We've just returned from a fantastic holiday based at the Villa Montevista in Montefalcione. The owner, Ralph met us just outside of town, took us to the villa & explained everything about the property. He was really friendly, helpful & easy to contact by text throughout our stay, and being “a local” was also able to give us some good tips about visiting places of interest nearby including local markets (Montefalcione on a Monday morning is a must). Ralph had also provided us with a “welcome food pack” with the basics to get us started – very useful.
The villa sits perched on the side of a hill with views over the surrounding countryside that you could never tire of - absolutely stunning! An added bonus is the western looking aspect so the sunsets are also spectacular. The villa was beautiful, in excellent condition, well decorated, well-appointed and very spacious with plenty of room for our family of five. It has all of the facilities a family would need, including some inflatables for the pool for the kids (young & old). The patio area with the swimming pool was great with lots of space, sunbeds, an outdoor dining table & a lovely pool – well used by the whole family. We cooked & ate at the villa a couple of times, plenty of pots & pans etc, but the icing on the cake was sitting outside, eating at the patio table & watching the sun setting over the mountains in the West – really beautiful.
We used the villa primarily as a base to visit all of the main sights: Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius, Sorrento, Capri, the Amalfi Coast, Ravello (our favourite) and Naples as well as some of the local towns: Montefalcione, Grottaminarda (fantastic cake shop), Marabella & Benevento. All were in easy reach with nowhere more than an hour and a half away. Driving is relatively easy but be prepared for some scary moments if you venture along the Amalfi coast road, into Naples or Herculaneum. The whole region has stunning scenery & and the villa is perfectly located to take it all in.
We loved the holiday, loved the villa & have many great memories (not to mention about a million photographs) of our stay in Campania. Thanks Ralph for making our stay so perfect.
