a number of walks from the front door, or just stay in and look at the stunning views from the cottage. There are so many great local restaurants we didn’t have a chance to try them all. Would definitely recommend

Lakes/graduation stay
We coincided our visit with our daughter’s graduation at Lancaster University. It was the perfect location to spend a week walking the fells and to take a day into Lancaster. The cottage was perfect for everyone. Would love to return one day.

Family Break
Great location. Walking distance to everything in town and the lake. Spotlessly clean and comfortable, with all the necessary accesories and amenities. Brand new, wonderful, utility room.. I would definitely recommend this cottage for sightseeing, walking holidays or just chilling, as the views are to die for.

The perfect cottage for a family
I can’t recommend this cottage enough. It was the perfect size for 2 adults, 2 children and a dog. It was very clean and had everything we needed for a 3 night stay. The views from the windows are amazing and it’s just a short walk into Ambleside. The Wi-Fi is great, there’s a smart TV as well which came in handy for a relaxing afternoon after a long walk. The beds are also very comfy. We will definitely be back.

Lovely stay in Ambleside
We stayed in this lovely cottage during a very wet week, with flood warnings on 3 days, but throughout that time the cottage was perfectly warm and cosy, with everything you need and with lovely views of the weather over Ambleside and the mountains. The hosts were great, giving enough information but not intruding, and the kitchen is well equipped. Even in all the rain we were still able to manage some lower level walks, the countryside is always stunning. We hope to be back again soon.

Well equipped and located, beautiful view over Loughrigg
The cottage was really well set up, and an easy walk down the hill into the centre of Ambleside, with lots of lovely walks from the house. The beds were comfortable, and all the equipment worked! The only things we missed were tea towels. The second floor room doesn't have a door, which made it not great for a light sleeper as you can hear anything that happens in the rest of the house. The laundry was very useful when we got home from a soggy walk - it is in the courtyard behind the house. The meter takes two-pound coins; one coin should be enough to wash and dry one load, and it only seems to be shared with one other house.

We really enjoyed our stay at this house
We really enjoyed our time in this lovely home. We have spent a full week here and the owner gave us all the info needed to have a pleasant stay in this property. We enjoyed the fact we could make hikes right from here. Also Ambleside shops and restaurants are all within walking distance. We loved the area and we hope to come back to the lake district in the future.

Perfect place for an ideallyic getaway!
Crag View was the perfect base for us to enjoy the wonderful weather we were lucky enough to enjoy during out time in The Lakes. The cottage was lovely and the hosts were very welcoming and informative. A great place to stay to drive to the many walks in the Lake District and within walking distance to many great pubs and restaurants. Now to book for next year!

Ambleside Cottage
A cosy cottage with an interesting history and a great view. The cottage will sleep five, however, it may be a bit tight in the living area for five adults. For a small family or four adults or less, it is ideal. It has all the utilities that you would require for a short holiday including a utility room in the shared courtyard to the rear of the property. There is also parking available for one car in front of the cottage. Peter or Pat will call you on your first evening and go through the operation of all the appliances and provide guidance and recommendations for local eateries and walks. Ambleside is ideally located for most Lake District activities and the view from this cottage adds to the whole experience. Well recommended.

Excellent holiday
Lovely little cottage in a brilliant location, views from the cottage were stunning. Spent lots of time sat on the front terrace watching the sun go down. Good location for rambling about and short little walk to the village for shopping and eating out. Plenty of space for 2 adults, a teenager and 2 little dogs. The attic en-suite bedroom was spacious. Good internet connection (a must for the teenager!) Will be returning at some point next year.

The property is ideally located just 5 minutes walk into Ambleside and the views across Waterhead are amazing. The rooms are bijou but everything is here for the perfect lakes holiday base.

Clean, comfortable, well equipped and beautifully located
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Wonderful view across the fells to the west. Lashings of hot water made a welcome end to a long day walking. Kitchen was fully equipped and there was a quaint procedure for using the washing machine. Communication with the host was excellent. Overall, if we were to be in Ambleside again we'd probably book here.

Winter Wonderland
My partner and I stayed at Crag View Cottage from 28th December until 2nd January. We could not fault it. The views from the window over Ambleside and the Langdales were phenomenal, particularly with the snow! The location of the cottage is ideal. It is just a short 5 minute walk into the centre and you are able to walk to Loughrigg Fell, Rydal caves and Wansfell Pike from the cottage. We will definitely be returning!

Brilliant location
We’ve been twice now and intend to go again. This is a cosy cottage, very quiet and yet a short walk downhill into Ambleside. The descriptions are accurate, with a positive exception, they do provide towels even though the HomeAway site says they don’t.

About the host

Host profile image
We have owned Crag View for over 20 years, we love it and look after it as if it is our second home. Our children grew up loving the Lakes, we took them on walks and when they were little and they kept saying when will we be there. I am ashamed to say we bribed them with sweets. Now, in their thirties they want to come all the time and go on even longer walks but they now bribe us to go on long walks. They love going up there for a complete change of pace from their busy lives. They, and we, have been all over the world but the view from the cottage is still one of the best we have ever seen.

Why they chose this property

We love the Lakes, the change of pace, the lovely relaxed feel of Ambleside, the numerous good place to eat and the fact we can walk down to a cinema to see the latest films in 5 minutes! We bought the cottage because we had one further up the hill but we always said if this came up for sale we would try to buy it. We bought it without going inside because of the view. We have completely renovated it inside and continue to do so.

What makes this property unique

It is just the best, it has a spiral staircase up to the top floor which a large twin room with its own bathroom. Adults love it, children adore being upstairs.
