Great Little Cottage

Lovely property in a beautiful location. Had everything myself and my wife needed for our walking holiday in the Derbyshire Dales. Richard (owner) was very friendly and helpful, and as the place was empty before our arrival allowed us to extend our break with an earlier arrival time on our first day. Views from the top bedroom are beautiful. Parking straightforward and close to cottage. Would recommend.

Really enjoyed our stay

The cottage is lovely and in a great position with nice views out to the hills. It is well located and a short walk down into town (but probably a long climb back which we didn’t do because of the ice) The hosts could not have been more helpful. All the fixtures and fittings were pretty good although we did not do any cooking or washing while we were there. Beds were comfortable and we slept very well. Wi-fi worked well and I could stream on my phone and broadcast to the TV so we could watch what we wanted. The cupboards were full of games, guides, maps – everything you could want for an evening or a cold wet day. We found it a bit difficult to get a comfortable temperature in the living area – either too hot or too cold and we did not use the log burner. We made the mistake of leaving the heating on downstairs on the first night and were much too hot in the night but I guess if we stayed longer we would get it worked out. One minor point is that the floor in the living room is tiled – probably easy to clean from muddy boots BUT take carpet slippers with you as its very cold on stockinged feet. As the website states, access for people with limited mobility is difficult as there are stone steps down to the cottage and the inside stairs are steep with narrow treads Bakewell is a lovely little village and we have stayed there quite a few times in the past. We felt that Manners was not as good as it used to be but PieDaniels was amazing. The best meal we’ve had in seve

Lovely stay in this cottage out of a fairy tale

We loved staying in this historic cottage. Gorgeous views from every window, especially the third floor. Instructions were clear and thorough. Kitchen was well-equipped. We stayed in the third-floor bedroom, which was large and comfortable. Second floor bedroom also large. Three floors of winding steps would be tricky for anyone with mobility issues, but we knew this ahead of time. Fireplace was cozy after day of hiking. Did not need a car. Five-minute walk to town. The walk to cottage was up a steep hill but we knew this ahead of time. I would love to stay here again!

Bakewell Break

Easy to find, walking distance of Bakewell. Didn’t need to use car at all…. Great break. Cottage was clean and comfortable, had everything we needed. Had great info emailed by landlord but instructions were also left by landlord in cottage. Thoroughly recommend this lovely old cottage for a break.

Nice Cottage in the middle of Bakewell

Great location close to the centre , fully furnished and super clean, the only thing it has stairs inside the house might not be suitable for someone with mobility challenges, but we were ok with it and it was mentioned with the description of the cottage. The owner is friendly and available on the phone, we had lovely time , definitely recommend !

Cosy terraced house in a central Bakewell location perfect for a small family

We had a lovely stay in Catcliffe cottage for half term with our two children. With a dedicated parking spot, and 5 minute walk down the hill into Bakewell, it was the perfect location with so much to do on the doorstep. The property was clean and cosy, and having a bathroom for each of the two bedrooms and basement utility area was a plus. Being spread across 4 floors with quite steep stairs, may not suit all, but was perfect for our family. The views from the top floor bedroom each morning were stunning. All in all, a well equipped, clean, home from home cottage and a fantastic base to explore the Peaks. We hope to return one day.

Excellent Property with great communication

The property is in an excellent location within 5 mins of Bakewell town centre. It was very clean, warm and welcoming. The owner made contact very early to ensure we knew everything required to enjoy the property. Private parking was useful and the wood burner was very handy on the chilly nights. We made use of the local shops and restaurants (who will deliver), the Indian was particularly nice. I would highly recommend to a small family or couple look for a hub in the Peaks. Would visit again. Thanks 🙏

Perfect

Just spent a week at Christmas in this cottage. As there were 3 adults it was ideal for us as it has 2 bathrooms. Well equipped everything you need for a great stay. Perfect location and peaceful, and fabulous views from the kitchen and upstairs bedroom. Great communication with Ricard. Bakewell only 5 minutes walk and has everything you need Co-OP, Spar, 2 butchers fish and chips, we used both the Chinese which delivered and the food was lovely. We also ate at the Indian, great service some different dishes to your usual Indian with good service and very reasonable priced. Good selection of pubs. Chatsworth house only 6 mins drive or you can catch the bus there. Throughly enjoyed our stay and have rebooked for next Christmas

Clean comfortable cottage in a great location with lovely views

We enjoyed our stay in Longstone Cottage. We found the cottage clean & comfortable & were lucky enough to be able to eat outside most evenings. Perfectly situated to explore Bakewell and the surrounding Derbyshire villages & attractions. The walk into Bakewell is slightly steep but we mastered this after a few trips & the path is well lit once darkness falls. We were very happy that we were based in Bakewell that offered much more than other places we visited. A great base to visit close by Haddon Hall, Chatsworth, Eyam & many other places .

Characterful cottage in Bakewell

My friend and I spent a very pleasant week in Bakewell in this characterful and cosy cottage. Although it's a mid terrace property it was very quiet and peaceful. The cottage is conveniently situated near Bakewell town centre and also near Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall which we really enjoyed visiting.

Great little cottage in a great location

The cottage is very well located for a short walk into Bakewell town centre, but is uphill on the way back. The views from the cottage are sensational, especially from the master bedroom on the top floor. The cottage is very clean and well appointed with all the facilities you would desire. It is extremely useful to have a reserved parking space in a small town such as this. Finally the owner is extremely friendly and helpful, always responding very quickly. Will definitely return.

A well equipped cottage conversion with dedicated parking space. Walking distance of town centre.

We enjoyed our stay in the cottage which is well equipped. In a tourist centre, it was good to have an allocated off-road parking space. The cottage is in a quiet location within walking distance of the town centre ( a bit steep walking back!). It made a good base for exploring the area. We visited Bakewell, Buxton and Derby. We also walked the Monsal Trail including viaduct and tunnels. We visited Speedwell Cavern, Peak Cavern and Peveril Castle. Bolsover Castle also made a very interesting contrast. With a longer trip we could have also included Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall. There are a lot of fish and chip restaurants and we found Charles at Matlock Bath excellent.

It was a very nice property parking etc.had all that we needed .

All was positive about the cottage, except remain double bed, we both slept really badly in it all week. the bed frame and the mattress could play a tune, it was like sleeping in a bouncy castle, one moved the other woke up. think the springs have died. please oil the bed frame to stop it squeaking and invest in a decent mattress. apart from that we had a lovely stay. thank you.

A perfect cottage in a perfect location

We had a great few days over our October half term. Knowing that the weather can be unpredictable, we wanted somewhere that was well-placed for walks on good days but also had the potential for pottering around shops on not-so-good days. This cottage is perfect for that. We were able to leave the car in the designated parking space (always a bonus!) and take any number of walks (including a lovely round trip to Haddon Hall and back via Over Haddon) straight from the cottage door. Chatsworth is a short drive away, as is Matlock Bath. Of an evening (and on the rainy day!) we took the path into Bakewell itself for a potter (only a 5 minute walk, albeit longer on the way back after having eaten - it's quite steep!!). The cottage itself has great views across Bakewell and the Derbyshire countryside, is beautifully furnished and benefits from having 2 bathrooms. We felt at home! I'd wholeheartedly recommend it if you're looking for a stay in the heart of Derbyshire.

About the host

Hosted by Richard Thomson

Host profile image
The owners are Richard and Christine who bought the cottage in a delapidated state and have lovingly restored it to its former glory. The cottage has all the modern facilities but maintains its original character with sloping ceilings, narrow stairs ,oak beams and original quarry tiled floor.

Why they chose this property

Bakewell is the jewel in the crown of the Peak National park. It is ideally located in the middle of the park making all areas easily accessible.
There is always something going off in Bakewell whether it be Bakewell show or one of the speciality or farmers markets.
Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are both close by and both are well worth visiting.
If the weather is not good for walking then the shops, pubs and restaurants in Bakewell give you an alternative day out and an excuse to sample the Bakewell pudding!!

What makes this property unique

The cottage enjoys dedicated off road parking in a private car park (accessed within 10 metres of the front door).
The property benefits from two seperate bathrooms (en-suite to master) making it ideal for two couples to go away together but to both have their own facilities.
Whilst the property is in a quite residential area it is less than a 5 minute walk into the centre of Bakewell along a pedestrian footpath.
There is Internet access (wifi) within the cottage free to use by our guests
